Terry Funk's wrestling topic

And the guy who is doing live text messages just had his phone die on him for the Glory By Honor Night 1 show.

That was a fast 500.

About Davey, I think the biggest thing holding him back is his size. He's a hell of a worker, but he's about 5'8" in boots. He makes up for it in build (for a guy his size, he's pretty solid), but I could see him having trouble looking strong against guys twice his size.

'Course, they said the same thing about Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko.

Richards has a great look though aside from his height, and you're right, he does play the comedy heel role well (he's almost like a Christian or an Alex Shelley), but truth be told, I don't think I've -ever- heard him talk (blame PWG, because he doesn't cut promos there).

His talking style has a lot of range. I've heard him do Kurt Angle type promos and Chris Benoit type ones as well. At Driven, after he taking a bit of a beating, he fell to the ropes and asked, "Where am I?" and although it clearly was fake, the timing was still funny.

He's still new to the business. I think he only has like 3 years of professional wrestling under his belt and that's nothing at all but he already looks golden and in my honest opinion, Davey Richards is probably going to end up being a ROH World Champion.

~INTERMISSION~

6) ??

7) Austin Aries defeats Bryan Danielson to win the best of 3 #1 contenders series with a 450.

~Chris Hero comes out and demands his title shot RIGHT NOW after winning Survival of the Fittest.

8) Nigel McGuinness defeats Chris Hero to retain the gold. Hero won the match, but Nigel had his foot on the ropes and it was restarted.

9) GHC Heavyweight Champion Mitsuharu Misawa & KENTA vs. Takeshi Morishima & Naomichi Marufuji ended in a 30 minute time limit draw.

Sweet & Sour Inc. come out. Sweeney demands a forfeit, but Nigel takes the bait and wrestles the match in jeans.

In what was said to be an awesome match filled with tremendous drama and an excellently booked false finish, Nigel McGuinness retains the World title over Chris Hero.

"arm lock hero in the center, the ref missed nigel on the ropes, and called for the bell, then he noticed, and decides to reverse his decision, the match continues"

Nigel wins with an arm lock. ****
ROH show was amazing.. Marafuji/Morishima went to time limit against KENTA/Misawa. Misawa looked pretty lazy out there...
Match of The Night? Any other thoughts? I'm getting stoked for tomorrow. Dragon vs. Morishima going on again. :)

I imagine Misawa is saving it for NYC. If he doesn't bring it, he WILL get booed out of the building.

I wasn't expecting a whole lot out of Misawa, KENTA and Marafuji really carried that tag match.

Fun show, really enjoyed the tag brawl between Vulture Squad and Age of the Fall and the aftermath that ensued. Aries and Danielson was good, glad to see Aries win that best of 3.

When Sweeney and Hero cashed in title match I really thought that Nigel was going to drop the belt. Thank god he didn't, I can't stand Hero, Sweeney is great though on the mic.

Worst match by far was the top of the class match. I still don't know why they had that match after the intermission break.

ROH Newswire!

Ring Of Honor returns to the Manhattan Center TONIGHT (Saturday) with a 7:30pm belltime. A title match has been signed.

ROH World Tag Team Champions Jay & Mark Briscoe will put the belts on the line against Jimmy Jacobs & The Necro Butcher TONIGHT in Manhattan. Jacobs & Necro won a non-title match over The Briscoes a few weeks ago in Las Vegas. Now they will get their title shot. Mark Briscoe reported that his foot felt great after last night's bout in Philly and he is ready to go tonight.

ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness will definitely NOT be in action tonight. McGuinness' arm was in bad shape once his adrenaline wore off after his impromptu World Title Match against Chris Hero last night. There is no way McGuinness can compete tonight, but he will be available for autographs before the show. Larry Sweeney has already threatened ROH with lawsuits after the finish of last night's McGuinness vs. Hero match. We'll have more details in this week's ROHwrestling.com Newswire.

Congratulations to ROH Wrestling Academy graduate Ernie Osiris for defeating Mitch Franklin to win the Top Of The Class Trophy last night.

Mitsuharu Misawa, KENTA, Naomichi Marufuji and Takeshi Morishima will be available for autographs during intermission of tonight's show.

Tickets will go on sale tonight for the huge end of the year double shot at the Manhattan Center. Saturday, December 29th, will be ROH's 5th PPV taping. Sunday, December 30th, will be "Final Battle 2007" with a special 5pm belltime. Both shows will feature stacked lineups including all the ROH regulars and international talent.

Tonight's show will feature a ceremony for legendary NOAH referee Joe Higuchi that will include hall of famer Harley Race.

Probably to lead people back in the show. What would your match of the night be?

I'm wondering if they'll do Hero/Nigel again tonight in NYC and we may see a new ROH champion at the Manhattan Center....
What would your match of the night be?
The NOAH tag match. Shame it ended with a draw, the crowd was pissed and chanting "5 more minutes." It really started to heat up toward the end.

Basically they teased you? If this was the case I imagine Misawa may be back this December for the NYC double header with the 5th ROH PPV and Final Battle 2007.

The main event was the match of the night despite Misawa's sluggish, seemingly uncaring performance.

Other than that... Dragon vs. Aries was pretty good as well. A little too technical and not spotty enough for me, but impressive none the less. It's a shame that the TNA guys can't wrestle for ROH anymore... and TNA never really comes up to the Chesepeake area. Although I think I saw Homicide near the computer table during the main event..

It also looked like there was a ton of Japanese press there covering Misawa's journey to the East Coast.

The Armory was packed too, that had to be the biggest crowd since the ZCW invasion angle from a good year ago.
Thank god he didn't, I can't stand Hero, Sweeney is great though on the mic.
Agreed x 2. That fat kid in the blue hat kept chanting "You're my Hero!" and got the zombies to chant along with him. If you check out the DVD later you might notice a "Shut the fuck up" chant I started in response. You think starting a dueling "Shut the fuck up" chant against a 14-or-so-year-old kid is cruel? hmm...

She's had some serious health problems lately (including apparently needing an eye replacement surgery), so this isn't entirely surprising, but it's definitely sad to see yet another legendary figure in wrestling pass away.
I wonder if WWE will continue to make a fool of her.

rip..

man just noticed thq didnt give funk an entrance song... i hate it when they do this..

hopefully it lets us edit songs for the in game roster

Nah, Mae Young is still around for that.

WWE needs to start planning for the future though. Once she is gone, they will only have Sgt. Slaughter and Jimmy Snuka left to fill in the frequently used "disappointing mystery opponent" spot.

The 360 version allows for custom soundtracks for themes, so it isn't a huge loss for that one version, but it is a slap in the face for Funk, who FINALLY gets put into a WWE game and it's in a half-assed manner.
Is it wrong if Delirious is one of my favorite ROH guys?
No, since he's one of maybe a half dozen people that stand out. Very entertaining.

Oh, they've custom built Foley to take over in that spot.
