Syphon Filter (PS2) $10 + $20 GV at EBGames

Mine has taken forever, still don't have it yet.
Ordered 4/19/05.
Shipped 4/19 and 4/20 [two items].
Mailed in packing list and UPC 5/06.
Called them about 10 days, they said they would send the issue to 'research' it.
Called in today, they said they sent it to research, but haven't heard back [sad]. Today he said he would send the problem to the 'manager' of the rebates section, and get my code emailed either today or tomorrow.
We'll see.

To refresh: does the 20$ voucher stack with SAVER, EDGE, and/or CAG15/CAG16 [assuming of course I buy preowned]? And does it matter what order the codes are entered in? I would assume do the voucher last, but am open to correction.

Thanks for bumping this. I sent my rebate in back in April and I still hadn't received my gift voucher. I just gave them a call and they told me they had no record of the rebate. The guy on the phone was very nice though and re-entered all my information and said it should be about 3 weeks for me to receive the gift voucher. Better late than never, I suppose.

It stacks with SAVER, not sure about the other ones. I entered SAVER first to be safe just in case it wouldn't work after I entered the $20 code.

I had the same problem. After waiting 6month i called.
They said they never received it. So I faxed them the receipt and said it would only take about 1-2weeks.

So today i called again after 2weeks, they said they don't have any record of it!!
WTF!!! Then, the lady entered the information again and said to take another 4weeks the most!..

$hit.. Im never doing Rebates with EBgames again..

Well, not just EBgames, but most places that do rebates rely on most people not keeping track with what they're owed via rebate. I've been lucky, but lots of people report not getting rebates, from lots of different places.
If you use a lot of them, keep a log, or try a rebate tracking website to make it easier.

Okay, this is getting old.

After two phone calls and three months, I finally got an email.
"Thank you for participating in our rebate offer. We hope that you are enjoying your software.
Enclosed in this email you will find your coupon code for $10. This may be used towards a purchase on the EBgames.com website. Your coupon code is ABC123"

Um, no. Says right there, on my form, 20.00. Not 10.00. 20.00. Time for another phone call.

The same thing just happened to me. I got a $10 code instead of a $20 code. I think they will be a getting a phone call from me as well.

Edited to add: So I called them, and the guy took my information and said I should hear from the rebate department via email. That doesn't sound too promising...

i just received a $10 code as well(instead of $20), they even sent it to me twice.
This is retarded I wait all this time for them to finally send the damn thing and they try to screw me and change the amount of the rebate.

...GOING TO GIVE THEM A CALL!!!!!

See i only got $10 as well.

They said they could only compensate for the price that you paid for.
That $20 rebate was for the game that was for $20.

Since i bought the game which was on sale for $10.
They can only offer $10 for rebate..

Sounds like Bull$hit.. but you can't argue..

On the phone now...
he says that since the game was only 9.99, that's the most they could do the rebate for.
I'm saying, Nowhere does it say that, I bought the game for the listed price.

Now being transferred to the supervisor. Then I'm going to the Better Business Bureau.

The rebate form says 20.00. Not "20.00 unless you paid less for the game."
It's not my fault they price a game at less than their rebate. And it would be one thing if their rebate were a *cash* rebate, not a damn "gift voucher".

*hangs up phone*
Bullshit.
Spoke to Ross, Noah's supervisor. "You can't expect us to pay you for buying a game." No, I can expect you to fulfill your end of the deal, i fulfiilled mine. It's not my fault you lowered the price of the game, and I have gotten rebates that have exceeded my cost of the item before.

BBB here I come.

just got off the phone with EBgames. They claim that I purchased syphon filter at the "sale price" of $9.99 therefore they only have to give me a $10 rebate. I argued some with the guy but he just kept repeating that I got the game on sale, it was supposed to be $19.99 therefore they can only give me $10 if they want to. I even mentioned that the rebate said nothing of this, and that the $9.99 price point was not part of any sale, he wouldn't budge.

This just stinks of the whole issue with the $20 paper mario rebate. Even worse is the fact that they already gave some people $20 rebates for this game(purchased at $10) so this is them lying and trying to cut their losses.

It's unfortunate that EB is willing to partake in such dishonest business practices, I've enjoyed buying from them online for the most part.
So I guess the lesson here is buyer beware when it comes to EB rebates.

Also got the $10 rebate as well yesterday and it sounds like thats all im going to get from ebgames. There goes another customer.

Got the $10.

On the one hand, they're completely changing the conditions of the rebate post-sale.

OTOH, "Sweet my rebate went through!"
Got the $10.

I know. I'm pieved they didn't give a $20 gift voucher (which was the only reason I bought this), but now I really want to use the rebate on Metroid Prime 2.

Yeah, they really shouldn't be able to change to conditions of the rebate after the fact. I probably wouldn't have bought this if I knew I was only going to get $10 back. Is there anything we can really do though?

