So it looks like they've either reprinted Tales of Vesperia or dredged up some copies from the abyss. You can now buy it NEW for the low, low price of $34.78. In the several months it had been out of print prices had risen to ~$60. Given time they will probably rise again. Then again, maybe not, as the debate continues to rage as to whether or not we will see an expanded version for the PS3. Anyways, enjoy it if it's your thing.

Edit: This may not be a reprint at all as it is fulfilled by a 3rd party. I guess that means there could be limited quantities available (40-something copies if the Amazon checkout system is reflecting an accurate inventory).

Update: NYC Electronics has sold out. Third parties have copies available for $34.78+

Word. I didn't notice that. I'll update the thread title.

If you like JRPGs and own a 360, Tales of Vesperia is a MUST, ESPECIALLY if you've never played any of the Tales games. And at this price for a new copy, there really hasn't been a better time to pick it up. As for the PS3 version being localized...

http://www.vg247.com/2010/06/25/namco-bandai-puts-out-game-release-schedule/

Namco Bandai has been incredibly shitty with localizing Tales games for a long time. I'd say it's part of the reason ToV was in low-print for so long. Now the company is in debt, and I can't help but feel they deserve it. Maybe it'll finally push them into making some good money-making business decisions, like porting Tales of Graces or putting this on PS3.

Wow, I can't believe how the price of this game has gone up. It's just crazy. Now I'm really glad I picked mine up at Amazon's pre-Black Friday sale.
If only Namco would release the PS3 version someday
Yeah no shit. I also would like to see Tales of Graces & Tales of Innocence as well as Tales of VS...

But that is wishful thinking on my part.

Very sad though, especailly since Tales is my 2nd favorite RPG franchise behind Final Fantasy.

Vesperia still is the best RPG this generation IMO. I love that game so much!!

Was hearing about a new Tales game called Tales of Unitia? Suppose to be a ps3 game, just a rumor though.

I have a sealed collectors edition of the 360 version that I bought the day it came out, and I have kept it sealed because I have been waiting for the ps3 version to get released....

I might have to import a copy if I can find it I guess, or buy a used 360 version as with the price of the colelctors edition I really don't want to open it now haha

Dude, I'm actually a bit jealous. I'd keep that sucker sealed if I were you.

That is why I bought 2 of the CE. ;) (Opened one to redeem the soundtrack voucher). I actually got really lucky and got my 2nd copy from Game Crazy and then opened one to get the soundtracks!

Oh yeah and 2 of the regular and also have the Japanese version on 360.

(*Note this picture is a bit old. I added a few others since this was taken). ;)

But really. This is a solid price for the game. If you don't own it and want to play it get it now. Might not be lower. Those of us who got it when it was $15 on amazon made out like bandits. :hot: That is where I got my 2nd copy. ;)

You sir know exactly what you are doing. Respect.

Thanks OP - I love this game, but got rid of my 360 version because I expected the PS3 version to come out here. Looks like that's not gonna happen tho. Think I'll start my 2nd playthrough this weekend. :)

Ok I just want to say I'm VERY made at this thread :p .

I literally JUST TODAY bought it on ebay for 37. Still not bad (because I didn't want to pay 40+), but considering I was just putting together a big amazon order, checked for it on there a few weeks ago, and just paid 4 extra bucks or so, I am a little perturbed :( .

Sheesh, I guess my timing can't always be good.

P.S. Vendetta, I do like the Tales games, but I generally buy mainly the good ones, did you really like all of those? From what I gathered, the PS2 ones weren't that good. (I still need to get the US TOD II though, I thought I owned it but just discovered that I didn't, must have passed it up when I saw it in person when I went to Gamequestdirect's store several years back :( ).

Hmmm, I suppose the fact that I was even able to get it on ebay for that price was due to the reprint...grrr though, I just wish I would have known sooner.

Legendia was awful (I got both copies cheap though so that doesn't hurt too much). Abyss (which I actually have a sealed and open copy of now) is excellent, almost on par with Vesperia but not quite. Symphonia on Wii is good but Emil is so fucking annoying it makes the game almost unplayable. He is that bad of a character. He makes Hope from FF XIII look as bad ass as Sephiroth. Yes he is THAT bad. Symphonia on cube was fucking awesome though.

Guys, get it at this price while you can because it's reaching 100% certainty at this point that Vesperia PS3 isn't coming (or Graces, for that matter.) This article details Namco's release schedule for the remainder of 2010 and even mentions some 2011 games, with Tales of anything glaringly absent. E3 was the last, best hope for an announcement of either of these games, and yet we got nothing, so do yourselves a favor and avoid eventually getting gouged.

Thanks OP. I got this game from Goozex a while back and tried it out one night and wasn't really a fan of the combat style. I ended up trading it in at Gamestop during one of their trade in specials. I kind of kicked myself for getting rid of it before giving it a real chance. I went ahead and ordered one at this price to give it another shot. I still have several RPGs in my backlog though. /cry
Placing ordered but they are trying to charge me NJ sales tax. Anyone else being charged tax.
I did not get charged tax.

Put it at the front of the backlog. It is the best RPG this generation. Once you get a little bit further and unlock more artes and have a full party of 4 it gets really really fun. :)

That is just a list of games they announced so far. Doesn't mean they couldn't announced new Tales games for the upcoming year.

