Sorry I only hate the Yankees and Red Sox more than the cubs. Plus, we swept you guys :applause:
The Rays know all about losing, so don't be so cocky. ;)

Well I'd love the chance to face you guys again this season because it would mean we'd made it all the way to the World Series.

It would be quite funny if the Rays made it to the World Series and the Cubs lost in the first round, meaning all of the last four expansion teams have made it since the Cubs last did.

You're evil.
God Dam fucking Shitty Mets Bullpen!!!!!!!!
Yeah I can't take it anymore. I am happy I was watching football today and not the Mets. I kept checking the score but I would have gotten more pissed off if I was watching it.

Sox are one win or a Yankees loss from clinching a playoff birth. Hopefully it happens tomorrow. It would be pretty fitting had the last series at Yankee Stadium, been against the Red Sox and the Red Sox take 2 of 3 to win the East. I'll settle for that at Fenway.
Zach Jackson is awful, I fully expect the Red Sox to clinch tonight.
That probably means he'll have an awesome start against the Sox and hold them to 2 runs over 6. Then insanity will ensue with a bullpen disaster from the Indians. That, or he'll just get torn to shreds.

I listened to them on the radio last night since i was watching the buffalo game. I think only the mets can use 4+ relievers a game and blow leads on a normal basis. i know there is going to be one day the Mets bullpen makes me say "uncle" and its very close to that.

Go Cubs!

The suspensions handed down for the incident between the Indians and the Tigers are pure bullshit. While realistically Carmona would be missing at most one start due to suspension if he staggers it between this and next season, Martinez and Cabrera getting 3 games while Sheffield (the only guy even suspended on the Tigers) only gets 4 is ridiculous. The guy starts the whole incident after being hit by a pitcher who has had control issues all year, and then calls out the other team publicly and makes threats against them, saying they'll "get their punishment from me later". How that is only worth one more game than a catcher protecting his pitcher and whatever the hell Cabrera did is beyond me.

Thats just too weird, well minus the BP part since they held on, but 2 runs over 6 innings, wow.

I would be really pissed off at this picture right now...but im not. . Im a lost of words right now. So it happens that the Mets not only give up 1 grand slam to a pitcher they give up 2 this year and 3 total which i think leads all time and to fucking Jason Marquis. fucking jason marquis?! oh and top of that, the Mets bullpen gives up 3 more runs..and when the offense finally starts to hit again. :bomb:

I just finished watching ESPN and they showed some horrific numbers comparing Sept 07 -> Sept 08. They are so similar is fucking sickening.

only 6 games left and not much time till the Brewers catch us. I almost laughed at Jerry Manual's words that they will be a dangerous team if they touch ground in the playoffs. He better find a quick fix to the ailing pen or else we might as well look forward to April 2009 at Citifield.

oh man, tonights a big game. We get Big-Z tonight against Ollie. Im so hoping we can dent Z. I dont know if it will happen becuase the cubs lost last night becuase the young pitcher they played last night didnt pitch too well..meaning i dont know how they will handle Zambrano who is good.
Crossing fingers Brewers/Phillies lose.(sorry Kwillis)

Sike.

I'm hoping the Mets actually make it to the NLCS and then get throttled by the Phillies. My cousin is a huge Mets fan and that would crush him. Well, them not making the playoffs wouldn't be so bad either.

nothing against the dodgers, but IMO they won't make it to the nlcs...so whoever takes 1st in the nl east, will most likely make it to the nlcs.
Dodger's magic number is 3!
Dodgers cheat. :nottalking:

Diamondbacks threw their playoffs chances away when they got owned in the last two series against the Dodgers. Our starting pitchers picked a great time to start fucking up.

It's disappointing given the circumstances, but there is always next year right?

Now you Dodger fans can go WIN!!111 DBAGS HAVEZ NO CHANCEZ!!! RAWRARJJSDFlskflsfkalsk. But what happens if Manny doesn't sign for next season? ;)

oh i can share you pain immensley.

3 innings with basically sweet scoring opporutinities...and cant get 1guy in. Murphy hits a sweet triple and than David Wright Swings for the fences...im not gonna argue delgado held up at 3rd....im split if he would make it or not. this is truly a demoralizing loss...and on top of that...the phillies lost so we dont make up any ground on the division. :bomb::cry:

edit: and the fucking brewers are tied now. i was never going to expect them to lose to the pirates..bah!

I'm hoping the Cubbies make it to the world series. I watched quite a few games when I had WGN, and they're an all-around good team. It'd be a dream matchup for me for a Cubs/Bosox series, but I just hope one or the other makes it.

