Wasn't it you wondering why so many people despise Red Sox fans?
I think it's incredibly boring to see the same teams win the playoffs. It's much more interesting when you have teams playing that most think are irrelevant. I don't think I'm the only one liking the Rays being ahead of the Red Sox.
No, doesn't really make a difference to me if someone hates the redsox or not...
Its funny but you never hear people bitch about ana or st louis...both those teams have won the world series this century. They both are in the thick of things more often then not at the end of the season, but some only point to the redsox and yanks as being the same teams every year. Minn has been in the post seasons play a lot the past 8 years, and they are usually in it come late sept. Why don't you hear for the royals, rangers or the orioles. Those teams have either never or not recently fielded a competitive team.
I really don't see having a team like colorado in the world series is going to bring in more viewers. Maybe more colorado viewers for the short term, but I highly doubt those band wagon fans from last year are all still there to support them this season. I don't know why for the redsox, but even before they won in 04, they have a large national fanbase. The yanks have a huge national fanbase. Yes, boston and NY are big tv markets, but so isn't LA, chicago and houston and when there teams were in the MLB playoffs/worldseries the numbers were down. Yes a sample of fans like yourself are happy that the redsox/yanks aren't there. But the simple fact of the matter is, the majority of people that would be willing to watch the world series don't agree with you. Ratings don't tell the same story that you are having. I agree, it could affect people to see 2 teams they never heard about in the world series and get them excited. The sad fact is the ratings don't support that.
And to make you point even more worthless, if the season ended today, the redsox would still be in the post season. You had stated that it is good to see other teams besides the yanks/redsox in the mix of things. That isn't the case as the redsox are heavily in the mix. They were the first to 50 wins, they are 4 back in the loss columm right now. They have played a lot more then the rays, and have played a lot more on the road then the rays.
Yes the rays are playing excellent baseball right now. At the begining of this season I said they would be a 3rd place, possible 2nd place team in the AL east and would give whoever wins the east a lot of problems. They have been a decent team for years, but they didn't have depth in starting pitching and there bullpen was atrocious. They ran all over the plays and played very good series in the past, but they usually wound up losing. This year they have pitching depth and still have the speedy offense. I still think that as they start playing more road games, they will fall off the high horse that they are on, and end up a 92 - 95 win team. They play 17 road games in the month of sept including boston and ny.
