Can I use the $5 monthly coupon on gift cards?

Yes you can in store but not online please note not all gift cards will apply to this rule.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free.
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

For me it did. I think you have spend $250 in cash. Since I used $700 in credit. I only spent about $35 so that's why I think they removed it. It was on my final checkout screen until I added the giftcards. At that point, I'm fully invested and have to make the purchase. I had a feeling it would be removed so it didn't bother me.
Gotcha, yeah it's not showing the discount at all for me anymore so it may have been fixed.

I took the chance and all 3 giftcards worked. With the 3 percent bonus for enabling text. I saved $122.35 plus the percent back on my card. Best deal I could I find. Order is confirmed and I did call the store when they opened to make sure. The spend 250 save 25 gets voided but still worth it if you want a pro day 1.
Personally, I would eat the cost upfront and use however much saved toward games instead. I'm a cheapassgamer, I would HATE missing out on the $25 off $250 if buying a console. Besides, you'd be getting more cashback paying more with your credit card. Right now, Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex are offering 5% cashback on all PayPal purchases. And you might get additional cashback if you use extensions like Honey, Rakuten, Capital One Shopping, etc.

I get it, FOMO is a very strong hallucinogen; however, maybe you shoulda considered adding some games from that pickup store to test if the $25 off $250 actually applies or not. Or instead spend $250 out of pocket rather than using the full amount to see if the promo triggers. When you think about it, you'd have $250 in credit reserved for Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals while also saving $25 along the way.

It seems optimistic to think that the BF deals will be good enough to drop $250 at GS.

Yeah, black friday deals are subpar from what I've seen for gamestop. B2g1 on pre-owned games is the best one. Otherwise mainly Funko, candy con, and that raptor 8 thing have promos. There is a promo coming up but getting an EA sports game for $25 with ps5 console purchase. No interest for me since I don't play sports games. Might be some general game sales for new titles as other stores will have.

There could be other worthwhile promos upcoming, but I lost my access to see upcoming promos, so I am in the dark again.

I personally bought ps5 pro at GameStop quickly to use up some trade credit. It is a bit worrisome to hold on to over $1k in trade credit.

It was actually pretty good last year! I remember the Callisto Protocol Collector's Edition without the game dropped to as low as ~$30 from ~$120 ($249.99 MSRP), and the Street Fighter 6 Collector's Edition dropped to ~$60 from ~$150 ($249.99 MSRP). Also bought a bunch of other regular games at up to 75% off thru Gamestop online. I vividly recall buying the Callisto Protocol (PS5) and Tales of Arise (PS4) games for only $5 each! I am more confident in individual game sales than pooling all of my hopes and dreams into one console and its related promos; basically, GS RNG seems better on the former than the latter.

I thought about it. So $25 off $250 is 10 percent. I saved more by using the credit. I got about 18 percent from buying off raise. The only thing that threw me off was when the 25 got voided i had to pay the rest with my card otherwise I would have bought the full amount in credit.

I bought in-store using trade credit, no $25 discount.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the $25 off $250 only applies if you place an order online first, then pickup at the store you plan to pickup from. The hurdle is only if they have +1 to inventory. I've been to a few brick-n-mortars myself last week, they have used games I wanted during B2G1F, but they were never shown to be available on the GS app. It's so fucking stupid that even with your paid membership, especially after the Pro price gouge earlier this year, they continue to restrict your access to buying their shit. The only improvement GS made is that they took away your entitlement to Game Informer as well as try to sell you the snake oil that is their proprietary credit card.

The $25 off $250+ promo works in-store as well for Pro members as well as for BOPIS orders. The PS5 Pro sku was add to the promo earlier this morning, but it appears they corrected it just before stores started opening.

Pros, Save $25 When You Buy $250+ in‑store or buy online & pick up in-store

By "corrected", you mean they've now excluded any newly made PS5 Pro orders from getting the $25 off?

Someone else mentioned before that you should get $25 off if you add eligible products to your order. The total counts towards the $250, the Pro is just not eligible for the discount.

It works in-store.

Bought the ps5 pro and a game and the employee scanned a code to use the $25 off a $250 purchase. It processed fine and the receipt shows a $25 discount under the ps5 and not the game.

Promo #30034 for those interested.

Did you do this very early in the morning?

Remember that Dollar General typically has 10~15% off GameStop gift cards around this time of year. So before you go after sketch sites, consider that approach.
Formerly Raise is actually good normally. On the off chance you get a bad card they have always quickly refunded. Whereas stores almost never take responsibility for gift cards even activation with the full balance properly.

