FYI, the Japanese version of King of Fighters XI is now OOP

looks like it's going "SNK Best" in June = $35
http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-40-77-8-49-en-15-king+of+fighters+xi-70-1xyo.html

looks like I'll wait for the price drop. I think if I waited this long, it wouldn't hurt to wait and save $30
See, what'd I tell ya? I dunno if you heard me over the Gears ruckus, but I said that KOF would prolly go SNK Best around June.

Sorry, I didn't hear you. Good call on that one though.

I also might get either Slash or Accent Core between now and June. So I'm sure the wait won't be too bad for KOFXI.

I don't know if I believe it, but Aksys is supposedly putting out a Guilty Gear collection in the US for $29.99 sometime between last month and next month according to various release dates posted on Play-Asia, EB/GS, BestBuy's in-store kiosk, and their forums. Supposedly has GGXX:MC, GGXX:MC#, and GGXX:MC/ and is to be reminiscent of the Battle Archives games in presentation. Personally, I have every iteration of Guilty Gear on import PS2 and preordered Accent Core so I have already lost out on it's supposed usefulness.

speakin of GG, I got me a swap magic thing yesterday, and broke the tabs off the disc tray tryin to remove the panel -_-

but it works like a charm, the rigorous Slash training will commence soon

I don't believe it. Then again I find it hard for any 2-D fighting game to be released in this country anymore. Hell, I remember when they announced KOF: Neowave for Xbox. I actually thought it was a joke until I saw it sitting on the shelves. It's getting to the point when I am surprised that any fighting game (2-D/3-D) gets released here. Most of us have ways to play imports so we don't have to wait around for our favorite fighting games right? :)

Also for some random reason, Aksys games has now been synonymous with the Guilty Gear series. Remember that big rumor that they were porting Accent Core to the Wii? Didn't that come from the fact that Gamefly put up a date on their site? That went to people's heads quick.

Also since it seems like you are a big GG fan, are there any glaring differences between Slash and Accent Core?

Congrats on the Swap Magic Jekki, hope you enjoy your imports.

Seems some people prefer AC and some people prefer Slash. At least, that's how it was when the game originally came out. Also, the announcer is different, the voices for the characters are different, and there's buncha changed stages.
Damn lost 390 dollars in Atlantic City

but I did get to play the arcade version of Turtles in Time so it wasn't a total wash
 one more reason why I don't like gambling ... it's fun every once in a while though.
 one more reason why I don't like gambling ... it's fun every once in a while though.
This contradicts itself.

Aaanyway... I will want to play Gears tomorrow night. So who can I expect to discuss nonsense with?

Depending on the time you play will depend on my n00bish attitude and ridiculous wit to keep you company.

And since XBL games are a bit of a buzzing topic in here, any of you guys wanna get in on the BF2 night I'm trying to get together?

And for the sake of possibly staying on topic, I haven't played a fighting game in about 2 weeks.

Exactly. It's a matter of preference but if Arc and Sammy say Accent Core is the new standard, then that's what it'll become for tournaments.

Supposedly the storyline of Midnight Carnival is over and a new is beginning (similar to KoF I guess) but I'm not sure what exactly the new story is yet. I'm also wondering if GGXXX(?) is in their minds at all.

Speaking of KoF, SNK says KoF 2003 and KoF XI are in the same story arc, which seem to go in 3s or 4s so I'm wondering if the PS2 has it in it to stay alive long enough for a third KoF Collection (i.e. Nests, Orochi).

I'm in, post a time and I'll be there (get back home around 8-ish, then watch The Office, and then I'm free) . Thursdays for me are basically my weekend.

so a savage reign/ kizuna encounter compilation was announced by snk-playmore for the ps2. it should be released on june 21st.

I for one can't wait to play with kim su il and rosa. also that fat cop guy is cool too. i can't remember his name though, I think it starts with an H... I could be wrong though.

I think everyone can appreciate this arcade love, even if it is a bit like pokemon:

well, you can't beat watching a girl and a raptor playing Fighting Vipers 2.
Exactly. It's a matter of preference but if Arc and Sammy say Accent Core is the new standard, then that's what it'll become for tournaments.
do the game companies really make the choice in what gets played at tournaments???

I woulda thought it's the tourney organizers themselves, why wouldnt it? tho I do understand SBO is a real big commercial event. Maybe the game developers really do choose what is and isnt standard (tho that sounds real dumb...)

tho as I said, after SBO will be when the real verdict about accent core will be out, coz players are most likely keeping a lot of secrets at the moment.

but umm... from what I read AC introduces a type of "EX" moves for characters, think like in 3S or Darkstalkers.

also, I've noticed a new type of stagger/dizzy type state where u slide across the floor.

and I heard something about 'slashback' I think... I dont kno what that is tho.

edits: from wikipedia

In addition to balance changes along the lines of those in #Reload and Slash, Λ Core features a new type of special move, the "Force Break," which consumes 25% of the Tension bar when used. Most characters have gained new special moves, and some have had existing specials (or powered-up versions of existing specials) converted into Force Break attacks. It also introduces moves that make opponents stick briefly to walls or slide across the floor of a stage.

and from youtube, slashback looks something like a just defend, tho I do not kno how exactly to execute it:

Friendly reminder to my fighting game friends....

