The 2010 General Election Thread
It was indeed wrong of Clinton to lie under oath, but I think it's honestly excusable in this case considering how ridiculous the charges were. Who gives a fuck if he's an adulterer? He was a damn competent president and it did not get in the way of him doing his job.
I'm not one of those people who want to file charges against someone because of "the seriousness of the charge." I don't remember it that well to be honest, but I think it was because it occurred in the Oval Office, but I could be wrong. It's "in the workplace" I believe, and that's probably where it came from.

By the way, anybody else have a voting irregularity like I did?

My voting experience was smooth as silk. Walked down to the polling station. Waited in line for less than five minutes and was out of there in less than 15. I did have one woman that glared at me because she thought I took too long in the polling station.
We only went to Bosnia while Clinton was in office. I think stopping genocide was a noble reason to send troops.
We probably shouldn't have supported one side before coming in at the aid of the other. Kind of a pattern that we've been following for decades. It needs to stop.

Before you bring up half a dozen small engagements, please realize our military is ALWAYS fighting in half a dozen places around the globe.
Which I object to.

I'm talking about the meat and potatoes, full scale conflicts like Iraq and Bosnia.
Which I also oppose. Also, imposing sanctions and conducting bombing operations is warmongering. Furthermore, we prop up dictators, religious zealots, and military juntas with weapons, military support, and money, and leave places like Myanmar to rot. Foreign policy is more than full scale conflict.

During Clinton, we only went to Bosnia. I was in the military during Clinton and I only remember once that we were even close to invading Iraq.
We also imposed crippling sanctions and pushed bombing campaigns which killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens and helped radicalize parts of the middle east. I'm glad we didn't do anything while Clinton was president, though.

The President decided to drop cruise missiles on the instead.
I separated this from the rest of your post because it is an insane position to hold. "We didn't commit to total war, we decided to drop cruise missiles on them instead". It wouldn't be acceptable if another country dropped cruise missiles on Wyoming or the border with Mexico, and it certainly isn't acceptable when we do it around the world.

Memo to liberals:

Stop supporting retarded foreign policy when it is waged by democrats. Grow a spine and walk out on them when they conduct their own wars of choice.

Wait a minute. So we were just supposed to let the Serbs commit genocide because it was a foreign conflict?

I'm all about netrality but sometimes you gotta step in for the little guy.

Humanitarianism, delivered by government through threats of bombing attacks or war, is never a responsible way to enhance peace.

Yes, the violence towards ethnic Albanians was reprehensible. But so were the issues that were plaguing parts of Africa, East Timor, Tibet, Kurdistan, Myanmar, even parts of Central America and Mexico were flaring up. If we want to be an honest arbiter of peace, we need to stop supporting various sides and factions of just about every corner of the earth.

If all else fails, Europe can't help contain the problem, and there is genuine support from the public to commit to Albanians against the Serbs, Congress needs to take action, not the President. The only thing worse than waging war around the world is waging war around the world by the command of the Executive branch.

Can't wait to see the pundits accuse Obama of liberal overreach which enraged our center-right country and threw out Democrats.

Voted today in Ohio. I forget which race it was in, but I did see a Socialist candidate on the ballot.

I agree with that. Very well said.

Senator, sir.

How was your experience at the polls? I did absentee.

I had no problems. A corrupt democrat that was screwing with something election related a while back came in as I was leaving. The sad part is that my family has known him ever since I was born.

He was caught tampering with something in the township or county election a few months ago.
i voted this morning before work.

california is gonna screw us over today. lots of idiotic props on the ballot that will go the wrong way (ie not what i want). voted mostly 3rd party except for the big races (governor, house, senate). i wept a little when i voted for whitman.
What props are you against in our state?

Edit- just got back from voting (I live across the street from my polling place) and besides me and one other lady in a wheel chair, my polling place was empty sans staff. It was nice to have a choice of voting desk. Anyway my votes were for
Brown (D), I personally dislike Whitman due to her shenanigans with the illegal worker and subsequent handling of the situation. Brown is okay but I hope the next election better candidates run from both parties.