I'm submitting a complaint to the Better Business Bureau.

I even mentioned the BBB when speaking to "Noah." Apparently 10 bucks is worth more than a pissed off ex-customer. I'm the service industry, and we give away millions of dollars of service annually, in the interest of customer loyalty.
I even rephrased the issue, to get it on tape:
"So what you're saying is, I bought something at the price you asked, I fulfilled my part of the transaction, and you're not fulfilling yours, as plainly stated on the rebate form itself?" "Well, yes."
If they wanted to 'give away' the game, quite simple: "Your purchase price refunded, up to X.XX." You see these all the time, it doesn't take a genius to do it. They f***ed up, and didn't want to fix it. I wouldn't be irked it the multiple code thing gets cancelled, but I'm pissed at this.

Just got my rebate code for shypon filter. Got 10 doller code only and called them and guy said because the game went down in pirce they had to adjust rebate, this happen to anyone else?

I just called too and got Noah, he seemed at a loss for what to say about the situation but basically said that they couldn't give away more than the cost of the game. When I asked why they couldn't update the rebate to reflect the price change of the game, he said they were "having problems updating the site" at that time. Yeah ok buddy. It's not like they are giving out cash, a gift voucher for $20 used on used games that they probably paid less than $10 for does not hurt them, I don't see why they just can't give out the rebates as promised by the rebate form rather than risk losing customers.

I can't believe they are giving out $10 gift vouchers now. It would be bad enough if they did that for everyone but since most of us got the $20 gift vouchers, it isn't right to give some people the full $20 and others just $10.

Just checked my email and I also got the $10 rebate, twice with the same code! Guess that's their retarded way of saying here's $20!

I wouldn't have bought it either if I knew they would just give back a voucher to cover the cost. It better be stackable or it's a complete waste. If I had known earlier I would've completely taken advantage of their glitch.

Did you pay $20 for one of the games, or just get lucky and get it earlier when they were giving out more? It sucks, but I was only going to get a couple cheap games with the voucher, now I'm just getting a few less. At least it's still stackable with all codes. It is kind of funny in a way that they sent two emails with the exact same ten dollar code.

I paid $10 for Syphon Filter and did get the $20 voucher. I'm just saying it's not right for everyone else, especially since they have done this in the past where they had Max Payne 2 for $9.99 with a $20 voucher and they didn't pull this nonsense about $20 for some and $10 for others.

I received 2 emails as well but the coupon codes are exactly the same... maybe they sent 2 just to make sure we got at least one email.

Can't hurt to call, at least let them know we're not happy.
Seems like they're pennywise and poundfoolish; getting a lot of people, who are admitted cheapasses, but still spend a lot, pissed off over 10 bucks each. And it's not even 10 bucks cash, it's a 10$ coupon code that has to be used at their store.
Anyway, I submitted a complaint to the BBB. All I want is what is owed me. I paid the price they asked, I sent in the documentation they wanted, now hold up your end of the deal.

Here's the email I got about my inquiry:

-------
Thank you for contacting EBgames.com.

Since the game was purchased at a discounted/sale price, it cannot be
used towards a rebate. In order to be eligible for our rebate for
$20.00, you would need to have purchased it at $19.99.

This goes under "cannot be combined with other offers" that is located
in the fine print of the rebate form.

Since, you purchased the game at $9.99. We went ahead and honored you a
$10 voucher.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to respond to this
email. You can also give us a call at 877-432-9675, 7 days a week from
8 am to Midnight Eastern Standard Time.
-------

So I emailed him back asking how I could tell if the item was at "discounted/sale" price (like if the currently listed online $9.99 price is a sale or discount) . I'll post when I get that response.

I will be submitting my complaint as well dt since I just got $10 as well.

You can't judy. What a copout answer. EB just doesn't want to shell it out and it's like dt said, it's not even real cash, it's an EBGames gift voucher so in the scheme of things it's a few $'s less.

yea that does suck

thats not right

I got my $20 voucher in the mail which was strange since I thought I was getting a $20 voucher to use on line. Anyway, what I did was complain I haven't recieved my voucher and they took care of it right away.

here's my email back to CS [I got the same email Judyx3 got]

How was I supposed to know it was a "sale price"? I bought the game at the price listed on the website.
The rebate was listed at 20.00. If the rebate was meant to make the game "free", it should have said "Your purchase price refunded, up to XX.XX" which is how I have seen many rebates phrased.
I purchased an item eligible for a rebate, at the price asked. It was not identified as "sale" or "discount" or anything. I fulfilled my obligation, all I ask is that EB fulfill theirs, as stated on the rebate form, rather than changing the terms without notifying me until after the fact, which I believe can be termed "fraud" or "misrepresentation".
This experience is greatly affecting my opinion of EBGames and EBGames.com, and the resolution thereof will greatly affect my future business with EBgames/EBgames.com
Your assistance in a satisfactory resolution would be greatly appreciated.

and technically 20 > 19.99, so using this "logic" no one should have gotten a 20 rebate.

