Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

I've got a it of a problem with the "regular blockbusters take trade-ins" bit of the OP. I've called the local blockbuster here at least twice to ask if they do take game trade-ins and i've been told they do not. They've told me that they only take movies for trade-ins. This is a franchise store though, that may have something to do with it.

I think you answered your own "problem" ;)

Hey, i said it was a possibility, i don't know corporate/franchise policies. Thought maybe someone else had encountered the same thing.

so, with the $10 per 2 next gen (or $15 with preorder coupon), you can pretty much use the bbv b1g1 to profit off every single $10 game, right? buy two for $10, get $10 promo and profit off the original TIV.
I dont know right now but Ill be on the phone tomorrow to verify TIV of:

AI:KR
Timeshift
Tony Hawks Proving Ground

Im sure there will be plenty of people finding out the F4 TIV lol.... so ill wait for that one.

I am  all night tonight that AI:KR stays the same. $5--->$40 is going to be sweet :D
AI:KR finally dropped to 15 at some targets? yay

Not only worried about F4, but also SST, Sonic + Secret Rings, and Sonic Riders

For the most part yeah thats what i seems. Just have to be careful if you use the $15 coupon because the TIVs need to be at least $4 base (not too hard with most of the BBV titles). For the $10 it just needs to be over $1(again not too hard)

Outside of that yes pretty much every title $9.99 is now a the WORST a $2 profit maker. Good point!

had to make sure i didn't have fuzzy math, cuz that one seemed to good to be true.

now, the question is, is bbv credit more marketable (due to the ability to purchase movies and rent) or is gs credit more marketable (due to increased video game selection) on craigslist for general public? i've been wondering if i should craigslist my bbv credit or if i should try to convert back to gs and then craigslist.

As a relative CAG noob, I pulled off my first flip today. I purchased the only two copies of FF:ROTSS and two of the three SMB:BB for $17 and change and traded in both FF's & 1 SMB:BB for $69 in credit. I'm not sure what I'll do with the last copy of SMB. I might hang onto it for when I finally get a Wii or use it to open a new trade account at a different BBV.

For those keeping track, I don't have any GRs in my state and completed my trade at a regular BBV.

Hopefully, Io can put the original BB->GS game list back up. He had games on there that would be good to trade if B1G1 happened. Thought I was through transferring credit to GS but now I can't wait for next week. This gives us a whole bunch of games that are now flippable.

TIV:
FF - $30
Fatal Inertia - $32
Spyro Wii - $13

Of course, these might have already changed since I traded at around 6pm(PST).

AI: KR still at $24.98 at the Targets in my area. Heavenly Sword finally dropped to $29.98 and Donkey Kong: BB held at $24.98. HS and DK might be good to flip if they drop to $14.98 and $12.48, respectively, after $5 coupon.

Im done for a while taking games to BB. Next week when the B1G1 free is the time to look for games to transfer to GS while their $10 or $15 promo still going on. Stranglehold looks like a candidate so far.

If anyone is a Batman fan, BB have already started selling the BLU RAY Batman Begins.... picked up the gift set today, pretty sweet its got the 6 minute intro for The Dark Knight on it.
If anyone is a Batman fan, BB have already started selling the BLU RAY Batman Begins.... picked up the gift set today, pretty sweet its got the 6 minute intro for The Dark Knight on it.
They also started taking preorders for Lego Batman :D
The B1G1 starts July 8th (they have not announced the end date yet). It is for all games 14.99 and less and should be going on at all corporate BBV's and GR's. Expect at least a few more games to go UP in price to 16.99.
:wall: This sucks big time. Hopefully it lasts for quite a while. Otherwise I'm screwed - I just found out today that I need to travel for work July 9-17. I'm probably going to miss the entire B1G1 or at least the part that overlaps with the GS promo. I'll be back on the 18th but that day and the next 2 days I'm busy with other stuff here and won't be able to make more than maybe 1 trip to a single BB and GS. So I guess I'll have next Tuesday to make an epic run - problem is that is the day before I leave for over a week so my family won't be happy with me running around all day. Damn :bomb:... However, on the flip side (heh), I will probably have most of the weekend free so I can try my luck there. I just don't know anything about the Blockbusters where I'm going (Tucson).
It's 12:07, do you know where your trade values are?
Well, I traded a FF at 9:15 PM Pacific and it was still $30. There have been times in the past when the values changed at 9pm because they change at midnight Eastern. So there's a decent enough chance it held. I ended up doing the price match at Gamecrazy no problem, then took the kids to see WALL-E, then traded my last copy (of 5 total) to Blockbuster. Only problem is I didn't have a chance to get to TRU like I was planning (we ended up seeing the earlier show).
Can we get an update to the OP with details of the B1G1 sale? It might be helpful to just point people in that direction.
I guess I'll add it in though there isn't much in the way of details: July 8th, B1G1 free on $14.99 or under.
AI:KR finally dropped to 15 at some targets? yay
Meh - They just dropped to $24.98 around here recently. I flipped one but with the $5 FF turning $15 into $35 seems like a complete waste ;).
Hopefully, Io can put the original BB->GS game list back up. He had games on there that would be good to trade if B1G1 happened. Thought I was through transferring credit to GS but now I can't wait for next week. This gives us a whole bunch of games that are now flippable.

