Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info

....fuck Marth and everything he stands for.
Specifically, he stands for Hector, Greil, and the Black Knight not getting in.

EDIT: This, however, is great knews:
ssbb_spoilers_port_city.jpg

Look at the bottom. Character portraits now go transparent when people are behind them. No more losing your characters on the bottom of the screen! Also, there's a soccer ball there for some reason.

What the fuck? I know I'll probably get shit about this, but c'mon.

Is there ANY reason for 3 people to have the SAME Final Smash??

Falco, Fox, AND Wolf ALL have the fuckin Landmaster. Is there any reason for that? I know someone will find an excuse, but there isn't. I'm starting to not mind the roster.. Really. But when I see things like that, that's really disappointing. The reason it is disappointing (Now Im only talking about 3 people with the same FS) is because there is SO much detail to this game. Everything about this game amazes me, so I assumed that all the characters would *AT LEAST* have their own FS. You can't say that I am wrong for this! You KNOW that is lame and lazy!

But Jigglypuffs FS looks AWESOME!!!! \\:D/

The whole Star Fox FS thing is just EXTREMELY lazy for a game of this caliber. I don't care how much other work has been done in other aspects of the game. A lot of other fighting games wouldn't be given a free pass, so this one shouldn't either. Basically, the "truly" unique roster count is verified to be down to about 28 to 30 at this moment, which is not bad by any means. I'm just hoping there aren't anymore clones (Luigified characters are OK) than the ones we already know about.
Is windwaker link a clone? I was looking forward to a unique character :(
I guess the general consensus is:

Ganondorf- Luigified
Falco- Clone
Wolf- Luigified
Toon Link- Clone with different animations
Ness/Lucas (whichever you consider to be "newer")- Undecided

I think it's debatable whether Falco is still a true clone or not, as well. From what I understand he's duel wielding blasters and I've seen him throw his shine in gameplay footage.
Not sure. Would be surprised if we didn't get a Shadow paintjob.

I think I'll suicide that one a couple of times.
Actually, Shadow isn't. I just remember reading 7810+ threads on gamefaqs about that. Tails apparently makes a cameo in the SSE.. and some say he's an AT. So who knows.

thank god for the cag forums i was gettin sick of all those landmaster jokes on gamefaqs.

so far the setting up for thie game has been idiotic.
they revealed all the new characters first and then when the game came out in japan it revelead a ton of Vets. if it was the other way around our minds would be going crazy and counting the seconds till this game came out.

the clones are annoying too and the same FS for a lot of the characters.
i mean yeah theres a ton of characters but most of them are the same person in a different body.

still getting this for sure
Shadow isn't what? You didn't finish that sentence.
Shadow the Hedgehog is not an alternative costume to Sonic the Hedgehog.

I never understood the hate for Gamefaqs because CAG is only forum that I frequent.

Desperate for Smash Bros. information, I lurked at Gamefaqs while the site was down.

I now understand the hate for Gamefaqs.

Shadow is an AT according to what I've read online, but I haven't seen a video of him in action.

Tails and Knuckles run by in the background of Sonic's stage, no idea if they're in the game otherwise.

Yay! CAG is back! :D

On a related note, I GOT BRAWL! XD

I've completed the SSE and unlocked every character, but I haven't found 1 character in SSE.

To confirm a few things previously mentioned:
-Shadow is an AT, Tails and Knux are NOT (but they can be seen running by in the background of Sonic's stage as mentioned)
-Toon Link (his in-game name) plays like Link, but is much faster, has a different boomerang attack, and has some BADASS Alt costumes. My favs being Shadow Toon Link and Classic Zelda 1 colors! (Brown sleeves/hair)
-Wolf is a lot like Fox/Falco, but he is MUCH stronger, a bit slower, and has a different forward+B move (a jumping attack).
-SSE took me about 9 hours to complete, but I finished the story with 90% completion rate. There are extra missions to do after completing the story (like finding Toon Link, Wolf, and Jigglypuff).
Got any questions?
Ask away!

Fly over to PA and let me have the game? :bouncy:

Now that I think of it, I am impressed with the lineup. Ok sure it may not have every character that I wanted on there (ok just one, fucking megaman) but after looking at it only

Ike
Falco
Wolf
Ganondorf
Lucas
Toon Link

could be considered clones in my opinion. Now I don't know which of these have been Luigified. So thats 6/35 roster that could be potential clones and if they are luigified they get off the list for me. So that right there is the original count of Melee clones so they did do a good job handling the clones in my opinion.

