Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
The BB manager I talked to on Saturday said the B1G1 promo ends on Monday. We shall see...
Does it matter since the GameStop deal ends today?

I'll try and head over in a few minutes to check with my cool Blockbuster to see if they found anything in their communication about new price drops, and post em so at least you West Coasters will have a few hours to make your lists.

Ok, rereading threads, the max bonus at Gamestop is 30% for 5+ games, plus 10% for edge.
GTA IV would get $42 at Gamestop
Ninga Gaiden 2 would get 42 and Super Smash Bros Brawl $42 based on the Gamestop sites listing of $30 TIV on those games.
SSBB is $44.99 used at gamestop, with current coupon(20% off) and edge, it would only be $31.50. Uh, i think I stumbled upon on something slighty shady here.
When this thread is retired, I suggest subtitle of "Perfect Storm '08"
You have to have 4 more games to trade though.
GS solution: Lower the TIV of SSBB
Does it matter since the GameStop deal ends today?
Yes, it does. I'm still looking for Soldier of Fortune, Conan, Lost Planet, Lego Star Wars and LOTR BFME2 so I can actually play them!

That and ethically it isn't good. Unless you actually bought it to play for a week then trade it back it in. But buying from GS to trade to GS is a big no no.
I think i'll just dump my GTA IV in with the junk i have left from BB this afternoon.

Interesting, Conan and SoF seem to be easy to find but I've stayed away from the 14.99 games so that might be a reason or indication that I'm the only one flipping in my area...check Gamestop? lol But I do see your point, Sunday is drop day and if the Wii prices drop I might have some shopping to do too.
GS trade in values are chain-wide and are not based on a particular store's stock. They can change from day to day.
ty.

so it doesn't matter how many copies of a game you trade in?

the value/trade in amount per copy should be the same if you trade in one vs. even ten copies of the same game?

wait... huh? where are you arriving at 30%?

Was able to speak to a manager just now - said he has had no communication about any new price drops into the $14.99 bin. He even printed out the list for me of the stuff that did drop:

Notables included The Club dropping to 34.99 across all platforms, Tony Hawk's Proving Ground for the PS3 dropped to 19.99, Virtua Fighter 5 for PS3 dropped to $19.99, and my memory is fuzzy on the rest. However, I only saw about 15 games that were being dropped, and none to 14.99 or lower :(

Edit: In my search for Dancing With the Stars/Octomania, of which I found none, did score a Wii Fit and Wii..completely forgot that Target had them listed in this week's ad :p

Yeah I payed $30 minus discount for GH 2 360 instead of buying GH 3 for the same price, luckily the TIV was only like $6.50 less.

oh well...i guess the flipping game is done for now cuz mine are picked clean (by me :D)
I think you mean $5 -> $7.75, because $9.99 -> $7.75 IS a bad flip. ;)

I had the same problem with Kane & Lynch at one Blockbuster, but not at the other one I went to yesterday. They looked it up in the computer for me since they could see that they had copies for the 360 on the shelf in the games section.

I was told on Thursday that Monday the 21st was the last day for the sale, but told otherwise yesterday.

Yesterday I traded into one of the BBVs I only hit up once and walked out with $95 worth of B1G1. The effeminate store manager was there and he told me that he just got a memo that they are receiving more "transfers" this week for the B1G1 so I should come back sometime during the week. So I'm assuming that means they're extending the sale.
sale being extended past through 21st? how long were the previous B1G1 going on in the past?

does anyone know if bb accepts trade ins of 20gb 360 hdds? i tried calling but i dont think they knew what i was talking about. i was thinking of buying a 120 from gs with the coupon but i would like to get more than the gs tradein of 15 for my hdd.

I also saw the list and Devil May Cry 4 dropped to $34.99 and Timeshift dropped to $19.99. Forgot which systems though.

I don't think they do accessories anymore. You may be better off just ebaying it or putting it on craigslist.

I asked 2 stores today if they knew about an extension or any good drops today, they said they hadn't heard anything about either.

I caved and used some store credit on one of the dark knight framed posters, looks amazing in my place.

Gonna look around for another EoJ to get more cards AND the set i got from GS is lacking the little part that the camera connects into on the top of the stand. Hope the game still gets 36 at BBV

when I was at bbv about an hour ago I didn't notice any major drops, may have missed but most games are the same price for me. The store just opened though so maybe new tags not put on or something still.

