ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Trust me, dont bother, people will just start whining about how they have a phone that can only dial the number of one blockbuster location, and then all the single number dialing phone owners will gang up on you (they seem to be pretty common in this thread).
can somebody please verify that if you pre-order from blockbuster you get a second wheel for free? I called last night and the guy was not sure.
Picked up Both New PokeMon today from GR.
You must have missed the part in his post where he did call.

I was told at my store that if I preorder, I would get a free wheel. I had to double check what they meant by it and then explain to them that you cannot buy it without a wheel.

Is there any way to search for GameCrazy stores? I'm hoping to redeem some credit card rewards points for Blockbuster gift cards when Wii Fit comes out.

Just came back from a successful run...traded in 3 copies of HC:Battle for the Pacific and 1 copy of FIFA 07, which I purchased for $64.64 from gamestop, for a grand total of $112.33 in credit. Turned around and picked up brand new copies of Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Mass Effect for the credit + $13.05 out of pocket. Not bad for a very little effort. I figure I saved myself about $47.69 from buying them new elsewhere.

I also have another set of 3 HC:Battle for the Pacific and 1 copy of Jumper to trade in towards Lost Odyssey and a future release. I may even go back and pick up another copy of FIFA 07 and Jumper if I have time tomorrow.

Thanks CAG, don't know how I would be able to feed my gaming addiction without you guys!!!

Wow, this almost seems counter productive. For $68.25 you could have just picked up used copies of R6-V2 and ME, there is also a chance you could have grabbed the LE version of either or both for the same price. I know buying "new" is preferred by some, but with the likely large quantities of both of these titles used, pretty certain you could have found mint copies.

Found a winner for me. I know my GS has a few of these in stock. Time to use the coupon.

Does anyone know what the odds would be for me to be able to grab a copy of The World Ends With You at a regular BB? I know they are starting to carry a bunch of games now and its made by Square so any chance?

By far the best deal yet for this week. I checked and the 2 gamestops near me have used copies in stock. :bouncy:
Even better, if you're looking to just get GS credit, do this.

Pick up 3 copies of Brawl for $165.
Trade them for $135 GS credit.
Buy 2 copies of the Darkness for $25.
Trade the Darkness back to GR for $44.

Do this, and you get $110 in GR credit moved to GS, $44 back to GameRush, and you make $14 in credit in the process- and all it involves is three trips. GameRush, GameStop, GameRush.
Isn't your math off for this part? I'm coming up with starting out with $165 in GR credit, and ending with $110 GS and $44 GR...which is $154. So, are you not LOSING $11?

went to one of my local blockbusters i havent been to in months since they stopped me from trading. as were they still taking reserves for GTA IV SE. stated no. reserved a regular 360 copy there, then proceeded to ask if my acct was still on hold. she stated yea. and i was like i dont understand why, i only traded in like 3 games, and i followed the terms of the agmt. i was like i trade in mutiples since me and my friends always buy. she was like oh ok. just come in when she is there and i could trade. victory!

Yeah, looking back I was thinking something else. Maybe. It didn't work with Darkness, since that price dropped. Oh wells.

Eh, wish I knew about Fatal Inertia earlier but oh well... I felt like I had to make at least one purchase with the GS coupon in any case so I researched beforhand and it seemed like FIFA 07 was the only viable candidate.

I had a semi-successful trip. I needed to head out to get my car emission tested and that is right in the heart of my cluster of tradeable Blockbusters, and also near Target, Gamestop, Gamecrazy, etc.

Started off well, then went downhill, and ended OK:

1) Hit up my favorite Gamecrazy and got Persona 3 FES for $24.99 after price matching the Fry's ad. I still had a Top Spin 2 left over from the B1G1 at Blockbuster but they told me it was down to $4.80 (used to be $7) so I held on to that for now. But the best thing was that I re-bought the Overlord I traded in there on a Blockbuster trade-in price match a few weeks ago (at $28.50) for $13.49 after MVP. And it is as mint as when I traded it in ;).

2) Picked up a Fifa 07 at GS for $12.99 (in credit). They had about 5 but at not quite a double I thought 1 copy was plenty. Had dinner next door...

