 I just always find it hilarious when guys hold up giant pants. Its even funnier when people cheer when he holds them up.
You guys eat the foot long subs on your own? :whistle2:#
Hell yeah!

'Course, that counts for two meals in a day...
Has anyone here ever heard of "jimmy john's?" One opened here around a year ago, great sandwiches. They have a tough sort of grinder type bread. The sandwiches are fairly big, pretty good prices. Another thing i like is that they deliver.
Two opened up nearby almost a year ago, I still haven't tried them. No olives. Also, are they as they are, steamed, or toasted?

I haven't been in a Subway in years... are their sandwiches that stingy on the meat and veggies? :whistle2:#

I'd rather eat a five dollar bill... ;)

Subway is overrated because people *think* it's healthy and you will loose weight just like good old Jared. Yes I have noticed smaller meats on the footlongs. What is up with the exclusions !?!?! Personally I think local sub shops are better for the amount that subway charges you get more for your money. In some cases some subs come to about 8 dollars WITHOUT DRINK, where as a local shop has it sub, drink and chips for that price.

Tried the breakfast sub once...... pure :puke:

Quizno's is more about packing the meat in a good bread vs subway's packing weak meat with lots of veggies into a weak bread.

They seem to like concentrating around colleges, at least in this area. Good subs and fast delivery with no minimum is great.

Yeah, they started out as a place near some college.

Maybe this is Subway's way of making their subs even healthier, make them practically nothing but bread.

I concur with subway being half-assed anymore. I don't know why I bother going there since the subs aren't really that great and I always end up leaving smelling like oil and vinegar for some reason.

Quiznos is awesome , but two of the locations near me both closed down in the last year or two and the nearest one isn't close enough to go for lunch. Jerseys Mikes and Firehouse are both pretty good as well but where the hell is the love for Blimpys?
So I nicely asked about it, starting with the safe assumption that, as a Subway employee, the person making my sandwich was a blithering idiot of Faulknerian proportions.
Never ceases to amaze me how highly you think of yourself.

I've always thought both Quiznos and Subway were overpriced. The only reason I ever ate at Subway as much as I did was because of the daily specials. I can't believe it took Subway that long to figure out that if they lowered prices they could increase sales.

The fact that they started charging 5 bucks for their sandwiches only makes them reasonably priced in my mind (not an incredible deal).

Could be because these people have to compete with In N' Out where I live or the fact that I'm Vietnamese (successful Vietnamese sandwich shops assume their clientele are pretty fucking stingy).

Jimmy John's sandwiches FTW...

When I was in high school I worked at Subway for about a year. I remember back then how chintzy they were with the meat, cheese, and fixin's. When I worked there they had a fit if a little bit of the veggies fell of the subs and ended up in the trash. They also freaked out if we put more than the mandated 3 black olive slices per 6" sandwich.

Subway is my least favorite sandwich shop but we usually eat there because it's reasonably healty, cheap, and most importantly convienient.

Subway is franchised so maybe your owner was just a nazi

I always ask for extra onions and bell peppers, and they always put a lot extra

I don't know who told you the meat formulas changed for $5 footlongs, but they're completely wrong. I've managed multiple locations out here in AZ for 8 years now and I can most assuredly tell you the formulas haven't changed in 8 years. Call 1-800-888-4848 and make a corporate complaint. You'll be compensated for that BS.

Not all of them are franchises. My business class teacher actually told us that Subway has been known to move in and muscle out a franchise's territory. The franchise is forced to close due to a lack of business.

Subway and cheap are NOT to be associated at ALL.

Don't believe me? Try making your own.

I mean "cheap" with $5 special running when compared to other fast food chains. For $10 I can get a couple footlong subs and feed me, my wife, and my son.

For $10 I can get 10 1/2 lb burritos which can feed 4 or 5.

But I suppose you could say that's cheap. Then again, even a footlong sub can't fill me up.

I'm talking cheap and as healthy as possible.

Jimmy John's sucks. The ONLY reason they're even around- and in college areas- is because they're open late and it's good drunk food.

