"The American Dragon" Bryan Danielson Wrestling Thread

IMDB is not very reliable. And the Oscars (1) aren't a big deal, and (2) Rourke had stiff competition that he was a super long shot to win over anyway.

He did a great job acting in The Wrestler, but there's nothing that really says he deserved it over the other 4.
Let me be the first to say...

The Academy didn't screw Mickey Rourke.

Mickey Rourke Screwed Mickey Rourke.

Although its been said too many times already , but that survivor series had to be one of the most surreal moments ever. You don't see PPV events like that where something just unbelievable happens.

So I watched that HHH interview this afternoon on the ride home - it's really strange. It seems like he studied up on the kind of promo he wanted to cut, and executed it really well. But I can't get over the feeling that it's just a trillion kinds of horribly corny. I don't care to see HHH/Orton. I do care to see Stephanie get a million more RKOs, though.

Lemme predict Jericho's promo tommorow night....
As you see... the voters of the Academy Awards listened to me last week and did not vote for Mickie Rourke for Best Actor Of The Year because just like all of you he is a hypocrite and a liar. He does not represent what a true 100% atheletic wrestler of today is which is when you look at me I am all of that and so so so much more. I beat what you fans keep calling two of the best in this industry in the same night as in The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. I have made men jealous of me and women want to punch me. This is fact and that is something each and every one of you rather if you want to admit it or not.... will have to deal with.
... or something like that.

Flair's going to be at Raw tomorrow, right? So is Undertaker.. and Triple H..

cripes, it's going to be an awesome night in Nashville.
On an unrelated note, I was cleaning around my room and found an old USPS flat rate envelope from something Saucy Jack mailed me at one point and it does have a return address. This was from three years ago, though. I wonder if he still lives there. I may send a CAG business card to that address.
Let us know if you hear anything. Have fun at RAW tommorow night too. Taker's entrance in person is phenominal to say the least.

It's happened before though. The WWE, more or less, did the same thing to Wendi Richter and to Sable. Actually Richter got it worse then anyone. She walked right into a full start-to-finish shoot.

I used to think Bret Hart was an asshole, but after reading his book I must say that my opinion of him has... remained totally the same. He's one of the most wretched beings to ever step into the wrestling business, and that's saying something. A selfish, self-righteous, self-serving prick who likely would be as dangerous as Chris Benoit if he hadn't been struck down by a stroke.

I went to a Raw house show back in '96, I think.. the main event was Undertaker vs. Lawler in a steel cage.. or maybe it was Bret Hart. Or maybe it was Hart vs. Lawler and UT faced someone else that night.. it's been a while, I don't remember.. anyway, I was near the entrance, and it actually does get a lot colder when he comes out. It's pretty crazy.

I had a dream I met Ric Flair last night. It's the only wrestling related dream I've had, except one when I was a kid where I was tag teaming with Hogan and taking on Ultimate Warrior and IRS. It was pretty realistic.. except the seats were ungodly far away from the ring, maybe half a mile in the sky (Think of that one episode of Rocko's Modern Life where they get cheap seats).

Anyway, it should be a great show, especially considering it's the Road to Wrestlemania. The main event being advertised locally is Orton vs. Cena, but that may be a dark match.

When I was *really* young, I went to see one of the Undertaker's first matches in the WWE. He was wrestling Tito Santana I think. He was a heel. He got basically NO reaction. But not in a bad way. As in everyone in the place was like... scared.

I miss that Undertaker.

That said, I've been to Wrestlemania 19 and I've been to countless Raws, Smackdowns, Nitros, and other assorted pay per views. Funny enough, the biggest pop I've ever heard was just a couple weeks ago at a very small (relatively speaking) house show in Kennewick, WA where I live.

It was Big Show & Kozlov vs. Undertaker & Triple H. Only about 5,000 people in the Toyota Center here, When Triple H came out, the place went nuts. When Undertaker's gong went off, it made my ears ring. They didn't stop ringing the entire ten minutes or whatever of the 'match' they half assed. But that pop was deafening. Maybe it was louder because it was a smaller venue, but it loud.

Coldest moment was at Wrestlemania 19, when Brock botched the Shooting Star Press. Everyone with a seat where they could see the angle he hit at went numb. I'll never forget it. A guy a few seats away from me said "he's dead or paralyzed." Just simply said it, and I could hear him say it. It got that quiet.

I remember our last RAW show Back in September had a dark match advertised between (I think) Jericho vs HBK. Instead we got an extended DX promo since they did a one night surprise reunion at the end of that RAW. I might have my cellphone shot of that promo on my phone still as well.

That had to be one of the most painful looking screw-ups ever (that I can remember). That along with Sabu's neck break.
Rourke didn't win because he teased wrestling at Wrestlemania.

Plain and simple.

Right as the voting started to begin in fact.

The Academy pictured in their mind's eye Rourke accepting the award and cutting a promo on Chris Jericho.

And that cost him dearly.
No. Mickey Rourke lost because Sean Penn was playing a homosexual icon.

I can't be too pissed about Rourke losing (or the Wrestler not winning anything), as it was pretty freaking cool to see Necro put over huge in a skit...and to see a staple gun spot on prime time network TV.

You know, the fact that Brokeback Mountain didn't win I think shoots down that theory.

But it's okay for Rourke. If Brokeback Mountain taught us nothing else, it's that there's nothing wrong with coming in number two. :D

In Your House 13: Final Four - Undertaker vs. Vader vs. Bret Hart vs. Austin in a bloodbath.

