That was a fun one to watch, but what the hell was with that gay fish song when they were introducing the Ray's. I couldnt tell if it was over the PA or from the broadcast but if it was the former I would be embarrassed to be a Philly/Phillies fan.
Great, great game tonight. Lots of action, plenty of excitement...looking forward to Game 4.
The Rays better win game 4, AL needs to win.

i dont really know how possible it is, but Hamels had to pitch in shit conditions in the top of 6th and now they get to pitch in much better conditions for the bottom of the 6th. They really should have finished out the inning before they pulled the plug.

But they needed the game to be tied before delaying the game. If the Phillies scored a run in the bottom of the 6th the game would have had to continue anyways.

And it's lovely to know that the Phillies will win the WS through bullshit calls. Luckily no one is watching te games anyways so outcry should be kept to a minimum.

Yea, I heard the announcers talking about the pitching last night, commenting that Hamels had been credited with borderline strikes yet the Rays pitcher wasn't getting any of those calls.

The game has now been postponed until tomorrow.

What a weird set of circumstances. But it appears that the other two games are being pushed back by a day.

I guess it would have continued, technically. It would have just been put into a rain delay until it was good enough to play again. I would have felt so dirty if Selig even considered calling short a game of the World Series, specifically one that decided it.

I'm originally from Philly, and a huge Phillies fan, and I've felt very bad about how the umpiring has been. Yesterday it looked like he was calling a wide zone with almost no leeway high or low (IN the strike zone, not out of it).

I just try to convince myself that a blown balk call, or a missed strike leading to a walk early in the game does not cost a game. Sure, it can change the momentum greatly, but if the bad call in question was not made, that would affect every play after it (pitch selection may be different, etc.). I try not to say that a bullshit call decides a game or series unless it is a call that directly results in the conclusion of the game. But that's probably just because I'm a Phillies fan.

The bullshit calls play a part, but don't think that the Phillies have been completely gifted this 3-1 lead.

Ugh. If there is anyone outside of Philadelphia or Tampa Bay that cares about this series, it's going to be hard to maintain that interest. I just hope we get three innings of really good baseball.

whenever they play next will be much better conditions than last night, so Rays Defense will benefit from that extra half inning of good weather. Plain in simple. They should have at least allowed the Phils to bat in the 6th.

both sides getting bad calls, Myers phantom strike out that became a walk, and lets not forget the moyers to first play that ended up giving the rays 2 runs and preventing Moyer from getting the Win. Both sides are getting shit, so calm yourself.

The 3 innings should be interesting because who will the rays send to the mound. Will it be Price,Garza, or leave Balfour in there. Same with the Phillies who do they send up to the mound for relief..does Manual go for it all and just put in a starter there or does he stick with his bullpen and give it to lidge in the 9th. if i can get home ill be watching it obviously on a neutral stance lol...if you cant tell by my avy.

Just got back from Dick's Sporting Goods. Crazy is an understatement. They only had 4 registers open, so I got in a sort of hidden line that not many people saw while my dad got the shirts. Our total wait time was 30 minutes. By the time we left the store, the lines were to the end of the store and wrapping around. The estimated wait time to check out was 1 1/2 - 2 hours. People were screaming and going crazy. Some people were jumping up on the register counters to get pictures and when the workers brought out the shirts people were grabbing them out of their hands before the workers had a chance to put the shirts down. I never saw anything like it. There were still more people coming in and they totally were sold out of the hats by the time we left the store.

I'm glad the 25 years of Philly teams without a championship is finally over.

Congrats to the Phillies and their World Series win.

I'm sure a lot of Phillies fans are going to be calling off of work tomorrow. :D

Phucking Phillies.

Oh well, I had no real interest in either team. Must suck for Rays fans, being in the AL East who knows how long it will be before they make it back to the series.
Talk about a disappointing World Series, but the last Series wasn't any better.

