Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
Eh, shit happens and I'd be laughing just the same if the situation were reversed. I deserve a good roasting for wasting spare cash, but as I recall most of the worthwhile titles posted in this and the GS thread were nowhere near to be found in the locations I had time to check out anyway. And without a proper list I would have lost MORE money to begin with. Besides sooner than later I would have blown the cash on something else or had to bail someone out of a jam with it so I'm not crying over it. Oh, and you're right. I do plan on recooping my losses and making good on this utter debacle if GS ever starts their B2G1 special. Hopefully by then I'll have better luck in terms of selection from BB.

So is anyone going to answer my dupe title question or is it manager's choice like I assume? I'd rather not waste time and gas because I'm almost sure I saw at least a couple copies of FF in the TRU I hit yesterday. I just hope it wasn't for 360. >_>

Also... does anybody know how old the systems are at most BB locals?
Its 100% up to to the manager at the store.

EDIT: On a sidenote I hit up a BB I hadnt been to yet and hit a nice load of the right games to flip to GS. Got 10 of them including an EDF, 3 S:FoF, 3 Golden Compasses, Spidey 3, and a VT3 and Shrek the 3rd.

Gonna go turn them into GS here in a bit. I also found a GS that had 6 SST for Wii (not great but solid), a couple of FF:ROTSS (yeah none of my TRU has them damnit you lucky bastards), and some sonic riders and fatal intertia.

...Great. Well that sucks. I guess as a general rule of thumb in the future I'll cap at 2 per location until I luck out with a slack manager. Thanks. Wait... how much does Shrek go for at GS and for what system? The last BB I went to had a copy.
Over 1K in GS credit! We may have to start calling you Kunaio.
Well, like I said only $500-somthing of that is from the current promo. I had a bunch left over from the trade 2 Wii games get any new one free promo last summer. I milked that for all it was worth (ended up with a bunch of preorders most of which I ended up cancelling). Plus I had credit even before that from deals 2 years ago. I've always conserved my GS credit and used BB or GC credit when possible. I guess now I should start spending it since I have more there than BB and GC combined.

Note that I also tend not to do the reverse flip (GS -> BB) nearly as much as others here, so I keep adding to my GS total ;).

First post is your friend.
I have 1 copy of FF RoSS. PM me what you would give up. Mostly looking for 360 games.
By the time the person gets the game, it would have dropped already (probably Tuesday).

I've had the worst luck with BBV ran into an employee today and asked her to trade in some games. She went ahead and scanned my card and said that I don't have a trade in account. I told her I frequently rent from the other BBV next to my house and make trades there also.

Then she goes on saying that I can only open 1 trade account per store. Wtf kind of policy is that? I looked at the name and saw manager under in yellow, how the hell did she even become store manager? In the end she also said I can only have the credit on my account. I just took the credit.

$5 for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer at Toys R Us
Trade in FF: RoSS to Blockbuster for $30
Buy four copies of Meet the Robinsons for $27.96 at Blockbuster
Trade in those four copies to Gamestop for $42

Is that what your supposed to do? As an example, they probably won't have that many Meet the Robinsons.

1) Never tell them you do any trading anywhere else - that can set off the Junior Detective alarms and they may call the other store to see what you are trading.

2) I'm even sure what the problem is. She said "1 trade account per store". Why is that a problem? That's all you need . Then, apparently, she did start up a new trade account for you. I guess I don't see the problem there. Keeping the credit on the account sucks, though, unless you plan to pick up GS flippables there anyway (or preorder something). To be nice at my local store I had started keeping trades on the account. But since they didn't get Lost Planet Colonies (while every other BB did) I haven't wanted to do that as much. But now they are used to me keeping it on the account so they just do it automatically. Yeah, I could stop them, but I don't want to trigger any JD activity. I'm sure there will be something I can buy there eventually and if it makes them happy to keep the credit there then so be it.
$5 for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer at Toys R Us

Well, sure, except you are likely to find either 0 or 1 copies of MtR at any given store. They all seemed to have converted 1 rental copy for sale. I'm basing this on the fact that I have seen exactly 1 copy at each of the 4 or 5 stores I've gone to in the last few weeks. They may have more from trade-ins of course, but in general most regular (non-GR) blockbusters don't have a lot of trade-ins and thus most of their used game stock consists of former rental copies.