And they did started new voice acting for the Ps3 version. Voice acting isnt cheap and I don't think Namco would pay for it unless they are sure it will localize.

I think that my issue is trying to remember the moves for the artes. I'm married with kids and don't get to play every night. So it may be days between sessions and trying to master the different combos takes time. We'll see. I'm trying to finish up FF13 on my PS3 atm while blowing up cars in Blur as well.

I agree w/ ppl saying this is the best RPG this gen. Heck, I have never even been able to get into a Tales game before this one, and I couldn't put this game down. And now I'm getting ready for my second playthrough, something I almost never do with an RPG. It's just that good. :)

I was gonna pick it up simply to have a sealed copy (big tales fan) since I hadn't already, but Amazon is not liking me changing my shipping address *shrug*

Either way, everyone should take advantage of this deal while they can, Vesperia is totally worth every penny.

I don't see how you can say Emil makes the game unplayable and also say Abyss was excellent. Luke is the worst main character in any RPG I've ever played.

Luke doesn't even come close to how bad Emil is. Cry cry cry. That is all he ever did. Also Abyss' story is better. I could tolerate Luke he was not near as bad as Emil was. Emil can go fucking die.

EDIT: You really think Luke is worse than Tidus or Emil? You are the first person I have heard of that thinks Luke is that bad. I mean yes he wasn't the best one (not even close to Yuri's Awesomeness) but he is definitely not the worst in any RPG. Either that or you haven't played that many RPGs. ;)

Well I own the Cube version (and would get the Wii version if I had a Wii, still not really sold on the system), and of course I own the original PS1 game (like I said, need TOD II though, either this version or the real oen that never came here :p ).

But yeah I definitely heard at least one of the PS2 ones was awful (Legendia), but still didn't hear anything too convincing to convince a busy gamer like me to take the time to play like the other tales games in the case of abyss either.

Still a little annoyed as a cag I missed the chance on an easy buy and ship via amazon for three bucks less no less, but oh well, at least I still got it for below retail...Of course, that is assuming the shipper sends it to me in the brand new condition promised :p ...

Surprised you do not have Tales of Eternia. Unfortunately I am too cheap to get the PS1 games of Tales but I am keeping an eye out.

Uhh never mind...forgot Tales of Eternia was called Tales of Destiny II in the US. I imported the PSP version from Europe.

Sold my copy of Destiny 2 years ago for I think around $40; kind of regretting it now, looking at current prices on ebay.

Wow, looking at this made me glad that I still have my copy and that I nabbed it from an Amazon DotD for 15 dollars.

I never played FFX, the series went to shit after VI so I just gave up, but yeah, Emil wasn't that bad. You have to take into account that Emil has been abused and treated like shit for a long time by everyone in his village. Luke's just an asshole to everyone with really no reasoning behind it whatsoever. And yeah, I've played plenty of RPGs. He's the worst as far as I can remember. He takes every possible opportunity to be an asshole, and when there isn't an opportunity he creates one. The only RPG I've ever played where I genuinely wished the main character would suddenly drop dead and be replaced by someone else.

Sold out from that retailer now. Still others selling it for around the same price, but now charging shipping.

Ah ok I see where you are coming from. The guess the asshole routine didn't bother me at all because with how he was pretty much isolated from everyone he didnt know how to act. Kind of like the opposite of Estelle in ToV. She was more of the clueless kind, cheerful type vs being a clueless asshole like Luke.

I guess I just hate crybabies. HATE HATE HATE them in games. Emil took the cake. (spoilers)
I can understand being upset over watching someone kill your parents and all but man grow a fucking set and man up and not be a goddamn crybaby.
If you can tolerate Emil then you might actually like FFX. The only flaw in that game in my opinion was Tidus. Hell I hated Hope in FFXIII until he grew a set (thank you Lightning).

To each his own. Thanks for being more rational and not flame etc... than some people seem to do around here. Good discussion! :applause:

If it was coming out in the time frame on the list they'd already be acknowledging it. Despite how Namco is perpetually trolling Tales fans, I don't think that they'd deem it less worthy of mention on a tentative release schedule than, say, Despicable Me: The Game or any of the other shovelware on the list.

There have been references to VA work on a PS3 version at different points in the past, and from the game popping up on retail sites in Europe now and again I think it's reasonable to assume that at one time Vesperia PS3 may have been planned for release, but there's nothing to indicate that this is still the case. Baker's interview doesn't make it sound like his involvement with VA work for the game happened all that recently.

Sweet zombie Jesus, I hope they do release it. I was thinking of starting Vesperia last week since it seemed like they would never release the PS3 version but I'm glad I didn't. Hopefully it gets released before the end of the year.

I believe Tales of Eternia is Tales of Destiny II in the U.S. Which he have there in the picture.

I picked up Vesperia from the eariler Amazon deal, but haven't started playing it yet due to the fact that I'm finishing up my playthrough of Abyss.

I will agree that Luke was very much an ass at the beginning of the game, which had a to do with his upbrining and the fact that he lived such a sheltered life. But as the game continues -- and he makes friends, experiences the world, and has to make tough choices -- he starts to grow up and become less immature. A lot of this is built into the story so that you can see how he changes over time. He's still fairly whiny by the end, but nothing like he was in the first 1/3 of the game.
