Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Hmmm...i think i can still use coupons on purchases as long as i don't use my EDGE discount card.
BANNED!

LOL. I got banned from using coupons at Gamestop. Im in the Los Angeles area. I was using the 20% coupon and the attendant saw the note from the DM. He first said I couldn't use photocopies of the 20% coupon anymore. I told him it was an email coupon. But then he looked at his screen again and said I couldn't use any coupons at all. He's always been really cool with me and let me use the coupon this one last time :(

- I must have used the 20% on 4 separate occasions.
- The $15 bonus coupon must have been at least 12. Doh! :shame:
3 of my blockbuster's were not taking trade in's. It was really weird. They said they got a call from corporate and probably wouldn't do trade in's for a couple of weeks. Luckily, other bb's were doing trade in's.

Yea the guy said my balance out loud yesterday but I didn't really care. I'm not in a bad part of town though so I don't know if that was some of the concerns people had here.

VT 3 for the ps3 is 7.98 B1G1 half off from TRU comes out to $12.xx plus tax. TIV is $13 each at BBV
NHL 2k8 for the ps3 is same price. TIV is $9 each

They do that every time to me at gamestop. I was at a GS near detroit, which was pretty packed, and the guy at the register said that i had $47x in store credit...i ran to my car.

"something's not right in river city..."
Please stop highlighting the good flips. The op does a great job keeping the post updated.
Let's not ruin a good thing by highlighting the obvious and bragging.

and while I appreciate the effort...it is really a questionable idea to post an excel spreadsheet. Just keep it simple don't post business tools with all the unrest, banning and focus from corporate. In this economy they will be scrambling for any and every opportunity....let's keep this as insignificant as possible.

Op, I for one, would support your edits, deletions where ever you see fit....

I'm going to remove the flippables sheet and just keep it to TIVs. It will please donut and the corporate offices in case they have lurkers (don't want to lose a good thing here.)

For roughly $50 with this promotion you can get Sega Rally Revo, Stranglehold, Tomb Raider: Legend, Beautiful Katamari, F.E.A.R., LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, King Kong, and Prey.

Ok, since Gamestop apparently doesn't want anyone to be aware of their used Octomania supply via their website, could someone please comment on the general chances of finding it at a store. I've got about 4 Gamestops I could check on the way to GR, and seemingly no other flippers in the area. So it's all a question of general sales and psysical quantity.

Also, is the current Gamestop coupon still usable on the expiration date (24th), or is that the date they stop accepting them? Plus, any news yet on Gamestop's next coupon?

Yes, I believe that you can.
Yes, I believe that you can.
Sorry I'm not talking about picking up 20 copies of a game from Toys R Us then flipping it for a profit at Blockbuster, then buying games, then trading those into Gamestop. Then buying PS3's.

octomania has been by far the hardest game to find IMO. I have not seen one yet. The coupons are valid from friday - thursday, then a new one comes out for friday. So its fine on 7/24. But ive usd too many of thsoe, so I'll wait til next week. I hope its a psp coupon, I need some games for when my psp comes in.

Finding Octomania at GS and used is going to be one hell of a feat. Best Buy sells it for $9.99 new though.

MTR for PS2 is $6.99 at GS btw.

I have yet to see a used one at any GS. New (gutted) ones are at pretty much every GS though. The coupon is still valid on Thurs 24, yes. All the weekly coupons run from Friday to Thursday.

i called gamestop and asked them if they had it and the nearest location in stock used was in Louisiana (i am in houston). so i pretty much called it quits trying to find that game

And to correct my last statement.

My BBV's do have PSP games. They weren't where I would expect them to be though. They had around 8 games or so. Most of them games I can flip. The only complaint I have about PSP games are the wide price ranges. Anywhere from 4.99 to 14.99. Really annoying trying to pair them up.

The Golden Compass (PS2) has a base TIV of $4 at GS, it only costs $5 at BBGR so this is a good candidate.

Resident Evil 4 (PS2) has a base TIV of $5 at GS but cost $15 at BBGR.

As reported earlier, Manhunt 2 (PSP) has a base TIV of $10 and only costs $15 at BBGR.

I didn't pickup any Manhunt 2 (PS2) to check although I saw plenty of those.

Douchebag manager at BBGR tried to pair my 14.99 games with my 4.99 games. Even though I handed them to him the other way. I asked him to ring them up 14.99/14.99 and 4.99/4.99 and he said it wouldn't matter. I then asked him for separate transactions and he obliged. It was very clear to me he knew what he was doing when he separated them the way he did. Always watch out for yourself folks.

Also, if there are some games that you want to buy but are only marked for rental, it is worth a shot to ask the manager on duty if you can buy the rental game as part of the promotion. This of course is YMMV.

Tomorrow is going to be fun :). My BB's have alot of these.

So many BBV around here have already been cleaned out, just checked out one near my brother's school, and theres a bunch of various fliped titles, a good sign that its been cleaned.

I got a guy that was separating them on me too but I believe he did it to my advantage. I don't see why they don't want to help people. Perhaps they don't know.

Yeah, I hit up a BB by the second Gamecrazy I had to go to (to price match the $33 FF IV price from Fry's since my main GC didn't have any more :bomb:). Since I wasn't really expecting to go to BB I didn't have a price list with me but I remembered Irridium Runners thanks to CAG and thought Golden Compass might be good to pair that up with. There are a lot more $4.99/$6.99 PS2 titles, though, so we need to get busy checking those out. I'll go to my local store tomorrow and try to write everything down as a start - but they don't have that much.