But there are other games that will get you a bit more than even money: Beautiful Katamari, Virtua Tennis 3, EDF. Just look at the list in the OP. Of course, you may only have 1 more day to do this if the GS deal really ends tomorrow (let's all hope it gets extended).

Now, it may not be worth it at all for you to convert the credit back to GS. I do it because all the BB's near me are non-GR and only carry the few select new games that non-GR stores carry. Except for the surprise of Blast Works at $10 less than retail, they haven't had much in recently that I wanted to buy. But if you want something like Madden or NCAA Football just preorder it at BB and don't worry about the GS flipping.

-----------------

Oh, by the way, I did make some trades yesterday and got some quotes too.

:wii:
FF:RSS $30 (duh)

:ps3:
Genji $13

:360:
NCAA Football 08 $12

I also got a quote for Moto GP '07 at $8 (I think?). So I took that to GS where I got $12.70 after bonus+Edge. Also, interestingly enough, they were unable to accept the original Lost Planet at BB. So I guess the trade-in on that is $0. That is very odd. I took it to GS and got $10.50 for it. Funny thing - I had originally bought that for $5 as part of my one single 5 for $25 transaction way back when. I never got around to playing it and when I bought Colonies (from Blockbuster) I figured I had no need for the original and might as well get something for it.

So either they decided they wouldn't take the original at all any more because of the new one (very forward thinking for BB and quite surprising) or they somehow flagged on my account that I had bought it before. But no, because I had no problem trading Cars there which I also bought using that coupon... So it must be the first reason - they figure it is obsolete with the new one out.

The "limited" one is pretty much this...

Well all done the guy at toysrus actually help 3 Silver Surfers for me instead of 2. I also got price adjustments for ALL my clearance purchases. So all in all 8 Silver Surfers; 8*4=spent $32 ---> 8*30= $240 BB credit.. Thats makes me feel guilty but thats the life of a flipper lol. I need to wait for another deal at gamestop to transfer credit is a downfall but 32--->240 is worth it.

Wait, did the Silver Surfers actually adjust automatically to $4 or did they override it? When I tried yesterday they said it was still coming up $5 (while Far Cry did adjust to $4 so they were doing something right).

Well, in any case I'm heading to another momentarily so I'll find out I guess.

Also, I was finally able to find an American Idol bundle for $24.98 ($14.98 AC) at Target. Hs anyone traded that in during this cycle (ie, since Tuesday)? I don't want to open it before I'm sure. And no, I can't call because my family is yelling at me right now to get in the car ;). I'll call tomorrow if no one can confirm it before then.
$5 for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer at Toys R Us
Trade in FF: RoSS to Blockbuster for $30
which platform is bb buying for $30? i'ma kick myself if it's the 360 version.

I don't know really, she had a list of the games that qualify for the 20% off. She did say not all games qualify. I bought monkey ball and silver surfer yesterday which rang up $5. I got them price adjusted today for $4 each. But to really answer your question i bought 3*silver surfer today and they rang up $12 all together automatically. So you should get the price adjustment.

I am going to feel so guilty when I start trading in games to my local blockbuster. I've gotten to know the manager and he is a really cool guy. I guess I'll try to limit my flipping there and go to the other store around me that I don't really care about.
i'd ride my bike but in arizona...110 *F is kinda a giant advisory slapping you in the face
It was 94ish with ~60% humidity here all day today. I was sweating bullets all day.
Tell them to just open up a new Blockbuster account for you. Then they can start all over and sign you up for a fresh trade account.
I'm pretty sure you'll have to be 18 to open one. The BB near me actually wanted to see ID.
for the GS $10 promo, I think they changed it to $5 minimum trade in value. I picked up bewitched which trades in for $4 and the computer denied it. I was able to return it at my BB because i bought $100 worth of used games.
I just traded in Bullet Witch for $4 and got the promo bonus.
which platform is bb buying for $30? i'ma kick myself if it's the 360 version.
Wii...

