I'll be watching 5cm per second in beautiful high-def this weekend, when I'll finally get a reprieve from the insane amount of school work I've had.
Are we ever gonna get Galaxy Express 999 on dvd?
That was actually the first anime I ever saw. I believe it started my love for it. Saw Adieu Galaxy Express 999 shortly after. It's probably been well over 10 years since I've seen either.

Also, what series are related?
I have vol. 2-6 of Galaxy Railways. (need to get vol. 1 w/box)
I think my friend (ex friend) has Queen Emeraldes VHS.
Yeah I wish they would release Galaxy Express over here on dvd. If you haven't seen it, you should get a copy of Arcadia of my Youth, to my mind its the best Matsumoto (GE999 creator) anime work that has actually been released on dvd in the US. It is the origin story for Captain Harlock.

Same here. I remember seeing them both on the Sci-Fi ch back in the day.

I'm so sad that I'ven't seen this. I saw the first episode fansubbed way back when, but then it was licensed so I stopped watching. Then, I ordered it from deepdiscount during one of those 20% off sales only for it to be discontinued while it was backordered. I still hold out hope that someone will rerelease it, or I'll pay the exorbent prices on eBay.
I've only seen the first four episodes of Desert Punk, but I really enjoyed what I saw. Now that I have the complete set from Best Buy, I'll watch it soon.

In regards to crude humor, I tend to agree with you. I don't like most of the live-action stuff with crude humor, but anime I enjoy for some reason. Goldenboy and Shin-Chan are two great examples of crude humor shows that I find hilarious. Shin-Chan is just so wrong sometimes, but I can't stop laughing.
Yeah, if you liked the first four episodes then you are really going to like what's to come. I should probably look into buying the Desert Punk set soon too because that show is too awesome not to own.

Haha, that is cool that you were able to decipher my vague reference to those crude films in the theaters. I wasn't sure if I was being too vague, but I couldn't think of another way to word it. Hmm, Golden Boy looks interesting and Shin Chan looks odd?

Well, I bought the Gantz complete set. The premise sounds intriguing and I am always someone who likes to see something controversial just so I can know which side I fall on.

Finally, I started Noein tonight. I was able to finish the first disc, which contains the first five episodes. I am really liking it a lot. So far it just keeps getting better and better.

I actually bought the DVD version a few months ago when rightstuf had an ADV sale and was able to get it for about $15. I'm happy that I did because now I don't have to deal with the ebay nonsense.

I'm also hoping for a re-release of this movie, but I want it in Blu-Ray, along with all of Shinkai's other films, but I know that most likely won't happen.

Good luck finding a copy of your own, it really is a great movie.
I'll be watching 5cm per second in beautiful high-def this weekend
Are you watching a 1080p fansub or the DVD? This movie is so good, but so sad

Well, I watched the last episode of 00 2nd season and... meh?

It was ok, not the greatest nor the worst. That whole mini time skip could've been handled a little differently I thought. Well, looks like I'll have to wait until 2010 for the movie. I honestly don't know what else they can come up with other than 2 hours of filler-ish movie.

nice. i'm amazed how good that movie looks, really nice art.

ehh it followed the manga at the beginning then just went off the reservation, was disappointing to me, but to each their own.
ehh it followed the manga at the beginning then just went off the reservation, was disappointing to me, but to each their own.
I don't want any spoilers; I am just wondering whether you were disappointed because it was different from the manga or if it was disappointing because the quality of this new direction was lackluster.

Oh I forgot; I watched Ghost in the Shell 2 a couple of days ago. I really like it, but it did not give me the same feeling of awesomeness that the first movie gave me. Netflix shipped me the Dreamworks DVD of the movie and I have been reading that that version is horrible; the superior version is supposed to be the versions with the English dub like the Blu-ray version. I have to agree though that the subtitles were atrocious on the Dreamworks version because it had the hard for hearing stuff with the regular subtitles! Also, it was difficult sometimes to understand who was talking. There were a lot of points in the movie where I got completely confused; I think the cause of that confusion is those subtitles. However, I hope this version didn't ruin the movie for me for whenever I get around to seeing the Blu-ray version.

