Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info
wtf is attack spamming, using the same move over and over? If that gets you angry you probably need to get better.
If that is it, then that person would be so easy to beat.

Not like "snaking" at all as the above poster said.
Is it just me or does the game only seem ok without items?
It makes it more about strategy than getting lucky items. A lot of shielding and dodging than running around grabbing all parts of the dragoon. I like both ways of playing.

On Items: I alternate between most items on, and all items off. I generally do large fights with items on, and 1v1 with them off. However, I always take out the big healing items, clocks, lightning, both mushrooms, the Dragoon, and the cracker launcher. And really, when I do pick up a weapon, 90% of the time it's just to throw at a guy. Ike's already got great melee - chucking a laser sword is my way of compensating for his lack of ranged attacks.
- All-Star mode. It's the last thing I have to do, so it might be a cause of that, but 37 characters (you have to go through all 3 Pokemon for PT) with all characters (including ZSS and Sheik) is a PAIN IN THE ASS. 15 characters would've been fine. 35 = too much. For the next one, if it was 45-50, I'm not doing it.
I don't think you have to use all three Pokemon. They all have the exact same Final Smash animation, so there's only one trophy, no?
- Attack spamming. You do this against me, I'm never playing you again. Period. You ruin the fun. It's just like snaking. It makes me not want to play anymore.
To quote my boy Ike: You'll get no sympathy from me.
- Zero Suit Samus. A really fun character to play with and take photos of.
She's probably been my biggest surprise. I never really liked playing as regular Samus, but ZSS is awesome.
 I don't get that, though - to me, the fun part is the variety of characters. Though I don't really get the appeal of Ike at all, but then maybe I'd feel differently if I'd played Fire Emblem?
Oh, probably. Ike got pretty god damn badass towards the end of Fire Emblem 10. "Yeah, I know we're going to lose. I don't care. We're humans - we've been fighting for the last one thousand years. I think we've gotten pretty good at it. So you keep coming back, and I'll keep fighting, 'cause that's all I know how to do."
I know I'm not a very good player, but there's still a point where it stops being about my lousiness, and starts being about getting gang raped by 2 or 3 Ikes. I don't mind losing at all, but that *does* get boring.
Yeah, I can appreciate that. That's one of the big reasons I was hesitant to use Ike at first - I figured he'd be one of the more popular characters regardless of how good he was. But when I actually got my hands on him...

I'm not sure if this has been asked in this thread already, but what are your guys favorite stages?

I love Bridge of Eldin, New Pork City, and the Mario Bros. stage. Although, I don't really have anything against any of the stages. Apart from a few exceptions, they all seem really balanced and fun.

GG crystal, we played alot. kept kicking my ass.
sorry to the others i rejected. i was trying to practice one vs ones.
need to get that sidestep move down.
I love Bridge of Eldin,
Same.
New Pork City,
Not me. The camera is too zoomed out even when opponents are close together.
and the Mario Bros. stage.
Not big on that one. Looks great, but killing people's a bitch. 90% of the fatalities are level-hazard-related.

My favourites are probably the Bridge, Warioware, The Pirate Ship, the Mario Kart one, and the F-Zero one. Also, the Tetris-themed levels that I made. That Type A music is so fucking good...

my stage rotation is FD / Battlefield / Smashville / Yoshi Stage / Lylat Cruise / Delfino / Corneria / Pokemon Stadium 1.

spamming attacks isn't too smart, the game penalizes you for abusing attacks. i noticed it myself when i used to spam arrows with pit and the damage goes down by a ton, really fast. it also decreases your knockback so certain moves won't kill when they usually should, so you might wanna save 'em.

how're you guys losing to Ike? he's mega slow and has a ton of weakpoints.

He has a few weak points, but most of them require semi-decent reflexes to take advantage of, and when playing online you don't have the level of control you do locally, making it much harder to exploit those weaknesses. However, as Strell has said many times, it is also a problem for the slower characters getting back up on the stage since you may have pushed a button a while ago and it is just now kicking in when you need to recover.

... I want that game so damn bad.

Brawl-wise:

I do want to know what attack spamming is.

Attack-spamming, like using Kirby's Up+B over and over again. I had to go against that one time in a team battle, and it was annoying as fuck.

What?

WHAT?

You of all people don't get to ask this question.

Yeah, I went there, motherfucker.

Using a move over and over again is a really fast way to get yourself knocked the fuck off the stage. I understand the annoying element of it - and two yoshis doing butt-slam on a clueless Ike can be hilarious for a while...... until the player who is being "spammed" figures out what the L and R keys are there for.

And that if you press A while holding them, you perform a GRAB.