Well, i just now noticed that a copy of Pikmin that I bought from Blockbuster a few weeks ago has the case for Pikmin, but the disc for Pikmin 2. Hopefully disc only Pikmin 2's still fetch a decent amount. Just a reminder to check your games before you leave, though I guess this mistake was definitely in my favor.

BTW, found another flip for anyone looking to cash out their credit. Mario Kart for the Wii is going for up to $110 on ebay.

*Edit*

Woot, I just won a game only copy of Eye Of Judgment for $9 shipped on ebay.

I thought last time it was just a week, but I couldn't trade-in games to Blockbuster during the time of the last sale and just made purchases for myself so I don't really remember.

Traded in 4 games to BB today, here were the TIV

PS3 - Genji - $13
360 - Madden 07 $6
360 - WSOP Battle for the Bracelets 08 - $22
360 - Blacksite Area 51 - $19

Have to get everything together for my migration to GS; think I'm going to spread it out over a couple, as I've already traded in 8 game at one and I still have another 20-30 games to go.

Yeah that games doesnt fetch crap on ebay without the camera. I have seen them as low as $5.

Happened to me too, purchased Mario Tennis and got Pacman in the case... I stopped at 3 BBV to attempt to get their rental copy but was forced to drive all the way back to the original to swap it for another 14.99 game.

During the last sale I got X-Men official game for :xb: instead of :360: >_<

I usually check everything before I leave the parking lot to make sure nothing is guaranteed non-working (ie. 360 games w/ circular scratches) or incorrect.

Yup, that's what I was hinting at yesterday. Though the initial report of a 40% bonus was better (with Edge 50% total). All the $54.99 games at GS will ring up for $38.49 with the 20% off coupon and Edge.

If your BB has converted some of its SSBB rental stock ($44.99), you can move those at a slight loss.

Just traded:

Turning Point:FoL (360) - $25
Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars (360) - $15

My nearest GR hasn't been getting hit up at all for $15 games, leading me to believe I'm the only CAG that goes in there (despite reports of CAG-like behavior at another GR in the area.) Checked the following $20 360 games for price-drops, all negative: Burnout Revenge, DOA 4 and Transformers. Ended up getting Soldier of Fortune and Armored Core 4, hopefully the GS deal will be extended if I don't want to keep them. Also picked up some movies and put $5 on Force Unleashed.

Oh yeah... forgot the GS deal has already been officially been substituted.

Okay, in terms of the new drop day, I was under the impression retail prices dropped last night (Saturday after close) and TIVs drop tonight (after close). Is that correct?

So my far away blockbuster wouldn't take DBZ3. The guy said the computer didn't want it. He scanned it so there was no mix up.

Anyone get the same problem?

Well, I had a fun experience today at my local store that doesn't mark anything down because they had several games I looked over yesterday but I bought at a different location at the marked down price which I had fun with because they thought I wouldn't get them free because of them being marked over $14.99. I can honestly say that this was fun for me because I haven't had this much GS credit in a long time.

I even had the GS employees I'm cool with look at me in dismay when they saw I had almost 250 bucks worth of credit and wouldn't pre-order or buy anything with the credit.

Man...not sure what it is with the recurrence of missing discs in the Mario Power Tennis case o_O cuz the same damn thing happened to me but luckily i found a clear case at another BBV nearest to me (The one i bought the other MPT at was 70 miles away O_O) that contained Mario Tennis so i bought it and plan on returning the empty case to exchange it for something I want

If you have the one with the bonus disc then thats why....different sku.
If you have the one with the bonus disc then thats why....different sku.
Ugh, that's just ridiculous. So should I return it to GS?
I thought someone posted that the b1g1 is being extended to the 28th? so is it gonna happen?
I reported that a while ago...a managertold me it was being extended and they would possibly puill some rental games and put them for sale SUNDAY (today).
If you have the one with the bonus disc then thats why....different sku.
I traded in 2 copies with the bonus disc already. No problems yet...

Are there any like current deals/coupons for blockbuster. I want to score a copy of Manhunt 2 for the PSP, but wanted to get it a little bit cheaper. I have no Gamerush stores near me, only regular BBV.
Are there any like current deals/coupons for blockbuster. I want to score a copy of Manhunt 2 for the PSP, but wanted to get it a little bit cheaper. I have no Gamerush stores near me, only regular BBV.
Blockbuster has a movie pass where you can rent a game for as long as you want for $21.95. Thats about the only deal/coupon Blockbuster usually does.

