Surprisingly The Last Movie You Saw Didn't Suck Pt. 2
Duel to the Death - 4/5 - This is one of the many films that Tarantino supposedly got inspiration from for Kill Bill. The best fighter from China vs the best fighter from Japan in an ancient duel. There are ninjas that jump out of the sand, ninjas on kites, 25' tall ninja that blows up into 8 normal-sized ninjas. There are many scenes where you get either the japanese samurai taking out enemies or the shaolin warrior fighting ninjas. It is hard not to be entertained by this movie.

There are moments where u will laugh at the film due to wires being visible during a fight or the extremely rediculous premise of having ninja's ambush a man at night by hanging on to some sorta kites. Duel to the Death is just a lot of fun. The action scenes are top notch with lots of exploding ninjas near the end of the film & the story is pretty decent. Overall this movie is a must see for fans of kungfu movies.
Just ordered this based on this.

Rescue Dawn - good movie, hard to believe that guy made it out of there and went on to survive 4 more plane crashes.

Wonderful World - very relatable movie. Liked it a lot. Matthew Broderick did great and Sanaa Latham is smokin hot.

Duel to the Death is absofuckinglutely awesome. After seeing it a few years ago, I've judged all movies by whether or not they have kite ninjas. None have been up to the challenge.

For more awesome ninja action, I wholeheartedly recommend the recently remastered Five Element Ninjas. Ninjas in tree suits, bitches.

I was gonna make a joke about Wood Man from Mega Man 2, but you would not believe how many breasts a google image search for that guy brings up.

More than pictures of Wood Man...

Awesome to hear. you will definitely enjoy it.

Alice in Wonderland - 3/5 - Saw this in IMAX 3d today. I can say I definitely enjoyed the trailer for Tron, there is enough bass to make your noise bleed & Olivia Wilde *drool*. I am now VERY excited to see Tron in December.

First the technical stuff, Alice in Wonderland is shot in 2d then digitally made into 3d by having artists trace the frame and yanking out those images. It is the first movie to be fully done like this and a lot of films you are going to see are being done the same way. Its cheaper then the Avatar route which was shot completely in 3d. The visuals are great throughout Alice and the 3d effects are done pretty well. I think they overused focal length blurring between layers of the field but that is a minor complaint from the technical side of things.

The movie is progressed by seeing what the Mad Hadder(Depp) is doing then allowing Alice to move along in the story. The problem is any story element that was supposed to be dramatic comes off with a lot less weight. You move along through the story without really caring what is happening. I dont blame them for overusing Johnny Depp, he probably costs a lot to hire and they wanted to get their moneys worth. Its too bad it made the story a lot less interesting.

Alice is a movie you can afford to miss. Even though the visuals are nice, there are other movies coming out with the same type of 3d enhancement that Alice had...but they are probably a lot more interesting.

Tooth Fairy today at the $2 theater. I usually like The Rock's movies (haven't seen all of them, though) but this one.... No. Just, no.

I've only watched 5 min. of Duel to the Death (no subtitles) and I'm pretty much sold on getting it even though it's only DVD.

Wow... you actually gave money to this movie... wow... I believe that's worse than him making the movie. Seriously.

Cloverfield- pretty good, nice idea for the way the movie was shot. Leaves it open for approximately 31015151 sequels.

Percy Jackson and The Olympians- Opinions on this movie seem to vary, all I can say is I wish the main character was a little older.

I read all of the Harry Potter books and have seen all of the movies so far. And am definitely going to see the last two when they come out. There were a lot of comparisons between this series and the Harry Potter series. I can see where they are coming from with the comparisons, boy hates life, boy finds powers, boy struggles with new life, boy becomes mature and defeats evil against all odds.

I don't feel the need to read the Percy Jackson books, because of the difference in age I guess the interest isn't there yet, but if the series continues on film (I hope it does, but so far it has not underperformed but not done incredibly well... 100 million well at the box office) I will see what the next installment has in store. I guess what I'm saying is that it's not really fair to compare the two, but so many people have put it that way that it's hard not to.