TIV:
Fatal Inertia - $32.
D'oh! I knew when I was staring at this game at Gamecrazy today that there was a reason I was staring at it. I completely forgot the details of this one. I think it was $24.99 at GC but they have that 20% off E-rated games thing now and I'm pretty sure it was E (or E10 at least). That would make it $20. Not the best flip I suppose. But maybe it was cheaper than that... I seemed to remember thinking if it was going to be at least $30 at BB it would be worth it... I'll have to check again in a few days.

As for the "original" list, well, I don't have it any more, but it is easy enough to get values from the GS thread. I think I only removed a few of the bad ones and of course, the games that got bumped to $16.99 which we don't want on there anyway. If anyone wants to compile what they can find at BB for $14.99 or less and send it to me I'll cross reference the GS thread and add to the list in the OP. Note that my ability to edit or even read this thread from July 9-18 will be severely restricted. Though I'm traveling for work, I'm staying at a completely unwired house (not even a phone) belonging to my inlaws. I'll have to head on over to the bagel place to get me free Internet and keep tabs on things here.
hahahaha that would be the funniest thing in a long time i think. Although according to the other thread it gets a base of $5. Which would make it $10.50 with normal bonus and edge or 21.00 for two. OR $25 for 2 if you use the NCAA coupon promo.

So $15--->$25 in GS credit is pretty nice. Would be a nice thing to do to help BBV out too haha.
ok thanks. Its still pretty good because ur paying nothing out of pocket. This would take away some of my guilt of taking advantage of BB and trading in so many of these. Giving them to GS, you can never feel bad about taking advantage of GS. :D

Well we got stanglehold on the list of credit transferers. Any others?

Off topic, but can we make a CAG Honor Thread. A thread dedicated to the things that served the CAG community with dedication. We could nominate things to be put in there. I would nominate CheapyD for making this website, IO for taking care of this thread and others as well, Djkunai for his great flipping abilities, and that $10 target coupon because even after its exp. date it still serves us well (for those with the right cashiers;)) Hey, I'll even nominate this thread because it saved me a ton of money the past 7 months.

I hate to keep asking these questions, but I've looked and can't find my own answer. What's the $15 GS bonus/coupon everyone's talking about in here?

Well, no F4 at two of my TRU....I guess I will stop looking. Only one TRU left, but it is in a high traffic area, so I doubt they will have any left. No Super Monkey Ball either.

Oh well, I know one store still had Splinter Cell DA left, so I may flip that if trade values hold today.

Also, I purchased a DS (white) and Brain Age 2 (used) for my wife yesterday. Apparently they have an abundance of DS lite's in stock. She enjoys it. Now, with the B1G1, hopefully I can find some more DS games she would like. I wonder if I can pricematch my game I just bought....Brain Age 2 was $14.99.

Well, I signed up for the 22.00/month 1 game at a time deal at my BB (no Gamerush attached) and so far I'm pretty happy.

I picked up the Hulk first, which stunk, and was able to bring it back the next day for another game.

The only thing that worries me, is the selection is pretty small, but they seem to have everything in stock. For example, they have 1 or 2 copies of each game, except for really popular stuff like GTA.

