Gran Torino - eastwood is still the man!

Valkyrie - surprisingly it was pretty good

Post there if you'd like a Movie/blu ray/media sub forum, rather than this thread and the occasional movie specific thread.
Yes, please, please do. I subform really needs to finally happen. I know that just from this thread /that I follow certain specific users and their movie taste. I'm sure others do as well.

Anyway, I still have a whole treasure trove of films to post, but just getting to it since I've seen so many due to the holiday break and free redbox/on demand/backlog (one good thing/bright side of the current economy is I get through my backlog better):D

Eastern Promises
12 Monkeys

Watched both with a buddy last night, not my first time seeing them, but they were great as always.

Post in that feedback thread I listed too. Hopefully if more peple express their desire for it there Cheapy will give it more consideration.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

A beautiful film. It will leave you feeling pretty melancholy, however. I was in kind of a post-holiday funk going in, and the bittersweet nature of the film only exacerbated that. But it really does take a throwaway concept by F. Scott Fitzgerald and flesh it out into a rich, multilayered story. And the makeup and CG effects are unbelievable, precisely because they are so subtle. The way they make Cate Blanchett look like a teenager early in the film and "youthen" Brad Pitt late in the film is pretty amazing.
I' usually don't watch Woody Allen movies, last one I tried was Scoop and I turned that off after 35 minutes.
You're watching the wrong Woody Allen movies. Scoop and ESILY are awful and very poor representations of his oeuvre (though, in fairness, the whole premise of the latter was a musical cast with people who could not sing or dance). See Manhattan, Hannah and Her Sisters, or Crimes & Misdemeanors and then get back to me. For better examples among his more recent works, try Match Point or Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

I think I did already.

I'm glad you didn't say Annie Hall, his most overrated work. Manhatten is amazing though.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall - Pretty good, and I freaking love Kristen Bell.
Burn After Reading - Absolutely Loved It. The Coen Brothers are quickly becoming my favourite Director(s)
Horton Hears A Who!- It was really good!

Saving Private Ryan.

I will never get tired of that movie. It's still just as awesome every time I watch it. That part at the end, though, where Mellish slowly gets stabbed...*shudder* That always gets to me...
Wanted- Worst movie of '08
Did you only see 3 movies this year? Wanted was pretty entertaining. Better than piece of shit Twilight and Indiana Jones and a bunch of others I saw.

Wanted did suck, though.
Well, let's rephrase my previous statement as "the worst film I saw in 2008," because I refuse to see any of those " ______ Movie" crap fests.

Sorry, even though George Lucas crapped on the Indy franchise, Indy 4 was way better that Wanted. I'd rather watch Shia LeBuf swing across a computer generated forrest with a bunch of CG monkeys than hear that annoying, whiney, and predictable protagonist utter one line of his insipid narration.

I'm convinced that
Angelina Jolie's character committed suicide in order to avoid being dragged into a sequel.

Bangkok Dangerous. Nicolas Cage has been degraded to making fucking terrible movies, I almost feel sorry for him.

Watched this movie last night, and wanted to cry because I realized at the end, there really wasn't an ending.

I watched the Mummy: The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and, gasp, enjoyed it. Those poor yetis. :whistle2:( I'm in a dumb-action-flick sort-of-mood. A couple days ago, I watched Death Race, and, days before that, Transporter 3.

Let the Right One In - great story.

definitely in my top 3 best horror films that i saw in 2008. REC and Inside being 1&2.
JCVD.

Jean-Claude Van Damme's best movie EVER. It's loaded with action, comedy and good acting.
Wouldn't go as far as best movie ever but ya, it was a great film.

Saw my first Woody Allen movie last night Vicki Christina Barcelona. Great flick. Especially the dialogue. Thanks for the suggestion. I will be checking out his other works over the weekend.

Also watched Bottle Shock. The story of how American beat French wine in a blind test. Nice movie though it had Bill Pullman in it and after I saw him in Zero Effect (great film) everytime I see him I just think of that neurotic char.

After hearing everyone talk about Let the Right One In like it was the second coming of sliced bread, I was kinda disappointed. It just didn't have any real tension to it, dramatic, suspenseful, or otherwise. I definitely wouldn't classify it as a horror movie. Just having a vampire isn't enough.

In my own watchings, I took in Shaolin Drunken Monk last night. Oddly, there was nothing Shaolin-related about it. Pretty low quality movie, but Gordon Liu does some slick moves.
I'll know in a couple of days, and post here. It should be, I think they just messed up the encoding. No DVD could look that bad. None of the streaming stuff I've watched has been that bad. Some have been a bit blurry, but not this blurry, blocky mess.
Finally watched the DVD of Gonzo, it looked great, so just a problem with the encoding on the instant watch one.

Great flick.

Che: Part 1.. i'm confused by this movie.. I liked it but on the other hand there was so much lack of information in the movie. I don't know much about Che and really don't know much about him after watching this movie. I wish they would have picked up on his life around where "Motorcycle Diaries" ends. I have no idea how he became a "revolutionary" or how he ended up in Mexico, where the movie starts. Also, it seems that he had asthma but it only affected him horribly for the first 15 minutes and than it never affects him again. As a biopic this film fails. With such a rich history that was the Cuban revolution it seems abit ridiculous that there is no information on whats going on. All you see is Che marching through the jungle. I'll watch part 2 which I assume comes out next year because even if the story was destroyed its still good to see Benicio Del Toro.

Che Part 2 comes out on the 9th. It is a single movie, they just broke it up into 2 movies since it was near 6.5 hours.

JCVD was the shit. I also saw Valkyrie recently and enjoyed it a lot.

He said it was Jean Claude's best film ever... which given his filmography, is not much of a stretch... not saying his films arent mindless fun as I probably have about 7-8 of his on dvd...

My last film was Shattered Glass (thanks to Big Lots assortment of $2 dvds)... really good film
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

Beautiful.
My favorite movie, EVER.

Watched Wall-E tonight, still just as good as the first time. Also, I forgot how damn funny the short before the main film was.

I love the short between the Rabbit and the Magician. It would merit me buying the film on that short alone. I'll eventually pick up the movie, but I'm first looking for a good copy of The Dark Knight 2-disc Bluray/DVD that hasn't been mangled by holiday shoppers and Hellboy 2.

I just watched Night of the Creeps off of Fearnet On Demand. Bah, I wish they would fucking release this one on DVD already. I loved this movie. It such a good spoof/parody/real horror movie from the 80s. It has a real soul and a great plot/writing to it. Very fun movie. I thoroughly recommend you watch it if you get Fearnet on demand before they switch it up. It's incredibly similar to Slither, for those that haven't heard of Night of the Creeps and are looking to see what it might be similar to something recent; incredibly similar.