Nope.

So, anyone who paid 10, and got 20, want to share your order number so I can call them on it?

Feel free to call Ross and report this issue to the BBB.

*feels no guilt for screwing EB on the multicode thing, and wishes he had money to have bought more*
fuck EB. Never would have thought ten bucks is this important to them.

I'm not sure if it was mentioned in this thread (I saw it somewhere, but not sure where), but what about a credit card chargeback? You most likely bought the game for the sole intention of getting the $20 gift voucher, right? EB has not fufilled their end of the deal and not delivered the product (both game and voucher) as stated. I don't know if it will work but it's worth a try since they seem to refuse to listen to reason.

Sent you a PM with my order # on it so you can call them on it. I'm royally pissed about this. I would expect better from EB.

Man, I'm gonna call but it's like a double edged sword. One hand it's still a good deal since I used a giftcard to purchase the game in the first place. But on the other hand...they are not honoring their own rebate offer.

I'm really shocked they are doing this to you guys. I got my $20 voucher long ago and even messed up the order so I had to call and walk them through my account/orders to get a new voucher code and they never said anything. I returned the game even on the 29th day(I figured 30 day return policy) because I had heard nothing from EB and didn't think it'd take that long. I still got it. I tried to email them but never heard back(or maybe my spam block got it and I didn't catch it) so I dunno. Good luck guys.

Okay, so this is what I wrote to them...
Where on the rebate did it state that the item had to be $19.99, and
where on the website did it say the game was on sale or discounted?
The only offer listed on the page was the rebate. I would like to know
how I can tell an item is on sale on EBgames.com so I can tell when I
browse the website. The game is still on the website for $9.99, and I
don't see any alerts on the game's page saying it is discounted or on
sale.
Thanks,
Judy

And this is how they responded.
Thank you for contacting EBgames.com.

Unfortunately, there is no exceptions to this offer. You had to purchase
the game at the original price of $19.99 to receive a $20 voucher. We do
not give customers a free game and give them $10 for purchasing the
product.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to respond to this
email. You can also give us a call at 877-432-9675, 7 days a week from
8 am to Midnight Eastern Standard Time.
Now that was a total copout. I obviously responded to that one. I've always loved EB's customer service... in store, on the phone... This is unfortunately changing my opinion.

So when I responded, this was what I said.
My question is still the same though. How was I supposed to know the
game was on sale or discounted and therefore didn't qualify? And how
was I supposed to know the game had to be purchased for $19.99? I'm
asking because I want to know for future reference.

Also, I'm not getting a free game unless you're giving me cash back.
The rebate was for a coupon code (it wasn't even a gift card/store
credit since you can't combine it with other deals). I would much
rather have $10 than a $10 off coupon.

And I'm well aware that exceptions were made in this offer, as others
have gotten their $20 coupon for the exact same purchase. I've done
similar rebates at EBgames.com with no problem, including coupon
rebates where the coupon was equal or more to the price of the game
(please check my order history).

If you could clarify your response, it would be greatly appreciated.

Their final response:

Thank you for contacting EBgames.com.

The game was listed on our hot deals page at the time. Hot deals
indicate a sale/discounted offer on those particular items. As stated
previously, we cannot change this offer or make any exceptions.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to respond to this
email. You can also give us a call at 877-432-9675, 7 days a week from
8 am to Midnight Eastern Standard Time.
I'm not really sure what to do now, but I find all this really lame :(
How many CAGs got "served" on this rebate thing?
Maybe I can have better luck than you guys.
I got served.

So was this game in the "Hot Deals" area. I seem to remember being surprised that it was NOT in that section... especially with it's price fluctuation. I could be remembering wrong but I'm fairly certain they are incorrect.

They still haven't adressed the fact that they have been giving out the $20 rebates for this game and others(that are more than the price of the game) but all of a sudden they are cutting people off. This is obviously a cost cuuting thing on their end.. them trying to find ways to wring out a few extra bucks here and there.

..still dishonest and still pissing me off.

A supervisor just told me if I can find someone who already got the $20 rebate from purchasing it for $10, he'd probably be willing to give me the other $10 back. Any volunteers?

Edited to add:
I don't even care about getting the other $10 (I've used the voucher already), I'm just pieved they keep telling me that NO ONE who paid $10 got the $20 rebate.

What info do you need, judyjudyjudy? I'll provide you whatever you need to get your other $10.

I also got shafted on this deal.

I counted the posts and it seems about 11 including me 12 people got the $10 code instead of $20.

I recommend you guys take a break for a while and let me give it a shot.
I can't promise anything, but its worth a try.
