Surprisingly the Last Movie You Saw Didn't Suck

I am Omega.
same as I am Legend, Omege Man, etc.
zombies werent bad, the story I knew, I was entertained.
Plus I found out the main character is the same dude from Iron Chef. :)

Transformers - I'm a little late to the party on that one, but watched it on bru-ray last night. Great picture/sound. Not bad for what it was. Kind of piques my interest in seeing the new one.

Birds of America (2008)

An offbeat family dramedy, that was very funny in a tragic way. It's stars Matthew Perry, Ben Foster, and Ginnifer Goodwin as three unique siblings. Perry is the older, responsible one, Foster is the goofy one, and Goodwin is the young, slutty one. It doesn't grab you right away, but it gets interesting, and funnier, as it moves along. Lauren Graham also stars as Perry's wife, and Hilary Swank has a small role as the annoying bitch neighbor next door.

New in Town (2009)

Yeah...I'm going to use the excuse that my wife wanted to watch this. It, VERY surprisingly, wasn't that terrible. Overall, it was pretty average, but I liked that it didn't have a whole bunch of romantic comedy cliches. Renée Zellweger was decent, in her usual cute kind of way, but J.K. Simmons was the stand out entertaining character, as he always is.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009)

Amusing enough sequel. Not much to praise or criticise really, it's just exactly what you would expect. If you liked the first one, and really like Ben Stiller, you should like this. Best thing about the film: Hank Azaria, fucking hilarious in every scene.

Terminator Salvation (2009)

Okay, this was fucking awesome. Christian Bale was PERFECT as John Connor, moving on from the emoness of Edward Furlong in Terminator 2 or Thomas Dekker in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Bale is pure badass as Connor. As a huge Terminator fanchise fan, I've probably seen the first two films a billion times each, but the third movie...maybe just 5 times. Well, this film was a HUGE improvement over the third film (not that hard, really), and I can't wait to rewatch it as much as the first two films, especially McG's Director's Cut, that I've heard about. Besides Bale, Sam Worthington was great as "Marcus Wright", a very interesting character, and Anton Yelchin, who I've liked in comedic roles before, was impressive as a teenage Kyle Reese. It was a great continuation of the series, and I look forward to any future sequels.

i guess it would be the new Star Trek movie. There are many areas were they could've messed up but made a great movie. If you want to make a kick @## movie get JJ Abrams.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop. I fucking hate Kevin James, and I usually hate the low brow humor comedies.. but this movie was alright. The girlfriend wanted to watch it for movie night, and the fact that it got a couple laughs out of me makes me feel as if it wasn't a complete waste of time.

Obsessed (2009)

Ugh, this was pretty useless. Replace Beyoncé Knowles and Ali Larter with unknown actresses, and this would be straight-to-DVD crap. Beyoncé Knowles is damn fine, but this was probably her worst acting performance of her limited acting career. Idris Elba as the male lead made the best with what he had to work with, and unlike Knowles and Larter, I see him moving onto bigger and better things, (The Office fans will remember him from this past season, as "Charles Miner", Michaels Scott's replacement). Jerry O'Connell has a small part, as the comic relief best friend, that seemed really out of place.

Taken was pretty good. That "phone call" from the trailers is about the only hokey part. Like it would fit better in the John Cena movie from the trailers before Taken.

Terminator Salvation - Even with the huge plot holes *spoiler alert* they have Kyle Rese captured and instead of terminating him and ending John Connor they use him as bait? Made no sense, and even further more it made no sense that the machines knew of Kyle Rese since the Arnold T800 in 1984 is the only one that knew of Kyle Rese, and futhermore the machines should not have known about John Connor winning the war at that point in the future. (unless a terminator that went in to the past alerted past skynet of the future to come) With all that said I loved the movie, especially the CGI Arnold T800, wow they perfectly replicated 1984 Arnold.. Awesome!!

Also wanted to give a HUGE F-YOU to FOX for cancelling probably one of the best TV shows of all time, Terminator - Sarah Connor Chronicles, how many blunders can this craptastic network make before they get their S together. Arghhh

The International (2009)

This was a fantastic thriller. I read some critics comparing it to the Matt Damon Bourne series, but not as good. I never liked the Bourne series, and thought this film was MUCH better than those movies. Clive Owen is like Christian Bale for me, as he's pretty much perfect in the majority of his roles, and I always enjoy his style and delivery.

A ton I haven't put up:

Munich (2005)- Fantastic (10/10)
The Best Years Of Our Lives (1946)-(10/10)
Shane(1953)- (9/10)
Silence Of The Lambs (1991)- (10/10)
King Kong (1933)- (10/10)
The Grapes Of Wrath (1940) - (10/10)
Mr. Smith Goes To Washington (1939)- (10/10)
It Happened One Night (1934) - (10/10)
Sophie's Choice (1982)- (10/10)

I just watched Los Cronocrímenes (Timecrimes). I loved it. The time travel stuff was done really well; plus, the movie had my interest the whole time since it was really good with the suspense.

Ikiru - fucking incredible. One of the best films i've ever seen. Kurosawa sure knew how to make movies. His shot selection and editing is on the level of being surgical for how attentive to the most minute details he was. Great movie, and definitely holds up. I almost want to say that this film is better than Seven Samurai.

Bob le flambeur - Very good film. Clearly a protypical film for what would become the nouvea (sp; I wish I could spell) vague. Can't believe I waited until now to see it. It's enjoyable, but nowhere near as good as something like 400 Blows, Band of Outsiders, Jules and Jim, etc.

among others....will post the rest later.
Where do some of you find the obscure films you watch? Oh and Pointbreak Pwns.
Library is a tremendously awesome place to find films, especially Criterions (if you feel like trying before you buy them - or at least that's what I do), Netflix, local video stores (not BB, Hollywood Video or any other corporate place), online (I'll let you infer what that means since it's generally a no-no to speak of it on CAG), Hulu, TCM, etc.

I have to agree. I really enjoyed the action in this though because it wasn't too over the top.

Sex Drive if you like teen agnst movies is hilarious. If you like teen comedy that is over the top then you definately need to see the unrated version which is really silly at times but you get use to it.

Fanboys - I have been wanting to see this since I saw the trailer when Clerks 2 was in the theaters. It starts out very, very slow but it has some super funny parts.

But how do you find the obscure ones and know that they will be decent? Do you just browse a lot at those locations or something else?

Drag me to Hell - 3/5 - if it didn't have some bad cg
cat at the end
or just silly cg moments
the 'napkin fight'
this could have been a 4/5. Genuinely a funny movie, definitely dont come in and expect a very grounded, gritty horror film. I found myself laughing quiet a bit during the film. You will get a lot of jumpscares(what plagues pg13 films), no real gore and a lot of humor. Classic Raimi? No...but it does have a lot of good Raimi moments which will get you to chuckle. Drag me to Hell is definitely a good way to waste 100minutes this summer.

Most definitely, since it was a bad movie that could have easily been a much, much better flick.

Star Trek-- very good, but maybe not quite up to the 95% rotten tomatoes level hype
The Reader--also very good
Taken--and enjoyable action flick, better than I expected but nothing spectacular.