I bought the 6 copies of Silver Surfer, but they also had Super Monkey Balls Deluxe there for $4 as well. I'll let you guys know how it goes, but I'm guessing SMBD is going to get me at least 1:2 due to the fact that it's still $20 at GameStop. :D This is the best deal ever. I may trade in my 360 as well, since I don't even like getting games for it anymore due to the fact that the PS3 has free online multiplayer. I'm wondering how much I could get at GameStop for it...

Lemme know how much SMBD gets, cheapskate01. I'll be trading it tomorrow afternoon, but if you get there before then, post asap. Thanks!
know how much SMBD gets, cheapskate01. I'll be trading it tomorrow afternoon, but if you get there before then, post asap. Thanks!
I traded 2 super monkey balls into gamestop last night. I don't have a edge card but i got 22 for both with the promotion so $8 --->$22 at GS. I think the $10 promotion ends tonight so you better hurry. At BB it gets $9 i think.

Buy a 12 month xbox live card from BBGR, if you got so many FF:RoSS it shouldn't be a problem. Cost you maybe $10 for the whole year. No reason to trade in your 360 for more credit that you get so cheap anyway.

Well, it's not just the cost of online multiplayer, but also that I don't really like my 360. I see games on the 360 and always find a game that is even better or looks even better on my PS3 (I don't own an Elite). The only reason I was playing it at any time the last few months was because of Rock Band, and even then it doesn't fully belong to me anymore (bought it for a school club, and finally got paid back last month). It's not so much that it's the Xbox Live that gets me, but because all of the games I'm really interested in are on the PS3 or the PC. All the upcoming games that are exclusive to the 360 are really rentals to me (except Fable 2, but my brother owns a 360 as well).

I won't be able to get to GameStop tonight, but it's not that big a deal for me. Turning $4 into $9 is still an $5+ profit for both games, and 1:2 is what I was expecting. ;) Let's just hope that Bezerker was right in that they're extending the deal, though it doesn't seem that likely.
The "limited" one is pretty much this...

Pic
Just noticed this post... The poster doesn't look as good as some others I've seen. Iron Man's poster looked the best if you ask me.

Forgot to ask this before, but does anyone else's BB clean their discs before selling them? I bought 4 games to flip and all 4 of them looked brand new aside from a scratch here or there. I was half-expecting to go home and clean all the goo and fingerprints people put on them off.

Dude, this FF:RotSS is the frickin' motherlode. My "local" Toys R Us is like 25 minutes down the highway, but its near my parents' house, which we happened to be visiting today. So, the wife and I picked up 7 copies of FF, came up at $4 automatically (the 20% off). I had her buy one copy seperately, with a $3 off coupon I had then I bought 6 copies with a $5 off $25 coupon.

So, all in all, I got 7 copies for like $23 after tax. I went ahead and ditched 2 per store at 2 farther away stores and now I just need to trade in the remaining 3.

Once that's all done I will have done $23 out of pocket -> $210 BB credit. I might go do it tonight b/c I think we may rent a movie anyway. Darn good day.

EDIT: I'd originally planned to buy 6 copies total (my wife buying 1 separately) but since they were $4 and not $5, I couldn't use my $5 off of $25 coupon, so I bought 1 more. I should have bought the few more they had too though.

Today the guy at my local GS confirmed the trade 2 get extra $10 promotion would be extended to 7/20.

I did that math and if I could somehow could acquire 7 more Silver Surfers I could completely pay off every game I know I want this year. Madden, NHL, Gears 2, and Left 4 Dead. I wouldn't even have to flip to Gamestop I could just preorder at Blockbuster.

What is the deal with the Gamestop promotion? Can someone explain that whole promo/deal/trade in thing for me?

