Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Reported Trade-In Prices

Trade-In Price Wiki

Have any BBV employees lurking/contributing to this thread gotten any word on the new games dropping to $14.99 or even lower tomorrow?

It looks like Dancing with the Stars, Octomania (used, if possible), and DBZ Budokai 3 for the Wii have all been confirmed as good flips. Great job to everyone contributing - still no word on whether or not the Trade 2, Get $10 promo has been extended or not, so it looks like tomorrow will be the big day (with BB dropping prices) to really unload some credit.

not a ton to add just that EoJ and Time Crisis 4 (PS3) prices held for me today trading in at BBV. All my xbox ones held and can add one that is quake four which I got 7.75 for at gs.

Also if I may be so bold to make a suggestion if you walk into a store with 6-8 games don't make them all $20+ even if you throw in a couple sacrificial ones it is better then causing issues. Take a $5 one in also even if you only break even it will look much better.

For example if you walk into GS with 10 games have a couple $1 ones, that do not qualify for the bonus. You don't even have to trade them in just say you will hang onto those and things will go much better.

edit: yes that is with bonus and card. sorry forgot to mention it

but quake 4, I think he got 2.75 + bonus. Not 7.75, I traded in a few days ago and I thought it was really low tiv.

edit: recept indeed says 2.75 for quake 4 at GS

Traded in Blacksite today....nice $33 value. The guy didn't even blink and it still had some yellow stickers left on it from GameStop (they would not remove easily....)

Anyways....anyone trade in Ninja Gaiden II (360) recently? Debating whether to trade in at GameStop or GR.

A quick note on the way Blcokbuster has been handling their game business- they don't respect the customer.

Even with GS giving ridiculously underpriced TIV, the average customer knows they can take their old games to GameStop and they will buy them, so they can buy a different game. This "idiot-consumer" is happy to get $5 back for a game they paid $50 for. Blockbuster saw this consumer, and how much profit the market has, and decided to try and get involved.

Of course Blockbuster doesn't encourage trades. The average employee doesn't know how to do a trade, and certain stores make their own rules (the manager has to be in, you can't have stickers on the case, etc.). Sure, they give high TIV, but the average customer won't be able to take advantage because of the hassle involved finding employees who will help/let tem trade. CAGs, however, realized that one you find a knowledgeable employee combined with a good clearance, you can make considerable profit. Sure, you may have to push and shove to find a good employee, but once you do, it's a golden cycle. Buy cheap, flip, use credit to buy games.

This issue creates another one- people who go to GameStop don't want to use cash to pay for their games- they want to use their store credit. Sure, if they could have gotten store credit at Blockbuster, they would probably visit to pick up games. But since they're forced to pay cash out of pocket (without the use of coupons or an EDGE card) it's easier for the customer to go to GS to buy their crap. This leaves CAGs as the only people in a position to actually buy used games from Blockbuster. Seriously- when was the last time you walked into Blockbuster and saw someone buying old used inventory? It was probably you once the GS $10 promo started.

GameRush needs to get Jr. Detectives and store managers to let everyone trade in games without hassle or bullshit rules.

Stick to the GS model and TELL people who buy games that you take them as trade in and 99% of the time you give more than GS does. Make a side by side board that says what GS is giving and what you are giving.

Why won't you give people TIVs over the phone? They're just going to go over to GS since they know they'll take the game no matter what- why risk wasting gas to go to Blockbuster to find out the TIV?

If Blockbuster wants to be successful, they need to realize that, with these issues, the only people who will try and trade no matter the hassle are the people who know they will profit from enduring the BS. And those people are called CAGs.

$2.50 + .25 edge?
from what I've seen all the BBs have this rule, but on the trade agreement it clearly says 2 per DAY. I've never been turned down a game, just told this was your last trade of it.
yea but if you read the sentence after that, it says something about BBV having sole discretion of limiting any member from trading in any amount of a game, etc. etc.

something along those lines

Yep. Every Blockbuster store reserves their own right to limit trading however they see fit at their own discretion. I do remember reading a notice posted at a chain on its front door.

QFT! Ye king...lay off insults towards the cartoon avatars...

and like my caption above my avatar says...THEY'RE NOT CARTOONS!

can't wait to see what kinda other games will drop to within b1g1 range at BBV tomorrow! my stores have kinda run out of good ratio games to flip to GS :/

Does anyone know the TIV at BB for DMC4 (PS3)?

or does anyone have the number for a blockbuster that will give TIV over the phone so that I can give them a call?

Thanks in advance.

DMC4(PS3) sells for $44.99 at BB. if that helps.

Doesn't Blacksite Area 51 sell for $44.99 too? If thats the case then it probably should get the same TIV of $33.

