Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
Blockbusters return policy gives you back store credit for the value of the purchased game and that store credit can give you another buy one get one free. so you can get three games for the price of one. Found it out accidentally 15 minutes before the game stop offer ended.

watch out though only get the 2 games for buy one get one free on the return, you can ring the other stuff as a separate order but take my word for this.
might depend on the store.
Hopefully the 50% deal at GS is true. If you could find 5 games to trade from BB->GS it won't be bad if you could at least break even. Now... to find a manager that would accept duplicates of games.
not sure about the PSP, but was manhunt 2 even a decent game, i mean every single blockbuster i went to had 5-8 copies of manhunt 2 for the PS2 that looked like they had never been touched
People said it was better on the Wii, but I can't even find that. I just think it looks interesting.

Manhunt 2 looks to be pretty fun on the PSP...I traded my copy in at BB months ago and never played it....maybe I'll pick it up for $14.99 with ATV Offroad Fury Pro or Dungeon Siege.

I was able to trade-in multiples with the $10 deal so it is YMMV but I made sure that they were the first and last games scanned.

I know. The Wii version has a couple different melee weapons and more ammo. The ammo is there, cause on the PS2 and PSP there is a targeting system that is not on the Wii.

got denied again today with the $15 bonus promo, the guy saw my printout and knew it was for NCA 09 only, So I got it anyways but gonna keep it sealed and return it later
Well, its not renting. Mine has like a little rack where they sell games that I guess they used to rent out but are like old now. They had like tons of GTA IVs and just one lone copy. I kick myself for not buying it cause I can't find the PSP version anywhere. I am headed back today to try to snag it.
I was only teasing you, i figured someone wouldve told you, or you would've read the title of the thread. If you buy Manhunt 2 for PSP you can get any other $14.99 or less game for free, making them $7.50 each. If you happen to find a copy of Pikmin 2 or MGS: Twin Snakes, sell that badboy on eBay for $30 and you pretty much got Manhunt 2 for free.

For the love of christ, got home and checked and Pirates of the Caribbean didn't have the cd in the case and every other game I bought today (over 28) did. Gonna have to go back tomorrow and sort out shenanigans

So wait. You bought 28 games today from BBV to flip to GS tomorrow? Ummmm you realize the $10 promo is over right? Youre going to take a nasty hit on those games.

Unless he's planning to actually play them.

Since the Blockbuster and Gamestop sale/trade-in started, I don't remember the last time I bought games to actually play them.

I'm sure this has been posted, but does the Blockbuster BOGO deal last through Monday or was it over today?

The $15 bonus is good until 8/17. We're still going strong.
The $15 bonus is good until 8/17. We're still going strong.
Isn't it only effective for only 2 games?
The $15 bonus is good until 8/17. We're still going strong.
lol

1) Not everyone has fantasy GS's where they can do anything they want like you do ;)

2) Even if he was allowed to use a printout he would have to go to 14 different GS's to trade in his games.

3) Im sure most of his games ont even qualify for the $15 promo.
The $15 bonus is good until 8/17. We're still going strong.
But the B1G1 only lasts til tomorrow;). Leave it to Kunai to stock up on 30+ games.

Just a quick question though. Do GS's give you a hard time with that coupon? I stopped using it after I was denied twice.
only 2 games only multiple times ;)
So if I trade in 8 games (that meet the requirements) all 8 games would get the extra bonus with only the coupon code? I've been thinking it only works for the first two games of the trade =/

No I only have 12 left, the rest I traded already. I am returning 5 tomorrow and trading the others with higher price TIVs to put a preorder for fallout 3 CE in. I mean, I was going to get it anyways so no harm done. Maybe I'll look at that coupon for $15, I'm sure a couple of the 12 I have are on that list. Thanks for reminding me.
So if I trade in 8 games (that meet the requirements) all 8 games would get the extra bonus with only the coupon code? I've been thinking it only works for the first two games of the trade =/
IF they let you use the printout coupon, they will only apply to TWO games. If you try to do more games they will all revert to the other promo going on (was the $10...now will be the %)

Anyone have the link for that $15 coupon and tips on using it? I assume that times it works the person ringing you up didn't cause a commotion?

Thanks guys! Flipping was great. Still have enough credit to last me till next year. So...what did you guys end up buying? I'm pretty happy with my haul :applause:

YMMV on that, since NCA 09 is out, most employees probably know that it's good for that only
YMMV on that, since NCA 09 is out, most employees probably know that it's good for that only
What are you talking about? Good for what exactly? The coupon is something you "got" for preorderig NCAA 09. You can use the $15 (plus base TIV) from whatever 2 games you trade in on ANYTHING. If any employee tells you otherwise they are WRONG.

Was it ever released publicly or just a well guarded secret? Checked back about 9 pages but my eye didn't pass over it.
Was it ever released publicly or just a well guarded secret?
It's a secret to everyone. Also, Dodongo dislikes smoke.

