Strider sequel arriving early 2014!

Capcom Unity just announced a new Strider game.

  • It'll be a digital release in early 2014 for the PS3, PS4, 360, XB1, & PC
  • Side-scrolling 2.5D gameplay set in a Metroidvania (open world) enviroment
  • Developed by Double Helix
  • Designed by the original designers of the first two games.

When I saw this tonight I couldn't believe it.  Way cool!  Both the original Strider and Strider 2 on the PS1 were great, great games.  I'm loving the visual style of this and I like they went the Metroid-style route with it. 

Heh, I remember being a kid, about 12 when Strider 1 came out.  I was so freaked out excited for it and my parents got it for me for Christmas, so I had to wait for it.  I remember sneaking into their weak hiding spot, slitting the packaging, and playing it a couple times before Christmas.  Yes, I may go to hell for that, but damn dude, it was SO worth it!  ;)

 
The trailer looks like fun not sure about Double Helix though. I wish Capcom would do better with bringing these older franchises back. I'm thinking we won't see much more of Bionic Commando. Glad we got Rearmed though.

 
Somebody posted a leak about this a few months ago on Neogaf, everyone kind of blew it off since no one had any proof other than a XBLA banner, so apparently they were right.  Will watch the trailer and see what I think.

 
Saw a 7 minute gameplay trailer and I'm sold.  Really, really hope it gets retail treatment of some sort otherwise I'll have to pass.  When games go all digital, I'm out.

 
Anyone remember that when strider 2 came out for playstation they had the labels switched for the two games? Strider 2 was actually strider 1 and vice versa.

Lol! I did that with a GameBoy SP!

It was already wrapped under the tree, I carefully peeled back a taped corner. (Only had 1 piece of tape.) slid the box out, slipped the SP out, and put it all back minus the SP. Worked great for about a week, then I got caught playing it. Lol

Ah... Memories...

It's Capcom, don't count on it, (see Duck Tales Remastered, buy the case get a pin and a D/L code) but you get a phyical thing see. ;) So yeah, unless you're willing to import, that's the only slim chance you might be able to get a physical copy is maybe with a JPN version of something. Even Bionic Commando Rearmed never got a physical version, even though BCR2 did, weird huh?
