Be Kind, Rewind 4/5

This movie had alot of heart in it. Both Jack Black and Mos Def did a great job, but I think Mos Def really stole the show here. Overall it was a great feel good movie, one that had alot of laughs along the way.

The women brought over "Lars and the Real Girl" and forced me to watch it.

Shit ain't that bad. Gosling is pretty bank thus far in his movies, he killed it in "Fracture".

A mid 90's flick that i saw recently for the first time was Primal Fear. Pretty entertaining and with a nice, albeit predictable, plot twist. Edward Norton did a great job in his first major starring role as the stuttering "Aaron," for sure.
Saw three movies today one after the other.

Love Guru - Bland Comedy. Mike Meyers was great in it, but everyone else was meh.
Don't Mess With a Zohan - I actually liked this movie a lot. Very funny and they had Persians spot on... haha.
Happening- Not as terrible as I thought it was going to be. But it was bad. Cool idea, horribly executed.

Wow what a real crap-a-thon. Don't tell me you actually paid to see love guru! :rofl:Didn't you learn anything from that austin powers crap? Looks like that movie is on its way to bombing at the box office according to early tracking results - it opened at No. 4 on Fri. - so maybe people are finally catching on that everything involving mike myers sucks ass (wayne's world and snl excepted).

Funny Games, excellent movie. Not sure how many of you have seen/heard of it (was a recommendation from a friend), but its definitely worth a watch.

The more I think about it, the more and more I like it.

Get Smart: 8.5 out of 10: A funny movie. Steve Carell delivers the punchlines perfectly and it has the same mood of the show.

King-Fu Panda: 9 out of 10: A CGI movie with great animation and a great cast. Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, Lucy Lui, David Cross, Seth Rogen, and Jack Black help round out for some fantastic voice-over work to a well-written script. A movie the whole family can enjoy.

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou: 10 out of 10: A great movie. All I have to say.

Well, I paid for one (7 bucks) and saw three. Was going to see Kung Fu panda instead of Zohan, but when we went into the theater there were at least 40 kids (no joke. 3/4's of the audience were under 8) and 3-4 parents. No one else, we were the only young adults there. So we just left.

I've never seen that many little kids in one theater in my life.

it was a good movie. I enjoyed Tim roth in it a lot... but the ending ruined it for me.
not that both died but the rewind thing, to "screw" with the audience giving them the satisfaction of seeing one of the bad guys die and then taking it back. It felt really out of place and really took me out of the film.

The Signal is a solid flick, it got a lot of hype on the internet and it really didn't deserve all of it. Its a fun and bloody movie and you will be entertained. Just dont expect it to be the best horror movie of the year, clearly Zombie Strippers has that one in the bag.

I saw Michael Clayton on Thursday night and thought the movie was great. For all of you scared about this movie being about lawyers it is not. The movie couldn't be less about the law and lawyers.

Saw Kung Fu Panda, which I thought was very good. The story was somewhat similar to Ratatouille but not as good. Notwithstanding, it was a very solid dreamworks movie...probably better than Madagascar and Bee Movie.

If you think about it more It makes sense in a way
It's not meant to be a horror movie as such, but more like an critical view of people's reaction to the "Slasher/horror murder torture" film genre, at the beginning of the movie you were told specifically that you had every chance to stop this from happening (By turning off the movie and not watching) the main character of the movie constantly breaks the fourth wall, knowing full well he's playing a role and is using that knowledge to his advantage. He knows you want to see "What happens next" he knows how sympathetic you feel for the family and want to see them live and be victorious, however as soon as things turn around for them (What the Audience wants,,hope expects to happen) he rewinds his version of reality in his favor.

It's not really a horror movie anyway, you don't really see anyone get killed directly, you are shown just a subtle view of the aftermath, only the alternate death scene of one of the killers is shown as an extremely violent event.

During the film, peter is asked by Ann, "Why dont you just kill us", he gives a smile and replies " "You shouldn't forget the importance of entertainment." He's doing all this to please you, the audience. He is just a character in a film playing out his part, and the only reason that the family was killed off in the first place is because you simply refused to stop watching...You killed the family........you sick bastard.
The Incredible Hulk

Was quite surprised at how enjoyable it was. At least as good as Iron Man.
I felt similarly. I really enjoyed it. I thought it would be better than the crapfest that was the first, but not to the extent that I would like it as much as Iron Man. Glad that Marvel has taken the reigns over for their films.

The Deer Hunter - I was expecting so much more. Perhaps it was just a little too hyped to me. The performances are solid, and I actually enjoyed Meryl Streep in a film for once. I just for the story a little contrived, and the first act is a bit too long.

Shoot `Em Up delivered alot of insane gun fights and wtf moments...very enjoyable of course

Is Zohan worth going to the theaters for?