Ok guys... DILEMMA!

I went into Blockbuster to trade in a couple of games and all that jazz and somewhere in the transaction the CSR didn't give me my gift card back. At the very end of the transaction(s) he gave me 4 receipts back and threw it all in a game case. I though "Ok, he put the gift card in the bag." 10 minutes later I get stuck on a stop light and I look through the game case. No gift card. I pull over and check all my pockets and nothing. I go back to the BB and look throughout their parking lot just in case it fell. Nothing. I go into the BB and the damn CSR isn't freaking working anymore! In the 20 minutes that it took me to go back, he clocked out. The other CSR's couldn't find a gift card lying around or anything. This leads me to believe that he took it and has no intention of giving it back. I don't want to believe this because he seemed to be in a rush when he did my trades and stuff. He might have just gotten confused.

Is there any way I can get reimbursed for my card? I have all the receipts showing the last thing I did with it and everything.

$130 down the fucking drain.

Wow, I had like the crappiest day ever flipping. Started off okay but ended horribly. Ran by 2 gamestops to pickup up trade fodder w/ credit. Ended up with 3 good games- History Channel, Fatal Inertia(360), and blacksite and 2 bad ones-TC4 and Turning Point for 360. At the store I bought turning point/TC4 my account credit jumped from 71 to 13 dollars, and I lost the receipt but am pretty sure those numbers don't add up. Did not look at my account till after another GS store. Flipped 1st 3 games at blockbuster but they wouldn't take TC4 or turning point. Went to 2 gamestops to trade crap I bought at blockbuster and get new games to sell to blockbuster. Picked up GH2(360) accidentally along with Kane & Lynch for ps3 and 3 others. Tried to trade these in at another blockbuster and the cashier was a mean B**** who refused TC4 (again) and Kane & Lynch(not in our system?). She also refused to put my credit on a value card until I insisted(we don't do that here anymore) and showed her I already had one. When she looked up my account to put on the value card she interrogated me on why I need the money on a card, didn't I go to that blockbuster a lot? She snidely asked me didn't I trade there a lot (3 times total, none of the same games)? I will probably have to return Kane & Lynch and TC4, unless the trade prices hold on Sunday. Kunai is right- blockbuster sucks because 90 percent of the employees know nothing about game trading and the ones who do try to make you feel guilty for trading in games there.

just a word to the wise.

DO NOT make the same mistake I did and pick up DBZ 2 all the while thinking that it's DBZ 3. You'll only get $9 TIV for your blunder.

WTF MAN. Get his name and number from the store or have a manager call him themselves while you wait inside of the store. $130 is no f*cking joke my friend. Do whatever you have to in order to get your money back as quickly as humanly possible before he either spends it or finds it then throws it out. I can all but guarantee you BB will NOT reimburse you the funds on that gift card unless you run into the Jesus Christ of store managers. I'm not even sure the value cards are connected to your account in any way, shape, or form and I'm afraid once that money is spent it is gone. Worst comes to worst you might have to refer them to the video footage to prove you didn't leave with your gift card, but it may raise suspicion of your trading activities.

Hop to it!

That's the thing. I'm not 100% sure he didn't give me the gift card. I'm 99.999999% sure he didn't though. I just don't remember ever having it in my hand. Whenever I get my gift card back, the first thing I do is put it in my pocket. fuckING A~~~~~. I just read on Blockbuster's website that you need the original receipt of the purchase of the gift card to get reimbursed. The worst part of it was that there was no fucking manager on duty!! You know, I was going to take it easy on the trading because I felt back for Blockbuster, but if I don't get reimbursed even $50 I will try to cause as much damage as I can.

This isn't the first time this shit has happened to me. All the other times I noticed and alerted the employees that they didn't give me my card back. I was also going to buy like $45 worth of games at that BB, but I was in a rush so I didn't. God's way of punishing me for doing this shit.

darkrider that sucks I am sorry man.

Also wolfpack I also had issue with time crisis 4 today some promo version it seems is not in the database and does not scan. Had to go to 2 BB to get someone to type the name in to get the price. In the end not a huge issue but indeed I am going to avoid the manager that doesn't know how to look up a game.
so people with cartoon characters in their av is stupid? thats pretty stupid
Someone calling someone else stupid all the while having a cartoon character picking his nose in their av was the point. How old are you?

