I was just about to post asking when that may have happened before. That was the damndest thing I have ever seen.

Final line:

Angels 0 5 2
Dodgers 1 0 2
but i really wasnt paying attention to mariano this season, 22/22 with saves .76 era and something like 9 hits.
I was thinking it had to be because his inn were down without torre sending him out all the time for more then an inn appearance...but looking at the stats that doesn't appear to be the case. He is just having a great year.
yeah Mo is back with a vengence....what a come back year after a dismal last year. the road team has won all 5 games....this could become a funky trend in NY lol.

Crossing my fingers we get the good ollie tomorrow. i never know which one im going to see. I think the mets need this win desperately..if they want any momentum coming in to the next series of games for them.
whoo hoo. we got the good Ollie today. although he pitched like this against the yankees the last time.

i cant believe Delgado is getting hot....but he has been only hitting the yankees. He is one of the team lead for HRs and he raised his OPS to .734. he is no longer the second worst in the league in OPS...I hope he keeps this up and shoves my haterade back in my mouth. I hope his hitting can last...but im really skeptical..

The AL east top 3 teams have a tough week ahead of them. They will all play each other before the all star break. Boston has a set with tampa in NY away. NY and tampa will also play each other b4 the break.

The rays are playing great, I still feel that as summer goes on they will slide back into a distant 2nd or third. Of the 3 teams, they have had the most friendly schedule. Team wise and home/away split wise. IMO they will start to fade the latest mid aug. I don't think they will stay in contention as long as the mariners did last season.

I still don't think the yanks have the starting staff or bullpen to either win the east nevermind it all. But with injuries, you never really know what will happen. The good thing about the redsox injury wise, the majority of past contributors have had lengthy stays on the DL so far. Beckett and Dice K were both out a couple of weeks. Lowell missed a couple weeks, schilling hasn't/won't pitch at all. Colon is back on the DL and he was effective as a starter. Youk missed some time, manny missed some time, and then ortiz hasn't played in about a month, and for them to still be so close, to me, is as suprising as the position of the rays.

allegedly manny pulled a chacon and threw the teams travel director to the ground a couple days back...something to do with manny wanting 15 or so tix to sat game in houston, and the guy couldn't arrange that many. Manny yelled at him to do his job and an altercation errupted, with the travel director on the ground.

Also 2 seperate reports on threats to the team. One from a former baltimore resident now residing in NC. He threatened any black and latino player that played with the redsox....there also was some threats made against the sox by tampa residents. I heard that on the local weei sports station so no links for the threats to the team

Rebuilding year? Who needs rebuilding when you got Teh Franchise and Johnathan Sanchez!

5 GB!!!!

I think my Giants are like 10 under .500? I love the NL West.

Damn, the Cubs are still stuck in this funk. At least the Mets beat the Cards keeping them from gaining a game. I know Aramis is out of the lineup for the next few games but C'mon one run....

By Friday Zambrano will be pitching and A Ram will be back in the lineup. Then by the 15th Soriano should be back too.
Cant Believe Armas won today. Decent performance and a decent outing on offense got us a win today. still 3.5 games back..
Don't tell me you still believe in this team?!?! The only reason they are only 3.5 back is because the Phillies have been playing terrible. If the Mets have been playing good baseball, they would have taken over first by now. The Mets are the most inconsistent team in the league. They have no chance this year.

Twins sticking it to the previously hot Tigers. If not for a bullpen shitfest on Monday, this could have possibly been a sweep. Assuming we win today, which is not a given at all. But 5-0 in the 3rd is nice.

Red Sox are on one bad skid before the all star break. They better sweep the Yankees or come close to it after this Rays series, because if the Yankees somehow sweep they can manage to take second place if the Sox lose tonight and Yankees win.

Looking at the Sox schedule after all star break it looks pretty good till the last month where they have to face the Yankees in their final games of the year and the Rays for two series before going into the playoffs.

The MLB regular season is LOOONNGG.

A few weeks ago the Red Sox were awesome, now they can't get out of their own way. The bullpen has officially imploded tonight

Times like this I wish I didn't pay attention all season

Dam, That was harsh haha.

I wont give up until we are mathmatically eliminated, although its painful to watch them sometimes. Like tonight. Feliciano giving up that 2 run home run to duncan and than allowing 2 more people on base. Inconsistency is the correct term for this team. Albeit, i do agree we wont even have a shot a the WS but at this point, i dont even mind the playoffs. Even losing in the playoffs would make me feel happy because after the crap this team put put to make it that far..i would be surely proud of them..but im not getting my hopes up.

I just hope Minaya and Bernazard are gone by the end of the season. Its those two guys im really sick of at the moment..and probably forever.

Haha sorry. I am just so fed up with this team.

I did hear that Minaya might get an extension. Who the hell knows why though.

I know how ya feel. Ya should watch this. Its my friend's uncle talking about how hard it is being a met fan. Its funny but its true.

Oh god why would they give minaya an extension. He gave us 1 good year and than tore our roster up to pieces...and made horrid management decisions...Keeping Tony Bernazard was like giving candy to a child. They are both idiots. im sorry, i cant stand these roster moves any longer.

Oh yeah chalk it up to the bullpen to let us lose again today. Feliciano and than Muniz. All got done in by gopher balls. Can we get through one game..where our bullpen doesnt get shelled. =(

it's great to see someone else besides the sox and yanks winning games and taking divisions...there is more to baseball than the Red Sox, Yankees, and Cubs...

umm not really...you can throw the mets in there..but playoff and ws ratings are usually down a lot when the redsox or yanks aren't in it

by the end of the season, the cubs and redsox will be in charge of there division..