Ah damn, didn't realize they had to scan something. Oh well, thanks for posting

A bit off topic:

I put a good chunk of my money on the 2024 election. It was a good turnout for a former President that almost lost his life.

I'm currently gaming on the PS5 slim as the primary console. I still don't want or need a PS5 pro at this point...

If you use a gift card for an order and the order gets cancelled, I believe I had seen on here that it's a PITA to deal with as GameStop doesn't refund the funds back to the gift card automatically?

Was going to order a PS5 disc drive, and wanted to use gift cards to pay for it, but don't want to have to fight Gamestop to get a refund.

They will send you the refund on a new card through the mail

Thanks.

Edit:
Having weird issue (this is GS, so maybe just par for the course), but at checkout it keeps defaulting to my old address (even though I updated it under my profile).

On mobile when I click checkout, it then goes to a page that says my cart is empty. Doesn't matter what item I add.

If you use Store Credit to fully pay off a game in store, you don't get hit with the sale tax, correct?

Just confirming if this is still the case at Gamestop. I got my PS5 Pro and gonna trade-in my OG PS5. Looks like the best deal currently is either: 1) Back Market for $280 cash, or 2) Gamestop Store Credit for $275. Leaning towards GS since I can get the credit immediately, but I don't currently have GameStop Pro membership, so that will eat into the return a bit.

It must depend on where you live, as I've paid off stuff fully with credit for years now and I've always had to pay tax.

FYI though, the $25 promo (I think it ends tomorrow though) will literally pay for the membership while still giving you the same amount of credit you'd be getting anyways, so if you're choosing Gamestop I would use that opportunity to sign up if I were you.

Anecdotal for sure but when I picked up my PS5 pro on Thursday evening the employee thanked me because I was the first person picking up a pro that hadn’t traded in a regular PS5 at the time I was picking up the pro.

Like I said, purely anecdotal and speculation on top of that but it seems like maybe some analyst got it right that people would be trading in PS5s for the pro even without a trade-in bump or deal.

I think it depends on state. Here in MN, I used to not be taxed for pure trade credit transactions, but it changed a year or so ago, so now taxed regardless of payment type.

If anyone is curious on GameStop closures, I put together a simple page displaying all store locations data with current status. It's up-to-date as of a couple weeks ago for sure, but store locator data tends to be delayed for displaying store closures. There seems to be a 2-3 week delay. I don't have dates of when stores closed, but future store closures might have that data, at least date for when I find the status has changed.

Current US store count is 2734, 249 stores closed over the past couple years. Still a lot of stores left.

2 quick questions. Did the 25 console bump end early? I don’t see it on site.
Can you still buy Apple with TIC? I did it a couple months ago but someone on reddit said you can’t now.

as far as the extra $25 sure looks like it ended, banner on the trade in page is gone and nothing on the main page. apple gift cards with TIC i don't know about, i thought they were killed back with amazon, shell and the others..

No Apple definitely worked long after Amazon. I’m hoping it’s just a Reddit idiot.

It worked for me about 2 years ago, but hadn't tried since. They used to have it available on the website, but it's been gone for awhile.

I had assumed it still worked since Apple GC could technically be considered gaming currency since they had their arcade thing or whatever it is.

I've got a PS5 Slim Anniversary and Portal Anniversary coming, what are the odds GS does a good trade-in offer for a original PS5 (from the bundle that had Horizon FW digital copy) and Portal?

I'm debating if I could just eBay them for more (likely get more $ since I got the original packaging/wires/everything) vs what GS might potentially offer in a trade in (no hassles of eBay).

portal has taken a dive TIV wise. during pro week they were giving nearly $150 with the extra 10%, now it's down to $80 base. I wasn't checking before so I don't know if it is at a historical low now or if those were historical highs during that promo. i still think the ps5 will rebound value wise after black friday.

Sell on eBay then get hit with a chargeback months later for whatever crummy reasons by your scum buyer. You'll lose more than what you want to save.

Darn.... that would have been nice. Maybe they'll do something post holidays when they need to re-fill their stock.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm afraid of... I've sold some pricey stuff on ebay and haven't really had any issues though. I'm just trying to get an idea of the difference between cash from eBay after their insane fees vs GS trade credit which is frankly devalued quite a bit since GS prices suck and you can't use their GCs on other GCs anymore- just trying to weigh the risk vs reward.

Insane to think about doing business where said fees fail to protect sellers.
