Well hello,

I am looking to expand my horizon in terms of party music. Id like to know what CAGS listen to when they are having a get together with friends. I prefer stuff that you are able to dance to, and stuff that's not radio hip hop usually.

Here are the bands i like to play:

Cut Copy
Daft Punk
Grand National
Zoot Woman
Benny Benassi
Benassi Bros
LCD Soundsystem
Avalanches
Chromeo

What does CAG prefer to hear at a party?

"I Gotta Stay Fly" by 3-6 Mafia.

On loop.

For hours.

One of my friends did that when the song first came out. Annoyed the hell out of everyone.

Here's more to consider...

Deee-lite (they were ahead of their time)

No problem man. I'll check my mp3/cd collection later to see if there is anything else that might interest you.

Have you checked out any of BAYXTER? They're pretty awesome... one especially good dance one in particular is "Buckets of (Love)"

I'm not necessarily a fan of his work, but we always put Andrew WK on at work when we need to crank the energy level up a bit.

If dancing is an option, I'd suggest KMFDM, VNV Nation, Combichrist, Assemblage 23, and some of the Mindless Self Indulgence remixes. For starters.

I love andrew W.K. so much and i have no idea why. I seriously have listened to his CD Close calls with brick walls about 40 times. It just makes me feel sweet. lol
Maybe some MSTRKRFT? A few DJ Shadow tracks could work, too, as well as DJ Rels.
Also check out Darude, preferable the "rush" cd. He probably has done the most recognizable techno song in ages, that was "before the storm" great track, even good video. I am a music lover (country sucks!), but music is what you and your guests make of it. Personally I would suggest a lil frankie bones, darude, freezepop, with a lil 2pac, Saigon and Notorious BiG. But that might not be your crowds vibe.

Good luck though OP

Darude and Crystal Method.

Tiesto, Paul Oakenfold, Ivan Van Dahl, Paul Van Dyke, Underworld ("Trainspotting" soundtrack).

And "Zombie Nation" by Kernkraft.

Naughty by Nature, Lloyd Banks, Flo Rida.

WELLLLLL ROOMMATE BLEW MY SPEAKERS WHILE I WAS GONE! so lame they were old but really loud and sounded really good. Now i dont even feel like having people over ever again. But i still like all these suggestions im tryin my best to check them out, its kinda hard though, but thanks.

Play some old school hip-hop, too. And not just stuff like De La and A Tribe Called Quest, but some Dr. Dre and Snoop. Most people will know it.

Based on the OP's list, I would suggest Aphex Twin's Richard D. James album. Ambient enough to not be a distraction, yet has enough traction to keep things moving. Towards the end of the evening, it makes an excellent wind down album.

It also makes a stellar sound track for Geometry Wars.

edit: Hmm.. I put three videos in the post, but only one will show up for some reason. Quote me to see the others, or just search on youtube.

I told iTunes to make a genius playlist based on Cut Copy and it included VHS or Beta, MGMT, Of Montreal, The Rapture, The Faint, The Fashion, Does It Offend You Yeah, Van She, and CSS. I think that's based on my listening habits & library more than it is musical similarities. They're definitely similar in some ways, though.

Anytime I have people over with music it's always through my TV, people end up browsing my library and picking what they want to hear... no one person picks the playlist.