The actual coupon that stores received to use with NCAA 09 specifically state its for pre-ordering NCAA 09, and even though the "other" coupon doesn't say anything about NCAA 09, they pretty much all know what its for. I only had one employee (out of a dozen or so) ask me about NCAA 09, he asked how I liked it and I just told him I didn't pre-order it and I found the coupon on the net, he went ahead and let me use it anyway. Most have just stated they know if was for NCAA 09 but they will let me use it anyway. For the most part I've been avoiding $14.99 games anyway because its a hassle to attempt to use the coupon (since you can only trade in those 2 games, or else it'll go back down to a $10 bonus). Some managers are super cool and will let me trade in a pile of 10 $9.99 games and then do another trade in for 2 games with the coupon. Its all very YMMV. I've only be flat-out rejected on the $15 bonus coupon twice (out of about 15-20 attempts).

Today I actually found a BB in my area that I had never been to, it was a real shock to find it, scored Mario Power Tennis and Twilight Princess there :)

Um unless I missed it you RECEIVE the coupon IF you preorder NCAA09. Then you can use the coupon anytime you want in the future (within expiration date) to trade in any 2 games and get the bonus $15 in credit in which you can put that towards ANYTHING.

If it was the way you are explaining it why would the coupon have an EX date of 8/17? When the preordering NCAA09 time period is OBVIOUSLY over now that its out.

Hell I probably would have pre-ordered it and returned it and kept that card, since it would have been a lot easier and more reliable. I figured it was just for using the trade-in's you brought in when you pre-ordered that day. Either way using the print out of the coupon is very YMMV.
ok after all the trading for my last two weeks, what can i do with $100 credit from BB now?
preorder, or buy something?
preorder, or buy something?
what should i buy? i was thinking about PS2 memory card, but i just cant bring myself to get one for 24.99 when i can get one from ebay around 15
what should i buy? i was thinking about PS2 memory card, but i just cant bring myself to get one for 24.99 when i can get one from ebay around 15
You can get a brand new 16 MB PS2 memory card for the same price at Walmart my friend.

I recently won a Xbox 360 in a drawing while attending a convention for work. Along with the 360, I got a wireless controller, a copy of History Channel:CW and a copy of NHL 07. I ended up flipping the copies of HC:CW and NHL 07 into $66.xx credit at BB and $28.xx at GS (thanks to BS:A51). :D

Sorry for the bragging and the OT but just wanted to share.

After thinking about it for a while, I thought that since the flip ratio was so much better from GS --> BB, I should have just kept enough credit there to get a psp, but I dont think they are getting the madden blue one that i wanted. But I'm sure they had a GOW one that I saw. After thinking about it more, for like $120 GS credit I could have gotten a psp at BB. Ehh, oh well, not a big deal now. I'm just glad this bonus ended so I can get on to playing games on the weekends instead of flippin. :)

I preordered the Madden PSP at GS during all the flipping and kept thinking to myself if I could have found one at a Blockbuster, or could I flip something to get it at a better deal. At some point you got to splurge and just get yourself something with the credit, whether at GS or BB.

the blue right ?, maybe available by pre-order at bbvideos
but Gamerush might have it.

i'll checked tomorrow

my gamerush has every console for sale, even a Gamecube lol

exactly, I felt like I gotta use this credit for something. And I then read a few article about the psp and thought I gotta get one with all this credit. I told the guy at GS that I wanted one, and he start plugging his GOW one and blah blah, and then mentioned that the madden one wouldn't have a silkscreen on the back. I like the blue one but I would have hated it if it had NFL or Madden slapped on the back. So I just said fine, paid it off and that was it. I still have enough GS credit for more than what I need.

So I have been in hawaii for the last two weeks, and boy the opportunities for any flipping between GR and GS was totally crap. I did see brand new PS2 memory cards on sale for 9.99 so I bought 2. This was at the ala moana GR in case there are any CAGers also in hawaii. So for about 22 in GR credit, which cost me about $5 in cash, I think it was awesome. But not as awesome as some of the crazy flipping multipliers some have been pulling off, which I am totally jealous of, so congrats.
I'm just glad this bonus ended so I can get on to playing games on the weekends instead of flippin. :)
LOL well said. I've had work for the past 7 days from 11pm - 7am, so my days for the past week involved waking up at 2, showering, packing up my kid, heading out to flip until 9pm, returning home to drop off kid, and go to work. I'm so glad I finally have a few days off and the flipping is over. Did manage to get one last flip in 10 minutes before Gamestop closed due to a Blockbuster restocking their games out of the blue and made $40. It's only my 2nd month of flipping, but I don't think I'll top what I made this month. I'll use spoilers for all the haters of bragging, even though it is part of the discussion.

Good lord, are those all from the Blockbuster B1G1 or did you just pick them up at GS with credit? If BB, I assume that's a GR haul because no BB's have nearly that many PSP titles. I mean, I went to several untouched stores (based on seeing BK, EDF, and a bunch of other 360 stuff there) and all I ever saw for the PSP was Star Trek, VT3, Manhunt 2, Brunswick Bowling, and maybe a couple others. And every store has the same ones (all converted rentals I assume). I was hoping maybe they'll convert a few more PSP rentals for this week so I could actually get some stuff for myself. But we've heard next to nothing about new titles added to the sale (or even current sale stuff converted from rentals).
