arod is struggling with runners on base this year...but he did carry the yanks for almost 1/2 a season last year. In 2004, he batted .421 in the alds, and had 3 rbi's...tied for most on the team in the series vs the twins....in the alcs vs the redsox in the first 3 games he hit .429 with 3 rbi's or roughly 10% of the teams rbi production in the first 3 games. He was batting 2nd in both series and scored a shitload of runs. Yes he finished that series poorly, but the entire yankee lineup did as well. He is a great ballplayer, that goes through highs and lows. He is not a 25 mill per season player, But the entire clutch arguement is such bullshit. 2 years ago, gammons did some research on arods and jeters stats with risp with the yanks loosing, and they posted similiar #'s, arods was a tad better.
The only difference between the 2 is arod makes a shitload more, and he is not as likable as a personality as jeter. I don't hear people bitching about juicing giambi. He cost them 20 mill a season, and was expected to hit over .300 and hit at least 30 homers a season. I don't think he has done both of those things 1 x since being a yank, and last I checked his sorry ass choked last night as well.
As for manny the knock on him in recent years, is he is a bad pitcher making a mistake hitter. He doesn't hit the games elite pitching all that well anymore. I wouldn't want either manny or arod on my team as they both bring too much drama into the clubhouse. At this point, if forced I would chose manny over arod, but this offseason manny is looking for $25 for 4 years at his age, with the drama he brings to the team.
Manny also had the knock of driving in a shitload of runs in blowouts. Yes, manny did hit the NY yanks very well, and he did perform the past couple of post seasons.