IMO it will be the angels and cubs...the only thing preventing the angels from making it to the WS, is the fact that haven't had to play a meaningful game since the first day of the season. IMO the only thing that could hold them back is the fact that they haven't been put to the test and we have no idea how some of there players will do when put under some big time pressure.

I'd like to think a well rested Beckett, Daisuke, and Lester could stand in their way too. Add to it that Drew is back and should get a little more rest over the next few days and Lugo could spell some players too. The division is the Rays, barring a complete collapse and they lose 4 straight and we win 4 straight. If I am the Rays, I wouldn't want to face the Twins, assuming they keep up their home hot streak. I think the Red Sox will do pretty well, assuming that let some young starters go out there and give the guys that need some rest, rest. Wake, Byrd, and a few others could help spell the big 3.

the problem with the sox is there inconsistency. Some days the offense is there somedays it isn't...Somedays the middle relief can hold it, some days they can't...every single starter has had at least 1 horrible start in the past month...and who knows with pablebon right now...I am not saying it is unreasonable for them to click at the right time, but I just don't see them winning 11 games in oct.\

granted i got in a bad car accident late last week, and haven't followed the sox much besides boxscores, but I thought lugo was done for the year, he isn't going to help...and drew doesn't need more rest, he needs his timing back..

that and the fact lester is up over his inn limit for the year, I wonder how much he has left in the tanks going forward.

That sucks to hear about your accident. As for Lugo, there was speculation he may be able to spell some INF, but I've not heard any more on that front. And you're right about Drew, he should be the best rested person on the team at this point.

Other than playing the Rays, the Red Sox have played exceptionally well, coming into tonight, I think they've only lost one game in quite a few series in a row, with the exception of Tampa, only winning 2 total in 6 games. Since the beginning of August (after their terrible series with the Angels), the Red Sox have only lost 3 series (2 to TAM and one 2 game set to TOR). Other than that, they've lost 1 in every other series. They're hot right now, except when they play TAM.

We shall see though, I think we can take out Lackey in a 3 game set with the Angels. They probably rough up Daisuke, since he likes to walk a few batters a game and the Angels play a lot of small ball. Lester is really the wild care here. Does he pitch game 2 or 3?

Edit: After looking at the splits, Daisuke gets the nod for game 2, as he is a better road pitcher than Lester.
if they dont beat Harden tonight...it may be so.
I'd feel bad for you if I wasn't a Pirates fan

We have $50mil in bad contracts coming off the books this year. Management can pick up Manny, C.C., and still have money left over. We have $40mil in bad contracts coming off the books next year, so we'll probably be chasing big FAs next year too.

And thanks for the division San Diego! Way to not show up this week! Classy.

They have brutalized all comers this year. Scioscia's team has NEVER been unprepared for a big game. Anyone that beats the Angels will have to beat them, cause they sure as hell ain't gonna beat themselves.

I can't imagine the Dodgers in the NLCS, but hey, stranger stuff happens all the time in this sport. I still can't believe that absurd Cardinal team won a few years back. We won it all in '88 with little more than a Cy Young (and not one other arm worth mentioning) and a single at bat against an invincible A's team...

Yeah you got a point there, Dodgers are going to do everything they can to keep him, besides bringing a bat he has totally revitalized the Dodgers as a team.

Congrats on the clinch, Dodger fans.

the angels have a lot of young players, a manager only can do so much.

As for big free agent signing by the dodgers they do have a lot of money coming off the books...the gm made some comments about resigning manny, that I heard on weei today. The issue with signing manny is the $100 mill he wants. Seattle has already said they were going for some big free agents, the angels have money and don't want to be outspent by the dodgers considering the market, the mets and yanks both need big bats and a frontline SP, so it will be interesting this offseason.
Lol Mets
-
Did anyone see that guy sitting behind home plate flip two birds to the cameras in the 10th inning of the game last night?

I feel bad for Mets fans. This will be two years in a row that the team has imploded on them. I'm excited about the Cubs season but come next week 90+ wins means jack squat. They've gotten to the post season now they need to do something with it.

EDIT: Mets just tied the game. I'm worried about Cotts and Howry in our pen come playoff time. They've really been sucking it up in the second half.
Eh, if we would've used Marmol and Wood we would've won. Not a big deal.
The Cubs, Dodgers, and Angels aren't really playing for anything right now, so resting their best players is a good option, thats what expanded rosters are for during September. Cubs already have homefield throughout the NL playoffs, if they make it past the NLDS.

So what happens if both the Brewers and Mets get swept this weekend, and the Astros sweep the Braves?

That would leave the Brewers and Mets in a tie for 1st, with the Astros a half game behind with a make-up game left to be played. Should that make-up game happen and the Astros win, that would be a three-way tie. Things might get interesting.

EDIT - Nevermind, unless the Brewers pen blows a four run lead in the last two innings.