Awesome match. I actually randomly watched the 1997 Royal Rumble over the past couple days so this followup was very welcome. I don't think the match was so much a bloodbath as it was 4 genuinely tough MFers beating the shit out of each other. It was almost like you could feel how frustrated they all were at Shawn Michaels "losing his smile". I couldn't remember the ending until it happened which was nice.

I'll try and remember to download the Kobashi/Hansen match tonight if it's still available.

^ soopa cool! Now I can watch all of Raw without having to download the dang thing, seeing as how we're watching heroes again.

Almost typed 'herpes' by accident. Not a fun show, I swear.

To stay off topc for a little bit longer, BM was for Best Picture, the big kahuna of the Oscars. Best Actor was an opportunity for them to reward a "brave" performance. Sean Penn is the darling of the Academy and him playing a homosexual is catnip for them. A lot of people saw The Wrestler as Mickey Rourke playing a version of himself (which isn't withour merit). Penn has learned that you don't go full retard but you do go full homo.

Enough of that. Back to the rasslin!

-- In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Hulk Hogan reveals that he was asked to play the lead character in The Wrestler. Hogan claims he was sent the script and considered for the part of Randy "The Ram" Robinson. He read it a few times when it crossed his agent's desk, but passed on the movie. Nonetheless, Hogan believes Mickey Rourke did a great job in the film.

"The movie got made and they cast Mickey Rourke," Hogan said. "I thought he did a great job."

While Hogan was complimentary of Rourke, he wishes Rourke could have had 30 years of wrestling experience to tell a more accurate story.

"I don't think the public could have handled it, though," Hogan told the Los Angeles Times. "Just made me realize after seeing the movie with Mickey Rourke that if someone does the real Hulk Hogan movie, you better hang on for the ride, brother."

does anyone else believe that Hogan being offered the role is complete and utter bullshit? can he please just fuck off for christs sake... he goes to FCW and teases showing up to leave fans either disappointed or not caring, tells paparazzi that they "just missed" him making out with pam anderson, and now this.... its fucking sad to see him so starved for attention.

When he's talking about a guy who blades 30 times a week, he's talking about Ed Leslie using one to cut his coke into lines

Whole bunch of pictures from PWG's event this past weekend. Included are Austin Aries and his ridiculous pornstache and Warzone CAW tights, Chuck Taylor and his SFIV tshirt (and HADOUKEN finisher), Paul London looking like Keanu Reeves, the return of Colt Cabana, and Chris Hero sporting the worst ring gear since, well, his last outfit of Superman pajamas - if you own stock in boatneck spandex, Chris Hero would like a sponsorship.

Next show is March 15th in either Burbank, CA (yay for big venues) or Reseda, CA (yay for cheap beer).

live at tapings.. swagger vs christian for ecw title..
swagger with a clean win.. wtf.. christian looks like he injured his left forearm.. though that caused him to lose the match so it may have just been a work

Not really, because the Academy gave the Best Picture award to Crash that year. And Ang Lee won Best Director.

They love to award 'position' pieces, plain and simple.

jamie noble is hurt really bad. that is why jericho is on the ramp for this segment. noble has not moved since knox laid him out. many emt workers are out. he is slowly being put on a stretcher.. he is hurt bad

That's not good.

The announcers sounded extra concerned after the Steamboat segment, and Michael Cole isn't that good of an actor, so yeah, seems like something really is wrong

EDIT:They just cut to a live shot of the arena extremely dark in mid-commercial now as well.

I hope Noble is okay. He's a solid wrestler to have, and a helluva nice guy. Thanks for the headsup, Scorch.

Jericho's promo was awesome, and I was salivating at the idea of Jericho/Steamboat. :droll:

At least, much more than Jericho/Rourke or Jericho/Hogan.
This chase is hilarious.
I must say, i missed everything on Raw EXCEPT that, and I am very glad I decided to watch the last 5 minutes. Wow .

I said the Shane and Orton first encounter needed Benny Hill music.......I stand corrected this segment not having benny hill music was criminal

also I was hoping after Legacy ran out of that dressing room. It would cut back to HHH running back into the hallway past cryme tyme and after HHH was gone, "Cryme Tyme" looks up and its actually Ted jr and Randy Orton.

That's a little too "Soul Man," I'm afraid. Having them run past, say, Rosa Mendez and Beth Phoenix, only to have Triple H run by them again later with Rhodes and DiBiase dressed up like the two ladies would have been hilarious.

But, then again, WWE's trying to go with "serious" here, despite the fact that it's pretty much been a slapstick angle since Randy first punted Vince.

Agreed.

Perhaps, HHH getting his pants ripped off at some point exposing his heart boxers....ok too far.

Next swerve, Orton using no unlocked safety exits at the arena as a way of getting out of the match with HHH.

good to hear they addressed it. it reminded me very much of what i assume owen's fall was like from the pictures i saw.. referees running back and forth to the back, many emt's standing over him. a jamie chant was started in the arena. they had him moving his legs a little but otherwise he did not move at all.

they did have a dark match: cena vs. edge for the title. predictably, cena won via dq because of big show.

so no one watched RAW? Amazing how they can go from one week where everyone can't wait to see what happens on Monday after Edge wins the title, to the next week where there is hardly any activity in this thread.

I took a few pics from my cell phone.. they came out alright, I won't bore you with any of them, but here's a picture I snapped of them working on Noble while Ricky Steamboat was coming out to the ramp. You can see the stretcher by the ramp as well.
