Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info

I don't really like captain falcon much anymore. He seems to of been made slower compared to the rest of the characters where he was one of the faster ones before. I'll give it more time, but I'll probably switch to a faster character. Pit seems like a pretty good candidate for me.

Also the emissary mode is quite longer than I had thought it would be. I've sunk quite a few hours into it and still have a bit to go I think. Which is making it feels a little bit tedius.

Overall the game is good and definitely better than Melee in my opinion. This stuff will definitely take quite some time to complete.

What sucks is the fucking power went out at my place at 11:30. It was out for a good 2+ hours, long enough for me to say fuck and go to bed so no late night smash for me :bomb:

Olimar has the potential to be very good. His smash attacks are fantastic, and he has a great range on most of his attacks. The pikmin really help to add up damage fast. The only downsides that I can see thus far is that he is somewhat difficult to use, due to not knowing which pikmin you will have available, and that his recovery isn't too great. Other than that, I think we'll see some fantastic Olimar users in the future.

I'm really very disappointed in the online features, and I'm not even talking about the lack of voice chat and/or text chat. Why can't we "join" a friend's match in session in order to be added to the next round? Why can't we invite friends to join a room? I've enjoyed the few matches that I've played already, but the lack of options have really left a bitter taste in my mouth. Online capabilities is the only area of gaming in which I feel Nintendo really has no clue what they're doing, and one of their largest titles shows it.

yeah, online is really a mess.

The notification messages are also unclear. There's "seeking" status--I can join people with that. There's "waiting" status-- If I try to join someone with that, then I get disconnected from WFC. Then I was waiting for a match and "TIME" kept scrolling across the screen...as if I'm supposed to know what that meant.

The worst part is hosting--who the heck on the SSBB team thought it would be a good idea to have a time limit while waiting for people to join? :roll: We can't message each other, we can't read minds, so limiting the time you can search for someone is a kick in the nuts.

I guess we'll just have to wait for the patch....or not. :bomb:


sorry for the rant. Just very frustrating that such an awesome game has to have the most unfortunate online setup.

I like using Capt. Olimar as much as I like that new DK stage (the one that scrolls up)...needless to say, I hate it.
 
The only efficient move of Olimar's, IMO, is his up + A attack.

On the other hand, Diddy Kong is fantastic. He's got great close and decent range attacks that work excellent together.

especially considering that you have to wait 45 freaking sec b/w each PM, that's almost 40 min of PM'ing. No way in hell am I going to do that. If everyone would just add everyone that they see on the list, we would all be brawling. Instead it's impossible to find a game because they NEED a PM before they add you, doesn't make sense to me. I have filled up my FC list, and if I PM'ed everyone on the list, that would be 54 minutes of PM'ing, assuming that it takes you 5 sec to send the actual message.
 
Pudd, just curious what name so you see when you play against me. I'm wondering if you see my control scheme name or the friend code name.

Snake's actually my new favorite. He's slow (like the strategy guide says, "he carries a lot of gear"), but his weapons are so versatile; it's just so much fun to use the claymores and C4. His up smash is amazing: that mortar is evil. So Snake really suits my favorite play style: stay out of the fray and make sneaky attacks.

However, there is one thing I don't like about Snake, besides his lack of speed: he can't jump very high. It's rather annoying sometimes. Thankfully, his Up+B move carries him exceptionally high, so that balances things out a bit. Also, his lack of good jumping only partially holds him back in target tests: using the Nikita makes things so much easier...well...guess who I got Lucario with?

Just used Diddy for the first time...he is pretty good :)
 
i played this last night for the first time...

i tried using the wii mote + nunchuck, that was a mistake.

then i tried using a 3rd party wireless gamecube controller, which was, better... but the controller is kinda screwy in that "up" is easy to hit, even if im just trying to go left/right/down. its a bit too sensitive on the joystick, so that sucked too.

Anyone know if a classic controller would be better?

If you have been having issues, I may have a solution. Before clicking Brawl after Connecting to Wi-Fi, make sure both of the options are declined. after doing that mine works perfectly now. Good luck!
 
Am I the only one who likes the wii-mote/chuck combo? I think it's great!

I'm a big fan of Pit and Sonic (now that I have him unlocked). I'm going at it rather slow for the unlocking considering my entire time playing it was yesterday...for about 6-7 hours of five of us taking turns jumping into 4 man brawls.

I couldn't put in cheapwiigamer, so I just put in Tom (my real name). Figure I'll be one of the only Tom's, or I could switch it for online play. However I think that everyone will soon realize Tom = cheapwiigamer as I play online more.

Is anyone else having issues seeing the Wi-fi Options menu? This is what I see. Here's the menu with the options. I can't get today's stage/picture/replay, or do anything in spectator mode either. What's going on?
 
Now I can' t even connect. Error 61010. Nintendo is more then happy to take my $9 for an import SNES title, but won't let me play Brawl online.

Widescreen/Fullscreen issues?
 
I got the game yesterday afternoon but didnt get home to play it untill 9:30 pm but I played it untill 2:30 am. I would have kept playing but I started seeing doubles of my character and it was getting hard to play. :) I have been maining Link ever since the N64 and so far IU ahve been using him in brawl but I am getting tempted to try out some of the new characters. So far the only problem I have withthe game is the lag with online play but I am willing to give Nintendo time to get there stuff up and running.

I don't think so, but I may try switching later today to see if that fixes it.

Apparently, from what I've read so far, deleting your Brawl data will cause it to show up, but I really don't want to do that as I've played through several hours of SSE in addition to inputting over 50 friend codes.

Edit: Also, deleting your data changes your friend code, so do so at your own risk!
