Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores[/highlight].

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

I believe it's in the Gamestop Trade 2-Get $10 extra thread. Basically, pinoy got banned by Gamestop for excessive trading of the same title, although he did mention that it's most likely the work of a Jr. Detective (see:asshole manager), and not the corporate entity spying on suspicious trade-in activities by users. The reason why it's kind of shocking is because we've never really heard of anyone getting banned by Gamestop for excessive trading, only Blockbuster.
 
was wondering how many different gamestops anyone has gone to in one day and traded games before. Does there computer show trade history thats linked to your edge card?? Reason I ask cause Sunday is last day for extra 10 dollars and i need to unload some of these games fast and Saturday my whole day is tied up. Thanx

I'm pretty sure that any GS can see your trading record as they pull up your account, but they might not really care. A few weeks ago, I hit up around around 7-8 Gamestops in a day. No one seemed the least bit concerned and I did multiple copies at one GS only once by accident. He either didn't notice or didn't care.
 
I did a smallish GS->BB->GS->BB flip today. Without going into all the details (all the values have been covered), I turned like $17 GS credit into a Soul Calibur IV pre-order at BB.
 
I am now 6 for 6(100% success rate) on the use of the Trade 2, Get $15 coupon. Today I bought at BB: 2X THP8, King Kong, Moto GP 06, and The Outfit. I now have $174 GS Credit and $0 BB Credit. Going to trade in Rockband and Turning Point later on today.

Thats a good idea, I haven't preordered a game since wiifit. Don't wanna raise suspicion about hoarding store credit.

Too bad this summer is looking like complete shit when it comes to new games (for me atleast) might as well get little big planet :booty:

Right on. SCIV looks cool, but I've never been all that into fighting games. Having said that, I loved SC2 and do look forward to playing as Vader and the Secret Apprentice. And considering I spent like $17 GS credit to pay it off, I figured I'd give it a whirl. All the really good games don't hit til fall. Unless you count Too Human in August, and from what I hear, dunno if I want that one yet.

Prediction time. I predict that tomorrow's GS coupon will be absolutely useless for flipping. Just a wild guess though.

Luckily, I keep all of my BBV receipts, should something like this happen.

Maybe I'll get a free Wall-E toy after talking to the manager...
 
All this flipping has me very happy. I started with:

START: $104 credit BBV from my own personal collection trade ins.
FINISH: $450 credit GS after many TradeIn2 get $15 extra and the $10 TradeIn2.

Now I can get all the games later this year for practically $0.00 Super Sweet. Couldn't have done it without CAG.

Whoever is dumping games at rt 37 Toms River, NJ, please coordinate with me so we don't show up at the same time with the same games. There were way too many Viking and Condemned 2(360).Must have been from last week.

Bayville great find again, Pikmin 2(GC). Game, box, no manual. Trade or ebaying it.
Bayville still had a lot of good stuff even after I grabbed 10 games. Tempted to go 7 more miles to another store. Maybe roadtripping saturday.
 
So has anyone else been banned? Let's keep in mind we are limited to flipping the ammount of same copies, unlike Kunai. No offense there, but also keep in mind your not invisible when doing trades. I only did this once actually the manager at BBV noticed the second harry potter I brought into trade, she asked me how come you have a 2nd copy? I never tried bringing in 2 copies of the same games to flip though.

I dunno - there's enough clutter there already. When they do preorders for me they just look up the part number on a different terminal. That's how the old GR used to do it and at my local BB they seem to know this. Just ask them to look if it is "in the system". Once they find the part number they can do the preorder. I think it is too suspicious to go in there and tell them what the part number is - remember, act dumb ;).

Wow... That has got to put even djkunai to shame! I've done quite a bit but I'm nowhere near that amount. Seriously, you must have flipped close to 400 games from BB to do that.
 
just found out today that my trading account at bb has been suspended. apparently the warning message says that i reached the maximum amount of credit, but im still allowed to purchase stuff with my value cards. well, i only got $8.xx left so i won't be buying much. im not even sure if that is the real reason and i thought i've been laying low recently. all the flipping has been centered on GS since this promo started. in the past week i've only traded in 2 time crisis 4, 1 rainbow six vegas 2, 2 rockband, and 3 turning point. multiples were paired off and each set went to different locations on different days. the manager at one of the stores spent 20 minutes on the phone with customer service, but couldn't come up with any explanations. i guess im done with this and it's been fun while it lasted. what sucks is i had a couple preorders at my local bb and i wish i could pay them off. for those that have been banned then unbanned, how long did it take for the warning message to disappear? thanks for all the contributions from everyone. i still have 2 gamecrazy stores i can pricematch at so i'll just do my flipping there.

Ahaha, thank io, it wasnt easy but yeah around 400 sounds right.
haha today's my day off, so today im just taking time for myself playing my coveted Pokemon Pinball Advance.
 
God this sucks. There's someone who is using this thread for his own personal gain around my town, but he's not posting!

He cleaned out the Hackensack, NJ GS of Blacksite Area 51's. I'm going to be hitting a new GS soon. Hopefully he hasn't hit that.

