ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Based on the update from last week the updates appear to go into effect at 12:00 AM EST.

Folks on the east coast report trading HoV for $32 at 10 EST, however west coasters reported the $25 value after 9 CST.

Yeah, I can confirm a price drop went into effect BEFORE 9:30pm PST (likely 9:00pm PST)
 
Looks like I traded in my games at a franchise instead of corporate location! Yay for me losing $25 bucks. I guess it doesn't matter considering I cant trade in at a corporate location anyways.

If the price of that damn PS3 drops 100 bucks I am gonna be pissed!

BTW, got BB to price adjust that PMR later last night and it ended up costing 3.24 after tax! Dude was like wow, you got 50.xx back! (It was 50 @ BB and PMed CC's 7.50 after purchase). That BB gave me a little difficulty since it hadn't been in their system for a while apparently.

I would suggest checking that at least once a day to make sure you don't miss them next time.

As for a $100 drop on the 80GB. If this means they'll drop that bundle to $499.99 I might get that then. I'd prefer they drop the 40GB to $299.99 though, now that I know of a regular BB that sells them. All they have are 80GB in the stupid bundles ($600) or the 40GB plain ($400) and both are too expensive - not to mention I don't have enough credit for either and would need to build it back up again which would take some work...

Should I try to do 2 copies of pimp my ride when I go in tonight?

Seriously, if yuo've only got one store left you can trade at, don't risk multiples. In fact, I'd even space out the two PMRs a week apart or something and try trading in other games in between.

io, you know I've been pondering the 40 vs 80 gig question, and I think if extra cost is not the issue, then the 80 is the way to go. The reason I've come to this conclusion is that, like microsoft, Sony are pushing the living room experience, and I've seen indications that they will support a DVR like offering in the future (for their IPTV solution). Their dashboard already looks suspiciously a lot like Media Center. Personally I'm waiting to see what summer brings, as I suspect both a new hd size and price are in the future.

Just my 2 cents.

T_T Sadly it happened to me last week... I could have had $7 more for HoV if I went in ~ 34 minutes earlier...

Oh well, at least we know how to check next weeks prices...

Yeah, I waited for the Elite for the 360 so anything less than a 120 GB HD seems small to me ;). I've heard the rumor of the 120 GB PS3 and the price drops and all that which is why I have no problem waiting. In the mean time, I'll be patient and only take advantage of 3x and 4x trade-in opportunities. If BB keeps coming up with things like the SSBB preorder (maybe on Mario Kart as well) then I can continue to burn my BB credit on those things and save my EB and GC credit for the cheaper/better PS3 later. If not (no opportunities to spend more BB credit) I'll get a PS3 there later. So it ought to work out either way.
 
I have $750 in credit. I have bought 4 DS's on top of that. what should I get now? I have seen all types of ps3/bundles and 1 halo 3 xbox and 1 elite. I can't find anymore DS's so what do I get now?

Well, true 4x have been rare and are mostly on the cheaper stuff ($3->$12 for example) but Monster Madness and Beowulf for the PS3 came pretty close (3.56x and 3.6x). Those are the kinds of things I'll wait for. A 2x doesn't cut it for me with the time/effort/gas/banning potential making it all considerably less than 2x.

Well I was able to trade in 1 copy of pimp my ride. Ended up getting 15 for it so I am at 65 and still have 2 copies left. I am gonna have to stock up on single games and take all of them in at the same time. Only I cant take in HOV, THE BIGS, FORZA or MUA any ideas?

I have to get enough credit so that I can get another PS3 without trading in multiple copies of games.

Elites are a solid Ebay item right now if you want to convert credit to cash. They are selling $100+ above MSRP.
 
Defined...No issues other than the local BBs are on to any printed covers...so dont print out any covers...

I would just follow the tips in the thread and try not to flip 2 copys at each location...

Where in South Bay are you?
 
:wall:dude give it up.... you would be better off trying to flip games at GS. Ever think that you are ruining it for the rest of us by pushing the limit. They have you under a microscope right now. Also you asked how you avoid getting banned, simple answer don't do what you did. Kunai Overdose....at it's worse...

I'll agree here. I am an avid GR flipper, I have aquired well over $1k-$2k in the past 6 months. (Flipped a bit a long time ago, Mark Eckoish, not as vet as other users). I am running off 3 accounts, 1 is my girlfriends, 2 of them are my own.

It seems my gfs was banned for next to nothing, she rarely flipped, but we flipped maybe 2 titles per store during the Beowulf, and it seems she *might* be banned at one store, haven't checked the others, we really haven't had the need to.

I am flipping only 1 title per store, maybe 2 if it is RARE I visit the store. (ie. Going to a store 20 miles off my commute) I have yet to be banned, and one of the stores actually loves me because I keep taunting them with the possibility of purchasing a Blockbuster Rewards card.

Keep it under the radar, don't flip if it is not worth your time. I usually flip 2-6 games at a time, all different. Rarely will I actually go in and trade just 1 title, like Pimp My Ride. Its not worth my time to net $7.50. I'll go if I can tack on MUA/Forza 2 and Pimp My Ride. =D

I never used printed covers, just call ahead and ask if they will take a "ripped" cover art, if no, skip it. Like previously stated, printed arts seem to attract attention to copied titles. At least I'm considered a shoplifter that trades working games, I'm not the bootlegger that sells illegal and non-working titles. =X

Is there a difference in how much they give you for a trade in for a used game vs. a new one?

I would imagine so but I saw nothing on the OP or the wiki about it.

If not, I'm intently looking at my Gamefly flipping options (i.e. Two Worlds sells used $19.99 and trades for $32 as of last month).

NO! In fact, they will look at you funny if you try to trade in a new game - it is not recommended ;). Open them first (once you are sure of the trade-in value, anyway). I mean, I'd often go in and ask for a few trade-in prices, then say, "cool, I have those in my car - I'll be right back". Then I'd go out to the car, open them, swtich the cases out (since I got a boatload of DVD cases from my GR store and would prefer to keep the new game cases of which I now have a never-ending supply), then go in and trade.

Others, including DJKunai, will say they have no problem trading in sealed games. That may be so on a case-by-case basis, but bringing them in sealed just adds the potential element for suspicion (ie, that you just jacked them from Walmart or something).

As for anything on the Wiki from "last month" just be aware that prices may have changed since then - always call yourself if a price isn't being actively quoted in this thread.

My store had that also....sadly Blockbuster has not had a used game sale in forever.

Yes, Uncharted is fantastic. Considering you probably only paid like $25 or so to get $55 credit, I wholeheartedly recommend it.

How do I add to this thread? I just traded the PS3 versions of Madden 08 ($30) and NCAA 08 ($23) at Blockbuster (non-gamecrazy) last week.
 
Anyone know the pricing difference of franchises and corporate stores. I traded in 5 copies of pimp my ride the other day and only got 10 apiece. Traded in 1 copy of pimp my ride last night and got 15.

How can I go about opening another account? Would it be possible to open another account and only trade at stores I haven't opened trading agreements with yet?

I read back about 15 pages, and I can only assume that people are printing covers because they are buying used games at one location (with a generic cover) and printing out the actual cover to trade into another location - right?

You'll need to use a different driver's license to open a second account. Use your dad's license or your mom's or something.

In my area the account is tied to the store. So just go to a new store and open a new trading account.

The rental account is universal, but the trading account is unique per store.