Anyway, I'm a sucker for anything related to mythology. This movie had a lot more star power than I anticipated as well. Definitely a movie worth seeing in my opinion.

Edit: I edited the above because it made no sense really, long day...
500 Days of Summer - I was about ready to slaughter a child until the ending. Overall, a good movie, but seriously, I just about hated it.

Going through my Netflix Instant Queue yesterday, I watched:

Boondock Saints - Awesome movie, now I need to see the second.
Assault on Precinct 13 (Original) - It was alright for being made in the 70's
48 Hrs. - Good, not Eddie Murphy's best 80's movie.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - I liked this, but man was it strange. Kate Winslet was adorable!

Ahhh yes Duel to the Death great flick!

Ever seen Five Venoms aka Five Deadly Venoms? Oh and Five Element Ninjas aka Chinese Super Ninjas is another awesome one!

Don't forget about Streetfighter and Return of the Streetfighter Sonny fucking Chiba!

9 - Man, I didn't like this at all. Which sucks, because I wanted to like it so much.

The Incredible Hulk - Ridiculously better than the Eric Bana version. Decent action, and it moved really fast, so it wasn't too bad.

Glad to see DUEL TO THE DEATH getting some props.
Check out KING BOXER and the originial ZU WARRIORS as well if you liked that one.
My fave old ninja flick is NINJA WARS, Sonny Chiba's in that.

THE BURNING PLAIN is a great Netflix instant pick. Don't know why this movie came and went with no fanfare. It was a nice little suprise.

Also caught RAISING VICTOR VARGAS NF streaming is a lighthearted KIDS, one of my all time faves. Have been enjoying Victor Rasuk in How To Make It in America.

I saw Five Venoms last year. It was alright. tbh it wasn't super memorable. Something like 2 of the 5 are working together to kill the others ? I do remember the martial arts being pretty good. I think it dragged on during the middle but the last battle was pretty awesome with each martial artist using their specific ability to overcome the badguys. Sorta remembering wanting more of them using their ability throughout the rest of the film.

It was a lazy Saturday.

Hard Eight - This was pretty good. Saying this is Paul Thomas Anderson's weakest movie is like trying to decide which of Michael Jordan's championship rings is the worst. They're all damn good, some just might be a tiny bit shinier than another.

Saw VI - Sucked. Not sure why I watched it.

The Hurt Locker - still incredible the 4th time through. My #2 for the decade. I still have to watch some movies that are highly acclaimed (Mulholland Dr., In The Mood For Love, etc etc) but its an incredible movie highly deserving of its best picture win.
From dusk till Dawn- A very fun movie.
If you want some campy (straight to video) fun watch the sequels, especially the third one. I haven't seen them in 10 years but I had a great time watching them.

The Slammin' Salmon - Another movie from the Broken Lizard guys. I found it quite funny, not on the level of Super Troopers or Beerfest but damn close.

Bruiser - 3/5 - Supposedly Romero's favorite film that he made. Not sure if its because he had fun making it or thinks its his best work. Overall the movie is decent. The story is interesting enough to keep you guessing what is happening. The best parts of Bruiser include Peter Stormare. He is seriously funny throughout the film. I guess I hoped for a bit more gore & violence for a film like this.

Oh... the ending has a death laser that can be rented for party events. The laser is 'twice as hot as the sun' which can blow a hole through someones head. Not sure how someone can rent that for a party but the result of blowing a hole in someones head is very underwhelming.

Zombieland- the interactions (especially early on) between Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg are a riot. Definitely in my top 3 favorite zombie movies. Most fun I've had watching a movie since I saw the Hangover when it first came out in theaters.

I didn't get to celebrate St. Patties day at a friends house and won't on the actual day so... I'm watching The Boondock Saints now.

