Stootsi.com has a section known as the "Salvage Mall", in which items are sold as-is, without refunds.
The Disclaimer, as written by Stootsi.com is written as follows:

 • All products sold on salvage.stootsi.com have issues. We will do our best to present these issues to you.
 • All salvage products are sold as-is, with no warranties expressed or implied, unless otherwise stated on the item page.
 • Nearly all of these items are former customer returns, untested, unfixed, or just not working in some regard.
 • Cosmetic conditions will vary tremendously, but will be clearly advertised.
Basically, you're taking a gamble for buying items that may or may not work for ridiculously low prices. Each item has a short description of the condition, so make sure you read the descriptions! So buyer beware, if you're not feeling risky.

I have bought a wired XBOX360 controller from this before under "good" condition, and it has worked perfectly. Luck of the draw, I suppose.

Items Include (updated):
XBOX360 white wireless controller (limit 1) - $9.99
Wii Remote - $14.99
XBOX 360 MC2 Racing Wheel - $9.99
Datel Maxdrive 160GB HD PS3 - $34.99
PS3 Wireless Sixaxis Controller (limit 1) - $2.29
Nyko Wii Remote Charge Station - $2.99
XBOX360 Wireless Headset Halo Edition - $4.99

New items are constantly being added and removed, so check back often.

Shipping is $6.00 flat, and everything's tax free except for PA residents.

I bought a broken sixaxis ($.99) a while ago... it works OK, only thing is that it's missing the two right trigger buttons (R1 and R2). I might gut it later and have my buddy help me mod it to something cool like an arcade stick or something.

I also picked up a PS2 slim with a read-error ($29.99) along with a PS3 MadCatz thumbpad ($7.99) from the Salvage Mall. The PS2 slim does indeed have a read-error, but luckily everything else seems to be OK. Mine came with the power and AV cables. From the description of it, though, I had no idea if I was going to get cables or not.

The thumbpad consists of a USB dongle that goes in your PS3 and the thumbpad itself. Unfortunately, the thumbpad won't charge/light up, so it seems like the battery (or some other part) might be dead or something. So much for the 'untested' gamble!

Son of a bitch! You must have gotten my PS2!!! No, just kidding. Actually, the one I ordered was for $19.99. I can understand what zenintrude is saying about customers returning items and just saying something generic is wrong with it, but what company gives a refund without making sure the item is actually defective? Which leads me to my next point. These units must be tested in some way. Otherwise, there wouldn't be different price points.

Same thing with the iPods. They've got some that say 'won't hold a charge" for $19.99, and some that say "won't power on" for $14.99. Now, these are VERY similar probllems, but due to the different price points, I'm inclined to believe that the "won't power on" unit has more wrong with it than just a dead battery. ESPECIALLY since an iPod can run off AC without any battery at all. Tell me Stootsi wouldn't check for something like that. I call BS.

HA...wow, add insult to injury here. I screwed around a bit more with my faulty PS2 Slim, this time actually putting in a disc. And I discovered that it has ZERO problems reading discs at all. But the discs that it reads have massive video glitches just like the dash of the system. I thought about parting it out and selling the laser on ebay, but then I discovered that they're virtually worthless now (can't believe just a couple years ago they were selling for $30+). Oh well, if this isn't a case for a chargeback, I don't know what is.

EDIT - haha, and just looking at my serial number, the first two letters are F U. Classic :bomb:

So, I contacted Stootsi about the PS2 (just to see what they'd see. I wanted to at least make it look like I made an attempt before contacting my CC people). Here's their generic response:

We test items in a limited fashion on salvage and when we find something wrong we do not continue testing for further defects – thus, we place 9 or 10 disclaimers warning buyers of what they are buying, and then we sell it for 80 percent off retail. As for the headphones, we’d be glad to send you another pair.

I love how they ignore the main issue. The item they sent me did not have the listed problem they "tested" for, but a different one all together. Considering they have multiple PS2 Slims, isn't it possible they sent me the wrong one. Wait. That's right. "AS-IS", so who cares! I'm done with Stootsi. This was a dick move, but at least with this kind of response from them, I feel like a chargeback shouldn't be hard to get. You can't lie to people about what is actually wrong with an item. I refuse to believe otherwise.

Actually, their shipping is one of the highlights of the site. It's $6 no matter what/how much you order. Right now, they have a 17" CRT monitor on there...and you can have it shipped to you for $6. You can't beat that.

Yeah, their shipping is good if you're ordering large items and/or a bunch of stuff.

Anyway, I understand where they are coming from, but "as-is" should not be some kind of blanket. We know what we are buying...broken and/or defective items. We just want honest and accurate descriptions. I mean, if you are selling them for parts and repair, how the hell are we suppose to use them for such purposes if we don't know what we are getting? I mean, for instance, if a buy a controller, because I need the buttons, let's say, what good is it going to be if the buttons are all cracked?

I would absolutely understand if we stumbled upon some larger issues after we attempted to repair the item, but something like a fried GPU is pretty obvious, especially if you're listing the item as not reading discs. If you know it isn't reading discs, you should also know something is wrong with the GPU.

EXACTLY! I was hoping they'd at least be apologetic and tell me that the wrong system was sent. Like you said. How can they sell something for parts if they can't say which parts work? I guess I was supposed to assume I was buying a PS2 slim shell, worst case scenario? And their defense is so full of holes.

1. "That's why we sell it for 80% off retail". That's crap because a used working PS2 slim UNIT ONLY does not sell for $100. And certainly, one thats video board/output is fried is not worth $20.

2. "When we find something wrong, we do not continue testing for further defects". Right. It's sad that they can't even come up with a response that addresses my complaint. Noticing that the video is bad happens as soon as you turn the system on. Finding out it has trouble reading discs (which it doesn't) happens after.

If anything, this shows that they don't mind ripping their customers off. I'm sure they don't see it that way, but someone needs to explain to them the principle of an "as-is" listing. I'd be happier if they just claimed to have no clue what was wrong with these products...but of course, if they did that, no one would buy them. It's better to lie and make money, I guess. I didn't have time to call my CC people today, but tomorrow it's happening.

Hmmm, I'm thinking about getting that Presario laptop they have for $350. They said the only thing wrong with it is there is no battery, which I could get for $90. But with all the non-accurate discriptions everyone's been having, I'm having second, third, and fourth thoughts.

Microsoft delivered, after shipping my headset on 10/23 to microsoft i finally got a brand new replacement, now i regret not buying a couple more headsets from stoosi. All in all $8.00 and a couple of weeks of waiting got me a brand new headset. Best of all i got 2 headset power cables since i originally shipped it without anything, just the headset.

I don't know why anyone deals with this piece of shit company after their Mystery box fiasco a couple of months ago and you all saw their attitudes when people complained. They should be boycotted until they go out of business.
if you read this thread, you'll find that most people made out pretty well this time around...
Zenintrude hit the nail on the head. I know a lot of people get the shaft from them, but that had a lot to do with them simply getting in over their heads. Wasn't passing this deal up, because it was a no-lose situation for me. Invested $26 into the two adapters and hoped one of them worked. If they did, it would have been an absolute steal. Neither of them worked, so I sold them on eBay and made a profit.

You know, Stootsi makes it very clear that you can potentially receive a pile of shit. They let you know at least twice before you make your purchase. If you don't want to buy things from salvage, than don't. They have regular items, too. It's just an "addition" to their site for those who want to take the gamble.

I never reported the "results" of what I received from the salvage store.

I got the Nyko Wii remote charger, and it works perfectly. 100% fine. I have no idea why this item is on the salvage list, but I suppose I got another lucky draw.