Of course I know to block. I said it was annoying, not unbeatable. Once we killed his partner, or at the very least, seperated them, the team crumbled.
Here's what I hate about this game:

- Boss Battles. More specifically on Intense. I hate the fact you can't use continues, and the fact that you have to do this by yourself in order to break open the challenge window.
I beat "Very Hard" mode with a friend, and the window opened up.

Complaining about me getting smash balls and KO-ing you with a FireFlower is just....dumb.

Yeah, because we all know how useful the C-stick is in the air AND while using the fireflower.

I never expected such epic failure in a comeback from you, oh wise one.
Alright, I got a better one.

fuck you.
Damn, dude. Ouch. That's totally inappropriate. My feelings are hurt.
I think the most annoying attack spamming that I've come across recently is Pit's side+B.
Hahaha. Decrot was trying that today and it sucked for awhile. I was using Falco and kept trying to shoot him but the damn thing reflects projectiles. So eventually, I figured out 2 ways around it without jumping/rolling.

1. Down+B, Falco's Down+B is awesome anyway, and he kicks that reflector right through the blade shield knocking Pitt down too.

2. Foward Smash, this is a bit harder as you have to have the spacing just right, but Falco's forward smash hits pretty low and if you can make it so just the very tip of his wings hit, you can smash through without taking any damage.

Great when the other person thinks you'll just hit the blade shield and be interrupted, as you can charge up a full smash on em'.

You can also rush towards them and keep pressing the button towards Pit to go through that attack. Even if the opponent is good he won't be able to stop spinning right round baby right round like a record baby round round round round in time to get away from your grab. Most of the time, however, the opponent will actually delay enough for you to charge up your smash ever so slightly to punch the shit out of him. Result? He might deal at most 30% damage in such a situation, without a fleeting hope to actually make you go a-flying. With an executed smash, you can most certainly return those 30%, except all at once and with a satisfying BYAH!

I finally got registered my copy of SSBB for online. If anyone is up for a game, code is in my sig.

EDIT: cant see my sig. right now. My code is:0946-2165-7772
Explain. Falco's down B is the main thing I don't like about that otherwise awesome character. Okay, so I can kick it at people - but is that the only advantage it has over Fox and Wolf's reflector?

Can you go back to previous stages and correct things you've missed? Right now I'm at the maze...
I was going to character select and realized I must have missed Ike in the stage where they're all trophies :( If I go back, can I get him still? and if so, will I lose any of my maze progress by going back? If I DON'T go get him, does that affect any other part of the game, or just adventure mode?

The range on it is pretty nice. It can reflect stuff earlier, since it goes towards the opponent, I guess.

Range mainly. Gives you a quick attack with no character hitbox with a good cover range and it knocks down. Also, it can reflect. Since it covers a pretty large range for a melee attack its good for hitting someone in a roll as well.

Wolf's reflector is the worst IMO as its knockback is almost non-existent. Fox's is pretty good. I dunno if this changed from SSB or SSBM but you can't shield break Fox now when he's using his reflector. I know, I tried for awhile last night.

edits here:
Apparently thats wrong about not being able to break it. For one I was using Wolf not Fox.

yea i just found out about that today. I was getting pissed at you shooting at me, oh man. then all of a sudden your shot reflected and i was like oh snap.
I'd like to see a team tournament. Who wants to be with me !?
Man, if this happens, we're going to see some schoolyard-style drafting here.

"Hmm, I pick dallow!"
"Oh yeah? Gimme Strell!"

...Actually, that sounds like it'd be fun.

is it even possible to play teams on our friends list?

I got picked over Strell!

Just like in real life.
is it even possible to play teams on our friends list?
Yes. Make a room, click the "Brawl" in the top-left of the character-select screen, and wait for four people. Easy as pie.

Don't get picked last. ;)

My bro is a master at edge guarding using the new reflector. If you grab ledge...

1: up or ledgehop... reflector to make you grab ledge again, repeat
2: roll - punished with smash or throw. threat of spiking dair makes you choose between grabbing ledge or trying to jump onto stage
3: attack - shieldgrab, see 2
4: jump - anything from dash-usmash to any aerials

mmmm, i wouldn't DI towards it... i don't think it works that well. i'd rather DI away. it also does a lot less damage than you think, i remember i connected with it and it sounded like i hit him a lot, but i did a measly 8%. Also, I don't know any smash that does 30%, even charged...

Pit's Side+B has nothing on Metaknight's neutral B. I still haven't figured out how to get around that one.

Well for #1, it'd just be a battle of patience.
The rest just depends on how lucky you get with your timing and whether or not the game recognizes your inputs the first time heh. Playing online requires different tactics IMO.

Anyone else find laggy online matches kind of fun? They remind me of those slow-mo action scenes in movies, and when they become a giant tauntfest it can be kind of hilarious.

It pisses me off when they happen constantly but I don't really mind them on occasion.