I don't know what the best part is The cat being blown away or Willem Dafoe in bed with the gay asian.
lol

The Boondock Saints II - 8/10

Got a hold of this movie. I was skeptical of this being good so I had pretty low expectations. It was really touch and go in the beginning, but this movie turned out to be pretty damn awesome.
Julie Baez was a nice surprise too

Finally sat down and watched Pan's Labyrinth for the first time. I liked it a lot, though I was hoping for it to be a little more focused on the fantasy aspect. Still though, great movie, I love when filmmakers make badass looking creatures/sets without relying solely on CGI. It looks so much better that way, especially in beautiful high definition

Also, nothing against the movie, but I'm starting to realize that these pretentious-type films really don't have as much hidden meaning in them as they'd like us to think. Nothing specific, at least; it's more what you, the viewer, are able to take from it, though I suppose, as a filmmaker, being able to craft a story from which the viewer can extract their own message is an art in itself.

Zombieland was better than I expected and Emma Stone is in it, she is so beautiful and she has that low and deep passive aggressive voice. It just turns me on!:hot:

I think Zombieland surprised a lot of people. Emma Stone is a very attractive young woman, and I think she's got a lot of potential to have a great film career as long as she doesn't go down the same drug-laden, party all the time, public-drunkenness path that a lot of the young starlets are taking now. Here's to Zombieland 2!
Ghost Town
How was Ghost Town? One of my friends keeps telling me it's awesome, but I'm not so convinced, and no one else I know saw it.

I wouldn't say Ghost Town is awesome, but its a pretty good movie. Worth a rental if you like Ricky Gervais.

Beer Wars. Pretty interesting documentary about the beer industry and the challenges for craft brewers. It's in HD on Netflix Instant Watch.

The Collector - 2/5 - wow this was boring. Story began somewhat interesting but then randomly 'the collector' is also inside this house who set up a billion traps a la Saw so anyone who run through the house will get killed. I don't understand how or why he set up the traps since its not explained. Just family is tied up downstairs and then there is now a million traps inside the house for no apparent reason. Its a good movie for the first 10-20minutes but after that is gets bad....fast. Definitely don't bother w/ this one.

An American Werewolf In London - It was alright, it needed more werewolf and less weird dreams and hallucinations. The kills weren't very impressive either, but I guess they couldn't really show much of them because of the limitations of the werewolf prop.
How was Ghost Town? One of my friends keeps telling me it's awesome, but I'm not so convinced, and no one else I know saw it.
I was laughing pretty good during a few scenes. Kinnear is pretty awesome.

After reading all the posts about it, I got Duel To The Death from Netflix yesterday. fuck. YES. That movie was just an abundance of awesome.

I need to bump that one up...

Commando Squad - 3/5 - 80s Action film with a ex-Playmate...who doesn't get nude! What the crap. Going into Commando Squad I thought it was going to be ridiculous a la Hard Ticket to Hawaii. Instead Commando Squad is a pretty typically action movie. Cocaine is bad, send playmate to Mexico to rescue her partner and stop Sid Haig in 'Drug Camp'. There is some fun to be had w/ Morgan and his words of wisdom so I recommend watching it if you really can't find anything else. There isn't much of a Squad or Commando...since they are police officers so yeah. Not sure where that title came from :/

Big Trouble in Little China - 4/5 - I don't know how I lived 24 years without seeing this movie. Its simply amazing. The movie is fun, entertaining and the story is pretty decent. First Kim Cattrall was pretty hot in the 80s. I dont watch Sex in the City due to the lead looking like a horse but man she is awesome.

Green eyed asian girl gets kidnapped by chinese men who are able to do sorcery. Kurt Russell plays Jack Burton, a truck driver who goes after the asian girl. I didn't expect the film to be as funny as it was. The hand to hand combat is pretty good, its not gonna make your mind explode like your first viewing of Ong Bak but you will be entertained. There is some horror elements with decaying corpses and general weirdness of Lo Pan all thanks to John Carpenter. Definitely a must see for anyone who hasn't gotten around to it, but I am sure im one of the last people on Earth to see this film.