Strell mentioned Pei Wei--- so they have good food? There's one right nearby me but I never tried them because most "Asian" food places suck ass. Any recommendations?

i remember all my people worked up at subway near my university (and my dorm...in fact, you could look out the window!)

man, when i say i would take back a sub t hat had:

pepperoni
bacon
meatball (sometimes)
beef
chicken (seperated from the beef)
and sometimes turkey slices with the chicken

WITH

pepperjack cheese
swiss cheese
lettuce
small portion of tomato
pepper sprinkled

best part - it would be made right in front of customers. i called it "the meat, period" footlong. i took pics w/my cell phone but i don't know how to get it off the one i have...

AND OF COURSE, THESE SUBS WERE FREE AS A BIRD

JJs straight, but i wouldn't go there before Quizznos...

I prefer Dandan Noodles, which is basically some chicken + noodles + cucumber slices. There's this nice tangy sauce all over the chicken, and I think crushed up nuts of some kind, but don't take my word for it. The chicken is sliced thin and grilled. If you hate cucumbers, you can ask for it to be left off. I didn't think I'd like them, but then I just mixed it all together anyway, and found the taste was a great enhancement for the rest of the dish. I usually can't finish a serving for lunch, and can save it for dinner with some veggies/fruit/etc for a second full meal.

Spicy Chicken Salad is excellent. Chicken has this great glaze on it (it's fried), and the dressing is a lime vinaigrette.

Others have said the honey seared is good.

I would suggest you not get the Pei Wei Spicy, which they proclaim is their version of General Tso's Chicken. It's not that it is bad, it's more that if you eat what is considered the norm at other Asian places, you'll find this stuff very different. Which is to say, if you like how most other places make it, you might not like it here.

Personally, I tend to avoid the "chicken with batter that is fried like little nuggets with a _____ sauce on it" sorts of dishes, if only because sometimes the chicken gets fried a little too long, and then has a burnt aftertaste. But that's probably a cook's fault.

Here's a menu. I'd suggest getting 2-3 things you think you might like, and then sampling all of them. Helps if you take friends.
(successful Vietnamese sandwich shops assume their clientele are pretty fucking stingy).
Vietnamese sandwiches rule... I love 'em way more than Subway, but maybe not quite as much as Quizno's.

Oh yeah, DoK, one last thing:

Pei Wei serves either white or brown rice. They do not serve fried. The white rice has no taste, so you could douse it in soy or something if you want. Brown rice is good, and healthier than other types of rice, but if you aren't used to the flavor/texture, you might not like it. Of course, if you know you like brown rice, then you're in a good place.

This is why I tend to get dishes with noodles. I like brown rice more than white, but I prefer fried, even if I know it isn't exceptionally good for me.

Just a heads up.

You really need that much meat anyway?

For me a footlong is two lunches, and enough meat for two days. Many ppl in the world don't get that much meat in a month.

Yea I've had a few of the $5 footlongs, they're okay, but the Quiznos subs for $5, man I couldn't finish it, it so much food.
Yeah, they started out as a place near some college.

But that makes them full of carbs, and of course we all know that's unhealthy:roll:

There isn't a blimpy's around here anymore. I really don't understand why they failed out here, since pretty much everything seems to do well or be able to sustain itself.

Nothing wrong with a half pound burrito. I actually much prefer mexican food over any other type of food or fast food, with the exception being Middle Eastern (Chummus, Pitas, Felafel, Labne on lafa bread:drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool:.

Got it, so I should feel worse for having to alleviate a normal, and natural, human body function:roll: Give me break.

I don't know how Subway can legally use the slogan "Eat Fresh"
It must be because there's no concrete legal definition of freshness.

Subway does bake their bread, but it's frozen parbaked bread that they simply finish off.
They don't have a mixer, proofer, etc.

All meats are sent from Subway Corporate and are frozen and thawed in the store.

The meats are all processed from God knows what, and the cheeses are mostly artificial.

Lastly, if you notice, the sandwich bar inserts (or Cambros) are never taken out to be cleaned, but new batches are thrown in and mixed with the existing.

