ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
GC Metroid Prime 2: $9.99 (free)
Wow, didn't know MP2 was down to $9.99 there. However, I doubt I'll find one.
^^great haul, but is there really a Vagrant Story 2?
Haha, good point. Valkyrie Profile 2. I always get those two confused.
Local BB/GR stated that only older generation games were applicable towards the sale (no Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3 games).
That's false.... there's a handful of 360 games that are $14.99 and $9.99.
That's false.... there's a handful of 360 games that are $14.99 and $9.99.
I thought so too but it came directly from the store manager.
Not willing to waste time or effort in arguing over it.
That's false.... there's a handful of 360 games that are $14.99 and $9.99.
As far as "next gen" goes with this sale, it really does seem to be just the 360. Unlike what I had been told by a manager, Wii and PS3 games were "marked up" to avoid being part of the sale. I think some of that may have to do with the fact that (at least at my local GR stores) there is a lot less used inventory for those systems. For the 360, there's games that have been out for years now and so they've got some they probably want to get rid of.

My local GR actually pulled out all of the $9.99 and $14.99 Xbox 360 games and put them in a separate area they designated for the sale.

picked up:

360 chromehounds and earth defense force for $10.81. im hoping there will eventually be another trade in promo at gamestop. it'll be nice to convert bb credit to gs credit.

on another note, i noticed they raised the prices for wii titles from 14.99 to 16.99 so they wouldn't qualify, bastards.

One of my local Blockbusters was running the B1G1 on $14.99 or less titles. Picked up (Xbox 360) The Outfit (looks brand new) and Tomb Raider Legends for $15. Those were the only tiles that interested me. Selection wasn't bad for PS2 & Xbox games, but the next gen stuff was lacking.
Anyone know the trade in for PS3 NHL 2K8 (15$ Clearance at Target)
Being nice -- $23 as of yesterday, may have changed today.

However I posted this not a page back and a quick search of this thread for 2k8 would have revealed that.

Well, after flipping 1 copy each of Cardfighters DS & XBLA Unplugged, the manager at my BB told me he didn't like me bringing a bunch of stuff that was never gonna sell. Well guess what? Tough shit. It isn't my problem.

This manager never even looks me in the eye & mumbles when he talks. How this guy became a manager is beyond me...

I always scan the previous pages but I missed it, I even checked the wiki (no entry for this one), but thanks for the good news, I guess I need to go back and get the other copy :)

It's @ the Seal Beach Target, you have until next Monday to grab it then it's all mine, (insert creepy laugh here!!!)

I have a pattern that I visit my local targets, I try not to get compulsive and revisit the same one's over and over again :bouncy:

Quick question that's been bugging the hell out of me.

Why am I getting charged tax on my purchases from Blockbuster when I'm using trade-in store credit that is on account/in the system???

EB has never charged me tax on on my store credit but this BB refuses to even acknowledge this. I'm not using a value card so shouldn't I be getting purchases tax free? Or does this this rule change by state?

I've called up numerous EB/GS to hear store credit is tax free while all the BB in my area have told me I must pay tax.

Can someone help clear this up?

Do you get tax added to your trade-ins? I noticed this when I traded at a Blockbuster in Virginia - I got the tax added as an extra amount to the credit I received. Then, presumably, they would charge tax when you purchase things with that credit (in fact I know this is the case because I bought a 1600 points card when I was there last time and paid tax when using my Value card). Just over the border in MD, on the other hand, they don't give tax on trade-ins but I've never bought anything to see if they charge tax on the purchase - I would assume they do, actually. Seems like I've had to pay tax every time I buy things at EB/GS with credit as well but that is rare as I live in a state with no sales tax ;).

Wierd thing about NHL 2k8 (for PS3). I saw some in the cases marked $24.98 or so and when I type the DCPI into the Target scanners to see if it had dropped since being tagged it came up as a $29.99 "PS3 Value" title or something. So I think those are being pulled off clearance and marketed differently. Of course, if you can find one marked $14.98 or $12.48 or whatever I'm sure you can get it for that.

I was wondering about that a while back, I pay tax when I use store credit even though it isn't US Dollar so I don't think its taxable...

Wouldn't surprise me if BB/GR starts accepting only euros instead of the falling USD.

In CA, I never get tax as part of trade-in credit. However, when I purchase a game, I always get charged credit.
The same goes for GameStop also.

With that, I can never understand those that get taxes tacked onto credit on GS trades (on other threads).

What a joke. I went back today and all of the good games were gone already. I settled for Quake 4 and Shrek the Third (both 360) for $15. As I was walking out, there was a huge stack (8 or so) of 360 games on the counter near the exit with a Post-It saying "Hold for -----, they want these."

Bullshit that the employees are hoarding all of the good titles before the store even opened.

I'd be even more pissed, but I found a mint/complete copy of Mario Party 4 for $15 at another store, so that cheered me up a bit.

The whole tax thing is a moot point anyway because it is not like you are going to be able to argue the BB/GR clerk into not charging sales tax - it is all automatic in their system one way or the other. We all know how much trouble it is when they have to do anything that isn't by the book (like crediting back the difference on a preorder that came out for cheaper than originally charged, etc). And even if they did know how to override it I'm sure they wouldn't want to risk their jobs by messing with tax issues ;).

Some price quotes form Yesterday (Monday so they may have changed.)

Dead Head Fred - PSP 12.50
My Word Coach - Wii 9.00

Dead Head Fred was 7.48 at my local target and My Word Coach was 12.48

eh... happens every where. Why do you think you don't ever see rare games on the shelves at GS? Cause employees claim them the second they are traded in. Just one of the perks of the job.

bingo.