3) Headed out to DEQ on the day they are open till 9pm despite their warnings not to go on Weds and towards the end of the month. I almost missed the place because it was deserted (and I was expecting lines out onto the street as I've experienced before) - took all of 5 minutes to test and renew my tags. Sweet.

4) Next stop: Target. Found a very rare thing at Target - unmarked clearance games. I picked up 3 Viva Pinata Party Animals from the regular game section. I also snagged NHL 2K8 on clearance for $14.98 (tagged as such). I forgot to ask about that at Blockbuster later (D'oh! Looks like it was only $19 a few weeks ago. OK, that's going back...).

5) Could have stopped at another GS and snagged Fatal Inertia and HC:BP (for some reason that one didn't seem worth it to me earlier) but passed it up.

6) Hit up a Blockbuster right near Target and traded in Fifa 07 and a VP:pA for $37 total.

This is where it gets wierd. So I head a few miles up the road where there is a Blockbuster and Gamecrazy within a block of each other. I figure I can trade the other 2 VP's there and be done with it. But this area must have some BS-inducing chemical in the water or something...

7) Go to a Blockbuster I hadn't been to since Dec. I was curious to see if this one was one where I couldn't trade (since I did trade a Beowulf pair there in Dec). I didn't think it would be a problem since it was kind of far from the others, but who knows. So I head in with my VP:pA and an older woman there (it occured to me later it might be the DM filling in - who knows) took an immediate look at it and said "Yeah, we aren't taking those because we have too many". I'm like, OK, WTF? I've never heard that line at BB or GR in the 3 years I've been trading there. They didn't even rent the game (I tried to rent it when it first came out and they never had it on order at the stores I checked) so I doubt they had many copies - unlike, say, Halo 3 or Bioshock which I could see them refusing on those grounds (every regular BB seems to have 6-10 of those because of all the rental stock they got). Then she takes it from me and does something quick on the computer and says "Oh yeah, it isn't even in the system so we can't take it". OK, now I'm getting really annoyed. Which is it - you have too many, or it isn't in the system (which is a complete lie as I just traded one down the street)? It was very strange. She suggested I take it to Gamecrazy. Now keep in mind I never handed over my ID or card or anything so she certainly didn't know who I was (I've never seen her before). So I don't think it was directed at me in any way, but it sure was bizarre. It's possible, maybe, that she mixed it up with the first VP, but I doubt they had a ton of those either. Also, I doubt the girl at the first store called over there to warn her or anything as she was a teeny bopper who went right back to talking with her friends after processing my trade - didn't seem like the type that would notice or care (what's to notice anyway?). Of course now I'm all paranoid that somehow the two stores communicated and were warned about me - I mean there was little to base that on but after what happened to me before (where they DID do that), who the hell knows. Anyway, I figured that place was bad news so I was better off not trading there anyway. Just as long as the first store is still OK that is :bomb:.

8) Head to the Gamecrazy. I don't even bring the game in but I ask if they price match trade-ins. I got the dreaded "It depends". When I got that before (at a different GC) it was because the guy said they would "match" if the price they give is higher than the other store . But apparently this store does price match - but only their "competitors" which by their definition is Gamestop and specifically not Blockbuster. OK, fine, be that way.... But he went on as to why Blockbuster was not a competitor. Did you guys know that Blockbuster is trying to "get a foot in the door" and thus they "give one high flat price for all 360 games"? Wow, who knew!? Anyway, I had more than enough :bs: out of these two so I got out of that area and may never return.

9) Hit up another Target that was chock full of Simpsons, Naruto (which I actually wanted) and a bunch of others last week when the prices were still higher. Today I go in and there are empty holes in all the cases with "Clearance" tags up there. Damn them and their proper tagging!

10) Had to drive a bit out of the way to another Blockbuster to get rid of the now open VP:pA I had. No problem with it not being "in the system" there . Also, I checked out their used stock and not a single VP or VP:pA in the whole store so I really doubt the other store was swimming in them. Which only leads me back to thinking there was a phone call before I got there - you know, I swear I saw a flashing message on my account last time I was at the first store but I figured they let me trade no problem so I must have been seeing things. What if it said to call the other store after I traded every time? Man, see, this is why I should never get too excited over BB game trading/purchases and why I should keep my credit at the other places. Gamestop and Gamecrazy never make me feel like I'm doing something wrong by offering them games for trade yet Blockbuster has me all fucking paranoid!

