ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Yeah, you could always just try buying one outright and taking it to another store, return and rebuy with a second copy. Again, a pain in the ass and not really worth the hassle though.
 
I just got quoted $16 trade in at a non-GR Blockbuster for Pinball Williams Collection for Wii - if you have a Fred Meyer these are $10 each right now. Not a great flip, but if you're going there anyway... It's a really good game, so you should buy one to keep too.

I was also told that they were getting four copies of Wii Fit with the balance board for sale in on the 23rd (instead of the 21st) and that they would take a preorder on them.
 
tried to preorder wii fit today at my local gr/bb and the manager asked "is it a system or a game?" needless to say she said it wasnt in their system to preorder. guess ill have to try another one and hope they know what they are doing.
 
i'm gonna start working on the list on sunday , i'll make it alphabetical and by system

which system should i start with ?

I would say 360, because the $10 still works at target, and there are alot more cheap 360 games at GS then ps3 games.

You know, all this discussion of deals and such not being in the OP (see below) but I DID have the VT3 price in the OP from just a few days ago ;). (It were $6 - to me that's not worth the Target flip).

I checked these today and the girl there told me she wouldn't look if I took stuff from the cases :lol:. Unfortunately they were completely empty - no manual, no nothing. So I'm assuming they gutted them before putting them out - but she said they didn't do that. But it is definitely odd that 10+ cases would all be missing manuals too. Are the 1-month codes on cards? Hollywood had the cases with the manuals and map but I didn't see anything else in there unless they are hidden within the manual or something.

I didn't ask about Wii Fit (I have the only preorder and they told me they weren't supposed to take any more preorders after that).

I just picked up the Williams pinball game for $9 today (the 10% coupon works even though it says it doesn't apply to "Value" games - it was the cashier's decision to try it anyway). Flipping for $16 isn't really wirth it IMO - I just wanted one to keep since the Ships spoke so highly of it. But anyone looking to get this (or any other game) at Fred Meyer don't forget the 10% bonus on gift card purchases (eg, spend $300 get a $330 one) - it effectively adds another 10% off on everything.


Anyway, was out for a bit - travelled most of yesterday to get home and Internet went out all day today but I'm back. I'll see if another update is required on the OP but I haven't seen a lot of trade-in values posted that aren't already in there.

As for the new thread, I'll make on eventually though I tend to agree with stoned in that it is often more annoying than anything to make a new thread. When that happens with the CC or TRU clearance or the Penny guide thread I tend to miss stuff for weeks before I realize it just isn't popping up on my subscribed threads (mostly that's all I read). It used to make a difference in speed with the old servers but Cheapy says the current ones can handle long threads no problem.

haha i called 6 BBs before i found one close to me that would let me preorder WiiFit....all the others ones said they didnt know what a WiiFit was and one manager was like "Oh u mean the Wii Wheel...yes we can preorder it..." i was like wtf lady.... hopefully i can make money off them off eBay....i used my credit to get them to at least ill be turning credit into cash cuz i know i can sell them to face value at least

I've been checking every day at mine, and today was the first day someone was able to locate it in their system as available for order. That's not to say it was actually the first day it was available, just the first day someone could actually find it.

People wont hit a few numbers on their phone, so it should be no surprise that people wouldn't want to hit 'first page' and read all those words in the op.

I'm heading to BB/GR in a few minutes. Gonna try my luck pre-ordering some stuff (maybe some Wii Fits for ebay). Also gonna try to hunt down some more target flips. Wish me luck...

My target has jack for games. All i managed to snag were 4 Orange Boxes for PS3, of which 2 went to blockbuster, 1 went to goozex, and 1 went to trade on gametz.

No other clearance games in stock sadly. Oh well. I have enough credit for a wii if they ever get one at least.

Sorry maybe I missed out on these coupons, but how did you get all three games for only $24? Simpsons and Orange Box are 24 and 30 at all the stores around me.
 
The target I went to only had a bunch of crappy PS2, GBA & DS multi-paks.

But in good news i found out that GH2 which Best Buy is selling for $16-27 gets $48 at FYE. Gonna have to go hunt some of those down later.

Speaking of good flips. Wii fit is going for up to $300 on ebay. May want to pre-order some (sku 223274) while you still can.

$10 off of 360 games made Icon free, and Orange Box/Simpsons probably rang up at 14.98 and 12.48. Add in the $5 off of $25 toys coupon, and you get roughly $24-25.

Simpsons was $12.48, Orange Box $14.98, minus the $5 of 25 toy coupon.

Actually, I've seen this once before. Shrek the 3rd had a TIV of $9.99 for a few days earlier this year.

Pretty odd trade-in value.... I wouldn't be surprised if they just read you the for-sale price, having no idea what you were asking them (or what they were doing).

That is true. He did know what I was asking for though since I asked "Do you take Video Game trade ins" and he knew what he was talking about so hopefully maybe I got the right info.

So what does this make the used retail price? It's something I might pick up with a surpluss of credit. Last time I saw it the used price was $25.

I spent $135 and got $338 in credit. I now have enough for my first PS3. :whee:

I will still have enough credit left over to get started on a 360 or maybe I will bite on Wii Fit. I used both Target coupons to get all the 360 games for $4.98 and the PS3 games for $12.48 or $9.98. The Targets in my area finally dropped clearance prices to 75%.

No. I always trade in to 2 stores and always 1 copy of each game to each store. I tried trading more than 1 copy at the nearest BB and was shot down. After that, I never tried it at the 2nd store.

These BBs are about 3 miles away from each other. I have another BB near work but I haven't traded there yet. Next time, I will try to trade 2 copies at the 2nd store. If they deny me, I will just start trading at the 3rd store.

Did they say they aren't pre-ordering it, or that they couldnt find it in the system? The sku for the item is 223274. All you gotta do is tell the people you want to pre-order item 223274 and they'll input in the system and it tells them how many they have on order.

I also noticed some faded covers on some of the used games they sell, I was wondering if they were fake or just faded from baking in the sun.

I had to fill out the form at all of the locations I signed up to do trade ins at.

As Far As I Know, they wont be selling them until the 23rd. Although it would definitely be worth a phone call on the 21st just in case.
 
Sonic for PS3/Xbox 360 is on sale next week for 9.99 at CC. Does this game have flipping potential. None of the area GR will give me price quotes over the phone. Does someone have a number for one that always gives prices over the phone?

it sells for 14.99 so it has zero potential.

No, their used gamecube game like Alien Hominid have 2 colored (white/blue?) cover but a full color back. While some games like Cars has full color on both sides. Same thing goes when I goto the rental gamecube section, some covers seem faded while some don't. So I was wondering if they are indeed faded or just fake.

The other store I called informed me that since it is almost out, they already had their orders placed (2). She told me to call them that morning to find out if I can buy one then.
 
Just called my BB. One pre order left and they're holding it for me.

I'm going to ebay it, and buy a wii with the profits. I can't decide whether I should put up the auction now or wait until it's released on Tuesday and the demand is uber high. What do you think?

Yeah, it actually was where I lived.

But go check ebay prices on Wii Fit. All of them are ending at around 160. I"m guessing that will go even higher come release day.

Or plummet like a stone. On release day, there are going to be hundreds/thousands more of them on ebay. Most of 'em won't go for much more than $10 above retail.
