Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection ONLINE!
it's the best damn 3d fighter out there... it's based off the arcade version, not the console PSP version. Read reviews and mull it over. I know not everyone likes fighters, but ATM it dosn't get better than this.
how you feel about virtual fighter? I think it might be the best 3d fighter, however, Tekken overall is a better game. Bettery story, better characters, now its online. my main point is that I'm sad that we couldn't be enjoying Virtua Fighter online as well, due to Sega being lazy.

all i see is dark ressurection for $20, or a bundle with the online for $30, have any of you just bought the upgrade for $10? i don't see it anywhere
I downloading it right now! Hella slooowww though..
i got it through gameshare from a friend, guess that's why i don't see the update, wonder if I can get it if he logs in on my system, guess i'll find out later
Everytime I try to connect to a game online it says network error. WTF. I can play Warhawk, Puzzle Fighter and the rest of my games online perfectly but this one.
Make sure your PS3 connection is NAT Type 2 and not NAT Type 3. The easiest way would be to set your PS3 as the DMZ on your router. You could also port forward the following ports to get the same effect.

80 TCP
443 TCP
5223 TCP
3478-3479 UDP
3658 UDP

This was a problem on the Japanese/HK version of T5DRO as well. You'd see a lot of people popping into rooms and then suddenly disappearing, or it seemed like people were just kicking you out of rooms.
Is the online patch alone sharable? If so, I'm willing to trade two games for it when I get home tonight (1:30 am est). Send me a PM if interested.
The Japanese/HK patch was shareable, so I don't see why the U.S. version would be any different.

I prefer VF as well, just the technicality and all. Still, I would like to get DR Online, but I don't think it's in the budget right now.

oh no... its full price now... however, 29.99 for a fully online Tekken game isn't so bad.. its cheap than it was on the PSP, and the PSP version isn't online... just had ghost system.

Tekken took one of the best features that VF4 brought to the table, [customizing characters, and player rankings, and score keeping] - I don't know the name for it exactly. But I just wished the SEGA would take the best thing that Tekken has for it... Chracter design, and voice acting, story, and now online.

oh well its Tekken time to shine so now I'm waiting for Tekken to download... gonna try to get some matches in before I go to bed.

Ever since Tekken 3, my preference has been Tekken over VF. VF5 might be a tad smoother compared to Tekken 5: DR, but IMO, Tekken 5: DR is the best 3D fighter ever. Tekken 5 was close, but the A.I. wasn't very well balanced IMO. Tekken DR on PSP was much better, but the PSP D-pad along with playing on a tiny screen hurt it. Tekken 5 DR on PS3 is just too perfect IMO, but I wish it had all the gameplay modes the PS2 and PSP Tekken's had along with online (I'd gladly pay $60 for that too).

I like VF 5 because its a more balanced fighting game.. in Tekken people can get away with being cheap... not in VF 5... all moves are categorized... so if you're using a certain move, or throw to win, all a person has to do is look at the fighters fight record and it'll show what moves they use primarily and then you can practice against that. Or if your weak in a certain area, or you're failing to use a certain type of offense.. look at your stats and you can improve. Tekken is a great arcade fighter, but I like VF 5 cause its a great "tactical" arcade fighter.

Thomsa96, at the highest levels, both T5DR and VF5 are tactical fighters lol... you make Tekken seem simple/easy when in reality it is not. VF is known for it's "depth" but out of the ppl that play it? Who knows that true depth? Like 40 US gamers? And thousands of Japanese players?

IMO VF needs online more than Tekken does, even if it won't play as it was intended to, the VF scene suffers from lack of players. Tekken owns the VF scene in numbers by a LOT.

if you joined in a long discussion a while back in the fighter thread, Tekken was decided as the better half.

So who's online tonight? I just tried some, did fairly well in a few matches but haven't won one yet. The lag is kinda hurting.

Not at all bias.

I do prefer me some Tekken though.

I'm not bias at all, I've admitted, both on TZ and VFDC if VF5 had a bigger community that's what I'd be into... :)

Also, if ppl are gonna play online make sure your internet settings for the PS3 are correct otherwise you'll be a walking network error... open up ports, set dmz, the whole shebang... do it..

Well I definitely agree with you in regards to VF needs online more than Tekken. VF suffers from lack of players (shame). I definitely don't want to take anything away from Tekken. But VF rewards more skilled persons, than does Tekken. - after really spending a lot of time with both.. that's just my take on it.

That's a truly incredible feature. I'd love to see something like that in Tekken 6/SC4, but not sure how likely that is to happen. Although... I recall someone mentioning that members of Sega helped out with T5DR Online. Maybe there's a chance for some idea sharing.

