ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
Everyone has heard of the new blockbuster well here it is:

blockbustertest.jpg

Featuring:

* Earlier opening hours (6:00am) for those who want to rent a video on their way to work.
* An old-fashioned soda counter co-branded as a Coca-Cola cafe with chrome stools and a
Black-and-white checkerboard tiled floor which sells Cappuccino and Fountain Drinks
* Televisions, Blu-ray players, and Video Cameras
* Free WiFi
* A hands-on video gaming center
* A dedicated play area and toys, books and T-shirts

That doesn't sound too bad actually. And look at all the options now to use credit on
What??? Are you serious???

Got :ds: The World Ends With You on Friday for $39.99. Dang the Square Enix :ds: games are expensive. Maybe I'll return it and rent it instead.

Confirmed that my preorder store got their Mario Kart Wii shipment in. :bouncy:

Grabbed 9 SSBB to trade at GS. Picked up a whole bunch of Sega Superstars Tennis with the credit, but could only trade 8 total at the 4 BB/GR stores I visited. This 2 copy limit thing sucks, especially since I didn't see the games for sale in the used section at any of the stores. Maybe they are planning to convert some rental copies? So I'm stuck with 2 opened :wii: copies that I'll probably dump on SaySwap, the other 4 will go back to GS.

I'm down to ~$126 in credit at BB/GR. I feel odd not having 3 nearly maxed Value Cards in my wallet.

WOW that's a nice lay out. Are these just the for the flagship stores? I really can't see them trying to do this to all BB outlets.
12:01-12:30am, if you're referring to GTA IV. Midnight Launch is pretty self-explanatory, no?
There still are a bunch of variables, like when they reopen the store, if you should show up at 11:30, etc.
How far away is this in the future?
its already here. Depending on where you live. I just purchased the sony 40 inch tv all on credit. It cost 16XX.XX Great Picture. I live in dallas by the way

My Blockbusters have started to do a pre-order list for the Wii. Also, if you have a store that is selling the Wii's as a bundle, you should be able to ask for them to sell you just the system. In most cases, they'd much rather take your $250 then have it sit there for who knows how long.

Did they even ask about the credit?
$1600 worth of credit should trigger some kind of alarm. I guess no one gives a damn at your location.
The one I trade in at looked at my $170 or so in credit and said, "Wow! You have a lot of credit!"

If you remember Blockbuster Music locations from years ago were set up almost the same way except for the soda counter. So they really are going through with this again its going to be funny to see how much credit will be stacked up to spend there. The funniest thing of all is if they will charge full MSRP on the higher items.

Trust me all depends on who you are dealing with because they looked at me funny when I had almost five hundred bucks on several cards.

Bought the 80GB bundle PS3 last year and the kid was excited when I paid it all in multiple gift cards. My store said they'd start selling Mario Kart at midnight tonight.. Even though i'm actually off and plan to head out I think i'll cut the night a little short and swing in before they close at 1am. I'm such a nerd haha. hmm guess I need to call and see how late they are open tonight and make sure they selling at midnight.

Well, I just read a couple of articles and BB is testing these out in the Dallas area to see how well they do then they might move them to other areas. But one fact that I read stated that all BB locations are getting a Sony PS3 set up to show off the PS3 as a Movie Player and they cost $5,000 each.

What coupons are people using to get used games so cheap at GS (as trading fodder)? I know there is the 10% coupon and the edge card (by the way, how much do these cost and is there anyway to get one cheap?), but it seems like people are getting used games for a much higher percentage off. Is there another coupon I don't know about?

check the other threads for game deals. In the past couple of weeks, there were really good coupons for gamestop, but this week's coupon isnt impressive. There is a $2 edge card on another thread, they are usually $15 or $20. I wouldnt know cause i paid the $2 :)

Thank you for posting the Sega Superstar Tennis TIV because I was just about to ask about it. The cost of Sega Superstar Tennis PS3 or Xbox 360 is $17.99 before discount.

You missed out on many great opportunities, but that Mass Effect flip is a HUGE score

People are saying it is no longer valid for NEW games, but for this thread we just care about the used version

I think we have a winner for this week. I will be grabing a couple of SST to trade it since its getting close to a 2 for 1 profit after discounts.

Can anyone confirm seeing The World Ends with You for the DS? The BB I called gave me a BS answer saying I would have to come in and the other one doesn't sell items.

