Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores[/highlight].

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Since you should have your credit on a card. they cant do shit about it. Worst they can do is tell you not to come back to trade at that GS anymore. Whoopdie do. Go 5 minutes down the road im sure youll find another one.
 
I've now bought dozens n dozens of BB games to trade to GS.
I always check condition before buying and ask for all black cases to be switched for 360 cases. Never a problem, just a lil extra time. and yes I always remove the price tags.As others have stated it's idiotic not to.

you should just dump the BB cases and trade the games @ gamestop disc only (saves alot of time peeling off those damn stickers).

Why did you have to tell him you were gonna come back tomorrow to use the coupon again? Why didn't you just...do it and not say a thing?

Hopefully, they can't search through your sale and deduct credit. That would suck.

Thats what i do now. I always call the store ahead of time and ask if ill be charged any thing for not having cases. They usually say it doesnt matter.



Attention Dallas CAGer's: There is a new store that opened up called Entertainmart. They buy games but since they are having there grand opening they have very nice promos like buying a unopened wii for $300!
Best part they pay cash!

I didn't say anything was wrong with that. But what was the point of doing that? What could you possibly gain in saying that? Making him feel bad and letting you use the coupon again?

Why are some of you guys pushing things? If you get rejected just suck it up and move on. Making a big deal of things like this $15 coupon that you REALLY arent supposed to be able to use is just bringing attention to yourself and anyone else who might be doing something similar.
 
On a side note, I was able to use the +$15 coupon about 7-10 times today.

I'm amazed. I would just walk in, zone in on one cashier, then come back later and zone in on another cashier.

The trick is to pick off the ones that aren't managers and that they're busy.

Please take note that the cashier was more concerned about the PS3 coupon.

Hilariously enough in my case it was the managers more often than not ringing me up and had no problem whatsoever with the coupon. If any of them questioned it I happily took the $10 bonus with the PS3 coupon in hand. Once they saw it they'd suddenly change their minds midway through the transaction and accept the coupon.

Purposely drawing attention to yourself by insulting the guy is a whole other situation in general. Not smart nor cool. I loathe poor customer service where it isn't warranted hence why I flew off at the collar, but Sniper is right. It really would be best in this case to just quit while you're ahead and shop at another GS. A complaint is just going to ruin the $15 bonus coupon.

I tired to trade in my EoJ at BB today. Got denied because the person at the desk read the front cover that said "includes PS Eye" and said i have to trade in the camera as well to get the trade in value. Damn.

Also, unlike what was previously told you cannot call BB and get TIV. I tried on 2 different stores and got denied at each. BB is not turning out to be as easy as previously imagined. :(
 
Nonetheless it was a subtle jab that unfortunately caught on rather quick. I'd avoid the place and hope the manager doesn't look further into the $15 coupon then alert other stores. Then again you could always avoid them by shopping earlier/later than usual.

I ended up selling it for 520, but got double fee'd by eBay (23.75) and PayPal (21.75). Even though it cut pretty deep into profit margin, and shipping won't make it better, I'll still have made about 2.25 ratio profit from it.

I'm just glad I got rid of it.

weakkkkk, EOJ is my flip of choice, best tiv at BB out of any game, since its supposed to be traded with the camera, but I've traded it 3 times. Now I got 2x all the crap (stand/mat) and a camera for free. Best flip by far imo. Also TC4 wouldn't work for me, it wouldn't scan of course, so I told them "Oh, I called in and the woman said you had to look it up or something." same thing I did at anther BB and it worked fine. So I just returned it when I traded the few games I could find at GS.

I cant wait for the madden psp, the blue one looks sweet, plus the guy said I could trade in the madden game the same day for $20 so, not bad. $180+tx - $25 deposit, so $165ish for a blue psp and 1gb stick. I'll still have $100 + gs credit for Fallout and something else.

it is totally ymmv which locations will give TIV over the phone. just call different ones until you find one that does and use them to find out TIV in the future. if none locally give them out, call locations from a different state (assuming you have a cell phone with free long distance).
 
I can't get any GS's to let me buy their used EOJ with the mat and cam.

How do you guys get the mat and cams? Do you just bring up the game and hope for the best while not mentioning anything?
 