Also, they oddly never got games like Alone in the Dark or Hellboy in. If BlockBuster doesn't have it day 1, can you pretty much guarantee they wont carry it?
If BlockBuster doesn't have it day 1, can you pretty much guarantee they wont carry it?
My understanding of rental chains is that if they are to recieve product, it will be for the release day (day 1).

Thanks GuardianE, I have some wii games that I've been wanting to trade into GS to pick up some other games.
On the side note:
For those who's having trouble finding FF to flip I have some about 3 Copies of FF if anyone want to pay me for what i paid for at TRU + taxes and shipping I'm more than happy to sell or trade them for Eternal sonata. I'm done flipping FF at my BB, they're rising the red flag on me. One of the mananger told me today that they received called from their coporate and said to stop trading for people that brings 2 or more copies of same game in to trade cause they somehow know we bought them off cheap. She even told me I know you bought those games for 4$. Lol! you guys might want to chill down with the flipping if you've been doing it too much recently.

I agree with you, some people seem to be getting a little ridiculous with the amount of copies your trading in. If this becomes a big enough issue for BB something will be done and we won't be able to do this anymore

I know your right, but if the value of F4 stays the same I dunno if I can resist flipping the remaining 7 copies.

well i can't stop you from doing whatever your going to do, but they are going to catch on eventually; good luck either way
so, what's the next flipping candidate then?
i think sonic riders: zero gravity (wii) is a contender; depends on values changing of course

To quote from Guitar Hero Aerosmith, "it's the same old song and dance, my friend"
There have been people pushing 10+ copies for a long time, and every time a big flip comes up, someone plays advisor and thinks the party is going to crash.
I only go back to last December with flipping, but Blockbuster didn't stop accepting trades after Beowulf, or Darkness, or Monster Madness, or all the Forza2/ MUA with printed covers, or Target clearance games. It won't stop accepting trades because of Fantastic Four.
What should happen is whoever is incharge of adusting the TIV's will be thrown on the carpet for not dropping the TIV of a game.
Risk of getting banned is a personal problem.

BOGO = 50% off sale. I'll hit GR BB tomorrow to pick all the good game for 50% off instead waiting for week later all the GOOD game is gone :)
BOGO = 50% off sale.
Wrong. In a 50% off sale, you're not required to purchase two items. Hence, 50% > B1G1.

Either way, its good for us though.

After consulting with the Mighty Telephone, the oracles at the local Blockbuster confirmed that the trade-in value of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer for the Wii has held at $30.

You have word first hand from the oracle of the mightly tel3fone! Peace be upon us on this, a most prosperous day. :D

Let the insanity continue...

Listening to better judgment, and a fear of being permabanned at BBV, ill surrender the 7 or so copies of FF if someone wants to trade for another toysrus clearance game (preferably oblivion, blue dragon, jeandarc). If your interested let me know, otherwise they will sit at toysrus remaining untouched forever.

Quick phone quotes for anyone interested:

THPG: $12
Timeshift: $15
(Both of these are better at GS right now with the $15 coupon).

AI:KR: $35 (WOOT!)
i think sonic riders: zero gravity (wii) is a contender; depends on values changing of course
thats because gamestop has them new for $19.99 and $34.99 used which doesn't make any sense

Its been talked about a bit...just have to actually read the thread ;)
thats because gamestop has them new for $19.99 and $34.99 used which doesn't make any sense
I dont think its 19.99 anymore because that was part of their game days sale and that should be over now. Hence why the used copies were more then the new.
Hmmm, I just wish my TRU had some F4....damn them hoarders ;)

Anyone want to call about Splinter Cell DA? $4 -> $12 is not a bad return.
I vote for you.

Stop asking for other people to call. Pick up the god damn phone and call yourself. It's not hard.

Harry Potter: OOTP held at $16. Don't know if it's still on sale at GS.

Also... Updates to the system are usually done after 12 PM so whoever called and got the quote for $30 might be wrong later on.

How'd you arrive at this conclusion? They've always been updated at the time of opening in my experience. In fact, people hitting up stores late at night on Monday nights on the west coast have reported that the changes take effect at like 9pm PST. In any event, a quote received at open today should be accurate.

I just tried trading in FFROSS at the local blockbuster and the manager refused me told me the game was too new and they weren't accpeting it for Trade in because they were selling it for new. What a load of crap