Yep, definitely no other deals going on right now that might effect your $14.99 copy of Manhunt 2 for PSP.

Well, its not renting. Mine has like a little rack where they sell games that I guess they used to rent out but are like old now. They had like tons of GTA IVs and just one lone copy. I kick myself for not buying it cause I can't find the PSP version anywhere. I am headed back today to try to snag it.

Blockbusters return policy gives you back store credit for the value of the purchased game and that store credit can give you another buy one get one free. so you can get three games for the price of one. Found it out accidentally 15 minutes before the game stop offer ended.

watch out though only get the 2 games for buy one get one free on the return, you can ring the other stuff as a separate order but take my word for this.
might depend on the store.

I think we can make a stupid amount of money without using pretty shady tactics like returning games we got for free. I made $80 (120-40) today without using that crap. Still have 10 360 games I need to flip to GS (stupid 6pm closing time.)

Picked up a random Top Spin 2 and PSU today, as well as a copy of Pikmin 2 at BB (that actually scanned $9.99). Nothing really worth picking up to add to the BOGO for Pikmin, but I did get rid of Top Spin and PSU for $17.84 after a refurb fee.

Not a bad day, and not a bad run with the BOGO sale/T2G10. $50 in BB credit became $120 at BB and $170 at GS, Beautiful Katamari, Virtua Tennis 3, Ikaruga, and Pikmin 2. I'll take it. :)

not sure about the PSP, but was manhunt 2 even a decent game, i mean every single blockbuster i went to had 5-8 copies of manhunt 2 for the PS2 that looked like they had never been touched
Why the hell did Gamestop just raise the price of R6: Vegas 2???

http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=68427
I noticed they raised the Rockband Game Only PS3 price as well. At least the one I picked up to flip yesterday was marked at $39.99. After coupon+EDGE it ws still $27.xx. Not worth the $3 to have the credit at GS so Ill be taking that back.
Also interesting to note...I put five bucks down on Fallout 3, and the manager charged me tax on the preorder.I tried preordering Rock Band 2, but its apparently not in their system.
Yeah my preorders get tax on them as well. I wasnt sure why at first but I guess it makes sense as the $5 gets applied to your total purchase so it would be like them charging you tax on the full price later on. No biggie.
If you have the one with the bonus disc then thats why....different sku.

I traded in 2 copies with the bonus disc already. No problems yet...
Yeah I traded one with the bonus DVD and it went through fine.

On a side note I have a fun little story. I decided to do a few more flips yesterday as my last hurrah with this littel "perfect storm" we have been having. So I go to my main store that pretty much everyone knows me etc and I can practically trade anything I want no problems. I pick up 4 games that were al $9.99. But as with most BBVs the stickers werent updated in awhile. I bring them to the front. Included in this is a Tomb Raider Legend.

She scans them all and tells me that TRL isnt going to be free because its $24.99(Its stickered $29.99). I say well thats weird my brother just got the same game at a BBV near him for $9.99. She says nope it just scanned at $24.99, it was a different BBV so that is probably why. So I just say ok no problem and remove that and one other game. Buy the other two and head out to the next BBV.

I go to that one and while flipping through games I see a copy of Tomb Raider Anniversary and the tag is $24.99. I think hmmmm I wonder if the other one has a TRA barcode on it by accident. So I finish my other BBV stops and decide to stop by my main BBV on the way home to give it a look see.

I check out the game what do you know, the barcode was for TRA. So I point this out and they laugh about it and say no problem and change it to TRL and $9.99. So I walk out with the two games I had picked out previously.

I get home to take the stickers off and clean all the discs before bringing them to GS and I open up the TRL case and what do I see? Freaking TRA disc AND manual. LMFAO. So the barcode was right for the game and manual it was the COVERART insert that was wrong hahahaha.

Turns out base price for TRA is $8 compared to base price of $4 for TRL. $4 win for me. :D

Just thought it was funny.

Thats not ethical though to return something to the same place in order to profit. Stuff like that could get our flipping stopped.

Edit Slow Posting Owns Me......

I really wouldn't recommend doing that. This is already a good enough deal, and such shenanigans are a good way to get banned from BBV, or if on a large scale, have BBV revoke the deal (like Target did with the $5off$25 coupons).
