Wow, what more can you say? They simply would not call shooting fouls against the Lakers. The NBA should be ashamed that this happened on national TV.

Oh, please. Nothing personal, but it's always Boston fans crying foul (no pun intended) regardless of the sport.

Great game by both teams. Now we sadly get to see the Cavs beat the Wizards by 25.
 
I can't believe Washington blew that game. Okay, I can, because it's Washington. But the Wizards had the Cavs beaten there. fuck. Why can't Cleveland just lose?
 
How bout them Lakers!! With consistent defense and great offense they beat those overrated Boston Celtics 92-83 victory.. Finally!! It was also funny when I was watching the game and heard the "Boston Sucks" Chant lol

They either beat themselves or the refs job them out of a win. And when there's little to complain about, Boston fans kindly remind you of the futility of your city compared to the dominance that they have exhibited, especially recently with the Pats, Red Sox and Celtics. Boston > you + deities combined.;)

The officiating was good at this game. Calls were going both ways but the Celtics fouled alot more. Get use to it Boston fans you guys lost your 19 winning streak.

They did call fouls against the Lakers. Im actually surprised that Boston Celtic fans are whining and crying about this game being fixed/horrible officiating when there team lost. It was the same in the NBA Finals last season in Boston. Those games were fixed and it was one sided on calls
 
Yeah that was a good game!!! I just got home, the place was going off when Hill made that layup, but with 4 seconds left I had a feeling they were going to tie or something, definitely didn't see a three coming. You could hear a pin drop after that shit!

Watched the Celtics game after... man Suns and Celtics lost, not my day, but still had a blast.

27th I go to Coyotes/Kings game, so hopefully Coyotes win that for me... or else... I hate you Matt Young.

The Celtics lost because they failed to take control of the game when the opportunity was there, they turned over the ball a lot, and because they only scored 2 points in the final 3:56. But those horrendous offensive fouls didn't allow them to build any momentum, and even you Laker fans and Boston haters have to admit that some of those were pretty bad.

The Celtics game offensively is penetration and drawing fouls, they didn't get to the line once today until there were 13 seconds left in the 1st half. But the Celtics bench hurt themselves in the 2nd quarter when they weren't getting their hottest shooter, Ray Allen, involved in the offense. They stopped running up the floor in transition, didn't draw the defenders in and kick it out to Allen for the 3. The bench struggled without longer guys like P.J. Brown and James Posey instead of Powe and Big Baby.

It was clear that the Lakers were going all out to win the game when they didn't rest Kobe in the 1st half, the Lakers could afford to do that since they don't play again for 3 days. The Celtics play the next day and have 3 more games on the West Coast to finish out 2008, so they played their normal rotation.

Whoa there, sport. The Celtics are not overrated. I love the Lakers, but the Celtics are just as good. The Lakers may have won this regular season game, but the Celtics beat them in the Finals last year and still have a better record this year. I won't let my bias blind me to how good Boston is. I'd put the 2 teams on the exact same level. I don't think we'll be able to determine who's better until they (hopefully) meet in a 7 game series this June.

Since Devin Harris was mentioned during the Mavs/Blazers game (nice red and green Christmas color coordination, by the way)- do you guys think the Nets can keep up their decent start and contend for the playoffs? I had them pegged to be the second worst team in the league after OKC, but they're 14-14 and Devin Harris is in beat mode.

Postgame edit: Wow... the Blazers just collapsed there. Roy could have brought them right back in it with that 3, but he missed badly. Props to Dallas for beating a very game Blazers team, even after Josh Howard was ejected early on.

Today was the best day of basketball I can remember in a long, long time. This all reminds me of why I used to obsess over basketball and why it was my favorite sport for so long. I kind of stopped watching regularly (but always kept up with things) around 2003. The Bulls were no good, the Lakers were no good, and the game just wasn't entertaining. Teams like the Spurs, Nets, and Pistons were just no fun to watch and they were the ones contending year in and year out.

Bill Simmons was right- fuck parity. The league is infinitely better when there are some very elite teams and some really horrible teams, rather than all but 2-3 being in the middle of the pack.

I wouldn't. I'm a huge Lakers fan and I would still put Boston a step ahead of them. Why? Defensive consistency. Until the Lakers can show that night in and night out, the Celtics have the edge. Lakers won this game, which made me very happy, but I still haven't seen enough from them this season to say they can beat the Celtics in a seven game series.
 
The Bulls are playing a rare nationally televised game right now. I wish the DirecTV guy would get here so I could watch the rest in HD. The Bulls are wearing their black unis as they play the heat in the first ever matchup between #1 pick Derrick Rose and #2 pick Michael Beasley and the Heat. It's 21-18 Bulls after 1. Ben Gordon has hit 3 three pointers and, I was surprised to find out, is 1 behind Scottie Pippen for most threes ever in a career by a Bull.