Hey guys just a noob question yesterday I trade in rockband and time crisis that I bought in gamestop in which I got 63 dollars of blockbuster credit. Today I bought similar game which is rockband and time crisis I am planning to trade the similar games that I trade in yesterday on the same blockbuster. My question is would I get in trouble? Would they question the gamees that I am trading bcoz its the same game that I traded in on the other day?

Its much better to trade in different games, but I think its ok, by the rules. But if its the same employee they might notice. Next time, try and spread out the games you trade into Bb since they have gotten really bitchy lately, I couldn't even trade in Time crisis today.

its up to you if you want to chance it. you are technically allowed to according to the trade agreement. what i do is ask if it would be alright for me to trade 2 of the same titles. some say yes, some say no.

You're not supposed to get the mat and cam. I just got really lucky that the employees at the GS I go to are both new and the store itself is very new. I'm not even going to say where it is... its not in my usual area but near where I work, so you stay away you mega-flippers. Just let me trade in my humble 4-6 games, lol.

But back to your question, I just bring the game in, I've never been questioned at 3 different BBs, but they are all not GR ones, try a plain BB not a GR/BB. But dont expect to get the camera with EOJ at GS, they aren't supposed to come with them. But I did mention I needed a cam stand at the GS today, since I've gotten several EOJs there and wanted to seem like I wanted to keep it, he gave me the stand and mat but no cam.
 
a little advice when trading in EOJ that you bought used from GS...try to peel off the price sticker on the front just enough to where the white rough residue that results from not quite getting all the sticky part off covers the "REQUIRES EYE CAM" part of the game case ;) more likely to work...especially if employees have never heard of it

maybe thats why its worked for me, but I always leave the white part on, I suck at peeling them off, especially on the spine.

I have tried ALL the BB around me and got denied at them all now. Can anyone confirm a particular BB that is willing to take the 2 seconds to tell me the TIV. PM me if you can. Thanks.

Don't forget Octomania for the Wii, its $15 at GS and trades in for $23 at Gamerush (though GS only sells new copies, apparently, so no edge discount). Its still a better ratio than the 1.3 PS3 games on the list. Can't hurt to throw it into the mix when you're flipping back and forth.

Also, TRU currently has PS3 Harry Potter and the order of the phoenix on sale for $8, trades in to GR at $16.

Funny that you should mention the TomTom because I busted open my one from Black Friday just last week and used it today to find my way to a couple of out-of-the-way Blockbusters.

I made a nice casual run tonight with one of my boys. He was happy because he got an ice cream sandwich (via cheap credit), ate dinner at the Mall, went to the Lego store, and got to play Rock Band at GS. I was happy because I found another Blockbuster that was pretty well stocked (but 2 others that had next to nothing).

Some observations:

1) Today was big-time shipment day at all the Blockbusters. I noticed my local store had a huge stack of BRAND NEW DS games! They let me take a look as they came out of the box. Nothing spectacular, but they had NSMB, Mario Party DS, Professor Layton, and then a bunch of "casual crowd" games like High School Musical and My Fashion Designer (which my daughter actually wants as it is supposed to be one of the better of those types of games - but I couldn't even get myself to spend $30 of my endless credit on it).

2) I also saw Wii Fit and the MGS bundle at one store.

3) They were also unpacking several DS Lites at two of the stores - each seemed to have 2 of all the current colors. Now I'm kind of regretting moving most of my credit to GS (well, not really as I made 1.6+ on most of it :lol:).

4) I was able to use one $15 coupon at a GS and the guy said one per customer when I tried a second one. But he told me I could go to the other GS in the Mall. It was a good thing he said that because as I was waiting in line there he came down to the other store to help and wouldn't you know, I was next in line :lol:. So I told him "here you go, you told me to come down here". He was cool with it. The only problem was that I wanted to try more than 1 but I knew that wouldn't fly plus I had some duplicates. So after that trade we had dinner and came back and he wasn't there any more so I managed to do THREE more $15 trades (sweet, wasn't expecting to do more than 1 more!) and as a bonus to the new guy (he really was new - didn't know how to do preorders :shock:) I preordered Fallout 3 and got the soundtrack bonus dealie.

5) Girlfriend of the manager of the second store asked me if I had traded at the other store recently. She was there last week when I traded so I came clean. It always seems to be the gamer chicks that remember me from one visit to the next... Hmmm... :whistle2:k. Anyway, she was on break and just being chatty so I saw no harm in it.