You trade in two 360/wii/ps3 games and you get extra $10 trade-in credit. Buy used games at BBV and trade them in GS to convert the credit. You are not going to gain much from buying from BBV and then trading in GS, and probably even lose a little considering the tax, but people usually prefer GS credit as they have much better used game prices and promotions. Like with the 30% off coupon this week, I already spend almost $100 GS credit on GC games.

Here's the other Dark Knight print artwork for those interested:

darkknight_poster_int_small.jpg

They also have some cool posters for $5.99 for Dark Knight. One is a big closeup of Joker's face with "HA" written in the same style as "Why so serious?"

Traded in 2 FF:RoSS and two SST (PS3). One of the SST had a hole punch into the UPC. At first the manager said he couldnt take it. But after ringing up the other three, he said eff it and just threw away the cover. I really like this store. I have bought two Wii's from there. One of the other employee held one for me for two days while I got enough credits with Stranglehold trades. There were no good games to flip back to GS. Only found one copy of Spiderman:FoF. Flipped that to GS along with one copy of SMB from TRU.

Still have one copy of FF left, but the other store I traded the first one in sucks. The managers are all female and they are not very nice to people trading in multiple copies. However, they have a lot of flippable games there. They are just in really bad shape and GS will knock off $2 per game for sure. I asked if they had a resurfacing machine, but they dont.

Guess I'll take all the flippable games and have them check which ones are in good shape so I can flip them to BB.
Today the guy at my local GS confirmed the trade 2 get extra $10 promotion would be extended to 7/20.
I hope this is true. If it is I can help out my Local blockbuster by buying a lot of the flippable games they have.

Io-

The trade value for AI for 360 is still Above $30. Can't remember and can't find my receipt, but I flipped two copies yesterday after finding them for $25 and using the infamous coupon of which we should not speak.

Also, a HUGE thanks to you, I picked up 7 copies of FF:ROS today for $4 each (promo worked for me) and 5 copies of Super monkey ball.

Left spending $43 after coupons and tax, I'll roll that to well over $250 and pocket the monkey ball game for the kids.

Thanks again!

I just got back from vacation and I think I missed something. Is Stranglehold PS3 still getting $33 and is American Idol 360 getting $35 still??? (I see over $30 for AI - but what???). What is this promo you speak of sprintfinaceguy???

Stanglehold, may it rest in peace, has dropped to the $8 range. American Idol (x360) is apparently still getting over 30. The hot flip at the moment is Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (Wii) which gets $30. It is on clearance at TRU for $5 and can be found used at GS for $17.99 - edge. Also can be had new at GS for $19.99.

If you read just the last page, it was pointed out that Super Monkey Ball gets $9 at BB and $11 at GS with the promo.

Couldn't find any Fantastic Four but I did manage to get GRAW 2 for the PS3 for $5. Anyone know if it still gets $23? (wiki quote from 4/4/2008)

Damn visited 6 TRU by me already and nothing. NO FF:RoSS at all.

Looks like all the hoarders got to it already. Sucks :bs:

I have to start expanding my search range.

also saw that BB is already carrying the Batman Returns Blu-ray Giftset packs but no BF: BB. Again :bs:

I should have bought the few more they had too though.
we bought all 10 at the hurst location. The manager gave us some crap about it saying we should leave some for other people.
Couldn't find any Fantastic Four but I did manage to get GRAW 2 for the PS3 for $5. Anyone know if it still gets $23? (wiki quote from 4/4/2008)
:ps3:GRAW 2 BB TIV: $16 (6/28)
At TRU? Coupon? How did you manage that?
No, no coupon, it just rings up as $5! (Yes, it was TRU). Thanks for the quote. Seems an OK flip but I will play it a bit first!

Trauma Center New Blood = $30 (wii)
The Club = $22 (360)

TIV at BB

My account was actually flagged at one store but when the worker called over the manager he didn't care. told him to reopen the account. lol. The funny thing is I only traded in 2 copies of Stranglehold there. Oh well. Ended up getting my ps3. :D