Now, tonight I watched Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. This is my third Miyazaki movie; the other two were Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away—both of which I absolutely love. I loved Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. The movie is amazing; the movie is 25 years old and it still has themes that hold true today—the horrible nature of human beings, violence, and the environment (I couldn't word that list right). I felt that every aspect of the movie was stellar. This is at the top with Spirited Away as one of the best movies I have ever seen—it has been a very long time since I have seen Princess Mononoke so I don't have a fresh mind of it and if I would think it is one of the best movies.

My next Netflix movie is going to be Howl's Moving Castle.

Both the manga and the anime are fairly lackluster, but because the anime decided to go off and do its own thing, I guess that made it slightly worse. They're both pretty stupid and juvenile, though.

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed Nausicaa so much! I suggest hunting down the manga, which goes far above and beyond what the movie covers. It's probably among my top three manga of all time.

Hmm, well I am not hyping up Gantz to be something of anything; I feel indifferent right now. I guess I will see how it is when it arrives.

Funny you should mention the Nausicaa manga; I am looking at it right now on Right Stuf. This looks awesome; plus it is more Nausicaa! Hmm, I probably shouldn't buy anything else this month because I have already spent plenty of money. Ah who cares! I ordered all seven volumes! Woo hoo!

Awesome! You're going to be really impressed with those books - they're larger than most manga, about the size of American graphic novels. The art is also some of the most detailed I've ever seen in the manga world, and you can really see the amazing effort that Hayao Miyazaki put into drawing them. It took him 12 years to finish the series!

That is amazing; 12 years is a long time. I have been reading that the story is much larger in the manga than in the movie, which sounds awesome. I cannot wait; hopefully they don't take too long to arrive.

The movie covers most of the material from the first two books, so yeah, there's much more to the story in the manga. The movie also has a different ending, of course. Huzzah, another Nausicaa fan!

That will depend on if these rumors have any truth to them, the ship the purple Haro came from in the past ( in one scene that was never really explained why it was important) was in truth attacked by aliens, if they go that route the movie would be pretty unique since Gundam doesn't normally tackle that. At the very least I expect to movie to flat out say what an Innovator really is because the series sure as hell didn't

FYE can special order it. Last time i checked it was only $14.99 including the special order deposit

Sorry Lemon, I forgot. It's been a decade, forgive me. I do remember when I said that after seeing it and everyone tried to deny it so epically hard.

Massive backflipping hi-5 to DarkSageRK for speakin' the truth!

Miyazaki is always playin' at being deep without actually ever challenging your expectations or perceptions of anything. I'm not saying that things have to do that to be good, but at least quit acting like I'm supposed to be so impressed with your story.

Is it supposed to be deep? I never thought they were deep. I always saw it as the Disney of Japan. Without the endless sequels and the theme parks. I saw a bunch of them in my HS Japanese classes without subtitles. So that might make a bit of difference.

Also what's going to be good this season? Besides FMA?
Also what's going to be good this season? Besides FMA?
A fair number of people I know are going to use this season to catch up on the last one. It's not exactly shaping up to be a great season. :X

April 3, 2009 - FUNimation Entertainment has acquired the rights to Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

Starting Thursday, April 9 at 10:00 a.m., FUNimation will deliver high-quality, free, original-Japanese-dialogue-accompanied-by-English subtitles, streaming episodes of studio Bones' new Fullmetal Alchemist via www.funimation.com, as well as key video-sharing partners.

The blockbuster anime series, which ran from 2003-2004, is based on the manga by Hiromu Arakawa. The follow-up film Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa ended the series but many fans wished to see the story continue, hence the Brotherhood entry was born.

