Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info
You know what would be a really cool character? The pong paddle. That's it, you just get to slide up and down and whoop ass.
Phbhbhbt. I'm getting triangle spaceship from Asteroids and I'm going to kick that paddle's non-existent ass.
I get it now! You didn't have a childhood...First Donkey Kong, now Sonic...What else doesn't this guy like? Mario??
Haha!
The fact that the Sonic vs. Mario rivialry was more of a kiddie thing had nothing to do with the fact that it was, as zerowing said, the symbol of the biggest, in my opinion greatest, console war of all time.

But more importantly, Sonic 1-3 were just plain good. While Mario clearly outshines Sonic in the modern games, that doesn't change the fact that the Genesis games are simply classics.
The fact that the war went all the way to Congress where Nintendo knocked Sega for all the violence in Mortal Kombat 2 and right in front of everyone, literally, Sega pulls out the Super Scope from behind their backs and asks Nintendo 'What about this?' will never be equaled in any other console war.

Man. Every update makes me just a bit more pumped for this game.

Oh, and me, I would LOVE Sonic in the game. I used to play Sonic back in the day. It was Sonic > Mario for me.
I played most every sonic game up till Sonic Adventure 2. That was the last one.
I even liked SA and SA2.
I REALLY hope he makes it into the game.
As for the Sonic hate, I could careless. As long as he's in the game.
I hope he is. :]
As for the Sonic hate, I could careless. As long as he's in the game.
I don't think everybody who doesn't want Sonic in the game hates Sonic. Personally, I was a big Sonic fan back in the day and still hope to get more good Sonic games but I would hate to see him in SSBB.

I think there are two main reasons people don't want him in the game. The first is that he doesn't seem to fit into the game. He doesn't really have any real move set that comes to mind. He can move fast and jump. I'm not sure how well that will translate to a fighting game. Although I'm open to suggestions from people.

Secondly, its obvious that the quality of Sonic games has declined since the old Genesis days but yet it seems like Sega continues to pimp him out to sell games. I'm just worried that if he's in SSBB it'll be simply because Sega wanted him in yet another game and they just throw him in.

I feel like adding Sonic at this point would be just a gimmick to sell more games. That is why I don't want him in. Although if he is in the game and is more than just a gimmick I would love it. I just don't know how well he translates to a fighting game.

And Game and Watch did?
You can make moves for anyone, anything. This is hardly the problem.

And if Sega wants to throw Sonic in, let them!
It's not Sega who is making this game, it's star Nintendo devs.

And Mr. Game and Watch sucked. He felt like a gimmick.
I wouldn't want that to happen to Sonic.

Also, I know Sega is not making this game, so obviously they don't get the final say. I'm sure they have some pull over whether he is in it or not.

I don't see how Sonic has any more or less of a move set than anyone else in the game. I mean, I'm not as familiar with Nintendo classics as most people around here, but do the other Smash characters really have that much of a move set in their original games? i.e. I thought Captain Falcon just drove racers.
I thought Captain Falcon just drove racers.
He's also a bounty hunter, which helps add to the idea of him having a moveset. I never watched the cartoon but either moves came from that as well, or inspired whatever moves he uses in the show.

Also, Sonic already had a fighting game on the GBA (which was kind of fun), and it was replete with moves, so copying straight from there wouldn't be a problem.

'Course I still don't want him in there, but meh.
Didn't the cartoon come after the Smash games?
I dunno, which is why it could be one way or the other. I'm guessing the cartoons came after Smash, because I want to say they came after F-Zero GX and the two GBA games that adopted the anime style currently used for Captain Falcon. So it's probably - ultimately - open-ended enough to allow pretty much any character to be given a move set.

I mean, I know he does Falcon Punch in the cartoon at some point.

The stuff about him being a bounty hunter should have been in place since the SNES game though.

You just suck then.

And I guess everybody forgot about the 3D Sonic fighting game on Saturn years back.
Wait, did that get cancelled? Hard to remember now.

