Anyone play this/have any opinions on this game? I saw it in EB today, so its out. Looks cute from the boxshots, but I havent read any reviews lately.

Reviews are not good, but even the press release was amusing. Way to go Atlus. I'll wait for myself to get tempted seeing it at EB or something.

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA — FEBRUARY 20, 2007 — Atlus U.S.A., Inc., a leading publisher of interactive entertainment, today announced that Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja has shipped to North American retailers and is in stores now!

Finally, a dungeon RPG strong enough for a man… but played as a hot chick! Bust out those nunchucks and get back to the old school, hardcore, monster bashing we all grew up on! See if you have what it takes to conquer the impossible levels and gruesome bosses. After all, does it get any better than the feeling of cold steel at the palm of your hands?

Here’s just a taste of what’s being said about this eagerly-awaited title! “Izuna is a retro-esque action-RPG that stays true to its heritage of fast-paced gameplay, while injecting a much-needed dose of humor along the way, something that is often in short supply in RPGs.”

“The joy is in the witty comedy. It’s not just that the lines are funny, but that they seem completely out of place in this Japanese dungeon RPG. It acts almost as a spoof and is a welcome change to a genre filled with the same stories year after year.”

I was originally interested in this game because I thought it was basically Zelda with magic powers and humourous dialogue. Then I learned the gameplay is very much like the Mysteru Dungeon 'series', which I hated. I'm passing on this, but I might pick it up when it's clearanced.

For what it's worth, reviews for rogue RPGs are always terrible. If you loved Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue/Red or Nethack, you'll probably love this too. I'll probably pick it up at a later date.

The only experience I have with these 'Mystery Dungeon' games was playing about 5 hours of 'Chocobo Mystery Dungeon' on ps1 back in the day. I remember not being very impressed. I think I'll wait for a pricedrop on this one, or grab a used copy at the next b2g1 sale.

I wanted to buy it almost as soon as I saw the humor and game cover/art.

Then after seeing a video on YouTube...wtf? Do the battles require button input at all? And really, what is a dungeon crawler? o_o

it sounds very difficult, but I wonder if reviews are overplaying the "lost item" thing.

The game is alright, and yes when you die you lose EVERYTHING that you didn't put in the store house. All your items, all your gold, gone; but it's not really that big of a deal because the dungeons are riddled with items you'll often fill up your inventory crawling through a dungeon.
One cool thing I like about the game is you find talismans in the dungeons and you can stick them to your weapons to make them more powerful, but if your stick too many on your weapon breaks.
In all I think the game is probably worth it for less than $20.

i like this game, its harder than the pokemon mystery dungeon, and the whole losing item/gold thing just adds difficulty, doesnt make it bad, i like the adding talismans to your weapon to add effects to it, ive gone through the same dungeon a few times looking for certain ones to power up my weapon, also the "luv" that you can add on the weapon from attacking with it or getting attacked with it equiped also makes the weapon stronger
(btw, there is a way you can keep your weapon, just burn a kikan talisman onto it, and whenever you die itll go back to your storage)

Does losing stuff when you die really make the game any more difficult? In a game like Diablo, you'd lose all of your equipment when you died and had to pick up your corpse's stuff, even though it's surrounded by swarms of monsters. Is equipment overly difficult to replace if you lose it?

nope, its pretty easy to get back most of it with one trip down in the dungeon, plus theres a talisman you can stick on your weapon to make it go back to your storage if you die(one time use)however later in the game you're gonna need to power up your claw or blade+arm cuase they guys only get stronger(rainbow marimo kicks my ass )