Yeah, I haven't bothered updating the csv for a while. By the way, I finally found a Sega Superstar Tennis at Blockbuster and it was marked (and scanned) $34.99. So the one I saw at that other store (that was disc-only so I didn't buy it) must have been mis-marked. I'll remove that.

I bought 14 games today (feast or famine as 10 were from one store and the other 4 were from 3 others) for a total of [highlight]$84.93[/highlight] and got a total of [highlight]$187.40[/highlight] for them at GS. And I didn't even quite maximize the potential there as I traded in 3 $5+ games without the coupon (but, like I said, used it for 10 others). Not bad for a nice evening out in combination with some quality 1-on-1 time with one of my kids.
 
Lucky you with that Virtua Tennis 3. I only had one Blockbuster with Spiderman 3's. I cleaned out 4 of them and someone took the last 2. In the 4 Blockbusters I've hit, none have had Beautiful Katamari OR Virtua Tennis.

Come to think of it. Of the 4 Blockbusters I have hit only 1 has been worthwhile. 2 of them have absolutely no games, 1 has a modest amount of games and the one that has been worthwhile had over 30 games. I've pretty much cleaned the one good blockbuster out. The rack that held the 360 games at that specific Blockbuster was overflowing. The manager still looks at me funny whenever I walk into the store though.

I'm at 7 copies of Spidey 3 and 5 copies of Virtua Tennis 3. There's still plenty more Spidey's in the area.

Traded tonight :ps3: History Channel: BFTP ($30) and :ps3: Time Crisis 4 ($30). As reported, Time Crisis doesn't scan - it comes up "invalid UPC" because the active UPC for the game is on the outside of the box (with the gun). One store told me they couldn't take it, so I took it to a different one and the girl looked it up for the $30 value. :)

you are lucky..i was able to use the extra $15 coupon during my initial run of flipping...but after a while...they stopped accepting the coupon...even the GSs that i never been to prior to my run, didn't even accept the official cardboard one...seems pretty strange to me...

yeah...they really should be in the flipping HoF...i think i traded in more than 20+ Spiderman 3's at around 6 GS...usually different employees...but they don't really mind...never asked me why i traded in multiples of games...they were actually pretty happy that i was trading games in...
 
Anyway, one other funny thing I forgot to mention. The newbie GS clerk said to me at the end "yeah, that Blockbuster has some great deals". Man, I nearly jumped, did a double take, a spit take, what have you... I just kind of stammered "what, why?". His manager was also asking him why he said that. Then he said he saw my Blockbuster card (actually a Value card) in my wallet (since I had it laid open to get the 2 Edge cards I was using). So I'm not sure what deals he was talking about, but for a second I thought he knew exactly what I was up to. False alarm I guess!

the same thing happened to me when i traded in TC4...it's good thing i'm cool with the employee...she just looked up the UPC and did it manually...

Octomania is suprisingly a pretty fun game...it gets repetitive after a while but i'll still pick one up after this run ends...

Were you at the State College/Chapman BB tonight? I saw someone there renting two movies (paying with a debit card though). The employee noted that the account had a $250 balance on it (I believe it was credit owed by BB, not the other way around). Just asking, cause if so, that was me picking up another round of games to flip.

In related news, I'm currently making a sticker ball out of all the GS and BB stickers. I couldn't find a good spot to keep placing stickers (while driving nonetheless) so I just decided to stick them to themselves. It's not that big at the moment, but I'll post a pic when all is said and done. Yes, absolutely useless info.

I'll have a count of my totals in a little later (still trying to sort out which games go where and how much credit is left). All I know is that I have three GS cards with $200+ with another large stack of games left and some BB credit.
 
I found a copy of super monkey ball at BB today, but it wouldn't play on my wii, the disc was scratched a bit. But GS didn't charge me a refurb fee. Odd since I noticed the scratches before I even put the game in. Also, I've been waiting to try the time splitters 2 I got at BB, but I cant get the tv from the gf, god I hate wii sports so much. I finally got all the stuff I need to play gamecube games, controller and mem card. Odd that 3 stores I went to didn't have any, well not that surprising since you need one for the wii.

any other good gc games you've guys noticed at BB? I've been wanting to get some, but never had the stuff to do so.

edit: also, I forgot to mention I took my gf's younger brother with me to GS. How the hell do you keep your kid from going nuts at GS io? He was flipping out, but the employees were fine with it. And by flipping out I mean he was excited, not annoying or anything.