About Zero Suit Samus...
IS Playable from the Menu
- GameCube/Classic: Hold R while selecting
- Wiimote: Hold Minus while selecting
- Wiimote/Nunchuck: Hold Z while selecting

These are of course by standard control methods, no mapping.
Needless to say, I'm pleased.
Oh yea, see I told ya it was 35!!!

^_^
donno if thats something to be happy about haha

well if u take out Pokemon trainer thats 34 and add 3 for the 3 pokemon, have zero suit samus thats 38 :D

I'm not happy/sad nor do I care about it much... I actually think 35 is a fine #... This is a solid roster and I've been happy with it since I heard about it way back...

One thing I do know for sure though is!!

I love the soundtrack ^_^

who are u going to main now that u know the entire roster?

ill probably play as lucario or sonic cause theyre fast and look cool

Lucario is trash as far as I can tell. Sonic has potential to be a good character. His footspeed is ridiculous, but his air speed is only marginally fast in comparison. Generally lacking killing attacks, but a lot of his moves are safe. Can chain attacks a little bit better than most because of his speed.

I still dont feel like I have a character, but I'm doing pretty good with Marth.

Metaknight has high priority and fast, but low ranged attacks. Good for chaining and doing lots of damage, but not great on killing moves. Then again, killing moves have been toned down in general. Peach's down smash, Fox's up smash, Sheik's aerial forward A, for example, are all effectively gone.

Marth still has retained the deadly tip of the sword and range, while Captain Falcon still has the knee, the spike and the flip kick. I see Captain Falcon being really good.

Zelda's aerial forward A, the kick, has been improved I think. Its a beast. Her forward B projectile is actually useable now. Much faster. Lucas seems good.

The game is balanced well. The big characters are much more useable because of those no flinch frames at the start of many attacks and the raw killing power that is absent from most of the roster.

Marth is still vicious... I think I'm going to use Wolf, I'm digging him so far... he also has one of the best taunts ever lol...

YES! She's the first character I'm using.

*drool*

I almost won me a free copy of Brawl yesterday in a GameStop tournament at Serramonte. Unfortunately, I went up against LuninSpectra, one of the best (if not THE best) Fox players on this side of the country. D=
I finally gave up on waiting for some deal to pop up and just reserved it at Gamestop after all.
If Nintendo has this month delay they damn well better have enough copies to go around.
How is the online mode? Can you play against people in Japan?
I would guess that if someone in the US tried to play with someone in Japan the lag would make the game nearly unplayable.
DMK, I heard (from GamqFAQS, LOL) that the game has slowed down A LOT. Can you confirm or deny this?
The engine feels completely different. The Havok logo is on the back of the box, but I dont know to what capacity it is used.

It does seem slower though. Overall its closer to the 64 version than Melee.

Everyone falls slower. Floaty if you will. It makes it to where you cant really get more than 1 or 2 attacks or someone. Also, everything technical that they could find has been removed. No wavedashing, no L-canceling, no jump canceled grabs and so on and so forth.

Fast falling is still there, but in many cases, it actually increases the amount of recovery lag when you land. Recovery lag seems purely based on where you are in the attack animation. If you are up in the air a while and the attack is completed, its like you never attacked as far as landing animation. Walking, jogging and dashing animation have subtle animation based differences that effect your moves from them. Its interesting.

Its so different. Even the stuff that looks the same feels different.

Someone has ripped the soundtrack. The game has in the range of 300 available songs. The amount of music is phenomenal. If there is ever an OST released, I wouldn't be surprised to see it in the 5-6 CD range. In fact, I hope there is. It looks like around 80-85% is arranged, new music while the rest are just direct ports from the game.

Below, is a list of how many tracks there are for each series according to the rip.
Mario Bros. (Includes Mario Kart, Sunshine, ect.) - 19
Donkey Kong - 10
Legend of Zelda - 18
Metroid - 10
Yoshi - 6
Kirby - 12
Star Fox - 10
Pokemon - 10
F-Zero - 10
Fire Emblem - 11
Earthbound - 6
Pikmin - 8
Wario (A lot of short medleys from the games) - 17
Animal Crossing - 11
Kid Icarus - 4
NES Remixes (Retro?) - 13
Nintendo (Wii Channel, Other Random Nintendo Games) - 16
Metal Gear Solid - 9
Smash Bros. - 4
Sonic - 12
Smash Bros. Melee Game Themes (direct rips) - 30
??? Brawl Specific Themes? - 40
Victory Themes - 27

Same, I need to go out and pre-order this week. At worst, there's usually a 10% coupon for GameStop out, and I could always transfer it to something else anyway.