Well, I just did you a favor. Here is a link to the gameinformer.com site that allows you to print out a .PDF to let you get a Edge Card for 2 bucks. Just click where it states for a printable sub card.
Any one know the TIV for the Wii Sega Tennis?
Here you go stated earlier in the thread.
Here's how to make an extra $30 credit at BB:
1. Buy a copy of SSBB at BB.
2. Trade SSBB into GS with 2 other current gen games.
3. Buy 3 copies of Sega Superstars Tennis (PS3 and Wii versions get $30, 360 gets $28.50.) (You might have to pay around $10 out of pocket, depending on which games you traded in.)
4.Trade in the 3 copies of SST to BB.
The process should go like this:
49.99 BB Credit- 45.50 GS Credit- 90.00 BB Credit

If you do this multiple times, you can make alot of money.
Damn, I've haven't trading for a few months but I think I will be getting back in the game today.

We use the e-mail newsletter coupons. You can either subscribe to their e-mails or pull it from the thread on here (someone posts the weekly ad and coupon every week). Last week, the coupon was 25% off all used Xbox 360 games, so that is how everyone was getting really cheap 360 games to flip.

I just got back from Blockbuster. I payed $17 even for Sega Superstars Tennis for the Wii (used + coupon + tax, no edge), and got $31.50 for it at BB.

Yes saw that but as always one person stating that they had it doesn't mean its true. Hence the confirmation I asked for.

Also, wasn't sure if that was a GR not a regular BB (the only stores that are in my area)

When i went to Blockbuster today, they finally rent DS games now only 4.99 for a week, so i rented The World Ends with You, and yes they were selling it also
I thought they put the credit on a Gift Card? instead they put the credit on my account, is that correct?
Sometimes they put it on a Value Card but if they entered the info wrong or don't know how to put it on the Card they will put it on your account.

Like with most of my local stores they don't let have it on a Value Card because of thefts that have happened in the past where people were stealing games from one location then trading them in to another.

Have you ever thought about calling BB yourself, if you think I am not telling the truth? I have sales receipts that prove the Wii and PS3 TIV of SST is $30, whereas the 360 version gets $28.50.

bro he was just asking for confirmation, and I gave it to him

Im more inclined to believe two people confirming the trade in value rather then just one person.

BTW thanks for letting me know the trade in value for Super Star Tennis on the other page, I got in on a great deal for GTA IV because of you

Wow, next time please read the fucking post before you get all defensive. Is that too much to ask, seriously?

I was asking about a confirmation on The World Ends With You being sold at the stores, not SST TIV. Which seems to be confirmed by Pore2More.

Thanks Pore2More

First post here, but I wanted to give you guys a heads up. I work at a corporate Blockbuster store and my manager just gave me a call saying that we wouldn't have to work after midnight tonight for the Mario Kart release because we won't be receiving the game until Monday. I'm not sure if this is widespread, but it may be worth giving your local Blockbuster a call before making the trip to pick up Mario Kart if you preordered.

I would say GTA4 will come in the same shipment, so getting the game at midnight on Monday will probably be ok.
I just got back from Blockbuster. I payed $17 even for Sega Superstars Tennis for the Wii (used + coupon + tax, no edge), and got $31.50 for it at BB.
You must have got tax back or something like that because I got 30$ for wii and 28.50 for 360 at a number of stores.
What does it say on the receipt? I was in store and they looked it up but couldn't find anything.
When i went to Blockbuster today, they finally rent DS games now only 4.99 for a week, so i rented The World Ends with You, and yes they were selling it also
Wait, is this a Gamerush store or a regular BB? That would be awesome if regular BB's were carrying this to sell but it seems unlikely since the only other DS game I've ever seen for sale at several stores is Phantom Hourglass. I know you are new to this thread but it is a requirement of mine that people specify GR vs regular BB when posting new item availability ;).
You must have got tax back or something like that because I got 30$ for wii and 28.50 for 360 at a number of stores.
Yeah, I got tax back, 5% VA state

I just called my local GR and they don't have The World Ends With You. They also said they won't get Mario Kart till Monday, and GTAIV till *gah* THURSDAY!!!

I have all this credit, dunno if I can wait that long for GTAIV tho :bomb:

Are all BBs releasing it Thursday? Thats a load of BS if they are...And is there any possibility tha if mine has them in stock waiting for Tuesday I could maybe get them to break street date?

I dont think the people at blockbuster understand that people preorder games so that they can GET THE GAME ON ITS RELEASE DAY. I will be furious if I don't get mario kart tomorrow, and will knock over every magazine rack within a 10 mile radius if i get GTA late.