Boxer (D), I like Fiorina in her debates but her support of prop 8 and subsequent statements on it push me away from her.

Thompson (D), I like his stance on Veterans, and personally it was him or that madam from the Green party and I would rather not waste my vote.

Well, CNN already predicted 3 House races for the GOP. Dunno how they can do that with only 1% of returns in, but oh well.

Despite what people may/may not like, I'm sticking to Drudge Report. Drudge always gets the information before anyone else.

Only because he runs everything. Fact checking be damned.

I'm watching that shit on FOX News.

By the way, why the fuck does CNN think they should use the theme music for HBO's John Adams for their lead-in?

I am using Fox on the TV and CNN on the computer since their customization of result tracking is always excellent.

So did CNN, and they both picked Indiana to remain in the R column.

I'm sticking with my 56/6 prediction.

Luntz says he think Reid will win, but exit polls were even.

Also, a lot of the shifts should happen in the midwest.

Yeah, polls here closed at 7. I got there at 6:50 and voted. Was a line of 20 or so when I got there.

Kind of a moot vote for me as the Republican incumbent isn't really challenged for the GA senate seat, and I'm in John Lewis's district in the house and he's not challenged. State crap was the same, republican will win governor, the state house stuff my district is heavily democrat. So nothing national, state or local is a "swing state" in my district.

But I did my civic duty and voted anyway!

So it doesn't look like the Republicans will win the Senate. That would've been REAL fun to see. Nevada's going to be called around 1am or so I believe, because it seems real close. However, the House looks like it'll be a 55-57 gain for the Republicans.

The Governor's race of South Carolina looks to be really interesting right now.

Sigh, fucking Haslam won...

edit- I just realized who this guy reminds me of, Dana Carvey. He even sounds like him.

.... the woman on the local news is using an Ipad and some little paint program to demonstrate the republican/democrat split. A red 7 and blue 2, as if a whiteboard wouldn't have been just as effective.

Thankfully they don't make a gigantic iPad so Glen Beck will have to stick to the chalkboard.

So... my county is the only county in my district not to report ANYTHING so far... and, no, I'm not in Cuyahoga County where the idiots on the election board don't know how to run things.

Also, so far a convicted felon has 15% of the vote for my district's house seat...

O'Donnell is dead, Manchin called for WV, Blumenthal with a commanding victory in CT, Sestak holds a serious chance in PA. Not quite the bloodbath we thought it would be for Democrats, but the evening is still young.

fucking Wisconsin. Feingold was a great moderate.

Everyone keeps increasing the Republican house gain numbers. We've gone from 50ish to 60ish.

I'm honestly surprised Haslam won the Governorship here, despite being a usually red state, most of our Governors have actually been Democrat. Granted some of that is back during the dixiecrat era too.

They're already on about extending tax cuts for everyone and acting like the Democrats are preventing all of it.

Yeah , the American people have spoken and think that taxes are too high for the richest of the rich, sure.

Well, come January 1st, EVERYONE'S TAXES are going up, not just the richest.

Unless they do something during the lame duck period.

Yeah I know , but they're not just simply stating that. What will happen is the tax cuts will be extended for everyone because if the Democrats don't cave in then nothing will be done and they'll get blamed for everyone's taxes going up.

But they hate deficits. Can't wait to see how they reconcile that. Ahahahahah, we all know they don't give a shit.
It's election night and I still have no idea what the fuck the Tea Party is.
They're Republicans that realized what shitbags they were from 2000-2008 but don't want to take responsibility.

In 2018, Myke, Msut, and I are going to cosplay The Federalist Papers authors and pretend we didn't generally agree with Obama. It's gonna be the shit.

I can't wait to see our excited "new" political faction keep it real by sweeping aside all prior leadership. Make a clean break in the House and really start fresh. You know, cause both parties are the problem. Mmmmmhmmmm. I wonder how many will refuse to caucus with Republicans.

Congrats, Tea Partiers. Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.

If trends hold the GOP will lose it's 'Majority' Party status in Colorado by failing to get 10% in the govs race.

(although personally I don't like the idea of major and minor party status')
