ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Just got an email about 15 minutes ago. Intresting seeing as they have some good titles up for grabs.
Actually, in your post you said "The BB I work at is currently taking pre-orders on the new WII Mario Smash Brothers, and we did Halo 3 last year." You didn't say when SSBB preorders started ;). If it has been going on for a few weeks (or even the beginning of last week) then it is probably not happening at my local stores that sell new games because they had none of the promo stuff up last weekend when I was at the biggest one. I mean, this poster in the window of the MD store was ENORMOUS - it practically covered an entire window and I could see it easily while driving by. Did you guys put up something like this? If not, I suppose it is possible my local stores are doing this too but just not advertizing it in any way (which, clearly, is pretty stupid).
Ah yes, IO, you are correct. Please ignore my ill-founded sarcasm!

We have generally 30 in the Western NY, Buffalo area and IVe been to about half. Some have the big poster, our store and other ones did not. But all of them are doing the preorder whether they advertise it or not. We have a small blue sheet of paper near the WII section, tahts all we got :)

We also got a new PS3 bundle that started last week, and there are 2 store selling brand new DS's in our area still. All non GR locations as we have no GR anywhere near us.
Does anyone know if Blockbuster pricematches sales?

I ask because I just bought the Rock Band bundle last night for $169, and it appears Target will have it for $149 the Sunday after this one. Probably a huge longshot (seeing as they tend to sell DVD's for $5 more than most stores), but it's worth asking.
I asked last week and they said no. My BB/GR is pretty liberal, too.

I swung into my local crappy blockbuster tonight, they have no new games for sale, but it is the same store I preordered Halo 3 from. Sure enough, they have SSBB available and I preordered it.

I cashed out another $100 in giftcards tonight. The store had some giant paintings of various movies for sale (300, Beowulf, Terminator, and a random Halo 3 and Pokemon).

The new terminator series? Or the old movies?

Anyone know what I can get for:

Orange Box 360
Naruto 360
Super Paper Mario Wii
Trauma Center 2nd Opinion Wii
More Walmart clearance goodness. I went back and picked up some of the other wii 2 packs they were clearing out for 17$ (20 at another Walmart local to me, so the price is YMMV). The games all trade for 16$

They are:

Mini Desktop Racing
Monster Trux: Arena
Off Road Exteme
Counter Force

I picked up 4 of each pack 2 pack (There were at least 20 more packs), so I'm looking at an easy 150$ profit once I spread the love around my blockbusters. I also took a copy of the the Billy Wizard and Ninja Breadman to GameCrazy and made them price match GR, it's funny how hard they squirm before agreeing that the price match policy is a corporate policy. I plan on taking another 4 of the above games to trade tomorrow night. I wonder how they would feel about me trading multiple copies of the same game.

Ghost recon traded at GR for 12$ not bad for a really old game.
I went to my Wal-Mart today and couldn't find any trace of these mythical 2-pack Wii games. Do you know if those things are YMMV?

Everything is YMMV, but both Walmarts local to me have them, at different prices. My store also has wii lunch boxes, game packs and wii controller gloves all on clearance.

yeah I saw those but oddly didn't see the 2 pack games like you saw. They had them for the Gamecube and PS2 but no Wii packs. Oh well.

In other news, I saw Def Jam Icon on clearance at my local Target for 12.97. Possible kunai opportunity anyone?

Probably not.... the wiki shows the 360 version at $15 back in October.
Where is everyone getting HoV for cheap?
It's only $20 MSRP now, so I think most are just using the GS 10% newsletter coupon to get it for $18 + tax.

Yeah, I am tired of messing with cutting covers, cases and the Forza/MUA flip, even if it is slightly better. I have a load of best buy gc's that I am going to use to buy a couple of HOV's and Alvin's to flip. Gonna go get bioshock @ FYE today also to flip.

So are they any good trade-ins from EB Games w/this 25% off Used Xbox 360/Xbox games? I know im going to grab HoV as SOON as i get off work but are there any others?