(Edit - Man, that's a big post once I saw it all done. Sorry, just had to vent a bit ;))

It was a good read, io. One time I attempted to get a Blockbuster to do a price adjustment and had one store call and notify another about me. Here's what happened. I found out that the $499 price I got my 60 gig PS3 for just three weeks before had been lowered to $449. This looked like an opportunity to build my store credit up a bit. I didn't want to drive too far so I went to the closest Blockbuster to my workplace. This turned out to be a bad idea. The person at that store told me that I'd have to take it to the exact store I bought it from to do that price adjustment. Ignoring her, I went to a second store (which was not too far of a drive for me) and was met with a lot of suspiscion. The manager guy really was looking me over, and indicated that they wouldn't be able to help me out.

When I left that store I drove about 10 minutes to another store (again, not the one I originally bought the system at). At this store I was told the same thing, and it was almost as if they knew I was coming there because they almost seemed too prepared for my question.

Alright, at this point I realized that the only chance I had of getting the price adjustment was to drive the additional 10 minutes further away to the Blockbuster that sold me my 60 gig PS3. I knew this was probably not going to work, but I just had to find out if I could get the $50 price adjustment. Unfortunately, by now I'd probably spent a good $4 in gas (not to mention the wasted time).

When I got in to that store the manager told me that he'd be willing to give me the $50 back since it was within 30 days that the price change had taken place! He asked me if I had been working on this for awhile. This was a major clue to me that either the first store or the second store manager had been making calls to other Blockbusters about my attempt to get store credit in a price change transaction. I'll bet it was that manager that gave me the suspiscious look who was making all the phone calls and notifying other stores of my little expedition.

This is when things got surreal. The store manager not only apologized to me for all the trouble this had caused me, but gave me $50 plus tax back IN CASH!!!

It went from a really bad day to a really good day. I really thought I'd been banned or something from the first or second store I'd been to, though. I made them suspiscious, but I found out that in the end it wasn't enough to get banned.

Anyway, another long CAG story for all of you. . .

thanks for whoever posted Fatal Inertia! there's a couple at my local GS so im gonna drop by there (despite my 100 things to do today) and grab one...my BBV credit has come down to about $4.XX so i need to pick things up again :whistle2:D

No its on there just joined with the New one. Once you add your ZIP it will give you the locations. Maybe its because there are few inquries about it.

Not sure if this breaking news or not, but I just picked up a DualShock 3 at my BB. They only got two in, and I purchased the second one ;). If you're looking for one, now is the time to check.

After doing an in-depth analysis, I have determined that you guys are right. I will just return the two games I picked up and save enough credit to buy a console or a bunch of new releases, and sell them for cash. Either that or wait for a good transfer offer for GS credit since the Darkness method seems to no longer work with the recent drop on its TIV.

dropped by GS and found a fatal inertia w/25% and edge stacked for $17, traded that and resistance (which I bought for $20 @ micro center last month, didn't really like it that much) for $65 and also returned the wiimote and nunchuk that another BB/GR made me buy with a Wii last week, they were not so pleased but oh wells, I was happy for a total of $131.##.

MKW and GTAIV are going to consume so much of my time, can't wait.... MLB 08 is all I play now.
without losing a lot of credit, is there a way to transfer BB credit to gamecrazy credit?
Without a B1G1 free sale it is tough. I only transferred a very small amount with that sale last time but I actually made money on the xfer (like $5 -> $7 or so). If they ever do the B1G1 free on $14.99 and under DS/PSP games that is usually a good one. For whatever reason GC seems to give higher values for PSP games and BB seems to sell them for lower than most of their other stuff. The other good time to xfer was when GC offered 40% or 50% bonus credit, but those promos are rare indeed.

With no deals at either place I don't see it happening. I still don't understand the SSBB -> GS trade-in that everyone is doing. I actually saw one at a regular BB last night (first used SSBB I've ever seen for sale at the BB chain). But I just don't see how I could come close to even on a $45 purchase from BB going to GS.

