Yeah, but many people hold the Mario games in much higher regards than anything on the Sega collection. The extras in this are terrible, sure; but the games stand on their own like few other games can.
There are quite a few people who like the Sonic games better. Still my point is Sega released a collection of over 40 games and updated them to HD. Nintendo re-released a collection of only 4 games that were originally on a single SNES cartridge and didn't update them at all (not even the controller screen). Even past Nintendo compilations like the Zelda Collection (which was free with a Nintendo Power subscription) and Metroid Prime Trilogy were better values. Hell, when All-Stars was originally released for the SNES many people got it for free and back then it was a much better value inherently.
Nintendo should have released a compilation featuring both the NES originals and All-Stars, Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, Mario Bros. (arcade version), the GBA versions, and thrown in some bonus Mario titles like Dr. Mario and Super Mario Kart and updated all of them with 480p visuals. That would have been a fitting 25th anniversary tribute.
For me, it's one word: nostalgia. To be specific, blind nostalgia. Is it a lazy port? Very definition of lazy. Is it over-priced? IMHO, most definitely. Truth be told, I would have much rather pay 50 bucks for this to be updated to modern standards, than to pay 30 for the product that was released, but regardless of all that, the bottom line is that this game was a huge part of my childhood, and I can be quite the sucker at times for nostalgia, even it be blind, as the case is here.
It's the same reason I purchased the Dino Megazord, even though I've only played with it once or twice (and I knew that going in), and it's same reason I find the Hey Dude theme enjoyable, even though I hated the show as a kid.
But aren't you actually nostalgic for the original NES versions of the Super Mario Bros. games and not the SNES update?
I have the original Dino Megazord.

It was remade wasn't it? I assume you got a new one? As for Hey Dude I loved that show as a kid and it had a very memorable theme song.
I should mention I did get this Wii release. Pre-ordered it in fact but I had hoped for so much more. It doesn't change my stance that it's a terrible value for what you actually get. Nintendo should be embarrassed and ultimately they could have made even more money with a better collection. I'll definitely pass on any future releases this lazy.