I hit up my final two GS today and found EOJ , TP, and BS51 for ps3 at both locations. Luckily the GS had the cameras to go along with the EOJ. Went to 2 different BB got my 102 dollar gift cards at each location. I think i did pretty good today considering I am done flipping for this time period. Started all with about 90 GS credit. After the week and half I have built up 579 dollars at GS and 260 at BB. I have also gotten 2 blurays free A ps3 game free and a PS3 camera which i probably wont use. I think today i went out with a bang finding those games at gamestop, thanks for all the info fellow CAG members

Now I'm really at a loss. I don't know if I should raise hell at that Blockbuster or not. I've done ~80% of my trades at that one Blockbuster and if I get banned from there, I won't have an accessible Blockbuster to trade games into... I'm really thinking of just taking the $130 hit in hopes of maybe one day finding the stupid gift card in my car. I can easily make back those $130 in 2 or so hours worth of flipping.

On another note, any confirmation on the B1G1 being extended or that there will be more games available to buy tomorrow?

Find out when the manager gets in. Go back and don't leave until they tell you. In fact, most employees that I've spoken with have tha manager's phone number available. Comb your car for the card in case it fell out of your pocket. An employee on duty should be able to tell you when the employee you traded with is scheduled to come in next.

The longer you wait to do something, the more likely the card is gone. You might as well do all you can tonight.

I tried to all I could tonight. I was at the store for an extra 45 minutes searching for the damned card. All the employees checked the desks/garbage for the card, but they found nothing. There manager also wouldn't pick up his phone so I can't talk to him until maybe tomorrow. My only hope is that the kid took the card by accident or something>_

Wow. You've got one hell of a decision to make here. I didn't know you were only working with one Blockbuster and raising hell there will probably mark the end of your flipping activities. Of course with a little luck and the proper demeanor you could get your money back while remaining partially under the radar.

Try consulting Io or Kunai if you can. Hopefully they can shine a little insight onto your situation. I'd give you my two cents on how I was reimbursed credit but my issue involved GS and we're all well aware of the ease involved when resolving any matter. Even so if you end up getting your money back I suggest calling corporate and complimenting their store right in front of the manager who helped you. You'd be surprised how far a little ego boosting will get you. At the very least they'll be less inclined to snoop around in your account afterward.

According to the title of the thread, it ends 7/21, which is Monday. Whether that means Sunday is the last day or Monday is the last day, I'm not sure.

I asked a manager and that manager said that sales usually end on Sundays so tomorrow might be the last day for this one.

But, the rumors of an extension+new titles might be true.

It was a pretty good day for flipping. I traded in a couple copies of Blacksite Area 51, Rock Band, and Octomania (yes, I actually found a copy). After going back and forth, I ended up bringing back all the credit I used to have before moving things to GameStop and then some. At the moment, I believe I currently sit at $400 at Blockbuster and $180 at GameStop. I think I'll hold off for now until another great deal comes along (like B2G1 at GameStop).

It's a great feeling when you know you can buy 17 brand new games with credit alone, all from spending around $60. Thanks a lot for your help, guys. I really appreciate it! I've always done my best to keep your name out of the dirt, and have never mentioned CAG to anyone besides my immediate family. ;)

Darkrider,

Can they check the surveillance camera, if they even have one?

Anyways, I bought a couple of games to trade in at a BBV today. I asked the two people working there if they could look up the trade value for Uncharted. I guess one guy was the manager told me I had to bring in the game.

Me: I think you should be able to look it up without scanning.
Manager: Hmm..let me check. It's probably going to be like $5.
Me: Ok, can you please check anyways. Thanks.
Manager: Oh! Hmmm...

He gets teh other person over to take a look. I can see the surprise on their faces.

Manager: Looks like around $30! (Still staring at the screen).
Me: Ok! Thanks! Maybe I'll bring it in to trade later.

BTW, it trades for $17 at GS so I will definitely bring it in to my main BBV to trade.

Was that a used copy of Octomania? or Brand New? I use the website's store availability ( so i dont look like a dumass and waste gas ) and they don't to have them used.

Never a good thing when you're trading in games and the clerk says "that's the third copy of that we've got in today" (Blacksite) in front of the manager. After getting carded on the trade and the manager asking where I'd bought such expensive games, I think I'll stay away from that store for awhile.

I believe that each store has some sort of signage about losing value cards and what steps you can take. One of the receipts should have the card number on it. I would ask about that. You may have to go through a bunch of bureacratic bs but it is probably worth the hassle.
Was that a used copy of Octomania? or Brand New? I use the website's store availability ( so i dont look like a dumass and waste gas ) and they don't to have them used.
Unfortunately, it was new. But it doesn't really matter, considering you're getting $8 for it (if you take out the costs associated), which would cover a game like Earth Defense Force 2012. So it would be worth it. ;)
I believe that each store has some sort of signage about losing value cards and what steps you can take. One of the receipts should have the card number on it. I would ask about that. You may have to go through a bunch of bureacratic bs but it is probably worth the hassle.
I checked. To get reimbursed for a lost card you have to have the original receipt you bought your card with. I don't have mine. That or have the number of the card. I suggest you all write down the numbers just in case you lose your card one day. Shit happens. I usually keep everything in my pocket and didn't think I would lose mine, but look what happened.