That was with SSBB getting $35, trade in 3 and get 20% bonus + edge = $45.50

The problems being, A. finding 3 copies of SSBB, and B. finding a Gamestop that would let you trade all 3 in at once (that's also assuming that the TIV held at $35)

360 Sneak King is a great filler, especially if you buy if with the 35% off this week, which makes it about 1.40 to buy and its get's about 60cents to sell with 30% bonus.

Yeah, I thought it was something like that. I haven't tried in ages, but I was never successful at trading more than 1 of a game at GS (no stupid "banning", just told they could only take 1). I suppose it could be done with filler as stoned suggests. Oh well, if I see another SSBB for sale at BB I'll consider picking it up, but I'm not going out of my way for that. I have the Top Spin 2 ($5 from BB) I could use as filler as well. How long does the extra 20% at GS go for? (Edit - from GS web site it goes through 4/27 - this Sunday)

Here's another one that's an ok flip from TRU (although slightly better at FYE, where it's $23.75) for those of us without any close copies of Fatal Inerta.

360 Blazing Angels 2 $22

I just saw the limited edition artwork that's a Blockbuster exclusive. It looks like a 5x9 print, and its actually in a black wood frame with glass. Has a "Blockbuster Exclusive" stamped on the back.
Just picked up Dualshock 3 from my local BB. Here are some more TIV's

Eye of Judgement (w/o camera) - still $36
Timeshift (PS3) - $30
Out of curiosity, do you know if they just got those DS3s in recently? Did they also still have a good amount of SIXAXIS available?

I'm wanting to use BB credit to get a second DS3, but I'm beginning to think they're trying to sell off their SIXAXIS stock before getting them in or something (my local stores have 5-6 SIXAXIS in stock).

I spoke to one of the guys I know at BB and he said they receive the DS3 on the tuesday shipment along with the DVD's. They only received 2. As for the sixaxis they had 3 to 4 of them in stock.

Awesome, thanks. I'll have to go check my store tomorrow; haven't been there in a few days.
Damn. I thought it would be forever before BB would get the DS3 so I bought one on Buy.com for $35 w/ GCO.
I figured it was going to take a while, so I bought my first DS3 by moving credit from BB to GS by buying a used copy of SSBB at BB and trading it to GS with two copies of Sneak King. Then, I used the 10% GS coupon on the last day it was valid for new stuff. I'm going to buy my second one as soon as my BB gets one in. I'm debating whether to trade away my two SIXAXIS controllers now b/c I can't think of anything I'd ever play with 4 people.

Unless the PS3 is getting Mario kart or Smash Bros i dont see how anyone would ever need 4 controllers for it. As soon as a BB near me gets them (checking when i pick up my Kart preorder) my six-axis' are gone.

Yeah, I mean... I have Calling All Cars downloaded, but anytime I have 4 people at my house, its my buddy and his wife.... and our wives complained about even trying to watch us play that game once.

Speaking of which, has anybody traded in a SIXAXIS at BB? Last time I asked, they claimed they didn't accept them.... which has just *got* to be BS, because I saw a used PS2 controller at my store recently. I'm pretty sure they just didn't know how to look it up.

Stopped by to go ahead and put in my pre-order for GTA4 SE. I decided to bite the bullet, even though I hate paying 89.99 for a video game (and depending on what it comes with will probably downgrade to the RE). Anyway, the guy behind the counter looked at my balance and was like "what the fox?" Then he saw that I've traded there for a few months. Anyway, story aside... this is where it gets interesting.

I went to browse their used games because their ps2 section was looking bare. I checked their "under 14.99" cart. Inside, I found Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. It didn't have cover art. It HAD the manual. When he was pulling out the game, he checked it and then threw away the manual. I was like "does it come with the manual" and he said "oh crap, I wasn't thinking, I thought it was the sleeve." He pulled it out and it had like FOOD all over it. I mean... he was kinda dazed and the store was way busy. Looking back, it was kinda funny. Also picked up a complete pikmin 1 (since I already have pikmin 2).

Anyway. Im happy. Put in my pre-order, grabbed a good GC game for a cheap price... Good day :)

Looked like they went and marked down some rentals as used... and picked up Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and another copy of Pikmin 2