If someonecame up to me while I was working and started arguing about being charged tax while using credit, I'd hand them the corporate number and let them argue with corporate. Only way to take the tax off is to manually credit back the amount, and honestly, when I have to explain why I gave Joe Blow a $0.80 credit because he didn't want to pay tax, I'm just going to look like an idiot. So if you feel that strongly, bitch to corporate and if they think your case is justified, you'll get the $0.80 back.

Yeah, but the majority of the guys at this BB aren't really gamers and I usually have alot of luck finding good and sometimes rare titles there. I think it's one of the new guys that's hoarding, as the long-timers have never done it like this before.

TIVs for today (all 360):

Avatar - $22
Darkness - $25
Lost Planet - $12
Spiderman:FoF - $19(2 GRs I went to wouldn't accept the trade)
TH:pG - $22

I managed to pick up CoD2 and Ninja Gaiden:Black for the BOGO sale. They're not in the best condition, but as long as they play, I'll deal with it. I have a feeling GR is gonna get flooded with a ton of copies of the Darkness this week!

Where does everyone pick up The Darkness at for a decent flip? Game Stop has them for $24.99. I thought I read that it's $12.xx at someplace but I idk where?

The sales tax didn't automatically credit back right and she refused to just get it close to correct even in favor of the store. So I waited for twenty minutes while she kept hacking at the computer. I wandered around the store and internally wondered why I always get the new employee for their learning experiences and then I saw her nametag with Store Manager on it. Turns out she had been there for years and it still tripped her up because the system wanted to refund 8% tax instead of 6% on a $15 purchase. I didn't think stores would be up to speed on this sale so I didn't go today. Now I wish I would have.

Anybody trade in Jericho (PS3) today? Seems like I got about $23 for it a week ago in TX, but today in GA it fetched $30. Which is pretty frickin' sweet, considering the $12.48 it costs at Target.

EDIT: Before anyone asks, its a corporate store.

The Target I went to today had 1 copy left @ that price! Hopefully it will still be there tomorrow.

Picked up a slew of titles:

:gc: Pikmin 2
:ps2: Valkyrie Profile 2
:ps2: .hack Infection
:xbox: Psychonauts
:xbox: SVC Chaos
:360: Prey
:360: Kameo
:360: Quake 4
:360: Chromehounds
:360: Earth Defense Force 2017
:wii: Prince of Persia Rival Swords (mispriced at $14.99)
:wii: Elebits (mispriced at $14.99)

I'm selling all of them by the way. I take PayPal. ;)

I just can't get too excited over this sale without a corresponding GS or GC trade-in deal promo to use to xfer credit to one of those places. I already have most of the cheap games I'd want from this (like Chromehounds, Kameo, VP 2, etc) and the little chance they'd have 2 of anything I'd want and they'd be in un-sandpapered condition is so small I didn't even bother making the 1/4 mile drive to my local Blockbuster. But I do have to return a few movies so maybe I'll check it out later.

It is possible there are a few PSP titles I might be able to get since I don't tend to buy too many of those any more. Of course, I haven't even powered the thing on in over 9 months, so I'm not sure there's a point to that either ;).

how long is this B1G1 sale lasting?

i should really avoid this sale..cuz i don't need to be spending anymore money...but i have $25 left in credit there i wanna get rid of...we'll just have to see...

Btw Stoned where abouts do you live? I am in west garbage grove and visit the GR on valley view quite often...thats probably why they have a lot of the flipped games from both of us...hahaha.

I got shot down! BB by my house are claiming its a Game Rush promotion and since there isn't a GR within 25 miles (or 250) they're not honoring it. I'll try back tomorrow when the manager(s) are around, hopefully.

I had Yakuza, COD2 (360), Lego Star Wars II (360), and some other 360 game I wanted that was $15 (can't remember) =\

edit: Also saw House of Dead II & III Wii new for purchase, along with Size Matters PS2 and a few other new ones!

That's lame, mine had signs all over the store and there isn't a Gamerush within 200 miles.

I'll check out this sale tomorrow at lunch...I could not make it today. Anyone have a good list of PSP games? I'll be going on travel soon, would like some new USED games. I'll look for 360 stuff also, but nothing jups out for $15...we'll see.

Dude, Today I went to the only blockbuster I can trade games into and Jericho would not scan. I got them to look it up on the computer and I could see the price quote of $30 bucks but they just said since it wont scan they cant take it as a trade in! Obviously no one at blockbuster knows what the fck they are doing!

I'm sure more than a few copies of Beowulf were sitting in that pile...:grouphug:

So how plausible would this scenario be: Buy a $15 game at the sale and get another $15 game free. Go to a different store the following day and trade-in one of the games for $8 (which would most likely be the case if the trade value held and it was a 360 title), use the credit towards a $7-$10 game, and get another free game with that of equal or lesser value. It would be like a B1G2 free sale!

LOL

...and the theory upon trading in one of the games you buy creates a huge loophole

It's funny you should say that, because I didn't see a single copy of the 8 or so Beowulf's I traded in. :whistle2:k

Anyone else having a hard time trading in Jericho (PS3)? Last two BBs I went too wouldn't it accept it because it "was in the system".

if you have a gamecrazy near by, you could pricematch jericho so you'll at least get credit somewhere. same thing happened to me with meet the robinsons so i took it to gamecrazy instead.

Wow, about time some kunai headed my way.

Picked up 10 copies of Jericho from 1 Target tonight, along with some Avatars. Total for JEricho was $135 after tax, only to become $300 in credit which will be broken down into $9.99 cards in Arizona and converted into cash when I come back to SoCal.