In my opinion the Boston Celtics have lost a little momentum because of a couple of players leaving there team as free agents etc. I think the Lakers might have a chance to beat Boston if they play like they did on Christmas Day. Lakers do lack defensive consistency but I really hope they learn alot as the season progresses and pick up there defensive intensity.

Traditionally its David Stern who hands the Celtics their trophy after they've won it, but I suppose he'll delegate that to Adam Silver eventually.
 
Luol Deng is out only a week at most. That's a relief. He's under-performing this season, but the last thing we need is another injured player.
 
Belinelli is a huge flopper, but KG got him with a good hard pick late in the game. Won't be the last if he keeps that shit up. Might be an interesting matchup against Manu Ginobili though, I could definitely see some simultaneous flops.

I was at the game and Bellnelli flopped on a couple...but there was one bullshit play where KG decked Bells and made it possible for Eddie House hit a 3.

KG's a huge bitch....picks on dude's half his size...he got punked by ZaZa Pachulia and Anthony Peeler...

He fell to the floor without any contact from KG at all and drew the foul. KG gave him a good hard pick, exactly what he deserved. Should've been a foul for an illegal screen, but oh well. And please, its been happening to Rajon Rondo all the time from bigger guys because he doesn't keep his head up.

If he can't handle the retaliation he'll get after all his flops, he should go back to Italy where that shit belongs.
 
So the Blazers had 6 guys on the floor (not just somebody with a foot off the sideline, 6 guys actually playing) and they make a basket. The refs catch it and give them a T, but let them keep the 2 points. What the hell?

Unbelievable. These incompetent refs cost the Celtics the game. According to the rules, they should get a T and they pick up the game from the point where they had 6 guys, and they also have 24 seconds of game time to correct any mistake. This happened with less than 11 seconds in the half, and they had the whole half to figure it out, and they still blew it.

Do we have a college basketball thread?

That Illinois/Purdue game was fun. First college game I've watched all year. I never have liked college sports as much as the pros.

I was afraid Illinois would lose after that bullshit foul call with 1 second left, but Purdue only tied it and lost in OT.
 
For Xmas, my bro got a pair of tickets for us to go to the Celtics game on the 12th against Toronto and he got tickets for our Dad and us for the last game of the season against the Wizards. We'll see how that last game turns out, could be a real snoozefest if they've clinched by then, but it has potential to be a big game too.
 
I was at a hockey game earlier, so I just now watched the Lakers vs. the Carlos Boozer-less Jazz. LA kept getting up big, but Utah would always make a run and cut the deficit down to single digits, even as few as 3 points. But in the end, the Lakers won 113-100 on 40 points from Kobe and 21 from Gasol, who scored his 10,000th career point.

Just finished watching the Lakers game off the DVR. It is both a blessing and a curse when both the Lakers and the LA Kings play on the same night, because I end up spending 5 and 1/2 to 6 hours in front of the TV just for those two games.

Once again, the Lakers blew their lead in the 4th, but this time, they didn't recover and the Hornets won. New Orleans, meanwhile, has been looking more and more like the team that took the Lakers to the last game of the season over the 1 seed in the Western Conference last year. David West was beastly with 40 and 11, while Kobe had 39 for the Lakers.

The Bulls also beat the Kings, but of course, I didn't get to see it. Next Bulls game I'll see is a week from Thursday on TNT when they play the Cavs. Speaking of the Cavs, how odd is it that they can beat most any team, yet they lost to lowly Washington after barely scraping by them last time around on Christmas day?

But I have been following some of the Boston Celtics games and Im quite surprised they lost a little steam theses past couple of games. They just lost tonight against the Houston Rockets 89-85 with Boston having home court advantage. Wow!

Well I'm really liking these previous Warriors that have come over to the Suns, both Barnes and J-Rich work really hard. And they seem to be fitting in with the rest of the team.

It sucks that Mullin/Nelson/Riley/Cohan/Rowell are such dumbasses because the whole NBA saw what the Oracle was like in a playoff atmosphere....which isn't much different than a regular season Warriors game.
 
Celtics have been through a rough stretch, were playing a lot of halfcourt basketball which played into Cleveland's hands. Cleveland got some ridiculous calls though it didn't really affect the outcome.

I'm not too concerned, these things happen over the grind of a long season. They'll add to their bench down the road which should help.
 
Not a good showing by the Celtics. Yeah, there are rough stretches in a season, and they probably came out of the gate too quickly, but the Cavs are the primary competition in the East, and this would have been a good time to send a message. But the look on Garnett's face at the end of the game said it all.
