ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
best I've done is 6x, which was Star Trek & Superman 360. $2 to $12.
Just got my notes out, it was $7 out of pocket for $60 credit, so 8.6x. 2x Superman 360, 2x Star Trek Legacy 360, 1x Pimp My Ride 360. Superman and Star Trek were $1 to $12 each, PMR was $2.5 to $12.

kunai was right, it's case without the DVDs. Kunai wins again. :whistle2:#
Do you guys have any idea if BB has PS2s for sale, as mine is scratching the shit out of discs.

Also, how much TIV would I get for:
Tony Hawk's Project 8 and Proving Ground PS2
DDR supernova
Timesplitters 2
Tales Of Symphonia
Battalion Wars
Pikmin
ICO
Mortal Kombat Unchained
Capcom Vs. SNK DS
Lords of Dogtown UMD movie
NFSUG PS2
Resident Evil UMD movie

Would that get me enough money for a PS2 if they carry them?
I looked at the BB and Gamerush sites and can't figure out how to buy things online, and there's no Gamerush in my area.
What do you want for Pikmin and Ico??

I'm pretty new to this, so my best was recently with NBA08. Paid $15 and got $33. I'm pretty much of the mindset that I need to get a 2x return or I'm not doing it.

If I purchased something new at a BB with two tenders (value and debit) and I return it within the 30 days unopened, will I get what I paid with my debit back on my card or will the total all go back on my account?

When Monster Madness was getting $28.50 and was on sale for $7.99 at Circuit City, I pricematched the sale at Sears (110% guarantee when they were selling it for $49.99). I think I picked them up for $4 and change each, and got $28.50 each at BB. It resulted in picking up the Rock Band bundle for about $35 out of pocket or so.

They should look on your account and return the amount you paid from debit onto the card and leave the remaining balance on your account.

I posted here a while ago saying that I might be moving in near a BB/GR, previously I was only near franchisees that didn't take any trade ins, anyways I did end up moving in to that place so I will probably try to be in here from time to time.

You'll need another $45 for all three DVDs. $95 for 3 movies in the case. No. Thank. you.

Sorry for the question which may already be answered, but are there any sales going on right now at BB corporate stores? (185 pages is kinda daunting!)

I'll be near a few corporates tomorrow and all the ones around my home are franchises.

Last time I was there, they had the B1G1
no
Actually, all used DVDs $14.99 and less are 3 for $20 (usually 2 for $20). Nothing on games, though.

IIRC, the last time they had the 3 for $20. Almighty Kunai was able to find some flippable movies to FYE/Suncoast. Any possibilities now?
if someone can find a cheap source for ps2- grand theft auto san andreas, the buy back at blockbuster is 18 bucks
Wow, really? I have a copy thats just been sitting on my shelf for a year that I ended up getting as part of a big lot off of CraigsList. $18 isn't bad at all, I'll totally have to bring it in.

Do the other PS2 GTA's get anything near that? Vice City and 3 are part of 3 for $10 at GameCrazy if I recall correctly.

You guys should check into the GameFly sale, some of the flippable titles are going for pretty cheap. I know I saw Fatal Inertia and Sega Rally Revo in the mix. Assuming the TIV held, they would still yield pretty decent returns.

This was posted awhile back, but keep in mind I doubt it is REALLY $18, yours may have been the *hot coffee* GTA:SA. Keep that in mind

Or I could be completely wrong and yours might have been the non-hot coffee game.

I think it probably is only the original hot coffee UPC that gets $18 - regular one is probably no more than $6.

I updated the OP with most of the trade-in prices from the last few days including all the updates on the "good stuff" posted so far today. Looks like not much dropped except for Assassin's Creed which was expected (though still high at $22 for a game they sell for $30 new).

well i usually go for trade in value of 1.5 or better. My best is Viva Pinata Party Animalsw at some targets for 7.48 i used t4he 10.00 off coupon got it for free and traded it for 8.56 cents so great profit

My best trade was a copy of Folklore i got from a pawnshop for 2 dollars and traded for 36 :)

I just got a 360 from BB, i need to start rebuilding up my credit for MGS4 and Wiifit. Its too bad gas is so expensive, its almost not worth it to drive all around and check out Targets (outside of the 2 that are on my way to the gym). I could use some more Gamestop flips.

Anyone know the current TIV for Jericho (PS3)? Snagged it for $12.48 at Target. About a month ago it was getting $26. Hope it's the same now.

This is a noobish question, probably, but how can you tell?
This is a noobish question, probably, but how can you tell?
If it doesn't say "Second Edition" on it, then it could very well be the "hot coffee" version. And you might even be better off selling it on EBay if it's the original edition.

I know for a fact Hot Coffee :360: was getting $35 about 3 months ago.

No such thing as :360: Hot Coffee. It'd be :xbox: Hot Coffee. ;)
Lot Wii Wheel mark USED for $9.99
Very nice. These are probably new, just pulled from the rental Mario Karts.

I wish I hadn't ordered a few from amazon.

I didn't think to ask them what they did with the wheels..(I could use a couple more)...They did allow me to take the 30 or so 1-month Live trials out of their GTAIV rentals...(as I'm assuming some others that suddenly had dozens available for trade did)
Lot Wii Wheel mark USED for $9.99
We got a memo Tuesday that said if any of the Wii Wheels had damaged boxes, to take them from the box and see them as Previously Played.

Hmm I think I will have to go ask nicely tomorrow at my BB to see if I can get some of them.

another good target deal i did a couple times today is arctic tales? for the wii and nhl2k8 for 360. 7.48 and 14.98 on clearance at all the targets around me. using the $5 off coupon and the $10 off coupon and adding a $3 filler item, got both games for 2.48 + 4.98 = ~7.50 plus tax. The two together trade for $31 at BB. Almost a 4x ratio.
i say we get a nice list of trade values first to put in the OP before we start a new thread
i'll do it, i work there and don't do shit anyway, i'll bring a notebook and make a TIV list