I did find a lot more games at the BB i went to today. I've been into that store before, but I never found too many games for sale. Today I looked at the piles of games they had at the register(I thought they were all last gen so I skipped over them) and they had a ton of 360 games available. Most of them were under the PS2/Gamecube games.

2 questions

Where are you ?
Was it described as a system wide ban (via corporate) or DM initiated ban (Talk to the manager to get the answer to this)


And to answer your question either Absolutely no activity at a store and your account gets dropped after 6 months (along with the note). If it's a DM initiated ban, talk to the DM (this could get your account unfrozen quickly if you're being accused of stealing or some other such nonsense) or work with you're local manager by wait for the DM to change. Which is how I got unbanned at my main GR.

Try trading at a remote BB to see if you're system wide banned (this is very unusual, I think in the 4 years we've been tracking this I've only heard of 2-3 ppl being corporate banned.

2. the manager i spoke to didn't know if it was a corporate or dm that did the banning. he gave me the number to customer service, but im not sure if it would even do anything if i left a message.

i went to another bb down the street to see if my account was suspended there, and unfortunately it was. ill try going to another bb closer to my work, which ends up being a different city. if it works there im assuming it was a dm initiated banning. thanks for the reply.

You got yourself in trouble with a junior detective there most likely. It is worth appealing to the DM as they probably are suspecting you of theft and that's never a good thing even if they continue to let you buy stuff. I'll never forget the feeling when I went in to a BB I had only traded at once before and they told me I couldn't trade - the manager came out and said "we can't accept games from YOU". At the time I had no idea why he had the attitude but then I realized after talking to the manager of another store that it was because for them trading 2 copies of the same game to different stores meant I had to have been stealing them. I got it cleared up at the second store but I've never gone back to the first one.
 
Are there any flippers in the Houston area? It seems like I must be the only one since every BB I've been to has been like Christmas for me. I've used $142 and turned that to 753.60 in GS credit along with 2 Wii Fits( one for me and another for my buddy, fuck the scalpers!), Wii classic controller, Wii 2000 points card, used Metroid Prime 3 for Wii, pre order for Soul Caliber 4 LE for the PS3,360 black rechargeable battery, and 2 disc Marvel Ultimate alliance platinum edition for 360.

One thing I have noticed is to always put pre-orders down at the main Blockbusters and Gamestops you trade at. That will ensure that the employees don't get suspicous and you continue to build rapport with them.

damn I'm a bit worried about hearing that I'm in norcal, did you trade people trade in a lot to one BB specfically and got a hold on there account?

Yea i suspected it was a jr. detective as soon as i found out my account was suspended. the weird thing i just traded this past weekend and everything was fine. i will try to contact the DM, but im not even sure how to go about doing that.

i've spent a very good chunk of it, so im not really sure how much i've amassed over the past 10 months or so that i've been trading. if i had to say, i would estimate about $3000.

Sorry to be a pain, Northen Ca, LA, South OC, North OC ?

City would be interesting, but areacode would be helpful. I only ask to gauge my own reaction to this (lay low, etc)

when you guys have to "clear it up that you're not stealing," do you just tell them about your flipping antics, or what? how do you go about doing that?

No you don't want to mention the term flipping, but do offer receipts if challenged about where the games came from, and off course the term "I feel like I'm being discriminated against" is always a good one.

I never was able to talk to the DM, only the store manager of one store. I told her I had receipts for the games (it was Beowulf back in Dec). She never asked to see them and I thought they were blowing me off because I kept calling back and she would say she forgot to talk to the DM, or the DM didn't call her back, etc... Finally I just tried trading about 4-5 months afterwards and I was clear. Later I saw a note at this store (when they had the monitor turned slightly) from the manager saying I was OK to trade. So I really have no idea what happened. Also, my local store which the DM put a note on back in Dec was clear about 4-5 months later (no note at all). Since this was before the 6 month "drop out" period I can only conclude the DM removed it or my local store manager did. I didn't want to ask too much about it because there was no need to bring their attention back to the matter ;). During the time that I couldn't trade at those 2 stores (and presumably the one with the attitude though I never tried again there) I was able to trade at 3 other stores no problem.

Toy's R Us has Resident Evil 4, Splinter Cell Double Agent and Trauma Center: Second Opinion all for the Wii for 7.98. I wonder if there is a good flipping opportunity here. Will find out.

trauma center might be a good flip to BB, I think I saw it at one for 34.99, not completely sure though. It may have been 24.99

I only found Zack and WIki If i saw that in the TRU thread I would've picked those up since I just got a Wii

Sometimes games will still have the regular price. If you go to toys r us and see these games, just ask them to scan them. Should ring up as 9.99 and then a 20% discount

Oh i think it's gonna be too late for that. Even if you take it easy, some asshole will ruin it for the rest of us. I'm laying low because I don't want to get banned from BB. I figure I have plenty of credit now, no need to get greedy. I have enough credit to last the next couple of years.

I figure I'll get my new games at BBV and my old games at GS when they have a coupon. And if I trade in the games I already have, this credit I've saved up should last me until the next gen console comes out and I need $500 to get it. :)

Woot!!! This new coupon will let me use some of this GS credit I have worked so hard for!!! I'm hoping to pick up a dual shock 3, some Wii games, & maybe a Wii charge station with battery packs!!!
