Terry Funk's wrestling topic
Fine, I did it. I am happy... :)

Two VERY nice points about the tag match: FINALLY a ref "doesn't see the heels tag," and makes them switch back. That only happens to faces, usually. Nice touch. And, Harry Smith sold that leg like a fucking champ... I was impressed after the hot tag to Hardy, and triply impressed when he sold post-match.

Am I the only one that noticed when Austin was announced as appearing next week, the crowd went totally mild?
No, I think the fans have finally realized that even if Austin shows up he isn't going to do much. He's limp out there, throw up some middle fingers, stun somebody, drink a beer, throw up his finger again and then leave. Much like Hogan and the early 90s, I don't think that's what the fans want to see anymore.

Which is why:
I am praying that Santino gets the best of Austin. They could get so much mileage out of this that it's not even funny.

Well actually it potentially could be very funny.
If Santino gets the best of Austin, the fans are left stunned... and most importantly wanting to see Austin nail Santino with that stunner all the more. If this feud were to be properly booked, Austin would manage a team against Santino at the Survivor series, where he could finish promoting the Condemned and give Santino his payback.
Wonder why they'd push his debut back nearly a month.

Between Austin and DX next week, it sure as hell won't be next week, it would have no impact.
I wouldn't give up on Jericho next week just yet. WWE has been known to over-saturate a Raw or two in the past like this, only to make the next show that much more of a let-down.

IF, WWE wants to book this the best way possible, Jericho shows up at Survivor to screw HBK in his match with Orton.

y2sux should show up and call the rock a wuss for putting out disney movies only to see the great one run in and lay the people's elbow on his candy ass.

one can dream....

I posted that earlier, homeboy. I'll post the code/or you'll post the code as soon as one of us gets it. I'm planning on heading down to Florida with as many as 10 friends of mine to go to that show.
Yeah, I am sure there are a few people with some modicum of intelligence that actually enjoy wrestling even though its fake. And Beef, I already informed this thread how to make me STFU, yet people keep coming back for more. I love it.
The only one coming back is you. You say you're done, yet you pop-in again. I find it amusing that you continue to run through the electrified part of the maze.
Punk Rave, lemme repeat myself and clarify my opinion for you since you dont seem to understand it: What I don't (didn't) get about wrestling was how people could still enjoy it when they know the outcome is fixed from the get go. When people challenged me that movies are fixed from the get go I responded that movies (unlike wrestleing) don't purport to be a competitive competition.
.
You can't say " movies" in general, because there are some movies that do include competitive competition. It doesn't go " TV, Movies, Video Games, Wrestling". Wrestling can be a form of either, and in this case, it's " TV".

You know the outcome is fixed, but most of the time you don't know the outcome. And if you do, then you watch the match for the same reason that you'd watch a movie over.

There is competitive cometition in the show. Saying there isn't is like saying there wasn't in karate kid, or dragon ball z. It's all scripted and staged, but there is competition in the show. You're just not willing enough to suspend your disbelief, for some reason. The guy who can't watch wrestling because it's " fake " but doesn't know how most of the shit is pulled off ( like most of us do ), yet we still watch and enjoy wrestling.

It's ok if you don't like wrestling, just don't come inside of a wrestling thread insulting it and its fans.

let me know man... i must of not seen your post..

i didnt want to scroll up through all that crap homeboi was talking.when did you post that?

pittpizza, if you want a fascinating, educational, and funny look at wrestling, go watch Beyond the Mat. It shows just how 'fake' wrestling is, like Terry Funk needing a new knee due to excessive damage done to his existing one, and covers a wrestler being paralyzed during a match. Wrestling may not be entirely real, but it's far from fake.

Haw haw.

I'd go down to Orlando if good WM tix weren't outrageously expensive. I've been to a couple RAWs, a Thunder, a couple ECWs but never a PPV.

At the moment, it doesn't seem worth it to drive like 12 hours and sit miles away from the ring.

Then again, if I could somehow merge WM with a TNA taping... hmmm.

ROH Update - SPOILERS!

