Still on the fence about Battlefield Bad Company 2

I like the demo and everything but I'm in love with MAG also. I know that it is a great game but I don't know. I just don't want to fall for the hype like in Modern Warfare 2. Any advice?

I am on the fence as well. I tried the demo, but I just can't bring myself to like it as much as MAG. On the other end of the spectrum, I have MW2. For me, there really isn't any room for Bad Company 2 at this point.

Yea, if you like the demo, get it, if not don't get it. Also if you got MAG and love that, well just play that. I know I can't have more then one shooter going at a time so if you have MAG and love it, just stick to that.

If you need convincing on a game that's $57 shipped to your door with a $20 future gaming credit, maybe you SHOULDN'T get it. It will be fun. You will enjoy it, and probably be able to unload it for a minimal loss with the $20 credit.

For my money, it's improved 200% over the first BC. They really worked on fixing a lot of the problems of BC, and so they get my dollars. But if you're a total sniper douche who ignores the goodwill of the team, keep playing MW2.

MAG is dead in the water. The servers will be empty in a matter of months.

I beg to differ regarding MAG. I can see that game building momentum with all of the positive word of mouth.

The MAG servers are what scare me the most. I know that the players are high now, but all MAG is is an online game. At least BC2 has a campaign to fall on that can be replayed again. Besides, alot of people I talk to say that they are "dumping" MAG when BC2 comes out. Plus MAG only has three game modes really and one of them (acquisition) stinks so it is really only two online game modes without a campaign mode.

I've played 10 hours of the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 demo.

That is: a single map, with severely limited equipment (only can go up to Rank 2) and no Perks except for one Vehicle perk.

Now the full game has: alot of maps, tons of equipment (alot of ranks) and tons of perks.

I can easily see myself spending a whole ton of time on it.

You probably should get it.

MAG is a great game, but its very different form most games and its not like MW2 and neither is BFBC 2. I will be playing MAG until BFBC 2 comes out and take a break from it and come back to it.

Pre-order it now, you get the limited edition for the same price.

The real question about BF BC2, and a deciding factor for me, is the voicechat. VC was screwed in the original Bad Company, and still does not work on BF 1943. A squad based game without communication is pointless. Hopefully they get it right this time, and I will pick this up when it hits thirty dollars or so

I have no idea what word of mouth you're referring to... every other article I read about MAG is a complaint about problems with factions, which has the worst spawn points, waiting FOREVER to get into 256p games, and so forth. To be fair, I got bored in about an hour during the beta, and a huge percentage of beta downloaders never even leveled up - I think that says a lot about their potential to buy and play this thing.

By positive word of mouth, do you mean comments like:

"MAG has similarities to many online FPS games you’ve already played. It has the huge landscapes like Battlefield, the rolling objectives like Killzone 2 and the not too dissimilar punch of Modern Warfare’s guns. But sadly it’s nowhere near as good as any of them. Why? Well, we can’t shake the fact that those said games have a single player campaign for your money. MAG doesn’t. It doesn’t have a USP beyond hosting 256 players online."

"The flow of the action is supposed to be one of fluidity so you’d always have something to do within MAG, but the reality is that usually everyone converges on one point of the map for a gigantic shoot out to the death. It’s hardly original."

"The weapons all feel the same no matter which group you’re with."

"We can’t justify why you’d choose MAG over any of the current crop of FPS stars and the upcoming Battlefield: Bad Company 2, which does the online side better and has a campaign mode to boot."

"It’s too bad online is the way it is. There are many who have actually deleted their M.A.G. characters to start over with SVER. Why? Well like most people who play online winning is the only thing that matters. Finally a game like M.A.G. comes along that focuses on teamwork and what do people do? They flock to the winning team and desert the other factions. Also from what I read SVER has an advantage with the map layouts."

"One of the biggest problems is the vast amount of new players and kids that flocked to Raven. It doesn’t help that it’s the first option so it immediately gets even more new players and kids because of that. All Raven players will probably continue to complain about losing until that is fixed."

I root for EVERY game to succeed - but I've walked the path of the unpopular online game before. They drop to the bargain bin while everyone else finds a new game to play - with BC2 right around the corner, this seems like a bad $60 bet to make.

between the bfbc2 beta and demo, ive easily logged 40+ hours and ive never had a problem with voice chat with my squad.
What's up with Rank 3 being like a bazillion points to get too? is that what it's gonna be in the real game
I'd imagine not. Though who knows, we could all be surprised!

If that were the case we wouldn't be getting all the special weapons!

Hate the fact the credit isn't available for the PC version. If it was I would be all over the amazon deal! Hmmmm new game informer gave the game a 9.5!

im thinking they did that just so people dont unlock everything. there is no way itll be like that in the real game since there is a trophy that is to get to rank 22.

in the beta, which lasted for like a month or something like that, some people had insane ranks. granted some of them stat padded, but during the beta, i think i made it to in the 20's. i cant remember exactly. they didnt put a cap on the beta however since they wanted people to try out as much stuff as possible.