Information Required For GiftCard Replacement

 • The GiftCard Number
 • The original receipt indicating purchase of GiftCard
 • A copy of Valid Photo Identification or Drivers License
 • The Completed "Report Form"
I'm just really happy that I hadn't completed all my trades and then lost my gift card. I had 3 games left after I lost the card so I still have some BB credit. Still freaking down $130...

I traded in my second copy of EoJ at BBV today...had to rip off the right corner b/c I tried to sell back without the cover...not allowed...sell back with cover, need the camera with it...so finally took the advice of ripping off the corner.

The TIV was still $36, which I spent $16.04 to get Soldiers of Fortune and Tony Hawk Proving Ground to flip at GS for $25ish.

Thanks!

Also interesting to note...I put five bucks down on Fallout 3, and the manager charged me tax on the preorder.I tried preordering Rock Band 2, but its apparently not in their system.

Dude darkrider thats horrible about what happened to you. But shouldnt any transaction that you used the giftcard on have the giftcards number? Couldnt they just look it up that way? At least thats what i was told.

Well i had a bitter sweet day today. I decided to go for a flipping run today and it started out fine. I went to 3 gs and 3 bb. the last stop was at a gs with a douchebag manager. I go to trade in about 16 games. I ask him if all the games got the $5 bonus applied to them. Hes like ya we just manually adjusted them. (isnt it atomatic?) then he gives me the receipt but before i signed it i look to see how much they gave me for the games. Turns out that 6 games didnt get the bonus. I tell him this and he tells me that some games dont qualify. I tell him that on their website it says all games above a dollar. He calls someone and asks him about it. He looks at me and tells me that all games below $5 are excluded. this is at the third gs. At the second gs i was able to trade games that had tivs of $2, $3, and $4. I look at him and tell him "You just said all the games got the bonus" He tells me "I never said that." WTF. I was even buying $90 worth of games. After 5 mins of argueing i just tell him to give the games that didnt get the bonus back. He just says fine. He rings it up again and gives me back the games. I look at the receipt and he charged me $6 in refurb fees fuck At that point i didnt want to stay any longer so i just signed the receipt and left. Thats one gamestop that isnt gonna get my buisness anymore. The good part was that at the second gamestop i was able to get PS2 Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (mint, complete) for $56. They also had a limited collectors GOW for the 360 for the same price as the regular. Should i pick that one up later?

Can anyone tell me how to file a complaint against GS? I havent filed any kind of complaint before. hehe

ok more drama to report, I revisited the GS that I had problem trading at last week (+15 coupon issue), during that time the manager had problems getting the system to accept my trade (6 or so games, 2 of Spiderman 3), he had earlier told me that his dsl was offline and that his computer couldn't phone home. After about 20 mins he gave up and I traded the games at a different store closer to my home. I hadn't really thought twice about it as since then.

So jump forward to today, found another supply of BB games, and decided to trade them to the GS store in question (Costa Mesa Plaza by the Target). I walked into the store and about 2 mins in the manager started to tell me that after I had left the last time he had contined to check into why the trade would not complete, and he discovered that I have reached a threshold and could no longer trade. Weird thing is I have traded all week at a number of stores including 1 or two close to this store. The manager was surprised to hear that, especially as 2 of the stores were within the same district (I'm still a little fuzzy as to which stores I actually have traded at, as I may have just bought from them). So I took the games in question to the store close to home and traded without any problem. The whole time I kept asking the manager for his dm's number, but he would only offer me the corporate number, which is pointless. I plan on getting his dm's number from another store that is more friendly.

So the question is what happens next, did he instigate the ban, or did some district limit get triggered.

I have to assume it's due to the large number of Spiderman I have traded in, not the total number of games as I'm sure others have easily beat my trade record.

and was told by the manager that I had exceeded my trade threshold and I he was unable to accept my trade.

Anyone know if anything from the Meijer Buy 1 $29.99 get 1 for $1 sales is flippable to BB? I just got Orange Box (PS3) and Bully Scholarship Edition (Wii) for $28 plus tax after the additional 10% off all video games sale they also have going on.

So for $15 a pop, I'm wondering if any of the $20-30 Wii and PS3 games trade in for much at BB. I don't mind spending $50 cash to get $100 BB credit.

Also, anyone know if I can use the rental pass twice in one day? I have the game+movie combo pass, and after I watch the movie I just rented, I was thinking of making another run to Meijer and then grabbing a different movie or a game from BB as they are in the same stripmall.
