Surprisingly the Last Movie You Saw Didn't Suck
BTW Guillermo Del Toro did not write nor produce The Orphanage. I believe he was one of the producers, however. The trailers are intentionally misleading.
Yeah, he's one of 7 producers on this movie. It's actually directed by J.A. Bayona.
Solaris- A pretty good sci-fi film that flew under my radar.
Not bad, but see the original.

In Bruges - Pretty good movie. Used fuck way too many times IMO, got on my nerves pretty quick. Never the less, still a good movie.

Get Smart - Wow, I actually came out of this one liking it. It looked like utter crap from the previews, but it's actually good. They did a really great job adapting this for a film. I enjoyed all the characters, and the bit of social commentary on our current times was a bit unexpected for the movie. Steve Carrell (sp) finally did a good movie after Evan Almighty and that terrible piece of crap, Dan in Real Life :puke:

Wall-E - Snuck into this one after Get Smart with the throngs of people and kids that went to see it. Absolute wonderful film! 10/10. Awesome, through and through. Pixar really is what Disney used to be.

Wall-e 9.5/10, one of the best Pixar movies and probably the best I've seen this year.

Be Kind Rewind - 8/10, better than I expected as I can only take so much Jack Black, slow to start but when it gets to the meat of the movie very funny stuff.

Semi-Pro - Sucked. I couldn't even finish it, turned it off with 15 minutes left which is really bad for a 90 minute movie.

Hulk and Kung-fu panda. Went into both expecting crap but came out of the theater very happy. kung-fu panda was funny for a family movie, and hulk was just awesome.
Southland Tales- wtf? I liked it?
I'm a pimp....and pimps dont kill themselves.

The End.

Kung Fu Panda - 8/10 A friend hooked me up to see it on an Imax, and the movie kicks much ass! Loved it! Great, great animated flick. This is what Imax was built for. It looks fucking incredible in Imax. Absolutely beautiful, like a walking-talking piece of art. It's just so fluid and goes on the screen like if they made Okami the movie. Gorgeous, and the sound was fantastic. If you can, you've gotta see this film on an Imax. It's totally worth it, and for once, truly enhances the product. Speed Racer and I am Legend on Imax just can't compare. It's probably Dreamworks' best animated flick, with Ice Age (1 & 2) in second, even better than the mediocre Shrek (so overrated), and on par with Pixar now. Definitely better than Shark Tale and that average, but yet still good, Madagascar. It's an even better flick if you've seen any older martial arts films, or pretty much anything from the middle of Jackie Chan's career. I was surprised when I found out he was actually the voice of the monkey, but then again, he doesn't have many lines in it. Also, the voice acting is spot on.

Also, "Skadoosh" is one of the best lines I've heard in a film in awhile. It's just fun saying. And this was another great line, "Quit...dont quit...noodle...dont noodle."
Watched the beginning of Paprika. Looks to be pretty good, but I'll report back when I watch it all :p.
I dug it. But then again, I love Satoshi Kon. If you wind up liking Paprika, give Millennium Actress a chance. That film is one of my all-time favorites.

Anyhow...

Ratatouille is deceivingly better than I initially gave it credit. There are visual gags for the kids, and a rather smart script for the adults. Now, I don't think it's anywhere near the echelon of The Lion King, but it's a solid movie.

Batman: Gotham Knight

I was at the premiere last night at the con. Was going to pick it up because of Drake scored it and he's a really cool guy but I'm also going to definitely pick this up as its really good. Its six short films that combine to make up the film. Two of them are a bit lackluster but the whole of the film is great: great writing, awesome designs and though Batman had already gone manga/anime before, it felt very fresh. Though I had to take off in the middle of the Q&A, they really sold it. Also fun to finally meet up with Christopher Drake (fellow DTF member) and have him sign my Hellboy cartoons. A whole lot of fun chatting with him.

Burst City

A film that I've always wanted to see. Its essentially a bigger budget version of Ishii's Crazy Thunder Road and it doesn't disappoint. Its pretty much a Japanese take on Rock 'n' Roll Highschool meets Road Warrior. fucking crazy film and Tom Mes is right, its a great time capsule on the Japanese punk movement of the early 80's.

Which con did it premiere at?

Been watching some good movies so far this summer, namely: Silence of the Lambs, Big Lebowski, The Usual Suspects, Shawshank Redemption, Boondock Saints.

Vacancy- I thought I was going to hate this film, but it was not half bad. I would have enjoyed and actually liked the film a whole lot more if they had cast unknown/lesser known actors. This kind of casting takes away from this type of film.

Watched "In Bruges" last night and surprisingly IMO it did not entirelly blow chunks, I guess i liked it.

Bought and watched "The Hammer" starring Adam Carolla last night.

Pretty good. Better than most of then most of the crap comedies they make these days. I am looking at you, Mike Myers.
Chicago Comic Con aka The Con That Wizard fucked Up
Oh, right:lol:. I'm hoping to go to comic-con (San Diego - the grandaddy of them all) this year, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to get into Saturday, or how I'll do it, or maybe i'll just go to TJ

i know this is pretty gay, but "Definitely, Maybe" was actually decent. my wife popped it in from netflix and it was pretty funny and not the chick flick i expected. it's along the lines of "how to lose a guy in 10 days" and was from a guy's perspective and the girl from Little Miss Sunshine was funny as usual. good date movie...:D
The Killing
Hulk (Ang Lee version)

And now I see why the missus was apprehensive about seeing the new Hulk movie.
You've never seen it before now (Hulk Ang "crap" Lee version)?

Oh, and Fool's Gold. Don't ask why, but we all need to compromise our wishes sometimes. Let's just say we both thought it sucked:lol:

I avoided it, but after seeing the new one, I borrowed it from a friend for comparison sake.

Otis (2008)
The cover to this Tony Krantz directed film about the kidnapping of a young woman (Ashley Johnson) deems the film "Juno for the horror set!" Well, if you thought Juno was a steaming pile of pretentiousness, then yes, this is the Juno of horror movies. A twist near the film's climax will leave you breathless...in the sense that you won't be able to breathe since you'll be busy laughing at this ill-written and poorly developed sham of a film.

WallE - one of Pixar's best by far. Loved the cinematography and lack of dialogue throughout. A very nice reference to 2001 towards the end as well.