G&W is indeed awesome, and if you aren't careful, I will parachute and torch your ass, to say nothing of a sausage assault.

There was a Sonic fighting game (I think it's just called Sonic Fighters) that was 3D. Never played it, but I'm pretty sure the Sonic compilations of last gen have it on 'em.

Here we go:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_the_Fighters

I remember being very excited for that.

Cool info:
The game saw very limited release in North American arcades, as Sega of America considered the game's portrayal of Sonic and his friends to be too violent, and feared it gave Sonic a negative image. Nevertheless, a new fighting game was later released years later for the Game Boy Advance called Sonic Battle.
A Sega Saturn version of the game was also announced but never released; the game was never ported to home consoles until Sonic Gems Collection, for the GameCube and, in Europe/Japan, the PlayStation 2.
Must import........

Sonic's Moves

Down + B = Spin Dash

Side + B = forward dash (Think Sonic Adventure games. When you turn into a blue-blur ball and smash into baddies)

B = Throw little furry friend

Up + B = Quick dash upwards

There, I just made those up in about 5 minutes.

Ah, I forgot about the Sonic fighting game. My bad. Anything Saturn related is barely known to me. It is one of the few systems I have never owned.

I'm saying Megaman should be in the game more so than any other 3rd party character. He's been on every Nintendo Console (mind you not the Virtual Boy) and he's easier to convert a moveset for. His Final Smash could Rush fly in and fly him around the stage as he blows them away. When he kills someone he would absorb their powers, like Kirby does, and use them for the rest of the battle.

To take a short remission from this "Sonic sucks! You suck!" bruhaha, I'd like to say that Go KK Rider is everything a video game song should be and more.
Sonic as a playable character, and his final smash is going Super Sonic? fuck YES!
This is now the only way I'll truly accept Sonic.
Kojima's birthday is tomorrow. I hope they have a gift for him.
What better gift than.......PETEY PIRANHA confirmed as a BOSS CHARACTER!

modea04_070824a.jpg

"In Super Smash Bros. Brawl: The Subspace Emissary, it’s rumored that there will be boss appearances.

This time, I’d like to introduce the first boss you encounter: Petey Piranha!"

I hope that means saving one over the other drastically changes the story, because that would add a lot of replayability (to the story mode). It better be more than a small cutscene change!

Branching storylines for the fucking WIN!

Now the real conundrum reveals itself. Who will lilboo save first? :hot:

LOL I WONDER?!

I'd love for you to save one of them.. and the other one gets pissed and you gotta fight her! I can save Peach AND whoop Zelda's ass!

It makes you think: Maybe THIS will be how you can unlock people? I wouldn't be against that really. Maybe not necessarily unlocking Peach or Zelda (maybe it'll unlock them to use in story mode)

GOD I WISH WE KNEW MORE ABOUT THIS GAME! Damn these little daily excerpts! ...They always leave cliffhangers on Friday (usually)..GRRR

I wonder if we'll have more ultimatums in story mode.. that would be SOOO awesome. The replay value of it would be pretty big!

You people must be wusses. Imma figure out a way to save both of 'em at the same time.

I'm just pimp like that. The rest of yous aren't.
Change the title to "Petey Piranha NOT PLAYABLE", please. You're going to give some poor CAG a heart-attack on this one.
Totally agreed. I saw the title and thought awww fuck, did they really make this 2nd rate character playable? The actual update itself is perfect though.
that picture of Zelda looks really, really good IMO. I would easily save Zelda, fuck peach.
That's exactly what I was thinking.

I'm actually not a fan of this update, as the villains are my favorite characters to play as, usually. Throwing in boss characters just thins out the chances of quite a few villains making it into the roster.

One thing you guys are forgetting that Peach has Zelda beat in: Peach has way better DSL (no, not the internet connection term...). Why do you think mario goes out of the way to save Peach all the time? mystery solved.