Picked up my DMC4 for 360 at lunch.

Also traded Marvel Alliance for Wii --- shockingly, $23!! Not sure where this is cheap, but it's $17.99 at GameStop, not a great flip but with Edge/coupons it might be a decent return.

Just a heads up in case you're blind.... there's a new thread with a new GS coupon that gets 25% off any Xbox 360 or Xbox used games. Good for picking up HoV, The Darkness, MUA/Forza2, etc.

Unfortunately, I just got back from GS and BB before I saw it. But I traded in some stuff and picked up 3 MUA/Forza packs. Basically turned Ratchet and Clank Future: ToD and Harry Potter Wii into $111 BB credit when all is said and done. Not too shabby. The clerk was even nice enough to give me some empty generic cases when I asked.

When i go in later im going to check Motorstorm, apparently its the used game of the week at GS and after all discounts it comes to around 16.50.

I may use the coupon to get HoV at GameStop...nice flip. Will see what else they have. The Darkness is $27 USED according to the website, so not THAT great of a flip.

Well if you use the 25% off coupon, and the edge card it comes to 17.55 plus tax and if it still trades for 32 its pretty solid. Especially since all stores near me have 4+ copies of it, versus the 1 of HoV most stores have (around me atleast).
i wanna ask my local GameStop if they have any of these MUA/Forza 2 games...but what exactly do i call and ask the clerk working there?
"Do you have any of the Forza 2 / Marvel 2-pack bundles?"

The Bigs for 360 gets $32 at BB/GR (I just called and asked).

With Edge and 25% off coupon it comes to 16.25 + tax, so a good double-your-money flip. I'd rather do HoV but no GS near me has it used (probably because I cleaned out the few they had a while back).

For those that are math-phobic... you can now pick up the MUA/Forza 2 pack for $13 + tax after Edge and coupon. HoV would come to $11.70 + tax.

I just got back from flipping 2 HoV's that I bought @ best buy w/ 10% off coupon and now the GS 25% off..... Def. gonna do the MUA/Forza 2 flip with this one... i have $335 in credit on a value card and after I trade in The Bigs, Madden 08, Forza and MUA I will have..... around $440!! That should be enough for a Wii and a few games!!!!!

How much does madden get? Also congrats!!! :applause:

Picked up my DMC CE for PS3 that I preordered for 59.99. The game was marked 79.99 but since I had paid it off, she didn't even ask questions. Just hit the key to deliver and I got it. So, if you preordered it and paid it off when it was 59.99, chances are you will get the discounted price!

Now to return the one I got from Gamestop at full price...
last time I saw anything it (madden 08) was still $32..

yes, HoV is still $32!!!!
I hate asking but I can't call at work and the wiki isn't completely current. Thank you!
monster madness still around 30 trade in ? apparently its $3 at kmart.
That Kmart drop IS NOT universal. It's still $20 around me. Which is still a profitable flip, but not enough for me to turn real $$ into BB $$.
ok thx, but did the trade in hold? if i get it for 3
He just called 20 dollars a profitable flip so it sounds like a go.

Well, I picked up one HoV for $14.30 AC (I do NOT have an EDGE card...as I rarely buy games from EB/GameStop).

Traded in for $32 and I picked up a second Wii Classic Controller since I only have one and Wii VC games REQUIRE it....

Hmmmm Lost Odyssey... What are the odds that they will carry that? If they do I might have to turn some real money into BB money.

anyone know if there are any gamerushes in sacramento,CA?

Can't seem to find one. All i see are normal blockbusters, gamecrazy, and gamestop.
They print off the covers for each one.
That's what I thought, was already printing out covers but wanted to confirm. Hopefully they won't give me a hassle w/ a printed cover

I just went to another BB to trade games in. Heres today trade in value:

Hour of Victory - 32
Darkness - 32 Xbox 360

Forza/MUA is still the best kunai out there. Just used the 25% off to get MUA/Forza 2 to flip on Monday w/The Bigs and Madden 08. I flipped 2 HoV's today also. :)