After a 1 hour battle with DNS errors, I'm going to bed. My PS3 is NAT 2, all ports open, everything. I can browse the store and download everything, I just can't play T5DR online. I either get a server connection lost, DNS error, or every room is full. Xbox Live works like a champ, so my ISP isn't the problem. I'll just sleep on it and if it doesn't work, I'll go to my friend's house and try it there.

I was looking forward to this all day.
I decided not to get this for awhile.
ahh, that reminds me, WE must meet up on PSN this weekend

its sad that I couldn't even get one damn fight in w/ Tekken. I heard that the problems are probably due to all the traffic as a result of people downloading the game. As long as whatever problem there is gets fix... I have no complaints.

well I tried... again and again... I'll give it another shot Friday night...

That is why I decided to wait a while on this. Also with awesome games coming out this month doubt I'll have much Tekken time for awhile, so no need to spend the money on it right away.

i got in about 10 matches in the last hour or so

this is definitely fun but the lag is so bad. hopefully, the network will stabilize a bit and we can play with a lil less lag.

So I have been waiting a long time for this and in 40 minutes of having the game downloaded i have played a total of 1 match and it was lagged to hell.. not impressed at all so far.

For those of you that are still having connection issues with the U.S. version even after port forwarding/setting your PS3 as the DMZ, Shadow Hado on TZ has found a fix. Below is his post.

After hours of reading forums, changing network settings, swearing at the Tekken gods that I wasn't getting my turn to play... I finally got to play some matches!

Know what ridiculous kind of thing was stopping all of us?

...

Here's the scoop. Go online, and search via quick match, opti-match, or however you prefer. You will get a list of rooms. DON'T PICK ONE!

Use the "Square" button to refresh the list, and you will get a 2nd list. Same deal, don't pick one JUST YET! Use the "Square" button to refresh one more time, and you will find a HUGE list of games just WAITING for you to join!

If you can help it, try to avoid names of users you saw earlier when you had the problem. I still saw 10 or so people that I had seen the entire time I had the error, and chose to stay away to prevent further problems.

I hope that helps all of you still experiencing network issues.

I saw this on Tekken Zaibatsu earlier tonight and I tried it and it worked! I didn't have to mess w/ anything on my router. I'm currently 4-2 online.

I find it odd how the U.S. version that was delayed is suffering from these networking issues. The Japanese/HK version all you needed to do was make sure your connection was NAT type 2.

yeah, it's very random... then again, a larger population of people trying to log in than a normal japan launch may be the problem...

:bomb: I definitely regret downloading it because I can't connect! My damn school connection wont give me more then a NAT3, yet I can download super fast.

Everytime I join a game, I get booted right away do to connection problems.

:(

I won't be able to get any games in until tomorrow night... Catch me on MarkManSDT (My mess around name :) ) !

My MarkMan account is currently 50-2...

finally played sum ! woOot!!!! kinda laggy but fun either way!!!.....btw thx for trying to help notorius, but after fidldling w/ my connections for a long time i just slept on it till this morning n tried this....worked fine....i'll try and get sum playtime tonight after work...see u guys there :)

I tried it this morning and actually got to play for an hour, before I had to quit due to having shit to do. When I did the internet connection test, it would either pass, give me a DNS error, or give me a NAT error. I put my profile on auto login and tried to play. It worked fine, but after every other match, it would tell me it had lost connection during the match when it went back to the lobby. I just pressed circle and it worked fine.

Don't know what's up with it, but I had some smooth matches with little to no lag. I was pretty happy.

I'll definitely be on later tonight and this weekend.

I don't like the idea of having to wait in a lobby and watch other peoples' matches, since it puts the "champion" at a disadvantage. I'm undefeated, though... but I'm afraid to keep playing because I don't want my first loss. :(

And I agree. This should've been free.

whaaat...

horse armor should've been free. you're getting two extra modes. they had to develop them, test them, set up servers, maintain servers etc. etc. etc.

anyway, I upgraded to cable today and now it's playing great for me, aside from some input lag.

Why does it put the champion at a disadvantage?
Why does it put the champion at a disadvantage?
Because when you get to watch them play and see how it is they win matches, you've got a better chance of beating them, as opposed to just blindly going into a match not knowing your opponent's style.

For example, when I was playing earlier, I saw the then-champion go through about 3 or 4 people using mainly punches with Bryan Fury, so I shut him out with Eddy. Then as I was playing my next three opponents, I noticed that they got progressively tougher (although I still beat them), which I'm assuming is because they saw how I was just using kicks, so by the third opponent, I had to switch up my offense.

That's how it is in the arcade, seems fair here.

I'm worried that it won't run through my router. It's not really worth the ten bucks if I have to constantly switch cables around. Maybe I'll bite once I get paid.

Oh, I see. That's the way fighting games are though. In a way it makes you a better player since you have to find new ways of beating your opponent, it's what gives fighting games their infinite replay value.