Yeah, I figured as much. I doubt there's anyone that pays for one ticket, then goes back outside after the movie's over and buys another ticket. Movie hopping's cool but what I really hate are the annoying jerks that didn't pay for a movie and come in and ruin the movie for the people that actually did pay. Last time, I paid to see the first screening of Speed Racer when it opened, and this fucking asshole came in after the movie started and sat in my row a few seats away from me. He kept fidgeting and moving around which caused my seat to shake a lot, and then he started to lay down using the seats as a couch and just kept on sitting up and laying down. And it was obvious he didn't pay to see the movie because he came in 30 min after it started and he kept leaving the theater and coming back. He just made a bad movie experience worse.

Kung Fu Panda is a solid animated film, entertaining for kids and adults alike, and worth paying to see. Seeing a lot of kids is to be expected at a movie like this, there was one little kid in my row when I saw it who just kept yelling and talking and kind of ruined it for me.

It was meh, I think I have it on VHS. After the second one came out, it became so annoying that I avoided the series like it was super-AIDS. Mike Myers needs to change his name so he doesn't get mistaken for someone who's actually cool -- the killer from the Halloween films.
Shoot `Em Up delivered alot of insane gun fights and wtf moments...very enjoyable of course

Is Zohan worth going to the theaters for?
If you typically enjoy Adam Sandler movies, then yes. Or just to ogle Emanuelle Chriqui. Otherwise, I'd say give it a rental when it comes out on dvd.

I still miss the older movies like Billy Madison and The Water Boy. Click was ok but had the potential to be so much better (although a supporting cast with the stunning Kate Beckinsale and the scheming Christopher Walken = win). It just seems that starting with the time of Little Nicky/Big Daddy, Sandler's movies have just generally gotten worse and worse imo.

Zohan is just full of low brow humor but has the innocent, would be endearing charm to it, as you can tell Sandler tries to desperately to win the audience over. The lightheartedness of the film definitely helps its cause.

Ang Lee's Hulk (second viewing)-
I really like that they attempted to flesh out the Hulk story. The backstory with Banner's dad came off as being a bit murky but compelling. I think that most people, however, were expecting to see the Hulk smash things for an hour and a half. I, for one, enjoyed the film and was pleasantly intrigued by the cinematography and editing. Bana played a very convincing Banner, Connelly was an apt Betty Ross, and Nolte... well let's just say he's well suited for the role.

Overall, this film attempted take the Hulk property to a new level. Ultimately, this film ends up being an acquired taste.

In Bruges was a pleasant surprise for me. I remember seeing the trailers back in the day and to be honest I wasn't sure what to expect. In Bruges is a comedy/crime/drama that had me almost in tears due to laughter. The first half of the film is loaded with great "dark humor" which makes the movie a must rent for anyone who enjoys that type of humor. Colin Farrell plays his role dead on. solid 8/10.

In Bruges is still my favorite film of 08.

Jumper - Excluding Sam Jackson, some very annoying characters and character actions. I did enjoy the special effects and the featurette about them. The action sequences were fun but the rest of the movie was cliche predictable annoying and so on. Even still I would much rather watch Jumper than a lot of other movies that have hit theaters in recent years.

Get Smart

One of the best suprises I've ever had in my life. Steve Carrel has redeemed himself for the shitfest that is Evan Almighty

Porco Rosso - 7/10 I really, really liked this film, until the end. It was/is probably my favorite Miyazaki film, but the ending is a total cop out and doesn't give what the audience wants/expects (in a horrible blunder type of a way). This is one instance where giving the audience the anticipated ending would have been better. The way it ends feels tacked on and has nearly nothing to do with the protagonist of the story. Still, it has such a great magical realm. Sort of felt like a great adaptation of Beauty and the Beast in a sense.

The Wizard of Gore- A complete waste of time. I guess this is what they mean by shoe string budget. This film was all over the place with pacing problems, an abysmal plot, and mediocre special effects. Don't get me wrong, I ain't no cinema snob; I like all kinds of cheesy, bad, and inconceivable movies. BUT this film is on the border of being unwatchable.

Night of the Comet - i liked it. Very fun 80s dystopian horror flick. Definitely a classic of the 80s to see, from the hair to the attitudes to the clothing. It's a great homage to those classic B-films of the 50s and 60s for sure.

In Bruges

Not what I expected at all. All the commercials made it out to be a dark comedy, instead it wasn't very funny and just kind of brutal. Still great though.

Just got back from seeing the hulk. Fell asleep twice. Not sure if thats what I thought of the film or I was just to tired. Wife said she liked it.
The Orphanage - 8/10

Well done Del toro, however my one Gripe...it ended almost the exact same way as Pan's Labyrinth.
Yeah, these ghost story movies have all started to blur together for me.
BTW Guillermo Del Toro did not write nor produce The Orphanage. I believe he was one of the producers, however. The trailers are intentionally misleading.

I'm assuming the remake of Wizard of Gore?

In Bruges was the last movie for me. I thought it was fucking funny as hell, it did have pacing problems in the first half but it ended strong.