I just got off the phone with Nigel McGuinness and there is good and bad news. The bad news is that Nigel has a torn left bicep. The good news is the doctors think with some rest that he will not need surgery and that it will heal by “Final Battle” weekend at the end of December. Since Nigel has already made his first defense we will keep the belt on Nigel until “Final Battle” weekend. If Nigel is unable to compete by the end of Decemember then we might have to make a move with the belt.

Nigel wants to send his apologies for not being able to compete this weekend. I have to admit that it was a hard conversation with him. Let me assure you that there is nothing in the world that Nigel wants more than to be able to give you great World Title matches this weekend. He has worked his entire life to get to this spot and this is just terrible luck. However, it is for the best that Nigel uses this time to heal so he can be 100% when his World Title reign resumes. Nigel will be available for autographs before both the Philly and NYC events this weekend.

We apologize for the lineup change. We will have something posted soon with revised lineups for this weekend and huge news about “Final Battle” weekend. Thank you for your understanding during these difficult circumstances. We assure you that we will deliver two epic events this weekend. Thank you

BIG NAMES spotted in TNA tapings.

"Booker T and Scott Hall seen backstage at TNA's tapings."

I like Booker, I hope he gets a good push in TNA. If he signs.

Sorry about that. To some that is very sensitive material.

BIG TNA spoiler below. You've been warned.

Scott Hall and also Booker T are backstage at tonight's Impact taping (the episode that will air on 11/8).

EDIT: No warning needed until D_Icon spoilerizes his post.

Tammy Sytch's incredible, and slightly exploitative, interview from ECW on TNN - http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1sgiz_tammy-sytch-interview_sport

It's sad that the industry hasn't really learned much since this was taped. Also, the WWF footage used here is one reason that the WWF was listed as a creditor when ECW went out of business in '01.

As for
Booker
in TNA, OF COURSE he's going to get a big push - he's an ex WWE main eventer, and a recent one at that. How can there be any doubt about him getting a big push there? It might not be a money-drawing one, but he'll at least get the belt at some point during his tenure in TNA.
Has there been any news about Greg Helms' neck, aside from his neck brace being removed?
Of all the truly bizarre things to ponder about today, that was a thought that crossed my mind for reasons unknown to me. I really hope he comes back as the Hamburglar. No Hurricane, no Shane, just the Hamburglar. He can run out and interfere in every one of Bobby Lashley's matches, and no one else's, and then just run off like a maniac.
I thought I'd offer it here before trying to sell it at the venue.

Wish I could help you out on a ride, I have no idea what traffic is going to be like friday on 95 north from Baltimore.
Going to Philly? It won't be bad. South to Baltimore is usually bad on Fridays... I doubt 6-7 will be bad.
holy shit.. this next ppv is turning out to be star-packed
hell yea!? (didn't read the spoiler)

haha, I just turned on the TV to see whats up since my Anthropology paper is goin' nowhere fast, and saw Dreamer dunking Nunzio in a tub of water and was definitely thinking "....WTF?" But holy crap how could I possibly miss the MONSTER MASH BATTLE ROYAL! If no one gets injured during that match its going to be a miracle.

I'm actually feeling more confident that Y2J might show up next week since they're pushing this episode so hard. I shouldn't watch since apparently I'm in research paper season or something...

Morrison should do commentary more often. the Hootie and the blowfish comment was amazing.

God that battle royal was four minutes of pure wrestlecrap.

The battle royal somehow didn't even meet my expectations. I do like seeing all four of those "monsters" in the ring like that, but they failed to hit almost every spot correctly, no matter how simple. Can't believe Henry won.

Impact spoiler. Genesis just gets better.

Frankie Kazarian vs. Christian Cage has been announced for Genesis. The fun part is that it's a ladder match.

Haha, I felt like I was watching a match in slow motion. It was just four big ol' dudes lumbering around in the ring and then randomly throwing each other out three minutes later. Some of those punches Kane were throwing looked slightly stiff but other than that it was pure worthless.

There's something about the way Khali sells hits, and takes bumps, that I like.