Congratulations Phillies.
The past five have been pretty lackluster. The 2003 series was the last one to go past Game 5, which has made for some unexciting Fall Classics the last five years.
2008 the year that baseball died.
I'm tired of you bashing the Phillies. I don't get why you can't feel good for the Phillies and the fans. All of your recent posts in this thread are all about how this WS will suck, how the ratings are so low, and how you told us the ratings would be so low. Nobody gives two shits about the ratings except the three people working for Fox and the MLB because they can't add a few more million dollars to their 7 figure salaries. Is it because your precious team didn't make it? Well, there's more to life than baseball.

Congratulations to the Phillies. Though color me unimpressed by the 28 year wait, entire generations have not come and gone without seeing a Phillies championship.

Yeah a 28 year wait, aww poor Philly fans....

Seriously though congrats. That was a very impressive World Series run. I honestly though it would go 6 or 7 games no matter who won but Philly just took over and never let off the gas.

Some of the radio stations here in Kansas City were pulling for the Rays just because they were one of the major metropolitan areas that had gone longer without a championship in any pro sports. Now KC moves up the list...

28 years aint long, but 100 years if you combine all 4 major sports. Oh and after 126 years of phillies they have won 2, the marlins have won 2 and they have been around since like 15 years tops. Its a big deal.

I work right on South Broad street, so I'll try to post some pictures of the chaos. I should have post some of the aftermath I saw today a couple street lights missing, some uprouted trees, broken windows and a overturned car.

Go Phillies and the distruction of Philadelphia by the rioting hordes.

Most of my family lived and died without ever seeing the Red Sox win.

I'm also not too happy that the scumbag Brett Myers gets a ring. His wife's face will probably have the Phillies logo stamped all over it before too long. Did you guys catch his remarks about pitching in Boston?

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2008/10/myers_recounts.html
"I don't ever want to pitch in Boston again," said Myers, the Phillies' scheduled starter for Game 6.

Coming across as more defiant than contrite, Myers reluctantly spoke about the incident during which, according to the police report, he allegedly hit his wife in the face twice and dragged her by her hair on Boylston Street.

"I know there are people out there that think I'm a jerk. There are people out there who think I'm a wife-beater. That will never change," says Myers . . .

"But you know what, I really don't care what people think about me. … If people don't like me, they can deal with it. This is who I am."

Courtney Knight, a witness to the June 22, 2006 incident, said this to the Globe at the time:

"He was dragging her by the hair and slapping her across the face. She was yelling, 'I'm not going to let you do this to me anymore.' . . . He had her on the ground. He was trying to get her to go, and she was resisting. She curled up and sat on the ground. He was pulling her, her shirt was up around her neck. . . . He could have cared less that we were there."

The day after his arrest, Myers was the Phillies' starting pitcher at Fenway, and the fans' reaction, predictably, was less than welcoming. Myers told Nightengale said he heard vicious chants and was pelted with beer bottles and trash while warming up.

"What happened to me that day in Boston, on the field, I wouldn't wish that on nobody," Myers said. "It wasn't just the boos and the things people were throwing. It was just what people thought about me. I didn't have a chance to explain. My lawyers told me not to, so I couldn't talk.

"For me to even pitch that day was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do in life."

yea but you had the Pats and Celtics win. Thats why I feel no sympathy for Cubs fans, they had Jordan hand them 6 championships and they complain they are championship deprived.

Yeah, Brett Myers is the King of all Douches. I'm glad the Fenway fans let him know what a piece of shit he is. His wife is effing tiny. I wish tough guys who beat their wives would get the favor returned to them by people larger than them. I tried not to think of that jackass watching the WS.

And don't give me that legal crap about not being able to tell his story. Multiple witnesses saw him smacking her around. Its atrocious.
Congrats Phillies fans. Sucks no more baseball for awhile. :whistle2:(

Who's up for some free agency chatter..
Im up for FA chatter, and i cant wait till the Winter meetings. Minaya start running the ball because now the Phillies are way ahead of us and things need to change for the Mets.

what was even worse is how the the case was handled. They didn't need the wires testimony. They had seval eye witnesses and either photos or video of the incident and the Boston legal system treated the duche like he was royalty.