I also found a Brunswick Bowling PSP that I knew was a decent one. But I couldn't find anything else that was $6.99 that I knew was good. Finally I found Platypus marked $19.99. I figured that was a $14.99 or $9.99 game and I'd have to find something else to pair it with but it came up $6.99 so that worked nicely. I passed on the Manhunt 2 for $14.99 because I didn't have time to search for another $14.99 game to go with it. Oh well, it was kind of fun looking at stuff other than the 360 games. I might keep Platypus, so that leaves me with just 3 to trade (Golden Compass, Irridium Runners, and Brunswick Bowling). Now I'm committed to hitting up at least one more BBV to get another 2 games for the promo .

I know it is always hit or miss with these things, but all 4 games that I got were nearly mint - maybe rented once or twice and that's it. I figured the PS2 games would be beat to hell, but I guess it is just a matter of whether anyone was interested in those titles. It appears Irridium Runners is the Beautiful Katamari of this phase of the sale though - each store will have one converted rental.

Oh, and by the way it appears there will be no luck trading the PSP games into Gamecrazy (unless, perhaps, you price match the BBV trade-ins on them ;)). These are the GC trade-ins: Astonishia $1.55, Avatar $2.25, VT3 $2.25, Brunswick Bowling $2.60, Star Trek $2.25. Very very pathetic... They are becoming what we all used to think Gamestop was ;).

Alright, I've made up my mind...

Going to recon for a used Octomania copy tomorrow.

Either way this copy of Soldier of Fortune: Payback is going to the dogs; it's all I've been playing, and if I don't take some decisive action now I'm bound to finish it. This way I'll be forcing myslef to invest my time into something that will actually have a..... payback.
So you guys are buying from BB then flipping at GR? i am new to flipping T_T
No no no no... BAD idea there ;). BB -> GS, as in Gamestop...

For me it isn't so much about the flipping at this point (now that the $10 promo is dead at GS). I want to search for some of these PSP games but that isn't enough to get me to check out several BBV stores. But if I can combine the search for my own PSP games with the search for a few flippables, then it makes it worth it (and more fun I might add). Plus, the availability of flippables lets me buy things I want paired up with things I don't. For example, I wanted Platypus, but not Brunswick Bowling. So I get Platypus for $3.50 in dirt cheap BBV credit and the bowling game goes into the GS pile.

Now if I could just find a Star Wars Renegade Squadron (to keep) paired up with a Manhunt 2 (to trade to GS)...

Where the fuck is F.E.A.R. on the list?
Coupon excludes "video game software and video game hardware". So YMMV.
there's 3 coupons, the second one down is for video games.

Thanks for the link. I stand corrected.
yeah, i dont think fear is a b1g1 game.
It's not. I had it price checked, and it came up $19.99.
is conan still 14.99? I saw it as 16.99 today...
I think its 16.99 for the PS3, for the 360 (as of sat.) it is 14.99. Also you shouldn't have a problem using the coupon on octomania, I've used the 10% at best buy coupon on clearance games and it worked...and I think thats the normal price for octomania at BB anyways.

BB purchase prices
PSP
Luxor Wrath $9.99
Mercury Meltdown $6.99
Bubble Bobble Evolution $9.99
Full Auto 2 $14.99
After Burner $14.99
anyone know the trade in value for assassins creed and nba 08 for ps3
Call your local store and let us know please

lol I felt kind of the same way when the trade 2 get $10 promo was going on. It was actually kinda fun for me to go to all the different BBs just to see which games they would have.

It was NOT fun, however, discovering when I got home that some of the games that I bought wouldn't even have the game disc inside. Sad part is I would find something like that at 2 out of every 3 blockbuster I'd go to.

Nonetheless, finding Meet the Robinsons marked at $19.99 and have it ring up for $6.99 only to see the surprised look on the cashier's face is kinda priceless.

Trying to make two sets of 5 for the gamestop promo.
Hit one Blockbuster that only had two Solider of Fortune's that were worth getting. They were marked $19.99 and $34.99.
I had one scanned and it was $14.99(duh), so i hand him the second and tell him i'll take both. He scans both, hits total, $14.99 comes off.
He scans one of them again and tells me it's $32.xx!
Moron, there is a sale on!
He thought the -$14.99 on the second one was a mistake.
No buddy, your job performance was.
Guess he was suprised teh two games that were marked for $54.xx were only going to be $15.xx

Here's some GameStop price reporting
BB --> GS Base --> +30%
:ps2: Golden Compass $4.99 --> 4.00 --> 5.20
:ps2: Iridium Runners $4.99 --> 5.00 --> 6.50
:psp: Manhunt 2 $14.99 --> 10.00 --> 13.00
:gc: Spongebob: Lights, Camera, Pants $6.99 --> 2.50 --> 3.25
:psp: Pro Stroke Golf $6.99 --> 4.00 --> 5.20

...wait. cocksucker didn't put my Edge bonus in.

I swear I'm starting to hate that store.

Na man, Manhunt 2 is actually a good game for the price. Is Renegade Squadron out for sale at BBV used???

Probably old news, but FF4ROTSS Wii is now marked "clearance" at BB at 29.99 new. I suppose that explains why it wouldn't scan the other night. Looks like that $20 TIV is going to plummet.

I think when it hits $5 used or less I might buy one and frame it. You know, to remind me of the game that started this BBV/GS madness, lol.
my local blockbuster said the sale was over? is the 8/4 date nationwide? or is it select stores?
Nationwide. Go buy 2 games and it should ring up automatically. That's how I tested it out at my local BB.

And this new promotion sucks. I thought having to put to memory most of the 360 games before was a bitch. Now I have to remember a shitload of games across all platforms except Wii and PS3. DAMN THIS! Hopefully, all the idiots who ruined it for all of us have stopped flipping...