Play-Asia 20% off sale ends REALLY soon... like less than 3 hours soon.. X_X

They still have some good fighting games up for grabs...
do the game companies really make the choice in what gets played at tournaments???
I didn't mean that they directly dictate what gets played, but rather if they say this version fixes issues with Slash, balances characters, and adds to gameplay; they're essentially saying here's a 'patch' that we recommend you install. For the same reason they play CvS2, MvC2, GGXX:/Slash, SF3:3S, SSF2T, T5:DR, VF5, and even SSBM; they'll most likely play Accent Core. Unless it's found to be broken, the tourney industry often embraces the latest and greatest as the 'best.'

No sarcasm intended there. Just pointing that out.

yo dudes. Posting from lovely Cancun where internet use is $5 for 15 minutes!

There are no arcade games anywhere but I've been playing the hell out of Melty Blood and Tobal No.1 on my laptop during my afternoon siestas!

really all they do is nerf everybody's moves and make them learn new shit.

once everyone figures it out, or 'breaks' it, they'll make a new one.

at least that's how it is with ggxx from what I have gained watching videos,

the revisions havent really been improvements by any means,

moreso jus changes in frame data and float properties to make one change their tactics

That might be the single most awesome thing I have ever seen.

So, who is the chick with the Mooninite panties?
Anyone heard of Kakuge-Yaro: Fighting Game Creator? I saw one in a couple stores for about $10. I guess it's a fighting game maker but instead of 3D it's 2D, so I thought it looked kinda intresting.

So far I've picked up KOF XI, SamSho Tenka, Jump Ultimate Stars and Jojo's Phantom Mask (even though it's not a fighting game). The Jump Ultimate Star I got pretty cheap, $25!!!
Lucky bastard ;)

Still got some stuff to unlock before I start playing on WFC.
I hope we get Accent Core in the US, but only on the Wii
So you're saying you WANT me to vomit on myself?

Sorry I can't join in for Gears this weekend. I'm out of town until Sunday.

I want to unlock more JoJo's characters, do you know how many there are? Is it just JoJo and Dio?

EDIT: I played some VF5 here in Tokyo and I actually WON!!! Finally after $10. I must be a god in America now. But the game that really caught my attention is this Gundamn "pod" game. You sit in an inclosed pod which is like the cockpit for a Gundamn. The screen surrounds you like a bubble and you play in 1st person. It's played online so you're against other players from diffrent arcades around tokyo. I played it a couple times but it's so expensive, $5 per play. They need this America.

Here's the pods:

Capcom's making the Fate/Stay Night game? I didn't see that coming, honestly.

Oh, and I'm at home now. If you ho's want to play Gears.

That's friggin awesome. I'd be scared to play that though. Louis Gosset, Jr. might find me and tell me I'm the last Starfighter.

ayo congratulations to JEKKI who got his xiaoyu to Dreaded Fist on tekken PSP, which I read at TZ is suppose to be the highest rank!!

I think I'm slightly more than 500 wins, 110-ish losses, the percentage I left it at is exactly 80%

I tested out Baek for my net guy but he doesnt seem to be too interesting, I'll give him more time before I decide his fate.

anyway I found sum dope vids:

http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=benj81
lots of Japanese HnK matches, some combo vids, and SBO matches!!

http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=vclilith
Melty Blood, GG Slash, HnK, KOFXI, 3S SBO matches (all final rounds???)

hot shit!!

I finally played my copy of KOF XI for the first time. What a great game. It plays much faster than other KOF. Oswald is the coolest new character to hit the KOF series since K'.
dood!!

Baek is pretty dope! I practiced him well.

I think I made a good choice :bouncy:
If you play him, it's mandatory to play in the pimp suit...

and the most broken haha
How about 2003 Duolon X_X
That guy could do frickin' anything he wanted. It was crazy. And kinda cool.

I do play as Oswald in KOF XI though... definitely a more difficult character to get down, but he carves people up pretty damn quick. His team super is pretty fuckin' awesome.

Im wondering if I should open my sealed copy of Guilty Gear Isuka or not...

Btw, no fighter thread is complete without some Saikyo power!

That game is crap. Sell it.

I hear Duck King is pretty fierce in KOFXI. Confirm or deny. (Chac, Jim, Rodimus)

He's got LONG ass combo's, and he's pretty solid as a set-up man for tag-in combos. He's not one of the best or anything (well, maybe) but he's definately very solid. Just kinda awkward to get used to at first.

He's an insulting character to get beat up by though. Never play as him myself, but my friends only seem to like playing as him because he's such a tool.

I'm convinced the most fearsome character in KOF XI is Oswald... though if Yamazaki was in there, I would single handedly change that (shanking people ftw.)
