Surprisingly the Last Movie You Saw Didn't Suck

Saw Transformers finally.

I know it's a fun movie to hate, but I was surprised at how spot on all the criticisms were.
So terrible, I didn't care at all about it.

Saw Brazil finally.

Really liked it, good atmosphere.
That's Gilliam for you I guess. Not surprising.
Whoa whoa whoa, Takeshi Miike made a western? fuck, that's instantly to the top of my Netflix list.
You'll like it :)

What other films of his do you recommend?

George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead is definitely the weakest film in the series, but it does manage to entertain while providing some genuinely funny meta-dramatic moments. The female lead's scenery chewing detracts from the film- not an easy feet considering the entire cast's tendency to deliver their lines in a very affected manner. The unnatural dialogue is also very distracting.

Audition is probably his best work, and is a genuinely scary thriller.
Ichi The Killer is awesome in it's pure, un-adulterated violence. A lot of wtf, but if you want some surreal brutality, there's no better.
Bird People In (of?) China was a very different picture, a very nice drama with a good plot and nice message. Vastly different from all his other stuff, but quite good.

Then there's stuff like Izo, which is weird super violence with weird philosophy. A movie about a samurai who time travels killing everyone, but not before they spout off all sorts of weirdness.

And there's the Dead or Alive series, which is pretty much Miike's version of a summer action movie/heroic bloodshed movie. Think Hard Boiled made random as fuck all.

Happiness of the Katakuri's is an absolutely hysterical musical about a bed and breakfast where all the customers keep randomly dying. Probably his nicest movie (that I've seen) that still has his trademark style.

Vistitor Q.....skip. It's pretty much a demented family acting out their favorite scenes in Salo.

I'm with you on the whole lot, but I actually liked Visitor Q. Have you seen Gozu?
Paths of Glory
I love this movie. One of Kubrick's most unfairly treated titles in that not enough people either know about it, or it just isn't talked about enough.

I've been meaning to see Gozu, but I haven't gotten around to it so far.

Just saw Jumper last night. I did have extremely low expectations going into the film, but overall its a fun movie. Its doesn't do anything great or push any emotions but gotta say I was entertained while watching it. 4.5/10

I really dug Ichi, and I've been meaning to check out Audition. All of the others you mention are going on my list.

Just about every movie I have seen recently sucks. Hollywood is such trash anymore. I stick with tv shows like burn notice and hells kitchen for entertainment. Every single movie I have got from netflix the last 3 months has sucked so I'm about to cancel.

If all the movies you get suck, I think that says more about your taste than the state of Hollywood.

Same here. I keep going to Hollywood Video, and it just sticks right out at me. I go "ooh! let's see," but then end up with something else instead. First it was Darjeeling Limited, then something else, etc. I still have to see Darjeeling Limited and Gozu:lol: It'll eventually creep in. Usually happens to me with most things.

What the fuck are you picking then? You must either have real shitty luck, or you just suck at choosing something good. Why not go back a bit in film history and watch some of the classics? You could always just go through the Criterion Collection, most of those are great films: be it for artistic value/merit, or the film's history, etc..

:lol::lol::lol::lol: Hell's Kitchen > Any Movie :lol::lol::lol::lol:
Anyone see Bee Movie? Is it any good?
I was/am a big Seinfeld fan and I have to say that it was just average. Not much for laughs or plot but I didn't feel pissed that I wasted 80 minutes of my life. If their is nothing else in you want to see at the video store get it but don't pick it up over Ratatouille or The Simpsons Movie.

The Lookout - Joeseph Gordon Lewitt will be the next Heath Ledger. Nice to see a modern thriller that actually focuses on making the characters compelling.

We ended up watching Bee Movie last night and I gotta say, it was average but I liked it much better than Ratatouille. There were some definite laughs and all of the bee-related jokes/puns they worked in was pretty impressive. I enjoyed it, nothing ground breaking, but enjoyable.

The last movies I saw that did not suck were

DEATH NOTE
monty phython and the holy grail
princess mononoke
Iron man
and nausicaa of the valley of wind

Rambo - quite possibly the most violent and gore filled movie I've seen. I'm having a hard time thinking of anything else at this point. The movie itself was highly enjoyable, if you're into body parts flying everywhere.

Sukiyaki Western Django

So fucking awesome. Miike actually managed to pull off a damn fine spaghetti western (even if it felt more like a Tarantino movie at times).

Glad you liked it. It was a little tough to understand the actors' English at times, so I put on the subtitles, which read like somebody threw the movie's script through an online translator, making the movie that more enjoyable.

I had to grab a torrent of the japanese version, so there were no english subtitles. I've heard though that the american version is going to have 25 minutes cut from it, so I'm considering ordering the Japanese Blu-Ray, as it's region A and in english already.

Rambo IV
Is that the real scene from the film? Amazing how fake that looks in slow'mo
That's not slo-mo. You might have to load the gif completely but it's definitely real time movie wise.

natural city was a great and oldboy was even more of a mind trip than children of men.
What 16 year-old girl says "Thundercats Ho!"?
Wow.

She says "Thundercats are GO".. you know, like from the cartoon show?!

On a dry spell for descent movies...

What happens in Vegas..... had queen Latifah, guaranteed to be bad.
Mad money..... again had Queen Latifah, suprise bad movie.
Jumper.... Was actually suprised by the first half of the movie and then it just went to poop.

Yeah, I know it's from the cartoon show. I always thought it was "Thundercats Ho!" not "Thundercats are go!" My point was that the dialogue reeked of trying to hard to be witty. In most scenes Juno ends up sounding like a jerk.

With lines like
" That ain't no Etch A Sketch. This is one doodle that can't be undid, Homeskillet."

and

your eggo is preggo mama bear."

that doesn't sound like they were trying to hard ::sarcasm::