It looks unique.

I can't place my finger on it.

Anyway, I grew to actually kind of like Khali. The only thing that holds him back is creative, whom made his title run look like a joke.

Man this poster looks downright indie compared to the last few epic WWE posters.

i like khali too i was kinda mad they could never turn him and davari face
Okay... were you folks really expecting a high flying high risk cruiserweight style match between those four?
no. but other than the simultaneous clothesline between V and Henry, I can't even remember a single wrestling move in the entire match. They seriously lumbered around for three minutes and then threw each other out. They could have at least done something interesting. I wasn't expecting a frog splash from Henry onto a Kane through a table or anything, though if it had happened I would be speechless. haha

I don't have an opinion one way or another on the Genesis poster, but I have to say...at least it tells me it's about pro wrestling (or the worst B-movie ever made this side of Snoop Dogg's Hood of Horror).

The WWE posters consistently look like uninspired movie posters. I do like the No Mercy one, but the "severity" (for lack of a better word) of that poster stands in contrast to the typical childish nature of their storylines.

I wish Santino keeps getting the best of Austin until Wrestlemania. Like he could start hiring out wrestlers as body doubles and fake Marias. It's been so long since we've had a genuinely smart heel. It's been this overbearing, overwhelming type heel forever which is why I'm actually all the more happy with Orton (who comes off more as a snake) as champ.

Anyway with the way its being played right now, there is so much mileage they can get out of this. It really depends on if Austin wants to stay with it or not, but this build could be classic if they kept at it until Wrestlemania.

Well I would consider the WWE takes for granted that people know who their wrestlers are. Plus their logo speaks for itself so they don't need to sell the wrestling aspect of the PPV and that's why they can afford to make their posters look grandiose.

TNA on the other hand looks like a small pictures I saw people handing out after the last ROH show I went to for their own indy fed.

 If you think the payoff will be anything other than SCSA stunning Santino and drinking a few beers while the mongoloid fanbase apes for him like the sheep they are (failing to realize that he's doing no work for a great payday, and that he'll leave again in short order), you're a fool.

I know y'all like to dream, though, of a world where the wrestling is good and storylines make sense. Were I not a cynic, I'd join you.

I have to say that SCSA is the most embarrassing ex-wrestler out there. Hogan wrestled when he came back. Foley made Orton. Flair found himself again. SCSA says "WHAT?", give a stunner, drinks a beer, and goes away for 6 months. fuck him.

I'm sure it will end with Santino getting stunned. I just hope they make the most of the build instead of one minute man-ing it.

Oh, I know. Like I said, the anticipation is always better than the payoff. I'm sure they know that, and used that very point to justify the Triple H as Superman and Hercules rolled into one title reigns of the early part of this decade.

Shame they don't do that more often. They should know that Santino getting stunned next week will kill the character he's built into a damned solid heel the past few months (three weeks after his debut, we'd all laugh at the idea of him being over at all, let alone as an awesome heel), and waste all that TV time he's had. Nevertheless, the WWE also seems to think that a wrestler getting jobbed out en masse to the "top tier" guys doesn't harm them at all...like having the entire tag division job to Triple H, for instance. They don't realize that SCSA doing to Santino exactly what they have planned, will kill his character and they won't know what to do with him at that point...and he'll find himself released soon thereafter.

It would make sense to have him get the best of SCSA, if only once. It would make sense to have him get the best of Austin (the guy's so fucking boring and predictable that the fact that WWE hasn't had any smart heel use his predictability to their advantage is a massive hole and an embarrassment), only to have some babyface (DH Smith? Jeff Hardy?) save him, leading to a PPV match where SCSA helps that babyface win the match and get his stunner all in one blow? Hell, make it an IC title match with Santino v. Hardy. There you go. Genius.

And, of course, have Hardy get a stunner for good measure, because *yawn*, SCSA don't *yawn* trust *yawn* anybod...ZzZzZzZzZz. (The only time SCSA stunning everyone genuinely felt *right* was Goldberg and Lesnar, because everybody knew they were leaving the next day).