Wow. Guess we'd better call up the other 26 teams and let them know they should stop showing up now. As a fan I don't care about the ratings, because guess what, of course they're going to be higher when the largest markets in the country are involved. There's a rather large portion of the country who couldn't care less when the same old teams are involved year after year.
You think being a Mets fan is hard? Try being a Cubs fan!
I feel your pain, I'm a Giants fan..

I hate fuckin' Tyler Walker...should be in line to take the series from the Cubs but the dumb shit blows ass.

Teh Franchise is pitching tonight.
umm.. guys.. you guys at least made the playoffs with in the last 15 years..
At least you guys won the WS in 79'. They're playing reasonably well this year.

I hope you're right. The Cubs poor play on the road and current funk are very concerning. Boston is going to have their hands full with the upstart Rays as well. They just can't be stopped right now.
At least you guys won the WS in 79'. They're playing reasonably well this year.
well?? 40-44 is good for them.. but this is no playoff team... the team is so bad that the fans are okay with a .500 season...
There's a rather large portion of the country who couldn't care less when the same old teams are involved year after year.
But there is a larger portion of the country that doesn't give 2 shits about a houston/ana world series.
Lincecum is now 10-1. Kid is just lights out.
Son....they don't even know had badass this kid really is.

If you have SI, he's on the cover, great read, he's actually a physical phenom, that's never been seen before.

What's crazy is were only 5 GB...if that asshat Zito never pitched (3-12) and was replaced with any other dude who could manage maybe 7-8 or 6-9....were right there.

Teh Franchise
Johnathan "K" Sanchez
Matt Cain

That 3 i'd put up against any in the bigs....

lincecum has some pretty nasty stuff from what I have seen recently on sportcenter highlights. The one thing that would concern me about him, is his size. Someone that is throwing the ball 96mph with a body like his, usually don't last long. Hopefully for the giants fans here, either he will beef up a bit or be one of the few small guys that can do that for awhile.

That was his major reason for falling to #10 in the draft. But, this year he's developed a nasty changeup.....I remember in the off-season the team was considering trading Teh Franchise for Alex Rios...another reason Sabean should be fired.

What's cool about Teh Franchise is he walks around the City all the time...saw him once at Stonestown mall...he looks like he's 16...was wearing baggy sweatpants...a baseball cap...and a hollister t-shirt.

Wasn't it you wondering why so many people despise Red Sox fans?

I think it's incredibly boring to see the same teams win the playoffs. It's much more interesting when you have teams playing that most think are irrelevant. I don't think I'm the only one liking the Rays being ahead of the Red Sox.

See also: The Marlins world title runs, the Rockies run last year. Breaking away from the traditional, same old same old will generate interest and get people excited about the sport again. Dynasties aren't good for the sport, but it's really hard to see that when it's your team that's winning.

Yeah, good point. I would probably think the same thing if my team were in the World Series every season.

Anyway, Padres today. It should be a good one.

No, doesn't really make a difference to me if someone hates the redsox or not...

Its funny but you never hear people bitch about ana or st louis...both those teams have won the world series this century. They both are in the thick of things more often then not at the end of the season, but some only point to the redsox and yanks as being the same teams every year. Minn has been in the post seasons play a lot the past 8 years, and they are usually in it come late sept. Why don't you hear for the royals, rangers or the orioles. Those teams have either never or not recently fielded a competitive team.

I really don't see having a team like colorado in the world series is going to bring in more viewers. Maybe more colorado viewers for the short term, but I highly doubt those band wagon fans from last year are all still there to support them this season. I don't know why for the redsox, but even before they won in 04, they have a large national fanbase. The yanks have a huge national fanbase. Yes, boston and NY are big tv markets, but so isn't LA, chicago and houston and when there teams were in the MLB playoffs/worldseries the numbers were down. Yes a sample of fans like yourself are happy that the redsox/yanks aren't there. But the simple fact of the matter is, the majority of people that would be willing to watch the world series don't agree with you. Ratings don't tell the same story that you are having. I agree, it could affect people to see 2 teams they never heard about in the world series and get them excited. The sad fact is the ratings don't support that.

And to make you point even more worthless, if the season ended today, the redsox would still be in the post season. You had stated that it is good to see other teams besides the yanks/redsox in the mix of things. That isn't the case as the redsox are heavily in the mix. They were the first to 50 wins, they are 4 back in the loss columm right now. They have played a lot more then the rays, and have played a lot more on the road then the rays.

Yes the rays are playing excellent baseball right now. At the begining of this season I said they would be a 3rd place, possible 2nd place team in the AL east and would give whoever wins the east a lot of problems. They have been a decent team for years, but they didn't have depth in starting pitching and there bullpen was atrocious. They ran all over the plays and played very good series in the past, but they usually wound up losing. This year they have pitching depth and still have the speedy offense. I still think that as they start playing more road games, they will fall off the high horse that they are on, and end up a 92 - 95 win team. They play 17 road games in the month of sept including boston and ny.

to bad he doesn't hit like captain america

I really hope they don't resign him long term like the yanks did with posada

I doubt he'll get the years he got last time but he'll get paid... There is no catching right now anywhere. They don't see Kottaras as a viable option, they like Mark Wagner but he just got to AA this year.

Solid first outing off the DL for Big Z tonight. I guess the free preview of the MLB package Time Warner Cable was giving just ended at the beginning of this month. It was fun while it lasted. I loved being able to watch all the Cubs games that were not shown on WGN. I wonder if they'll ever offer WGN HD outside of the Chicago area?