"We are proud to be able to simulcast the most anticipated series of 2009," said Gen Fukunaga, president and CEO of FUNimation Entertainment. "I hope our fans will appreciate the video and subtitle quality we have achieved as we are working toward the simulcast of more series this year."

Stay tuned to IGN DVD for more information on Alchemist and its future releases.
So brotherhood is a continuation of the "alternate" story version of FMA , not the remake series thats supposed to more closely follow the manga correct?
I'm pretty sure there's only one new FMA series coming and this is it. Funi is just trying to sideline the fansubbers.

When the first FMA was airing, Funi sent out cease and desist emails/letters to the various fansubbing groups. I like this newer approach, though I'm sure they'll be cutting the free airing and begin charging for online rentals like they do with their other shows.

I was more referring to the rumors of the FMA remake , although maybe this was what that was talking about. Maybe I'm just confused.:dunce:

You're not alone.

The anime didn't really divert from the manga until a few episodes in (it's been a while since I watched/read, so I won't hazard a guess on the exact episode). Brotherhood is reported to be a remake of the series that will more accurately follow the manga. I wish it were more a continuation as I'd love to
see what Ed and Al do in the "real" world.
New FMA! However, some of the characters look a little off.. especially Mustang. He doesn't look (or sound) as cool as the original series.
They look closer to their manga counterparts, if anything. Totally agree about Mustang's voice being inferior, but Kimbley was much improved at least.

I enjoyed the first episode a lot. For a series that's supposed to follow the manga more closely, it was strange to create a completely new story, but I understand why they did it. A rehash of the first episode of the previous series would have been a bit dull for a debut episode.

So the first series started out like the manga and ended differently and the second series will start out differently and end like the manga?
So the first series started out like the manga and ended differently and the second series will start out differently and end like the manga?
Uh... yeah, basically. The first series had all sorts of changes and new content, even early on. But only the first episode of this new series was a non-manga story. I'm expecting it to follow the manga from here on out.

the beginning of the first FMA was pretty faithful to the manga.. they're just gonna remake those episodes? seems dumb

is the new ippo out yet? been away from anime for a while

I just finished JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. It looks pretty good for being 16 years old. Who doesn't love ZA WARUDO?!?

I continue barreling through anime from Jump Ultimate Stars...

I did give a quick watch of Sakigake!! Otokojuku but it is from 1988 and doesn't hold up nearly as well. Still I was curious to see a bit about Edajima and Momotaro.

I have a few things lined up...perhaps Ninku will be next.

While I don't like the new Mustang voice at all, Kimbley definitely sounds improved. But more importantly I'm glad that they got the same people to do Maes and Armstrong. Those two have such distinctive personalities that I don't know how different voice actors would have kept them like that.

I watched the first episode of Kiba yesterday and it has got my interest. I went in rather skeptical, but gave it a shot anyway, and I like it.
http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2009/04/08/hollywood-grabs-ninja-scroll-full-metal-panic/

FMP and Ninja Scroll live-action movies... Huzzah!
Ninja Scroll could be awesome live-action. All Japanese cast? I believe in you DiCaprio! :grouphug:

FMP will need a much more delicate touch. I wonder how they'll fit the comedy/school elements with the mecha action... and who will play Chidori? I think Efron is not bad casting, he actually kind of looks like Sousuke.

God I hope these don't suck.

You gotta hope they don't become the abominations all these recent movie adaptations are.

DiCaprio sounds like he knows what he's doing, just gotta believe!

I watched Howl's Moving Castle the other day. Haha, this is getting redundant; yup, it was amazing and I loved it. So yeah, Miyazaki strikes again—well for me at least. You know, the animation and style of the world really reminded me of Professor Layton, which I thought was kinda cool.

Also, I finished episode 11 of Noein, which is amazing as well. I love the characters and the animation is different from what I am use to seeing; it is different in a really good way. Plus I really like the science fiction angle and the quantum craziness.

Then I got Gantz in the mail. I plan on starting that after I finish Noein. Maybe I should watch the first episode just to see what it is like since I am really curious.
