Just curious if anyone has an opinion (or opinions) or reviews over the Masters of Horror DVD's? Since I don't have Showtime, but always interested in new horror movies.

Sooooo suggestions?

I've watched a few of them already. Imprint is so far my favorite. If you like Japanese horror definitely pick that up. Most video stores have these for rent.

Simply because Ichi possibly ranked up there as one of the most fucked up movies I've seen in awhile (what other movie has the title written in semen? Possibly besides porn movies). You're right on it being great though.

Any opinions on the others you saw?

Definately Imprint.. I thought Cigarette Burns was good too, mainly because of the awesome gore. I thought Jennifer was pretty twisted too, it was good. Those are my 3.

From the first season Cigarette Burns, fair hair child, imprint and Incident on a mountain or something like that are probably my top picks. From the second season, Family would definetly be my favorite.
Homecoming got the best reviews, probably because it was topical/political. (Well, also because it's Joe Dante.)
I thought it was one of the worst episodes, and I'm a huge zombie guy.

I've only seen the first season, but here:
the good: Cigarette Burns, Homecoming, Incident on and off a Mountain Road
the bad: Dance of the Dead, Dreams in the Witch House, Jenifer

I don't think even the best ones there come close to whatever movie the director is famous for, but for an hourlong show on a shoestring budget, those, especially Carpenter's Cigarette Burns, are pretty good.

Cigarette Burns was really good and I liked Dreams from the Witch House. I have been renting them from Blockbuster (2 episodes on each DVD). I would definitely recommend the movies if you are a fan of horror.

Homecoming was funny for the first half of the movie in a making fun of cheesy horror movies type of way. It kind of dragged on at the end. A rental at the least for a laugh. Didn't watch any others.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. I think i'll be checking out Cigarette Burns and either Incident On and Off A Mountain Road or Dreams in the Witch House (simply because I love Re-Animator).

Though I'm still skeptic over Homecoming since I don't know exactly how voting and a zombie movie can work. Especially when it sounds more comedy then horror if anything.

I have also seen Cigarette Burns (very good), Incident on and off a Mt. Road (good), Chocolate (so-so), and Dreams from the Witch House (so-so). I plan to watch more of them shortly. Also, if you liked Imprint some other DVDs you might like are 3 Extreme I & II. Part one is the best (Dumplings is just sick) but I also liked part 2. And, as a note of warning, Creepshow 3 comes out on DVD Tuesday....do not touch this movie! I watched it last week & it was horrible. I believe it was on HBO before (box sayed HBO on it)...if you have HBO maybe check it out then.
On the same lines as DVDs with a bunch of short flicks on them. Has anybody seen any of the "8 Films To Die For"? I was thinking about renting one (or a few) of those, but didnt know which ones were good or crap.

Wasn't one of those movies done by Chan Woo Park (of Old Boy and Sympathy for Me.Vengenace fame)? Also aren't there full length feature versions of those movies out there?

Incident on a mountain is the only one worth buying... The rest are watchable, but that's about it.... Deer Woman could have been great had the story not went to shit.

U know, U can't BUY those 2-episode DVDs anywhere...their not listed in dvdpricesearch.com or on Blockbuster online. Only seen them in-store.

Can anyone confirm? I rented 4 of 'em already.

Yes, and yes there is a full version of "dumplings" by i believe Chan woo park on the dvd, but it isnt as good as the short movie. 3 Extremes is definetly worth a watch.

Dumplings fucked me up. I had no idea what it was going to be about, and I was sitting there eating dinner. Though, surprisingly.. I thought Miike's film in 3 Extreme was horrible. I guess there's a first for everything.

By the way Cigarette burns is one of the worst of the season. It made absolutely no logical sense... And the lead actor was terrible. No emotion what so ever... I could have done a better job... Dreams from the Witchhouse was the second best episode, and sick girl was kinda interesting.
Jennifer is terrible. Hacked up mess... You guys might like the nudity.

But it had the best gore out of the entire season.

Yeah, the nudity of the fucked up deformed dog woman.. That shit was gross, which makes it good.

There haven't been any horror movies with a good story since the 70's.

Weird, Miikes film was my favorite of the bunch

So far the only one I've seen and just flat out hated has been Homecoming. I'm glad to see at least one other person doesn't like it.

My favorites have probably been Cigarette Burns, Pro-Life, Chocolate, Dreams from the Witchouse, The Family, and The Washingtonians.

I've seen Jenifer too, and that is reeeeally good, but I'm not sure if I'd rewatch it too many times.