Terrible food.... the reason Jared lost so much weight is because he would rather not eat and starve, then eat another Subway

Quiznos is so much better. I almost always get a large there and it fills me up while a footlong at Subway is not nearly as filling. Being 140-145lbs (it fluctuates) at 5'11" at 8-9% body fat is damn good considering how much I eat lol
There isn't a blimpy's around here anymore. I really don't understand why they failed out here, since pretty much everything seems to do well or be able to sustain itself.
We actually have quite a few blimpy's down here but there all within Hess gas stations. Haven't seen a stand alone blimpy's in forever. The ones in the gas stations might be just as good but it just doesn't seem the same.

The one Blimpy's that opened up near my home town was doomed from the beginning. Lots of people got food poisoning, the manager was apparently sleeping in the back because he didn't have a house, and the place was robbed on three separate locations within a month.

Rather than what's better than Subway, a more difficult question to answer would be what's worse than Subway. Really. Blimpy, Jimmy John's, Quizno's, Tub's Subs... I've never eaten a sub place that wasn't better than Subway.

Subway is meh. I ate there on Friday and it was meh, although the bread was pretty good. It's sad when they actually cut the cheese into triangles so they can portion less cheese. Also I live near a Wawa but I haven't eaten there in ages. Now for subs there is this place where I go to school at called Berringers, now they have good subs. Other than that my area is surrounded by the (insert name here) Chinese Buffet which is like $6 for all you can eat (while not the best, $6 is pretty awesome for all you can eat).

Where I used to live, there was a nice sub sandwich place that made the best sandwiches I've ever had. Piled with meat and priced right. It was always busy and had a nice vibe to it. It was out of the way, and you wouldn't know about it if you were just passing by, great place, I miss it so much just for the great food.

Subway is crap, overpriced and just as bad as other fast food joints if you count the mayo and cheese they put in their sub, that's what makes burgers as bad, Of course Jared lost, weight, all he ate was a veggie sub and turkey sub with no mayo or cheese for a year. That's just a crash diet.

Subway is a solid place if you like turkey subs (like me) and prefer to save the unhealthy eating for dinner (like me). Quizno's is indeed better, but also so much unhealthier that they refuse to release nutrition information. Draw your own conclusion from that.

subs are usually the bee's knees from quizno's or which wich.

actually, i had a meatball sub from which wich yesterday and my stomach sent my wallet a thank you note later on in the day.

I prefer Quiznos as well but the nearest one closed down, so it's Subway for me.

It's annoying that they're skimping on the meat now, but I don't like an excessive amount of meat in my subs anyway, so I don't think it will stop me eating there.
You really need that much meat anyway?

For me a footlong is two lunches, and enough meat for two days. Many ppl in the world don't get that much meat in a month.
Yes. You got it. That's exactly what I said.

Pointing out that Subway is reducing their portions along with their prices is my way of saying "I'M STILL HUNGRY."

Also: fuck yo' meat guilt. Those people who aren't getting that much meat in a month? You can substitute meat with any other necessarily healthy foodstuffs word and you'd still be right. But, hey, I'll help. Give me some names and addresses and I'll mail my second half of the sammich to them.

My love for Subway has seriously dwindled over the years. It was great when they opened one next to work, but dealing with the franchise owners while they work there was a pain. They used to make sure you could only use stamps from their store when you redeemed them (back in the day). I get why, but seriously, there are 5-6 subways within a 5 mile radius of where I live.. should I have to carry 5 cards?

Blimplies was ok until I realized I could go to the grocery store and make a half dozen sandwiches out of the same meats/veggies as they offered for the price of a large combo. Jersey Mikes seemed 'o-k' to me, same with firehouse and jimmy johns. Cold subs don't really make me feel like I'm eating anything special. Quiznos is still pretty good at this point. Last time I went there I got a $5 beef and cheddar, broccoli and cheddar soup and a drink for $6.99 out the door. Can't beat that.

Oh yeah.. they changed the steak meat around here a couple years ago. It used to be more of a shaved cut and now it's more cubed. They lost major brownie points with the g/f after that.
