This is why I really wish they just unlocked them with a patch. I mean nearly everyone who wants the weapons (and who wouldn't) goes about it in a manner valve does not intend (be it achievement servers or other means). You'd think they'd have realized this after releasing the packs for medic, heavy, pyro.

Pyro and Heavy are actually fairly balanced in terms of achieving through normal play. Medic and Scout are quite difficult to achieve through normal play due to some of the achievements being outside of what the class would normally do (i.e. Uber a scout - kill 3 people). Too many of the scout achievements actually require the unlocked weapons.
 
Thing is, when you play Medic it actually helps the team. When you play Scout, you probably won't be doing as good as you would with a different class. That might just be only me, but still.

All I want to say is these achievements will take awhile for me, just like how the Heavy achievements are hard for me. =p

I think it was very well made in that they are fun and fit scoot behavior.

Kill a fully charged medic
Kill from behind
Capture points (At least 5 achievements for these)
Kill lots of guys
Double Jump

See what I mean?
 
What servers do you guys frequent? I've tried to follow the last couple of pages of the thread in regard to servers, but haven't had much luck.

yup same here. got a new friend playing and we were gonna show him the ropes in an empty server so i was like hey we'll use kaydens. no dice.

fucking annoying.

At game start, you can't move for 5 minutes. You can shoot your feet and jump, but you can't move.
Game also gets stuck at Waiting for players.

Since Valve has zero support or instructions, I'm going to say fuck it unless one of you wants to look into it. I don't have the patience for this half assed shit.
 
I've been having fun on challenge map and mic spam/surf servers.

Hoping scouts will go away eventually and I can go back to normal gaming, but its a fun change of pace anyway.

They need a way to be able to list the server's settings, like what their ping limit is. I hate joining a server, dominating it, and then get that lag spike and bam, kicked.

It's not easy for them to detect things like that because that's a sourcemod. I do agree though, they ought to add an option to "See all mods" when you right click a server, effected gravity, hlstatsx, etc.
 
Game updated today. Sandman gets much-needed nerf. Now only inflicts half the damage it used to and the minimum distance to actually stun the player has increased.
 
I think it's still too powerful, the stun time to distance ratio is nuts. I got hit (On 2Fort) from the middle of my battlements (The mini-house in the middle) to the doorway to getting out to the battlements and had a ~3-4 second stun. It really needs to be 3-4 from battlement to battlement or something.
 
I always thought that stunning an ubercharge was deathly wrong. The Sandman should push back ubers like a flamethrower airblast.

I think Egypt needs some tweaks. Stage 1, a good offense can get pass this if Red decides to stack on engys/have little-to-no medics. Maybe, 1/6 times a team gets pass this stage. Stage 2 is almost impossible if you build on that arch near the second point. 1/10 times a team gets pass this stage. Then the third stage somehow is the easiest out of all of them. wtfbutter.

Junction just gets boring after the first time you play it.
 
Multi-core support has officially been released:

To turn it on, go to the Options->Video->Advanced dialog, and check the "Multicore Rendering" option

In the past this was available only as a console command and it greatly increased performance for a lot of people but also added a lot of instability. I hope this official release makes it completely usable. Should notice a big FPS bump during firefights.

I'm not going to even bother with multicore, in Left 4 Dead I had to turn it off because the game would freeze for 2-3 seconds every minute or so with multicore on but ran just fine with it off.
 
I don't notice any difference with it enabled. Frame rate with a zoomed sniper still dips for me. When I play sniper on my brother's computer, it's soooo easy. On this computer, if there's a pyro using his flamethrower or medic healing, my fps lowers... haha.

Valve announced yesterday that the next class to get an update will be the sniper, and that the sniper update will be the biggest one yet. Before that we'll be getting an update before the sniper update that includes content for all classes.

For those who missed it Valve also had a great April Fools joke: the Jarate.

It's a West-coast Seattle server that advertises 24/7 Payload rotation and false playercounts. It does not respond to player queries.

Why are these servers still showing up after the server-scoring patch?

woooo, sniper is next class update. this update is going to include a bunch of new maps and gameplay tweaks. they're also planning to release an update before the sniper update that will include content for all classes. also those videos at the end are really cool.
